Novikov

The satellite drifted listlessly through the darkened expanse of space. With sudden contrast to its lifeless state, a maneuvering engine fired, twisting the object round while a red transmitting light blinked on.
Seven minutes later, cheers erupted on board the JNN Platform 02. Drifting in orbit 380 kilometers above the surface of a blue and tan speckled planet, they had just received the first images of the outermost edge of their solar system, transmitted across a void some 133 million kilometers wide.
In the midst of the small celebration inside the Gregori 080 Satellite Command Room, a small man known to his subordinates simply as Plavic stepped in.
“Very well done, boys; let’s put the drinks away now and begin transmission.”
The men in the crowded room sighed, several stepping outside to consume drinks already poured. Within minutes, the room was again deathly still, the only noise now coming from the satellite’s transmission beeping across the void into the waiting receivers onboard a dozen different Orbital Platforms. The message was audible only as a series of electric clicks, but in binary, the message read:
This is the Joint Novikov Navy Satellite Gregori Zero-Eight-Zero attempting communication outside the Novikov System. Respond.
Such was the first attempt at communication outside the Novikov System. The Novikov People, all 140 million of them, had long been exploring space but had only recently reached the technology to propel such an object outside of the Novikov System with any form of accuracy.
Gregori 080 was one of nearly 300 different relay satellites sent on a pilgrimage across the void, each one launched in a different direction from the Novikov home world with the hope of contacting other life. Now, after nearly two years of work, the engineers of JNN Platform 02 prepared for the long wait to see if their efforts would pay off.
[OOC: I'm splitting my nation into Two Parts, one FT and one MT. Please refer to the FT portion (this one) as the JNN if you will. Please also be reasonable when responding. Don't jump me or use outrageous technology or you will be ignored.]
