Complete Order of Battle, Divisional Formations
Omzian Army

Abstract
This is the newest edition of the Omzian Army Order of Battle, reflecting the latest changes as of the previous year. The listing compiled here include major division, corps, and group army level ground units currently in the Omzian Army, the National Guards, Navy, and Militia - regimental-level combat support units and support commands are not included for the sake of simplicity and readability. With the exception of the Militia, both the Army and National Guard units are organized under the names of the military district commands that they are placed under. Navy and People's Militia units are listed separately. For obvious reasons, divisional-level Special Forces units and People's Armed Police units are not included, the former due to secrecy and the latter due to its relevance.

ooc; Congratulations oh one of much spare time...
OOC: Not exactly, and I'm right now becoming more busy IRL actually. I came up with the inital format all the way back from November, but didn't really get this started and had my stuff broken down until about February or March. Later, it took me only a few hours to do newer updates in total considering that I already had an idea about how many divisions of each type will be in my army, and the formats of different corps and group armies.
To further simplify the process while making sure that there's as few flaws as possible, I arranged various business deals to ensure that the numbers of various units (such as tanks and other AFVs) will fit into my "three combat brigade, nine battalions" division format, and that attrition replacements for these units will be available when one or more is/are lost.

Another note abour army reorganization. As one might notice, it doesn't happen often due to competition between the three branches of the militaries for a larger budget, thus the entirely army will be basically unchangedf or as long as ~1-3 RL months. I intend to have this last until August or September, with changes being something like a replacement of equipment.

Omzian People's Militia

Introduction
The largest "branch" of the Omzian Forces, the Omzian Militia is the paramount paramilitary forces of the Omzian Republic, exercising the mission to defend and guard the Omzian Republic and its homeland at absolutely all costs. Made up by the citizens of the Omzian nation, the Omzian Militia has transformed from an obsolete force of untrained combatents into a capable and even dangerous force of motivated defenders. As well, it's mission has also transformed from the unconventional, low-intensity-style doctrine into a new doctrine and policy, allowing the Omzian Militia to cooperate with professional Army forces in defence of the homeland. Divided into nine Militia District Commands, the militia is even spread across the Omzian nation to protect and guard every corner of the Republic with the people's might.
As well, it's no surprise that the Omzian Militia is made up of not only new and fresh recruits seeking an extra financial source, but also retired and discharged military soldiers and officers as well, from both the Army and National Guard service. Each militiamen, depending on their role, are paid a sum of money for all months of the year, and is called up the first weekends of every month, and for the entire month of July, for combat exercises and additional training. In wartime, when Omzian forces are deployed overseas, all militiamen are required to maintain their posts, ready to be called up at a moment's notice. However, the Omzian Militia will truly distinguish itself when the Omzian homeland is directly threatened, capable of conducting "conventional", anti-terrorism/insurgency, and civil security operations.

Sceptical States
22-06-2005, 16:39
The Federation of Sceptical States would like to make it known that they strongly diagree with war in any form. The Southern Socialist States, where the federation resides, has no army or force. Only when the call to arms against capitalism takes place will the SSS move to create a multi-national force. We can see that the Omzian Army is a force of evil, and as such we oppose the army, its nation, and the beliefs they stand for.

Thankyou,
Chancellor Rea

:( After careful deliberation with the SSS government, the Federation of Sceptical States is obliged to inform the Omzian Army that war has been decalred against it. The SSS calls all allied states to arms, against the menace that is the Omzian Army. A force of around 10 000 multi-national troops have begun to mobilize, and i realise that without out support they are doomed.

Yours Regretfully,
Chancellor Rea

OOC: Um... If you want to declare war against me (for what particular reason), please do so in a separate thread. This is for my army organization. Thanks for your cooperation.

A Look at an Omzian Mechanized Infantryman

Introduction
The backbone of the Omzian Army, the mechanized infantry has long been the standard symbol of the rather small sized (when compared to others) but professional nature of the Army, representing the Omzian Army's significance as a mechanized ground force. He is an expert marksman and can painlessly handle fieldcraft work, possesses strong leadership qualities, and is trained to fight in a variety of environments and respond to multitudes of threats and evolving situations. He is also selected among a large group of recruits, many of whom may not pass the rigorous selection process, and is physically, academically, and psychologically fit. He is also the rolemodel for any and all Omzian soldiers, and places teamwork and integrity above his image as being a professional warfighter of the Omzian Army.

Gear
Unlike many other armies, the gear of an Omzian Mechanized Infantryman is quite spartan when compared to the advanced and excessively "battlesuits" of many other armies. This is a direct reflection on the Omzian Army's "Skills First, Appearance Second" philosophy, holding mobility and reliability as very important traits of any gear or equipment of an Omzian infantryman. However, the Omzian soldier uses his warfighting, fieldcraft, physical fitness, leadership, and survival skills as a quality that cannot be replaced by any battlesuit or the so-called "supersoldiers".

The garments and clothings of a standard Omzian soldier typically consists of a battle dress uniform with a digital universal camouflage system similar to the ACU, blending various designs and colours to make it compatible in both natural and urban environments around the world. With the soldier's name and the name of the Omzian Army on his chest, rank insignia on his shoulder and collar, he is easily identifiable. With his unit patch on his sides and infrared identification devices, he can easily engage in teamwork in both day and night. Beneath, a tan t-shirt and a pair of shocks paired with two large combat boots provide him with comfort. Further, an amazing array of pockets and his Standard Load Bearing System (SLOBES) allows him to carry a wide amount of gear, ammunition, and supplies. The BDU and garments also possesses several other features, allowing the soldier to be less affected by moisture and humidity while protecting him against fire as well. Under special conditions, specialized urban fighting, jungle, and mountain/cold-weather garments are available as well.

The soldier's body is protected with the standard Individual Protection Systems (IPROS), which is an armour system consisting of an extensive arrangement of various chemical fibers and inserts, protecting the soldier's head, upper neck, chest, stomach, back, shoulder, groin, upper leg, and his sides against shrapnel and light rifle rounds as well. He also wears kneecaps, a google to protect him against intense sunrays, dust, and other things harmful to the eye, and a helmet-mounted visor as well. A flexible hydration, urination, water processing, and body-cooling system allows him to hydrate himself with both water and performance-enhancing drinks that contains various nutrients. For food, both standard MREs and special "Endurance Meals" are available, along with performance-enhancing bars to add onto the ration.

Along with that, the Omzian mechanized soldier wears the Mk.IV version of the Omzian Standard Warfighting Soldier Combat System (WASC), consisting of an array of electronic equipment and other systems that will make him not only more effective on the battlefield, but more mobile and comfortable as well. Unlike many "battlesuits", it is a system of electronics that the soldier wears. The Omzian soldier is always equipped with a standard radio and digital communications system, a GPS-aided positioning and mapping system (in the form of a PDA-like handheld), a dual uplink-downlink system to link the soldier with other assets and platforms, a dual nightvision-IR goggle system, and a helmet-mounted video camera. This is all linked to a central computer system compacted into the form of a PDA-like computer system, with two colour LCD screens allowing not only the display of information, but the exchange of information among individual soldiers as well. The communication system linked to the computer can also allow the soldier to fully communicate with armoured vehicle crews and even aircrews for coordination, allowing the soldier to exchange information through both digital voice and text delivery methods, and even live video feeds as well. The computer is normally placed on the side of the soldier's torso, and it is normally controlled with a touchscreen system, though an array of sensors placed within the mouth cavity allows some flexibility in the control of the computer. This computer system is powered by a battery system, linked to an integrated recharge system, along with a backup solar battery.
Aside from the computer's LCD screens, the soldier can also optionally adopt a HUD system as well, replacing the standard visor on the helmet.

Weapons
Unlike many soldiers of other countries, it's quite common to see the Omzian mechanized infantryman to only stick with one weapon at a time. Thus, officially issued sidearm are rarely seen aside from the occasional personal revolvers and automatic pistols brought by the soldiers themselves. A standard Omzian mechanized infantryman operates the standard M20 rifle, which is based on the G45 design and utilizes a variety of composite materials in its construction, chambered in the 6.5mm Grendel round. It comes with a standard 30-round magazine or occasionally a 100-round drum magazine, and is configured to operate in single-shot, three-round burst, and full automatic modes as well - though full automatic is strongly discouraged and is very rarely used. The rifle also adopts a rail system, allowing the mounting of a low-power scope, a close-in combat sight to substitute the standard iron sight. On the bottom, a flashlight, a bayonet, an M203-like 40mm grenade launcher, or a special shotgun like system can also be used. On the sides, a variety of items can be mounted, including an Optiwand-like system for peeking around corners.

Aside from the rifle, a number of other weapons are available for those aside from riflemen. The automatic rifleman carries the M21 SAW, which is a modified version of the highly modular M21 designed as a light machine gun. The grenadier normally carries the M22 LGW, which is based on the OICW and utilizes the 25mm airburst round, though it can be substituted by the M23 Revolver-Based Grenade Launcher (RBGL/"Rebagel"), which is a 8-round revolver-based automatic grenade launcher utilizing the 40mm launched grenade. The Rocketeer carries the imported M81 Weasel LAW, which is a light anti-armour weapon than is highly versatile, and can be used against other targets such as bunkers, light-skinned vehicles, or even personnel. For special situations, a carbine rapid-fire version of the M20, termed the M20S Shortened, can also be carried for urban combat; in other situations, a sharpshooter version of the M20, termed the M20P Precision, can be carried by those seeking a sharpshooter role (note: not sniper).

Aside from these, the Omzian infantryman also carries a wide array of other items, including the M55 standard fragmentation grenade, the M56 golfball-sized mini-fragmentation grenade, WP and smoke grenades, thermite grenades, flashbangs, and even occasionally CS grenades (for riot control) as well. A standard combat knife is always carried, typically used for field craft but can also be used for close-in combat as well.

I've taken a new, artistic approach to organisation:

Mechanized Corps Organisation & Formation (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v693/Omz222/corps.png)

Note that this is not really intended for the Airborne and Infantry Corps, though they are all similar in structure in terms of support units.

OOC: Nothing is gained or lost, but some revisions in the active force order-of-battle to make the force more streamlined and logistics-friendly. In addition, with bold headings, headquarter locations, commanders, and having the division names in a more "polished" state (i.e. no "Heavy Armour Divisions"), this is hopefully easier to the eyes.

OOC: Each division, more or less, is around 20,000 - or more percisely, mechanized divisions are around 21,000 - 22,000 in personnel, while "light" divisions (i.e. Airborne Infantry, etc.) are in the range of 17,000 - 18,000. This includes both support personnel and combat personnel within the division (combat personnel, depending on the type of units, is about 20% - 26% of the division).

Each Group Army, depending on its composition, lies in the range of 650,000 - 750,000 in terms of manpower. Each Mechanized Corps ranges around 120,000 to 160,000 in manpower size.

Really though, I don't prefer to do personnel numbers, but here are some approximate figures.

OOC: Alright, dare I say this - this is the first attempt I've put at organization at the platoon and company levels, without getting into the support units on the battalion level (simply because combat units are far more interesting, even though it is not the only ones needed). [IMO it doesn't make sense to have your heavy weapons units organized in a manner that isn't organic to a rifle platoon. Also, I disagree with your placement of the 60mm mortars, usually those are included at the company level in the form of a mortar section.

I see you've elected to go with 4 platoons per company, the design choice is perhaps a bit strange, but understandable.]
Omz222
16-10-2005, 08:43
OOC: Alright, I've modified my layout, shifting the GPMGs to purely a platoon level and the ATGMs to a company level. As for the placement of the mortars, it might seem strange, but is done so to provide the platoon commander improved fire support capabilities.

OOC: Alright, take a look at the new Independent Tank Regiments. Whereas Armoured Cavalry is intended to be a light screening and reconnaissance force that locates the enemy threat and then falls back after the heavier divisions catches up, this is the breakthrough hammer to be used before the divisions do catch up.

[I disagre with you about what an ACR is capable of, during GW1 the 11th ACR dismantled an entire Republican Guards division without taking a casualty. However, it's a good idea to include these at the corps level, as they are generally used by the corps command to hit targets of opportunity and be the tip of the spear for the heavier elements of the corps.]

OOC: Depending on the unit's composition itself. Not sure if you are talking about the Battle of 73 Easting or not (probably the most famous armour engagement of the war; but that was the 2nd ACR as I remember, where two brigades of a full division were destroyed), but Omzian doctrine is still slightly different from those of the US Army. I do agree that IRL Armoured Cavalry is a very powerful asset, but in the Omzian Army it's designed more like a light screening force that can keep the enemy force pre-occupied until either the Independent Tank Regiment or/and additional divisions comes along, before it pulls out. Further, the tanks of Omzian ACRs, when compared with their counterparts in other units, are not armoured and armed as well but are much faster. I do agree with you on its value though, especially at the corps level.

A fianl update of army figures, seeing that the navy has been more or less kept the same. The creation of two smaller GAs, along the reduction to three tank types per corps (in which there are five types total in the army), makes rapid deployment to foreign territory and 'liberation' of foreign lands (aka establishing colonies) somewhat more easier.

Omzian Shock Armies and Guards Units
After the dissolution of the Presidental Honour Guard based on multiple reasons and causes, Army generals are either unwilling or unsure about the prospect of disbanding most of the units within the Honour Guard. Though concerns have been raised about their necessarity and added costs and financial burdens, on the other hand it has been determined that getting rid of them would prove to be a counterproductive solution in the long term. As the result, the units have been reorganized into Shock Armies, each completely under the command of the Omzian Army General Staffs to simplify the chain of command problem that plagued the Honour Guard.
In times of war, it is expected that these units will become the spearhead of other Omzian Army and Marine forces, while serving as an elite representation of the sledgehammer that is the revolutionary Omzian People's National Defence Forces.

NOTE: This is done on the little spare time that I now have. Depending on the reaction, I may do another in the future. With the unit's background also well established, it would also be one of the prominent units that I would deploy in a given conflict.

Also as a note, a portion of the actions portrayed as having been undertaken by the division in the war against Sniper Country was not RPed out directly, but they do fit the storyline that the war itself went along. Among the things that are not RPed out in NS but are agreed privately include the re-takeover of Hongazgrad. Of course, the details are not RPed out in NS, but instead originated from discussions and agreements with both CSJ and SC.

If there are any inaccuracies (i.e. the ones that the participants of the Homeland Defence / Omzian War may point out if certain actions do not fit the actual storyline), I apologize and will edit it accordingly.

History
The 15th Guards Tank Division, one of the more celebrated units of the Omzian Army, has a root that extends deep into Omzian military history and heritage. It was formed first as the 3rd People's Regiment of the SRLA during the stormy days of the beginning of the Omzian civil war, as a battalion-sized unit of partisans. The unit enjoyed a substantial quantity of armed action near its base north of Danara, primarily consisting of raids against government bases and infrastructure. After the union of the SRLA with Omazee's NPLA, the unit took a more conventional role and became the 3rd Regiment of the Omzian Liberation Army. By then, the regiment gained several hundreds more men, primarily absorbed from the pool of volunteers eager to join the ranks against the Fascist national government. By then, the Fascist's situation started to worsen, and a series of battles nevertheless continued where the regiment became involved in conventional combat. The capture of Fascist war materiel including tanks and medium artillery greatly assisted the unit, eventually decimating Fascist infantry and armour in the Battle of the Banks in September OY1. It became the first unit to triumphantly enter Port Hagras, the last major Omzian city to be captured by the Socialists (albeit without a fight), with great fanfare.

After the war, as Omazee's Five Year Plan called for a reformation of the new Omzian military, the unit became the 3rd Territorial Rifles Battalion. Peace ensued, but another army reformation and a general expansion of the military transformed the unit into the 10th Infantry Regiment. Units of the regiment engaged in limited action against Sniper Country on foreign soil in the Royal Palm Civil War (OOC: IIRC, since this took place two years ago), albeit without too much success, and then in the Fyreheart Civil War (again, IIRC) against the Old Ways forces, again with indecisive results. Following the devastating war against Melkor Unchained, which inflicted much damage on the Omzian air force and navy, a disarmament treaty forced the Omzian army to drastically reduce in size to only 300,000 personnel, and the whole military to 600,000. The regiment did not escape the downsizing, becoming the 5th Infantry Battalion. However, for the first time, the unit was assigned true motorized transportation, making it less of the foot infantry unit that it was before.

Years of discontent with disarmament and increasing involvements in international affairs demanded the government to take new measures, and so after a secret declaration by the Omzian military leadership that the disarmament treaty is to be ignored, the battalion was vastly expanded. It became the 115th Mechanized Infantry Regiment, and was given a plethora of new equipment and armoured vehicles, in addition to being subjected under new army doctrines and training regimens. Shortly before the outbreak of the Homeland Defence War, the unit was given a bulk of extra armoured vehicles and equipment, becoming the 5th Infantry Division, serving as one of the main mobile striking arms of the Omzian Army.

The Great Homeland Defence War thus, became the rite of passage for the 5th Infantry as its tanks and soldiers rapidly mobilized while a hail of missiles and bombs showered Hongazgrad. The unit, within the vicinity of Danara at that time, was immediately called into alert. Despite in striking distance, it was not diverted to aid and take place of the unprepared, surprised, and badly shaken infantry units that were assigned to defend Hongazgrad. This became one of the main blunders that many Omzian historians considered as a great failure on the part of the army, and despite talks of a counterattack against the Sniper Country landing forces, the plan was scrapped. The unit was temporarily assigned near Hongazgrad to prevent a breakout by Sniper Country forces (which did not happen), and other newly arriving units began to accompany it. Following speculations about a possible amphibious attack against Port Hagras, further west, the unit was immediately diverted there by rail to serve as a mobile armoured reserve for the already-stationed units defending the city, as few other extra armoured units were available in the area. Fortunately, this did not happen thanks to the Battle of Hagras Bay, and the unit eventually was stationed against near Hongazgrad to prevent a breakout. Elements of the units participated in minor to medium skirmishes on the grass fields north of Hongazgrad against Sniper Country and Omni Conglomerate forces, some ending in success and some ending in a draw. Nevertheless, the defeat of an entire 1000-men Omzian infantry regiment in the Battle of Hill 857 (OOC: decided on MSN but not truly RPed in NS) kept the unit on guard and redefined its importance to the tactical situation of the battlefield.

While the unit participated in additional skirmishes, both Smoke Jaguar and Omzian commanders began to finalize their plan to retake Hongazgrad and to deliver a decisive blow against the surrounded Sniper Country defenders in the city, the Omzian name for the plan being Operation THUNDERCLAP. The plan was to involve a combination of allied air, naval, and ground units, with the latter centered on mechanized units such as the 5th Infantry. During the finalization phase a citizens' revolt occurred in the city, and commanders debated for a short moment as to whether or not assist this citizen militia using forces from the unit. The proposal was eventually turned down in what was sometimes bitterly referred to as a "betrayal" by veterans of this failed rebellion, but it was not entirely a disadvantage for them, as Operation THUNDERCLAP would soon reveal.

On the moonless night of June 28, a combined wave of Smoke Jaguar and Omzian units finally moved against the city in swarms, supported by artillery and air support. To the south, Smoke Jaguar amphibious and naval units were ready to destroy any remaining enemy naval forces and deliver a fatal crunch from the south, while to the north the 5th Infantry moved against the city's western flank in a coordinated pincer movement with the mechanized units to the east. The unit's armoured vehicles began to incur heavy losses from enemy mines, traps, anti-tank weapons, and even dug-in tanks despite substantial support from infantry forces, and by day the casualty rate would only increase as the force moved into the densely urbanized areas of the city. Resupply using thin-skinned vehicles became suicidal, and IFVs, APCs, and infantry-carrying tanks were configured as ad-hoc resupply vehicles. Air support for the unit was evidentially limited, and units continued to suffer. Eventually, the 1st Regiment of the division, after suffering 80% casualties, pulled back, and the 3rd Regiment took its place. Vicious fighting continued even with the Smoke Jaguar amphibious landing to the south, which effectively sandwiched the enemy forces in the middle. An attempt taken by the Sniper Country commanders to evacuate Hongazgrad only produced limited numbers of survivors, and the rest were simply eradicated. Exhausted men in exhilaration finally reached the lines of their Smoke Jaguar comrades from the south a few days after the attempted evacuation, completing the sandwich maneuver that was instrumental to the operation's success.

The aftermath of the Second Battle of Honjaksgrad (Hongazgrad) was a victorious and joyful one, but for the men of the 5th Infantry, it was bittersweet. The division overall sustained a 65% casualty rate overall, with 122 tanks and 256 armoured infantry fighting vehicles wrecked, 8955 killed, 12 missing, and scores wounded. This included the division's commander, Colonel Joransky, who became a martyr after an enemy mortar shell struck him. Due to the division's heavy casualties, it was soon amalgamated with the 15th Infantry Division, forming the 15th Armoured Division. Due to the records of the combined units and the performance of the new unit in exercises, it eventually became the HG Armoured Division Sledgehammer of the Honour Guard following the latter's creation.

After the participation of the division's air defence assets in the defence of the Port Hagras area against Hiroshiko bombers during the Bombing of Hongazgrad, and after the disbanding of the Honour Guard, the unit was renamed and reorganized into its current form as the 15th Guards Tank Division. Today, the bulk of its assets are still based on OFAB Collen Lake, also the home of the First Shock Army.

Army Announces New Wartime Doctrine Changes

OSARIA (Omzian Forces News) - The Omzian Army General Staff today has unveiled a new set of army doctrine, tentatively named Wartime Army Regulations DY132. Having passed a grueling series of evaluations and review, these new regulations aim to improve the Army's ability to respond more rapidly to enemy threats, and to enhance the coherence of its organization.

The first major change prescribed is a change in the role of Military Districts. From now on, the Army Group - the MDs' wartime designation - is abolished, and the Military Districts are relegated to peacetime roles only. Further, Group Armies will no longer deploy under direct control of the Military Districts during wartime. Instead, they will deploy in two or three Group Army-strong Fronts, with its own command staff, and additional Front-level artillery, aviation, and logistical assets. It is hoped that this change will make operational deployments of Corps and Group Army-level units more convenient and flexible, avoid overstretching the command staff, and make the units easier to manage during offensive operations.

Another major change is the assignment of Air Force personnel directly to Army unit commands. To improve inter-service co-operation, mid-level Air Force liaison officers will be permanently assigned to Division, Corps, Group Army, and Front-level command staffs, to improve coordination with Air Force tactical air support during both planning and combat phases. Though some has raised concerns about reduced independence of Air Force operations, it is hoped that the move will be a benefit to both branches as a whole. In addition, Regimental and Battalion-level Forward Observation units will receive a permanently-attached Air Force warrant officer or sergeant Local Air Controller (LAC). The assignment of these specially-trained personnel allows FIST teams to call for air support with greater effectiveness.

Both artillery and maneuver units will be glad to hear that during combat operations, some corps-level artillery regiments may be assigned directly to divisions. This means that most divisions will be able to directly control 162 more guns and rocket launchers during some situations. Nevertheless, Corps command can still bring them back under their own control if they chooses.

Finally, a much more minor revision involves the nomenclature of units. Army documents and records will adopt a new naming system for all units from platoon to army level. Names for formations from the Regimental to the Group Army level will consist of a number followed by the unit type and level (e.g., the 112th Armoured Division is the 112.Armoured-Division or 112.Arm-Div, the LXVIII Corps is the 68 Corps, and the 30th Group Army is the 30.GrpArmy). Names for tactical formations will consist of numeral designations for each unit level separated by dashes in ascending order (e.g. 1st Platoon, A Company, 2nd Battalion, of the 12th Infantry Regiment is named 1/A/2/12.Inf-Regt). Fronts will be given letter names (for example, the Northwest Front).
