Act of Pains and Penalties

Today, after a joint session of the Tisopean Parliament, presided over by His Majesty, the House of Peers passed the Act of Pains and Penalties, nine-hundred and seventy-two votes to twenty eight. The House of Commons likewise unanamously approved the act.

The King thus gave his official assent at noon today; where, in the presence of the Privy Council, he signed and stamped the act with the Great Royal Seal.

The Act has been met with much contrevorsy. According to the new law, all religions and faiths, save for the Episcopalian (Anglican) faith under the Church of Tisopea (of which 98 percent of the population belong to, and of which the King is supreme head on earth), are now outlawed; penalties will range from crippling fines to life imprisonment. Up until this time, heavier taxes were the rule for all heretics.

All other clergy (besides those within the Church of Tisopea) are stripped of office and it is defined as illegal to lable oneself as such, under penalty of imprisonment and fine. To combat the sizeable (over thirty million (1 percent)) number of Roman Catholics, mass is outlawed, with the same penalty for all perticipants.

All subjects and citizens (including nobles and serfs) are also legally obligated to take the Oath of Supremecy upon attaining majority (age seventeen), regardless of faith. The oath proclaims the persons submission before the monarch and the state, as well as swearing loyalty to the King and acknowlegeing the Church of Tisopea as the one true faith.

Apparently, the King has had enough of "Heresy" as it is labled in the Act.

It should be noted that Parliament was then promptly dissolved, via Royal Writ, once the act was passed.
