OTTAWA
(AP)- Today, the Parliament of East Canada have voted to re-open the border with Kahta, ending a closing which has been in effect since the late 1990s. In an address to Parliament, Prime Minister Graves justified it by saying that "Kahta has made paths to reform", and that "We cannot close ourselves off forever."
The bill passed with much support, with only the New Democrats and Bloc Quebecois voting in opposition. Border activity has remained relatively quiet so far, although it is expected to pick up fairly shortly.
The reopening of the border was the first piece in a series of bills proposed by the Graves government to try and normalize relations with East Canada's southern neighbour.
