Hokiro City, Tujima
The Tujimian Director of Press released a statement today governing an altercation that occured last week in Hokiro City, deep within the Matushi Province of the Tujimian Empire. Due to the nation's regulated press, word of the incident did not reach international circuits until only moments ago.
According to the Tujimian government, a mass of some seven hundred Tujimian citizens marched on the palace of Lord General Satsumi Korri, governor of the Matushi Province. Their goal, according to Tujimian government sources, was to kidnap the General and hold him as ransom until Emperor Katsumoto Funai, ruler of Tujima granted the people the right to choose their own rulers through a parliament of sorts.
Tujimian sources state that on March 8, the aforementioned group of dissidents, led by an as of yet unamed political radical, adanced toward General Korri's home around ten o'clock in the morning. Having been alerted of the situation, General Korri dispatched his personal guards, as well as two dozen of the Emperor's elite Blue Guard, to stop the angry mob.
Outside the Governor's palace gates, the Emperial soldiers, mounted on horseback and bearing swords met the advancing mob. Tujimian sources then say that when the guards instructed the mob to vacate the grounds, rocks and sticks were hurled at the allegedly innocent soldiers. It was after the crowd became violent that the Tujimian swordsman drew their weapons and rode into the crowd. Soon after the charge, the mob fled, leaving behind some sixty dead and dying citizens. Only two of the Governor's personal guards were injured during the altercation, one seriously wounded by a stab wound to his thigh.
In response to the treasonous actions of his subjects, General Korri ordered the Provencial garrison, numbering nearly one-thousand soldiers into the city proper to "pacify" the population. Two-hundred and seven people were arrested, and an untold number were killed or wounded when they attempted to resist. The prisoners taken will most likely be tortured and executed for their supposed treason. Already Tujimian citizens are beginning to call this day "Red Tuesday".
