PIW releases 'Maidstone' river gunboat
Part of developing littoral warfare squadron

PORTLAND, Somerset (ASP) -- The Portland Iron Works may be known for having among the widest selections of super-sized capital ships in the world, but their latest release is a far cry from the superdreadnaughts plying the seas.

The new vessel, the Maidstone-class gunboat, is not designed for the so-called blue water navy. It has been built with brown water use in mind. Engineers say the Maidstone's low freeboard of only 3.9 metres makes it a poor option for travelling the seas, but its armament of four 155 mm ETC guns in two twin turrets makes it a deadly opponent for riverine combat.

"We wanted to give the and our export customers more flexibility with riverine operations," Rear Admiral Barbara Tucker (ISN-Ret.), the company's managing director, said in a statement issued at the company's headquarters. "This design brings deadly firepower in a compact design that we believe will be a boon for countries who have littoral warfare needs."

The ship also comes with two 105 mm mortars for use against fortified positions and includes the Rattlesnake CIWS suite. Electronics from the [i]Segura-class minehunters in the Spanish Navy were added to allow the Maidstone to detect and snuff out mines.

Tucker said the "a significant part" of the gunboat's 1,660 tonne displacement was devoted to weapons and protection with the idea of allowing it to survive small- to medium-arms fire.

"Littoral warfare can present unpredictable threats to a force unprepared for them," Tucker said. "We wanted to create an all-around design that would allow our customers to better manage the unpredictability."

After many years of careful comtemplation and close examination of our current military Scellia has realized that our navy is tto far out of date and far too small to actually be of any use. Thus after several years of pratically no naval spending and careful hoarding of money earmarked for the Scellian Navy we wish to purchase a fleet like no other commissoned. The preliminary list of ships we wish to purchase is as follows, the Scellian Admiralty appreciate any suggestions that the Portland Iron Works has to offer.

Subject: New order

Due to a recent explosion in our population and exponential growth in the industrial sector to a powerhouse economy with a $5.6 trillion GDP, this is in addition to the growth of our private arms sales to other nations which now totals $68.5 billion. To celebrate this new development in our nation, King Charles has informed me to improve our navies and to give our people something to be proud of in their heritage. Therefore I have attached details of our defence budget($485,112,267,688.80) and place an order for the following:

General Purpose Fleet (253 ships)
1 Independence-class pocket SD (BBGN)
1 Nanticoke-class heavy carrier (CVAN)
4 Forrest-class fleet carriers (CVN)
2 McVie-class light carriers (CVL)
5 Resolute-class nuclear powered battleships (BBGN)
5 Sea-class guided missile battlecruisers (BC)
10 Praeton-class heavy missile cruisers (CAGN)
15 Shield Bearer-class missile cruisers (CG)
20 Evermore-class destroyers (DDN)
25 Wixted-class frigates (FF)
30 Seminole-class corvettes (FL)
50 Piranha-class fast missile boats
25 Ossipee-class special operations boats (50 RIBs/50 CRRCs included)
20 Skipjack-class nuclear powered attack submarines (SSN)
10 Stalwart-class nuclear powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBN)
20 Insurgent-class special operations submarines
10 Lake-class mine clearance vessels
Cost: $315 billion

We would be appreciative if, as usual, the payment can be spread over the course of the production so as to lessen the negative economical effects. We thankyou for your previous services to our nation and hope that we will maintain our good relationship long into the future.

Subject: Order Pending

Hello once again our friends in PIW. We have come to order the following:

12 Multi-Role Naval Fleet (99 ships)

That will come out to a total of $850 billion. We would also like to make an adjustment to the fleet. We would like to replace the Forrest and Swiftsure-Classes with the more capable Gavin Newsom-class Trimaran hypercarrier. We would like 1 of these per fleet. This adjustment will better serve our navies doctrine. We would also like to know what the new price will be for all 12 Multi-Role Naval Fleets. We will also pay our friends an extra $3 million for the effort of having to adjust the price for us. Thank You once again for supplying us with such fabulous vessals.

Also could you ship the carriers with the nessessary aircrafts? Thank You. We will also pay for that of course.

Another note, we have been great place to buy our military vessal. So we would like to establish diplomatic and economic ties and become possible allies with your great nation. Would that be possible to arrange?

Last thing, how much would this support fleet cost us for the multi-role naval fleet?

10 Pasteur-class hospital ships (290) (5800)
5 Curie-Class Light Medical Ships (95) (950)
25 Normandy-class combat ships (355) (17,750)
12 Gabin-class roll-on/roll-off cargo vessels (76) (1900)
12 Smith-class fuel and munitions transport vessels (528) (13,200)
10 Aylesburgh-class submarine tender (300) (6000)
10 Flansburgh-class fleet replenishment vessel (300) (6000)

Add 12 of these to my order. Thank You very much.

The Portland Iron Works are delighted once again to see our friends from Space Union return to place another order with us. Your order of 12 Multi-Role Naval Fleets will be adjusted to include one Gavin Newsom-class hypercarrier in lieu of the normal allottment of two Forrest-class and two Swiftsure-class carriers.

The amount it would cost to change the carrier allottment would be $110 billion per fleet, making the total for the 12 Multi-Role Naval Fleets $2.17 trillion. The cost for the 12 support fleets you have requested would be $660 billion, or $55 billion per fleet. As a result, the total order would come to $2.83 trillion.

Since we are currently under a very large backlog, we estimate that it would take us approximately 12 NS years (12 RL days) following the conclusion of sea trials to complete your order with all of our shipyards working at maximum efficiency. GWS.72 Heron surface attack missile

Designed from Lyme and Martens’s experience with the GWS.52 Pelican anti-ship missile and the ALQ.220 Flamingo deceptive decoy, the GWS.72 Heron has the capacity of driving your opposition to distraction by its ability to conduct high speed diverted attacks at very low level. The Heron does so either with pre-programmed waypoints or using its very accurate hybrid navigation system (ring laser inertial navigation (INS) and global positioning systems (GPS)) and its low cassegrain radar seeker as a passive receiver to avoid enemy air defences as it proceeds towards its target. Once within striking distance, the Heron takes a radar snapshot of its target. Unlike planar array radars, cassegrain antennae, by their ability to amplify the collimation of radar returns, are more difficult to deflect or decoy using electronic countermeasures, and since the system is active only for the brief period required for target verification, it is extremely difficult to dissuade the Heron. Once the snapshot is taken, its radar seeker once more becomes a passive receiver and the missile accelerates to terminal velocity, impacting with a circular error probability (CEP) of less than two metres.

The GWS.72-b is slightly different in that it has been fitted with extending swept wings, similar to those used on the ALQ.220 Flamingo, that decrease the cruise velocity of the missile to just over supersonic speed, but which serve to extend the range by over 80 km.

Both the GWS.72-a and GWS.72-b variants possess an exceptionally capable automatic target recognition (ATR) system based on that used on the Rook DRA.1 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the GWS.52 Pelican anti-ship missile, further reducing the missile’s resistance to countermeasures, as well as a secure datalink (WSW.125b Ran) – which may be exchanged for the datalink system used by your nation – permitting a man to remain constantly within the command loop.

Background Working closely with the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy, the Portland Iron Works is in the process of developing several ships to specialise in littoral warfare operations and effectively provide support for army and other combat units. One of the considerations for the ISN was to create a littoral warfare submarine that would allow devastating land attack capabilities similar to those from a standard SSBN or SSGN but without bringing the large boats into a littoral warfare situation. The result of this was the Bulldog-class littoral surface attack submarine.

Armament Armed with the new land attack variant of the Heron missile developed by Lyme and Martens Defence Industries, the Bulldog can bring the destruction of longer-range land attack missiles into shallower waters where countermeasures are expected to be less present. The Heron is also equipped to make it more difficult for countermeasures to throw it off its target.

27-06-2005, 00:50
Background Littoral warfare planners from the Sarzonian Department of Defence realised that their current holdings for littoral warfare operations were inadequate to address the military's needs to support ground troops with naval fire in brown water combat. Evaluators turned to a long ago concept boat, the Sikorsky Aircraft-designed assault support patrol boat, to design a next generation version and the result is the Stills-class assault support patrol boat.

Armament The armament layout has been upgraded somewhat with a corresponding increase in length for the boat. Instead of 50 feet, the Stills measures 18 metres, or just under 60 feet. The 105 mm howitzer is still present on the Stills from the Vietnam-era creation, but a 40 mm grenade launcher and 30 mm autocannon have been added to give the Stills a more potent armament. Two .50 cal machine guns can be added if necessary.

Protection The original Sikorsky-built boat made use of a unique protection scheme called bar armour which explodes projectiles against bars set away from the hull to protect the inner hull itself, and a similar scheme finds its way to the new version. In addition, the Momentum Transfer Armour (MTA) scheme found in the IPO-145 Hoplite II MBT in service in the Imperial Praetonian Army has been adopted. This layer fires a metal projectile at an incoming projectile and is primarily effective against KE attacks. The main hull is built of amorphous steel, which is three times stronger than steel, and has been reinforced with biosteel in critical areas.

Propulsion Like its predecessor, the Stills has been designed with speed in mind, and its two diesel-electric hybrid engines feeding two waterjets propel the Stills at speeds of up to 50 knots. One small gas turbine engine allows for quieter running and emergency propulsion in the event the diesel-electric system breaks down, but is most effective when the Stills travels at 10 knots or less.

RE: Possible Joint Project

The Armed Republic of The Silver Sky has over and over seen the quality of the ships that PIW has produced. With the recently ended rash of Super Dreadnoughts being made and sent into active service The Silver Sky thinks that we are unpowered in this section of a naval Battlefield, because of this we would like to enlist your help in this monumental undertaking.

If you are interest please respond through classified means (TGs) and we will send you the basic stats(And I mean really basic) of our SD.

The Portland Iron Works is pleased to confirm this order from our friends in Space Union for 40 Coastal Patrol Squadrons. After discount for frequent purchasers, the total of $150 billion is reduced to $146.25 billion. We estimate that your order will be completed in eight NS years (8 RL days).

To answer your question regarding the Littoral Warfare Squadrons, they are designed to serve both offensive and defensive roles in the littoral environment, which usually refers to rivers and other shallow water locations. As such, they are not designed for coast guard-style duties. However, the Perseus could add some devastating firepower to a coastal defence platform.

We thank you for once again choosing the Portland Iron Works for your naval needs and we hope to hear from you again in the future!

Neptune-Class Trimaran Super Dreadnaught

History:
The inspiration for the Neptune-Class Super Dreadnaught began with the creation of both Credonia’s Credonia Class Super Dreadnought and Space Union’s Courageous-Class Super Dreadnaught and the possibility of them being exported to potentially hostile nations and the host of other SD’s built by PIW and exported to other nations. Up until then The Silver Sky Republican Navy had purchased Super Dreadnaughts from IPS or PIW, but these vessels were either lacking in power or everyone other nation and their grandma had one. After months of deliberation the decision was made that The Silver Sky Navy would design and produce their own Super Dreadnaught, and with the help of PIW we have produced what is before you today.

Armament:
Even before the Neptune-Class Super Dreadnaught had even begun design the decision was made to arm her with a main armament of at least 15x 25” guns. The mounting of 25” main guns on a SD was breaking the tradition of the usual main armament of either 27” or 30” guns, and although when you compare the guns the 25 incher seems to lack in stopping power gun for gun, the decrease in weight and increase in ROF was a great trade off, so while a Doujin-class or a ship like it is just about to fire, a Neptune-class would have already launched it’s 25” guns and be preparing another salvo. While this amount of guns (15) was good enough for awhile, with the arrival of the Northumberland Class Pocket-Superdreadnaught on the scene this amount was increased to 24 guns in 6 turrets. These guns are believed to have a broadside weight pound-per-pound greater then the Doujin-Class Super Dreadnaught. The Navy also made the decision to add 8x 8” railguns in four double turrets. The secondary armament consists of 24x 6” guns in 12 dual turrets, 12x 3” guns in single turrets along the out riggers.

The main missile armament consists of 12 x 96 cell Mk 136 VLS and 18 Hornet Medium ranged SAM launchers. The CIWS is comprised of 36x 'Rattlesnake' CIWS which consist of a 35mm ‘Rattlesnake’ chain gun, ‘Yellow Jacket’ Mini-SAM and decoys.

The Primary ASW armament is comprised of 6 x 650mm Torpedo tubes and 2x 324mm Torpedo tubes, an Anti-Torpedo CIWS is made up of 35mm Super-Cav rapid fire cannons and decoys to destroy/disable or confuse incoming enemy torpedoes.

Armor:
The Silver Sky Navy had decided early on that the Neptune-Class must be greatly armored if it were to survive in today’s world of huge Anti-Ship missiles and 30inch guns. The main armor scheme consist of a layer of Inconel metal plates (Purchased from Space Union), and layers of Advanced armour composite (titanium, vanadium, amorphous steel, aluminum, and ballistic ceramics.); further protection is provided by double-bottomed, reinforced keel, void spaces and a titanium honeycomb frame. Composite rods, KERI foam installed in void spaces, and ceramic kinetic reducing plates for further protection against KE attacks. With an average armor thickness of 1839.25mm and much greater in some areas the Neptune-class shrugs of anything below a 25 inch gun like a tank would shrug off small arms fire. This specific armor scheme was created in response to The Macabees’ Argentine-Class Galleon.

Other:
The Neptune-class Super Dreadnaught incorporates many stealth and countermeasure devices. Most of the stealth devices on the ship are relatively low tech, these include the elimination of any and all 90 Degree surfaces from the ship, this includes railings, stairs, hatches, and the conning tower, another measure is that all vertical/horizontal cylinder shapes have been removed including the gun barrel which is made up of a diamond shape, all radar/lidar/laser domes have been angled, and even the age old anchor ties have been reshaped. More high tech devices include LIDAR absorbing materials, and RADAR absorbing paint. Also included is a layer of Space Union’s Quiet Sound solution to the entire ship, this helps lower sound by up to 15-20 Decibels. Countermeasures include, Flares to confuse incoming IR-Seeking missiles; Electronic Jamming Optics System (EJOS); Chaff launchers to confuse incoming Active-Radar Seeking missiles; Active Directional and Un-Directional Radar Jamming System (ADUDRS): for use against Radar-seeking missiles and fighters, with limited capabilities against small surface ships; Laser Defense System (LDS): Consists of 6 Dome Laser emitters which target and destroy small missiles using lasers and can be used to disable laser guided weapons; 2 (1 bow and stern) Shortstop and Warlock Electronic Protection System (EPS): Disables most any incoming device with an electronically controlled fuse with an 85% success rate.

Another device to help lengthen the battle-life of a Neptune-class SD is that each ‘Rattlesnake’ CIWS gun and ‘Yellow Jacket’ Mini-SAM launcher has its own RADAR and LIDAR emitter/receiver for totally independent targeting, this allows for the engaging of over 36 targets and tracking of over 50,000 targets. Another feature is that each gun turret aboard the Neptune can be used for engaging an enemy missile threat, from the big 25” guns to the small 3” guns, they can all fire Fin-Stabilized MetalStorm Canisters or huge shotgun like rounds (25” shotgun anyone?). This feature allows the Neptune-Class Super Dreadnaught to engage many more threats then other Super Dreadnaughts.

Transmission From Baron Erik Strinnler
Greetings. The Military Kingdom of Yelm has been seeking a naval shipyard to fullfil it's needs. Due to our previous experience with your own company we have chosen Portland Iron Works. The War Delegation wishes a custom built vessel, which can carry many missiles varying from large ship to ship missiles, long range ship to air missiles, and short range ship to air missiles. The priority of this ship is to act as an anti-aircraft/anti-missile vessel, therefore it should carry no sort of cannon, if possible, and have perphaps one CWIS. For anti-submarine warfare two torpedo tubes should be sufficient. Please let us know if this order is possible.

Background: In an effort to address the unique threats presented by crawler mines placed on the ocean bottom and other assorted submerged threats, the Portland Iron Works set about to design a submarine to deal directly with the threats posed by such defences. Among the design specifications: A submarine armed with so-called underwater CIWS and including minehunting and sweeping technologies. The result of this planning and research is the Argonaut class countermeasures submarine.

Armament: To ensure the Argonaut is optimised for its defensive role in protecting surface and submerged threats, it has been designed with eight 35 mm supercavitating guns broadside to serve as a last-ditch defence against torpedoes. In addition, a new counter torpedo, designed to deploy upon detection of an enemy surface or submerged warship's firing of a torpedo, has been developed. This new 240 mm torpedo, the Epee, has been designed with a majority of its weight being made up of propulsion and guidance software, including GPS and targetting softwares with a small warhead to take out torpedoes. It is not designed to serve as an effective weapon against a surface or submerged warship, particularly with the emphasis on armour in many of today's warships, but it can serve as an anti-torpedo torpedo similar to AAA defenses. To serve as defence against larger torpedoes and against smaller escort vessels, the Argonaut also is armed with six 324 mm torpedo tubes.

Electronics: The Argonaut's hallmark is as a countermeasures submarine, and as a result, this is where the design sets itself apart from other submersibles. To counter assorted mines that threaten Sarzonian or allied threats, the Argonaut features the SLQ-53 mine countermeasures deep sweep system, AN/SQQ-32 minehunting sonar, and an AN/SLQ-48 mine neutralisation system. Similar to the old Osprey-class minehunters, the Argonaut uses a remotely controlled underwater vehicle to neutralise mines. Instead of some of the weapons outlay normally utilised by a patrol submarine, the Argonaut also includes two remotely controlled crab-shaped drones to detonate crawler mines before they can damage the fleet's vessels.

Protection: With the Argonaut's role as an escort and countermeasures submarine rather than a front line warship, emphasis has been placed on maximum stealth to allow the Argonaut to be a virtually "silent partner" for any fleet that employs it. To facilitate this stealth, the Argonaut has been covered with anaechoic tiles to reduce noise emissions and noise returned by active sonar. As a Sarzonian design, secondary emphasis has also been placed on survivability; thus, the Argonaut employs a double hull with an outer hull made of amorphous steel, a substance three times stronger than normal steel and non magnetic. The inner hull is made of a composite of titanium, vanadium and aluminum. The two hulls are separated by absorbant foam.

Propulsion: Great debate has centerd on whether to give the Argonaut a pressurised water reactor to allow it to remain submerged for several weeks at a time or a diesel electric engine to reduce noise and infared signatures emitted from a nuclear reactor. Ultimately, the PIW decided the initial run of the Argonaut would be powered by a Magnetohydrodynamic drive to ensure maximum stealth qualities. The drive, commonly referred to as a caterpillar drive, is virtually silent, making the Argonaut very difficult to detect with modern sensor systems.

We in Manhattan Prime have recently been looking to expand out navy, and where better to look than our Sarzonian friends?

We are especially interested in your Mahan, being both a capable flagship and not too large to stretch our modest naval budget. With very little coastline to defend the Manhattanite Navy is mainly defensive in outlook and so a small force that can perform the job of a larger force is perfect for us.

We also wish to purchase a small group of destroyers, who will be co-ordinated by the Mahan for anti-smuggling and coastal defense mission.

1x Mahan Class - $1.7 Billion
5x Holland Class - $2.3 Billion x 5 = $11.5 Billion

Total: $13.2 Billion, to be wired on confirmation

To: Rear Admiral Barbara Tucker (ISN-Ret.)
Managing Director, Portland Iron Works
From: Admiral Daniel Wilson, chief procurement officer, Axinon Navy

As you may or may not know, Axinon has recently become far more active in international affairs. Unfortunately, more international action necessitates a larger military. As Axinon is an island nation, we have started the Battlefleet Project to try and modernize the Axinon navy. The Battlefleet Project t is well underway but we (the higher-ups in Axinon's naval and military establishment) have realized:

A.) The third battlefleet can not be built as planned. Unforseen issues have left the 3rd Battlefleet without a viable flagship. After looking at options from ADC, your shipyards and other shipyards, we have determined that one Brandywine-class light command dreadnaught would suit our needs very well.

B.) A successful navy needs good subs. As ADC has no viable sub program, we have decided to buy subs for the battlefleet project at the same time.

C.) We decided it would probably be a good idea to have a battlefleet of tested and true ships. As your nation and shipyard both have long histories of superb ships, we would be interested in buying a General Purpose Fleet to serve as our "4th battlefleet" from you.

List of purchases:
1 x Brandywine-class light command dreadnaught (65 billion USD)
40 x Skipjack-class nuclear powered attack submarines (SSN) (76 billion USD)
20 x Stalwart-class nuclear powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) (48 billion USD)
1 x General Purpose Fleet (315 billion USD)

Price:
(65+76+48)*.975 + 315
499,275,000,000 USD

We will pay you in even installments over the time it takes the ships to be built
((totalprice/number of years) per year)

Admiral Tucker,

As part of the much needed overhaul of the Imperial Autocracy’s naval forces I have been authorised to contact your esteemed establishment in regards to making certain purchases to supplement our current strength. Our navy is predominantly made up of smaller vessels such as destroyers and frigates and the High Command is interested in purchasing some much heavier equipment.

1 x Patinkin-class fleet command vessel
$8.5 billion

2 x Estado-class battleships
$11 billion

And to make a nice round total,

10 x Octopus-class multi-role patrol vessels
$1.5 billion

Total
$21 billion

We are confident that your checks into the Imperial Autocracy’s finances will confirm that we are capable of meeting this price.

PIW inks deal for shipyard space

PORTLAND (ASP) -- The Portland Iron Works reached an agreement Wednesday with the Khailfah Government in Ottoman Khaif to construct a naval shipyard in Mercin in the Turkish sub province of Icel. The agreement ensures the creation of over 1,000 new jobs for citizens in the area and provides PIW with additional shipbuilding facilities.

"We're excited about the expansion of our international profile," said Rear Admiral Barbara Tucker (ISN-Ret.), the company's managing director. "With the sponsorship arrangement we have secured for the 25th World Cup, we believe these moves should benefit the Portland Iron Works greatly."

The company's agreement (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9816059&postcount=13) with World Cup organisers allows PIW to advertise in World Cup stadia in exchange for the construction of new venues and maintenance of current facilities. Tucker said the company would take on the new responsibilities "in a heartbeat," saying "you've got to give something to get something.

"We've studied all the implications of the move, including the prospects of exploring avenues we aren't normally known for," she said. "This dovetails nicely with our aim to become a more widely-known brand in the international community for naval designs and possibly other ventures."

Tucker would not comment on rumours that PIW is considering acquiring the Incorporated Ordnance Company or Avalon Aerospace Corporation, referring questions to the company's public affairs officer, who had no comment.

"This isn't a day for us to discuss other ventures we're considering," Tucker said. "This is a day to celebrate two agreements we've worked very diligently to attain."

Admiral Tucker,

I would like to inquire about the status of this project.

The Holy Empire of Saint Fedski is in need of a fleet of ships capable of carrying an entire armoured division in as few ships as possible.
Armoured Division consists of:
400 Main Battle Tanks (Leopard 2)
120 Armoured Personnel Carriers (M113A3)
240 Fuel Tankers (XM1091)
25 PzH 2000s (Self Propelled Artillery)
20 Trucks (M923)

Personnel Totals: 5555

The goal is no more than 10 ships....preferably 5-7.

Background: At the request of the Saint Fedski military, engineers at the Portland Iron Works set to the task of creating a large combat transport that can deliver an armoured division in no more than ten ships of the same model. Since the venerable Normandy-class heavy combat transport ship is not designed to carry the large number of armoured vehicles required except in much larger numbers, engineers chose to create essentially an enlarged version of the Normandy with greater emphasis placed on protection and delivery of increased combat assets. The result was the Endeavour class large combat transport ship.

Protection Similar to the ideas employed by the Normandy herself, the Endeavour brings devastating fire in a landing support platform that is incredibly survivable. Toward that end, the Endeavour is armed with two 356 mm ETC guns, the same calibre as found on the new General Dent class Trimaran command large crusiers and on several warships in the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy. Two very large mortars and six naval railguns also support the coastal bombardment role of the Endeavour. The protection scheme of the Normandy also informs the design of the Endeavour, and it is increased in strength to provide protection for the combat load.

Endeavour-class large combat transport ship (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y83/Alidor/Ships/EndeavourClassC.png)
Length: 263 m; Beam: 47 m; Draught: 7.1 m
Displacement: 38,920 tonnes fully laden
Armament: 2 x 1 356 mm ETC guns in A & Y position; 2 x 280 mm mortars in B & X positions; 6 x 155 mm naval railguns port and starboard; 1 x ASROC launcher; 18 x 35 mm Rattlesnake CIWS.
Protection: 406 mm-508 mm advanced armour composite (titanium, vanadium, aluminum, amorphous steel, ballistic ceramics); torpedo bulge, double-bottomed, reinforced keel with void spaces built on honeycomb frame. Composite rods and ceramic plates provide additional protection against KE attacks. Ship is designed to minimize radar cross section. Survivability features added include fragmentation and nuclear blast protection and shock-hardened structure.
Propulsion: Four gas turbines; two shafts. Two diesel turbines provide auxiliary propulsion.
Speed: 18 knots.
Aircraft: Capable of carrying and launching 18 SZ-15 Dragon transport or ASW helicopters.
Complement: 420 sailors and officers; 180 air crew; up to 1,000 combat personnel.
Cargo capacity: Each can carry 50 Z-34 'Bonham' Main Battle Tanks, 15 Z-15 'Landshark' Armoured Personnel Carriers, 30 Fuel Tankers, 5 Z-38 'Panther' self-propelled artillery units; and two trucks. Can also carry up to 1,000 combat personnel. Five vehicle decks of 40,000 square feet; three cargo holds capable of carrying 50,000 cubic feet of storage.
Countermeasures: Mk 53 Nulka-similar decoy system (used as a hovering rocket to draw missiles away from the ship); two ASW and ASuW decoys; detection and jamming system providing surveillance, warning, and electronic countermeasures against missile attacks.
Sensors: Surface-search radar; three-dimensional air search radar; surface surveillance and tracking radar.
Price: $2.5 billion

We wish to purchase a navy capable of quickly transporting a force of approximately 300,000 troops in quick invasion forces. It is imperative that this fleet can defend itself, but I wish it's primary objective to be landing ground based forces across a coastline or port. The Normandy-class heavy combat transport ship looks to be ships we want for such a task. I merely wish to know how many of those ships would be needed to transport the force I mentioned, plus many armoured units. I also wish to know from your knowledge what would be the best amount of hospital and munition ships that would best accompany such an invasion fleet to keep it supplied etc... And what would be the upkeep cost of such a force. Thankyou greatly.

The Portland Iron Works thanks you for your correspondance with respect to a large invasion force possibly centred on our Normandy-class heavy combat transport ships. It would take roughly 500 Normandy-class heavy combat transport ships to deliver 300,000 soldiers to a combat theatre in addition to armoured combat units.

We would recommend at least one Pasteur-class hospital ship per 10 combatant warships. As with supply vessels, we would recommend at least one supply ship such as a Ryzner-class heavy transport hovercraft or a Smith-class fuel and munitions transport vessel per seven or eight combatants at a minimum, though we prefer more of a 1:5 ratio for our fleets.

If you are interested, we can provide you with military advisors who can provide you with greater insights into our methods for combat personnel and logistics deliveries.

Thankyou for the advice, as an official navy in my armed forces does not exist, and we have always relied on ground based force, our knowledge of naval warfare matters is not extensive, we would greatly appreciate your military advice on such matters. But for now, 500 Normandy-class Transport vessels sounds good, backed up by 100 Smith-class fuel and munitions transport vessels, and 50 Pasteur-class hospital ships, sounds good for the invasion force im looking for, this would be $742.5 Billion if I'm not mistaken, and I can afford those I'm sure. And while I understand the normandy can defend itself, I would like to know from your experience what would be a good escourt fleet to protect those number of vessels, from both air and sea attacks during a prolonged invasion and occupation stage. Also do these vessels come with weapons and fuel, or is it possible to buy them with standard weapons layouts? Thankyou greatly.

In an effort to keep the Imperial Kreynoria Navy up to date and mighty due to our Pacific location, we seek to purchase ships from Portland Iron Works, judged by a panel of military expert to be the best provider to be Portland. Therefore, the empire seeks to purchase a General Purpose Fleet, for a cost of $315 million. The money shall be wired immediately upon confirmation.

[OOC: I'd have to do a background check on you before I approve a sale of the Vigilant class so I'm not ready to write a IC reply yet (basically, that means I look through your post history to see if you have a history of supporting nations Sarzonia is hostile to or if your foreign policy gives us red flags), but PIW wouldn't grant production rights to the Vigilant class to any but the closest of allies, and the allies we would grant production rights to design and build their own SDs.

I'm not saying it's a Godmode to have 20 Vigilants, but I'd be really hesitant about giving out the design to someone who'd have more Vigilants than I have SDs of any class at the moment.]

OCC: Go right ahead and look at my history. You will find that I never attacked you or your allies or threatened them. But if I did, my apologies to you and your allies.

Your Excellency,
In order to expand the South Seas Armada, my nation has extensively examined different storefronts and has determined your's to have much of what we require for it. We thusly wish to start by purchasing 75 Julianus-class SSGN's and 75 Argonaut-class escort/countermeasures submarines, and that will come to a total of $251.25 billion. We have confirmed the first payment of $86 billion now. We will send the rest of the payments over the decade (week IRL).

Greetings once again, I understand that you may have misgivings about my nations stance in the Questers situation, and we understood you supporting your Commowealth ally in such a situation, but I beg you to understand that we acted in the interests of protecting the smaller nation Opticher from trade exploitation. But it did not come to war, and my nation hold nothing against any of Questers allies, only his actions at the time. But the situation has been resolved, Opticher asked all parties to leave his nation alone, and even before that I requested diplomatic negotiations with him over the situation. The AIC and Axis acted only to protect the smaller nation, and while you have every right to deny our order of naval vessels, we ask that you accept our most humble apologies on this matter in the hopes of unharmed business relations in these matters. We will gladly pay any fine or tax on our order, but we wish for you to consider our offer, we take that you have no approached us on the ships over that crisis as a good sign. Thankyou greatly.

Signed, Supreme Sovereign of Andaras Prime.

Subject: Valiant-class order

The Portland Iron Works thanks you for your interest in our products. However, our government has expressed serious reservations about your government's requests to purchase several "interesting" weapons systems, including those "frowned upon by other militaries or governments." As such, we are unable to confirm your order at present.

We would require assurances that you would not employ such weapons against civilian populations or in support of terrorist organisations before we would process this order.

OOC: Have you done my hovercraft yet?OOC: To be honest, I'm not sure if I can do the design and keep it in a MT framework. I might be able to design one but it would most likely be a bit beyond my normal tech range.

Sarz, how many SDs is it reasonable for a nation my size to have? That really depends on a lot of factors.

Is your nation an island nation or does it have a long coastline?
Does your nation have a strong economy (not the NSUN ranking) or is it weak?
What is your navy's number one priority? A nation's development of its navy is very different if they're building a defensive navy compared to one that is designed to project power.

I think when I was about your size, I probably had three pocket SDs in my navy (which I classify differently from SDs) and I didn't have a true SD until sometime in January of this year.
