Istanbul, the Ottoman Empire
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abdul Hamid III, the Sublime Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, stood, framed by the window behind him. His ancient dress differed greatly from the clothes of others in the room, but he didn't care. He was dressed in the traditional clothes of a Sultan, while they were all wearing suits. It didn't matter in any way, and everyone there knew it. The man in the traditional dress was in charge, at the moment. He was the Sultan.

Abruptly, the Sultan turned, his eyes boring holes into each of the other men's heads as his gaze passed over them. That was how it seemed to them, that is. He was feared, as his father had been, as his father's father had been, and so back till Osman himself, founder of the dynasty. It had been Osman who had journeyed from the east on horseback, to conquer this land for posterity. And he had suceeded there.

Now the Sultan spoke, his voice calm and stable. "As we must do," he said, "We must. Allah has preordained all of our possible paths, but it is up to us to find which one he means for us and up to us to take it. Thus, I take the path that is laid out for us. We must leave the isolationist stance of our forefathers and become seperate, new, a part of the Modern World." The other men clapped.

Official Statement of the Turkish Government:

Long have we stayed, locked in ourselves.
Never did we realize what a great place the world is.
Now, we ask for all other nations to form communications with us, to make embassies, military bases, and such.
The time of the Ottomans has returned!

~Signed~
The Sublime Sultan Abdul Hamid III

"See, brother, nothing changed." It was his isolationist, right-wing, brother, Ibrahim Murad. Murad had not supported returning to the world and it seemed that his right-wing views were winning out. Murad (as all called him) was angry that his brother had disregarded him and was taking all oppurtunities to strike back, often in anger.

But not then, for it was Murad who got struck, by their other brother, Achmed Rashid. He was a strong liberal and a strong man. "Kepp your mouth shut. Someone will reply, sooner or later..."

(Just a tag for now, I'm afraid I've not time to reply to everything I'd like just now, but BG is somewhat curious to see where Turkey may head.)

OOC:That's cool. I'd assume a lot of nations would be concerned with that type of thing. I don't have time for a long post...so here is what I do have time for...

As he wandered down the stairs, the Sultan looked about him. His 4 sons, Mehmed, Bayalik, Achmed Rahid, and Suleimain, followe him, waddling about. Mehmed, the eldest, was 12, with Bayalik 11, Achmed Rahid 7, and Suleimain 3. He smiled at them, innocently. It was good to be part of the world again.

Mehmed walked up to his father, his face straight. "I heard what you did."

"What? How?" his father was astounded.

"News travels fast."

That it does. What do you think of it?"

"I think it's good. We'll return to the world, dad, once someone contacts us."

Wasting no time to capitalize on the historically rich friendship between the Ottoman Sultanate and The Most Christian Kings of France, the Sultans Palace would be greeted with a phone call, straight from Versailles.

On the phone was none other than M. de Miromensil, Governer of the Kings Household, and basically the number two man in France, since he had the closest access to His Majesty.

"Simply delightful...His Most Christian Majesty Louis XX wishes to extend his warmest friendship to Your Islamic Highness, with every hope of resuming the endevors of our ancestors (IE a Franco/Turkish alliance)."

"If it is acceptable to Your Emminence, His Majesty Louis XX wishes to dispatch a delegation to Istanbul, and is prepared to recieve one in Versailles. Once again, our warmest salutations."

Picking up the phone, the Sultan's eys lit up in happiness. "Of course we would like that! An alliance would be splendid.

Also, as to the state visit idea, we would welcome you to Istanbul or Ankara (your choice), but regret to say all our diplomats are needed, so a delegation from us is only possible in the near furute."

"Trey Bien!" said Miromensil, eyes bright as well.

Within the hour a Ministry of State Airbus-1000 had departed from Grenoble, and was making break neck speed straight to Istanbul. On board the aircraft were crates and crates of artwork, jewelery, and even a few sports cars.

The delegation was headed by M. d'Etienne, M. de Vergennes' (Minister of State to His Most Christian Majesty) protege. They would first set up an open forum...but the clever ones would know: the Ottoman Empire would fit quite well into the Holy Leauge.

OOC:A radicalist Muslim nation in the Holy League? Far-fetched, unless you want to invade me.

BIC:

Ottoman men prepared an rehersead for the coming of the French delegation. This was their big chance to impress a modern nation, unless something blew up (not literally of course.).

((not too much different from a radicalist Catholic nation, but ah well, Id be happy with trade, and I know Wingert really has his heart on free passage of the Bosphorus...anywhoo welcome aboard))

The Airbus continued on its course, its arrival slated for the morrow.
