Kahta to attempt to clone now-extinct animals

Kahta
12-03-2005, 04:00
I am looking for any nations that know how to clone now-extinct animals, posses any DNA, or samples of these animals. I am looking to promote tourism within Kahta, such as exotic hunting.

Signed,

Czar Sam Fabus

OOC: Sorry, this is so short, I'm very tired, but I think this is a good RP idea, and I wanted to get it out.

The Confederacy would be quite pleased if the scientists of Katha could re-create the famed Giant Spotted Walrus that inhabitated the Northern islands of our nation, until a yacht accident slaughtered the only remaining herd. Fortunantely, we aquired several hundred-thousand strands of DNA from the corpses and will deposit them, along with the total required funds to the suggest research facility.

We thank you for undergoing this endeavor.

Official Communique from the Resi Corporation:

Why settle for extinct animals? Why not create new ones with new attributes. By splicing a jellyfish gene into most animal spieces, take monkies for example, you can make an animal that glows bright green under ultraviolet light. "Glowmonkies", as we call them, make for excellent night hunting in our resort nation of Bandonia. Just give the tourists special guns with built-in ultraviolet lights and sights, and let them loose in the jungles with a three-monkey maximum and a signed waver that absolves you from any harm that could befall them, ever.

We'll give you the technology for this, for a nominal fee.

I have spoken with my scientists, and they said that this would be a perfect endeavor to engage in, especially since there is a lot of genetic diversity with the samples of DNA. The only thing we ask, is that we can clone some for ourselves.

Yes, I accpe this offer, thank you very much for this, I wish to express my most sincere attitude by giving you a pack Boston Terriers. They are very good as pets, and are great pets for young children.

The nation of Nova Panoptik has considerable cloning experience, our total of species bought back to existence now stands at 113. We also have technologies to simulate the change to the environment that will ocour when extinct species are reintroduced to nature (this was developed after the reintroduction of the Maiy Fox caused a further 5 extinctions before going extnct again due to lack of food). If neccessary we have the ability to splice new genes into a species dna, which will allow it to survive it different conditions than those it used to live in, as well as "suicide genes" to prevent over-success.

We will be able to send a large team of personel and equipment, lead by Dr Richard Pharmer of the Nimbus City Institute for Reinstatement of Extinct Species (NCIRES) within the week.

I am going to run this out of Burlington Vermont, its a nice city, perfect for undergoing scientific research.

I look forward to meeting the research teams, and begining this.

I will provide a list at a later time, of what animals Kahta wishes to modify, or bring back from extinction.

I would like to bring back:
Brown Fox (native to Kahta)

Black Deer (Native to Kaha)

Wooly Mammoth

Sabertooth tiger (We would like to make it smaller, and less aggressive)

Blue Antelope (Below)

I will disclose a complete list later, I hope this helps.

Good day, Dr Richard Pharmer here, we're all ready to go. Some of the more fragile equipment wont be out for a few more days. We are going to head for Burlington Vermont, we can set up temporary acomadation if neccessary, and we should...excuse me a minute....wow, ive just recieved a shortlist of the animals you want to reinstate. I would like to tell you that the wooly mammoth already lives in the south of Nova Panoptik, it was reinstated just last year in fact, so we can get those going stright away.
For the other animals, we need access to fossils and other records detailing the environments they lived in. We can start sequencing new, more docile genes for the sabretooths, we can use normal house cat genes for that i think...

Anyway, ill see you soon, Pharmer out.

Hello, we have looked over the full list of species that you have requested clones for, and there are no problems with most of the selections; however we have had trouble reinstating bird species in the past - the feathers are usually absent from birds cloned from fossils, preventing them from flight. We are still, at a best estimate, many years off creating functional birds.

Also we request to have further access to the genes from the Blue Antelope - our own ecosystem needs patching up in some places, and the Blue Antelope would be perfect for the lower hills of the Opal Mountains, where the environment has to be tended constantly at the moment.

I can give you several herds of Blue Antelope, how about 50 herds of 20? They should be able to reproduce quite quickly at that rate. They are well adapted to the temperate forests of Southern Kahta, mainly in Mississippi. I might add, they are very good eating, and you should make sure that they

As for the bird problems, I think that you might not be doing it correctly, I have seen birds cloned from fossils, and they had the correct feathers. We did this through using computers to change the DNA to how we thought the patterns would be. It is a risky process, but it can be done with paintence and time.

Thank you for your generosity, but only 25 herds will be neccessary. There are no worries about food - the reason we need them is to control the spread of fast growing Lupus Grass, a genetically enginered food crop, which turned out not to be ideal for human consumption...

We have looked over the data you sent us regarding the birds, and we think we have a solution. It can be time consuming as we have to reconstruct the entire genome, but once we have a single copy its much easier though.

I'm sure your aware, Dr Pharmer and his team arrived earlier today. They already have several of the species sequenced, and are ready to start the cloning process tommorow. We should have examples for at least six of the 'extinct' species tommorow. Im sorry i cant get Dr Pharmer on the Network, but he tends to throw himself into his work...

To the Esteemed Czar Sam Fabus, Potentate of Kahta:

We usually charge about $250 per person to hunt glowmonkies for up to five hours, and give them red glowing headbands to keep them from injuring one of their own. As for the technology, it's fairly simple, so we're thinking a price of $8 million would be more than acceptable for free use of this technology. In a few years, it'd pay for itself.

Is this acceptable to you?

Not if the animals cloned have recently gone extinct, due to human influence. Then it is more like restoring the balance of nature. This is why we refer to our buisness as reinstatement, as opposed to simply cloning.

These will eat the grass in large numbers, they do however, cause fatal accidents if stuck by cars, as their horns are quite large.

We will send your scientists the entire genome, we've been working on this for a long time, and have mapped the genomes of most of the birds that we have samples of.

Ok, that is great, I look forward to hearing from him. This project is looking like it will be a major success.

Dr Pharmer and three members of his team walk boldy into the main hall in the research complex, Burlington Vermont. Following them are a range of computerized cages, rolling along on wheels. Inside the cages are a raneg of animals - all of them previously extinct.
Dr Pharmer walks over to the group of Kahtaen scientists and officials who are there to see his work, and after freindly greetings, they settle inat the main table to discuss the habitats and the reintroducion process of the animals to the environment.
Sitting on Pharmers lap peacefully is a small, docile, long-toothed cat - the Sabre Kitten, an entirely new species that developed during the cloning process. It is a big hit back in Nova Panoptik, more than 2000 have been ordered by pet lovers across the country...

Hello, cloning of many species has been succesful. These include:
Bubal Hartebeast, Aurochs, Schomburgk’s Deer, European Wild Horse, Queen of Shelba's Gazelle, the Labrador duck (the first successfully cloned bird species from the NCIRES team!) and a small type of Sabre toothed cat, which turned out a bit smaller than wanted, but is good anyway.
We can provide you with complete genomic records of the remaining uncloned species, as well as sequencing machines. From there you should be able to finish the project within a month.
We have left a list of environments which the animals will eb suited to with your scientists, they should be able to put it to good use.
Thank you for this opertunity, the experience learned here will be invaluable back home.
