ROME, Roman Republic:

Emperor Rodin Hartian made the arrangements at the Roman Senate for the arrival of Yelm and Squornshelous. The two, locked in a bitter war over the Canadian province of British Columbia, were coming to Rome to talk peace and divide British Columbia fairly once and for all. The Romans had an interest in the talks as well- they made an offer to both Squornshelous and Yelm for the territory of Vancouver Island, and they were going to use the peace talks to present fully their offer for the Island. Of course, the offer would be secondary- peace was the primary objective.

Each delegation was to be escorted by the Roman Army from the airport to the Senate. They were provided the full protection that Rome gives to any ambassador, as Rome wanted to make sure that each felt safe and comfortable in Rome. The Romans were willing to do anything they can for Yelm and Squornshelous, if only to make sure that by them enjoying their stay they might be able to better discuss the peace terms.

A plane painted in a basic military gray with a red sunburst over black on the tail landed at Rome International Airport. It did not taxi to a gate, but instead went to a quieter area of the tarmac where a motorcade of military vehicles and limos drove out to meet it. Three men exited the plane and got into one of the limozines. After this, the motorcade turned and left the airport via a service exit and proceeded towards the Roman Senate.

Warlord Erik Fredrikson looked out of the window of his Gulfstream Jet. The aircraft was now over Rome, the majestic city. He only heard of the city from tales when he was younger speaking of Norse expeditions which attempted to destroy the city. Yet here it still stands. The plane touched lightly down on the airport's pavement, and the aircraft went in the appropiate hanger. Several Roman military vehicles were waiting as well as a limo. The three made their way down to their vehicles. Once the three were inside the Warlord turned to Chieftan William Rollo, "Are you sure you have everything William?" The Chieftan turned towards his commander, "Yes Warlord, I am sure of it." With that the hanger doors opened and the convoy made it's way to the Roman Senate.

After a brief wait, the Squornshelan delegation was ushered into a room with a large table dominating most of the space. Through a door on the opposite side, the Yelmish representatives appeared. As the two groups seated themselves across the table from each other, a third group entered from another door. The romans sat down in the remaining chairs and. . .

OOC: I think we're both kinda waiting for RomeW here.

OOC: Okay, okay, my bad...I have 28 pages worth of essays to finish for the end of the month, so my participation here may be spotty. Still, I'll try to contribute as much as I can.

IC:

As the Yelmish and Squornshelian (OOC: let me know if I have the correct nationality forms) delegates entered the Roman Senate, the Praetor Extraterritorialis (Foreign Minister), Jomo Marea, was waiting for them in the lobby. He had already spoken to the Delegates before to inform them of the itinerary for the Conference, so each knew at the very least of each other.

"Welcome. I already know who you are so let us get down to business. Please proceed to Room 540 on the fifth floor- that's where we'll hold the talks."

Marea proceeded to lead each delegate to the office, which was a large boardroom equipped with the latest computer presentation equipment.

"Here, we will be drawing up ideas for the split of British Columbia. We have our own ideas but we would also like your ideas as well. What I would like each of you to do is take half an hour (OOC: one post) to explain your positions and we'll proceed from there."

Warlord Fredrikson looked at the projection. He turned to look at his two Chieftans who were searching for a paper. A single piece of paper was handed to the Warlord. "This is what we have proposed. We will maintain our complete control of all of British Colombia, and we will retreat our forces from the Northwest Territories and from Southern Alaska. A Demilitarized zone along the border I believe should be put foward, as well as a dramatic decrease in the size of our military forces along the border. This is what we have prepared and have nothing more to say. We wish to hear what the Squornshelous delegate has to say about the matter." The Warlord looked up and waited for the Squornshelous delegate's response.

"Okay. Thank you Mr. Fredrikson. Squornshelous?"

(OOC: Squornshelous, what's your delegation leader's name?)

OOC: The main negotiator is Admiral Gunnar Dackell

IC:
Admiral Dackell stood and read from a sheet of paper. "Squornshelous will consent to Yelmish control of British Columbia, and agree that the rest of the territory should remain Squornshelan. We call for immediate withdrawls from Alaska, Northwest Territories and The Yukon Territory. We will also remain in control of the Southern extremities fo Alaska, including Juneau and the rest of the islands in the vincinity. We agree to the establishment of a demilitarized zone and to cutbacks in the troops actively on the border. In summary, we find few faults with the general ideas of the Yelmish proposal, we simply wished to be sure of the details concerning Yukon and Alaska." The admiral placed the paper on the table, "As far as the island of Vancouver goes, since Yelm is to be given copmlete control of it, it falls to Yelm to discuss Roman interest in it."

"Okay then. This seems to have gone over pretty well. I take it that now we have reached an agreement or are close to reaching one.

With that in mind, I'd like to present the Roman offer for Vancouver Island. The island is 14,000 square miles, and as such we will be willing to pay $500 billion for it. We are willing to negotitate on this matter."

Warlord Fredrikson looked on as the Roman delegate finished, "We can accept the terms but we must ask that we can be able to maintain a very small port, and battalion size military base. Such bases would not interfere with your control over the island."

"Those terms are acceptable. We would also like to know if our two governments can work together regarding the operation of the Straits of Georgia, Queen Charlotte and Juan de Foca to proper facilitate our interests in the area."

Because of these recent developments, the Imperium has decided to reopen the border between the state of Washington and Vancouver Island and British Columbia. The bridges will be rebuilt soon.

Also, the Imperium will not restrict access to the Juan de Fuca Strait.

Thank you. Would you also like to work together regarding the operations of the Straits?
Yelm

"The Straits can be jointly monitored by our two Coast Guards. I personally would suggest a joint headquarters in Vancouver Island. Of course if you wish a Roman officer will be in command of the unit." The Warlord waited a few seconds before turning to Admiral Dackell, "Also as for the decrease of military the King has suggested a 50% decrease in total military equipment, soldiers, and machinery. Proof must be made via satellite and inspectors. Is this acceptable?"

"Agreed to in full."

"Admiral, your response?"

Dackell considered for a moment, considering the very large amount of troops currently stationed in the war zone, pulling out half of them would leave more than enough to deal with anything.
"Yes, that will be acceptable. I suggest a timeline of 4 months to complete the demobilization."

The Warlord nodded, "Very well. Does either delegate wish to add anything?"

Dackell conferred briefly with his associates, and then shook his head. "As far as Squornshelous is concerned, this peace conference has achieved all of its objectives."

"Very well then. With your consent, I will declare this Conference over. However, both of you are allowed to stay in Rome as long as you'd like."

The Warlord nodded toward the Chieftans to pack their things, "I am afraid we cannot stay for more than four hours. I am needed at the homeland immediately. Thank you for your time." The Warlord and his two Chieftans left and quickly went in the limo. They arrived at the airport and boarded their private jet.

OOC: We can just assume they arrived safely.
