NEWS CONFERENCE, SHALRIRORCHIAN HOMEWORLD OF SHALCORIA (Ceyae Chi System)
Reporter 1: "Madame President, speculation has been rampant about the situation in the Wuwesau Octavus System. Is Wuwesau's silence on the comm nets REALLY a malfunction?"
President Alynna Raese: "No, and that is why I called this press conference. The Shalcorian government now has explicit information regarding the disposition of the Wuwesau system and the Republic colony located there."
Reporter 5: "Disposition?"
President Alynna Raese: "One week ago contact with the Wuwesau Octavus System was lost. We immediately dispatched a patrol frigate to investigate. The frigate was attacked when it reached the system, but before it departed it managed to scan the Colony and send back these images and sensor readings."
[a holopicture of Colony World Sultana flickers onto the screen, eliciting gasps from the press. The world has been systematically bombarded and turned into an organic sludge, with hundreds of bizarre creatures ringing the planet from orbit]
President Alynna Raese (grimly): As you can see, we are reasonably certain that there are no survivors. The entire planet has been terraformed by some powerful force. Now these creatures that you see attacked our ship, and are presumably responsible for the destruction of the colony as well. They are completely organic...their ships are living creatures. Insofar as we can tell, they are like a hive of insects...they swarmed out of the Vetaran Nebula and consumed the entire colony."
[Shouting from the press corps]
Reporter 11: "Madame President, what ARE these aliens? And why have they attacked us?"
President Alynna Raese: "Their motivations are unknown, but we DO know they have a name...they are called the Meturorin. Don't ask how we found out...it's classified."
Reporter 7: "President Raese, do we know how many of these Meturorin invaded the system?"
President Alynna Raese: "That's also classified. I can, however, tell you that at this very hour a Shalrirorchian task force is preparing to hyperspace to Sultana to repel this vicious attack on our nation. That's all."
