Here You Will Fight to the Death for Our Amusement! (open FT)

Across the galaxy, small bands of many races begin to vanish. Their ships and machines of war drawn with them into the shadowed depths of hyperspace...

Humanoids, intelligent machines, unspeakable monstrous forms; all gathered in holding cells inside a massive complex. A single voice intones in a thousand alien tongues:

"Greetings, Warriors, and welcome to our Proving Grounds! Here, in the hidden reaches of the Warp, you, the chosen of your Race, will wage a primal, technological, mythic struggle! According to the most ancient of natural laws, only the fittest are permitted the right to live!! Be assured: success brings freedom, failure brings death, cowardice brings eternal torment!"

Suddenly, alarmingly, the nervous system of every prisoner is brought into contact with the churning, tattered, undying minds of those who refused to fight.. minds no longer capable of anything but pain...

"LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!"

OOC: My main nation is busy right now, so I thought I'd set up a pleasant diversion :cool:

If you want to join, please post the following specs so you can begin... fighting to the death for my amusement:

Your nation name
Your species (with details, if required)
Your combat units, including
1. a basic foot soldier with basic weapons and equipment
2. an elite foot soldier with elite weapons and equipment
3. a powered armor suit/heavy combat droid
4. tanks and other ground assault craft
5. non-space fighter
6. space fighter
7. Space frigates and capital ships. (The fighting is real, dispatch them at your own risk)

Multiple designs/multi-purpose designs are encouraged.

OOC: I'd like to know if my lead character can not possibly die, since I'd like to use him as a Messiah later on (figure battling different people in the Warp is the closest thing an Ork can have to a religious expirience).

Of course, I can always substitute another fighter. Working on my unit list right now...

OOC:
Here are the units I would use. I don't know how many were allowed, so I left that off.

Basic Soldier: Da Boyz (choppa, slugga)
Elite Soldier: Nobz (choppas, big shoota, ‘eavy armer)
Light Combat Vehilce: Killer Kan
Heavy Combat Vehicle #1: Ok Dreadnought
Heavy Combat Vehicle #2: Looted Riesepanzer (think WH40K Leman Rus)
Aircraft: Fighta-bomma (air and space)

Kendari: Perfectly acceptable. However, I would warn you that these games are real. Dead real. Anything you send is going to be destroyed unless it survives the final rounds. You might want to send a more expendible version of droid. I'd like to see your other military units also. Maybe you could throw in a capital ship or two, if you're willing to part with it.

Greenskinz: See above. You might want to send Orks who aren't legends yet, but could become legends for surviving my sadistic machinations. Also, I'd like a link on Ork units in 40k.

Gronde: Just a short list please. Come to think of it, I'll just check out 40k units for you and Greenie.

OOC: I get the impression that (IC) you aren't exactly asking permission before taking the fighters, so what would be acceptable to the Kendaryn government isn't important. ;)

I won't send anything that would cripple my military if lost, of course, but I can spare enough to make an interesting team...

I was just showing you Gorteth as an example of my technology/magic mix, by the way.

There are three species common in Kendari, and a number of small minorities. Most common are humans, descended from the ancient Kherandisar. Second most prevalent are the semi-feline humanoids native to the planet of Kendari, known as the Nertar. Finally, there are the X class robots, making up about 10% of the population.

The most logical group for this would be a patrol ship from one of the more dangerous sections of the Kendaryn border; they're a tough lot, but it wouldn't really surprise anyone when they vanished.

Basic foot soldier:
Human, or Nertar.
Armed with a Narvok blast rifle, light Narvok and medium Tor Ganot hand blasters, and a fairly low-grade close combat weapon of choice, generally some variety of knife.
No armor.

Elite foot soldier: Royal Guard
Human, Nertar, or WX robot (a civilian-class robot that decided to join the military).
Armed with: Narvok blast rifle, light or heavy Tor Ganot blast rifle, heavy Narvok and Tor Ganot hand blasters, repeating Pulsar III, six programmable energy grenades, Tolmadren energy sword.
Medium armor, with weapon harness. The helmet has some extra sensory equipment.

Heavy combat droid: MX War Robot
Weapons depend on model; everything a Royal Guard carries, and usually some other stuff. I'd list the standard arsenal of an MX-38, which would show you pretty much everything, but it's really too long...
Heavy battlesteel armor; also, a shield generator with two back-ups.

Ground assault craft: None. Fighters (see below) are used instead, or MX units.

Fighters (Space, atmosphere, and low-altitude hovering):
One person
Fast and agile. Armed with two forward mounted Narvok ray cannons, two forward mounted Tor Ganot cannons, two rear mounted Tor Ganot cannons, and a minedropper.
The vehicle is lightly armored, and too small to run effective shield generaters.
Heavy fighter
Slower than the above craft, but better armed and considerably harder to destroy. Armed with four heavy turrets in the front, three in the back, six light turrets in the front, and four in the back. Light turrets can switch between Narvok and Tor Ganot cannons; heavy turrets, the next more powerful version of each, as well as an array of nine blast rifles of either type. It is also equiped with a mine dropper.
This vessel can also be piloted by one individual; it can carry four in comfort or twice that in cramped quarters. It has heavy armor, five shield generators, and shield layering abilities.

Battleship:
The third most powerful craft in the Kendaryn military, including the battlestations that guard the three primary star systems of Kendari; anything weaker would stand no chance, in some parts of the border. Armed two front mounted and two rear mounted Supreme cannons, seven Type IV turrets, 38 Type III turrets, and 50 Type II (heavy) turrets.
It has a great deal of heavy armor and ten of the second strongest shield generaters Kendari can produce. There is space for a number of fighters; the size of the group actually carried depends on the captain's preferences.

Weapon info:
Narvok weapons are very versatile; most settings focus on speed. They are the most popular because of the options they provide.
Tor Ganot is noted for providing the maximum destruction for the minimum energy. These weapons fire bolts of something with properties between those of energy and matter, which revert to heat and kinetic energy on impact.
Pulsars are light hand blasters intended for shipboard combat, where a powerful, misplaced shot might put a hole in the hull and cause major problems. They're fast and effective, but completely incapable of piercing armor.

How's that sound? I'm happy to adjust numbers to fit what you're looking for, and I can send a weaker ship if that one seems too powerful...

Okay, we're always "welcoming" new contestents, but I think we're ready for our very first match! Bear in mind we have many of your race within our holding cells: one battle won't decide the game.

Scene: An opulent circular arena. A plain marble floor measures 60 feet in diameter, and is framed by a luxurious grey wall. Semi-circular pillars jut out from the ornate panneling, and rise vertically for 20 feet, to an even more ridiculously wealthy ceiling, decked with hanging boroque statues. Despite the lack of any apparent source, the room is well lit. The pillars provide some cover, although they are built into the wall, and can be flanked easily.

There are two archways on opposite sides of the room, sealed by massive doors.

"Enlightened beings of the cosmos! Behold the 422nd generation of the Proving Grounds! Watch as these primitive creatures battle for animal survival and brutal dominance! Brought here for our merciful study and education, these specimens can advance their own evolution, as well as our knowledge, while engaging in the brutal bloodsport they so enjoy. Without any further adu, I present the first round!"

"Behold, the mighty Greenskinz!"

The right door lifts up to reveal three Ork-piloted Death Machines (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/orks/catalog/killerkan.htm), armed with blood-dripping mechanical claws. In addition, one carries a powerful machine-gun, the second a death-dealing flamethrower, the third a dangerous complement of rockets. They grind confidently into the chamber.

"Behold, the mighty Gronde!"

The left door lifts up to reveal a naked, blindfolded conscript, armed with a pointed stick. He stumbles through the archway as if by accident, swinging his stick comically at invisible attackers.

The doors slowly slide downward.

"LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!"

Thaeo: That will do nicely.

Kendari: Thanks a bunch, but I was thinking it might be more interesting with capital ships AND smaller "frigate" type ships. It's your choice (OOC) but I'd like to see that battleship with the proper ratio of smaller ships.
Kindura

Note: Gronde, your conscript has been briefed before the match, he cannot take off his blindfold, or he will forfeit the match, along with the lives of five of his teammates. He will also be placed in an Eternal Torment Device, which I need not describe twice. Toodles!

OOC:
*laughs*
Is that because you haven't been provided with the list yet, or can we expect similar mismatches in the future battles?

Sure, I'll throw in a couple medium-sized choices...

Destoyer:
This swift-moving craft is armed with two front mounted Type IV cannons, six Type III turrets, 30 Type II turrets, 30 Type I turrets, two guided rocket launchers, and mine dropper array. Similar armor to the heavy fighter, and six shield generators.

Frigate:
Armed with 20 Type III turrets, 30 Type II turrets, and 40 Type I turrets, this heavily armored craft has eight shield generators. It can be built to carry a small number of fighters or a reasonable force of soldiers.

OOC: Well, thems the breaks Gronde! Hopefully you won't be knocked out completely. But just to be fair...

IC:

The three Killer Kans stomped into the arena, smoke belching from their engines and half-functional servo motors whirring wildly. Killa Klaws snapped eagerly in the air, just looking for something to tear into. After a few seconds of posturing, they spotted the Gronde conscript. The first Kan, armed with a big shoota, immediately went into action. While the other two hung back the Ork Pilutt madly flipped switches and pulled levers, sending the mech lurching across the arena.

After taking a few steps, the big shoota opened up on the conscript. Large-caliber bullets smashed into the walls and ground around him, yet miracoulousy none struck the unfortunate conscript. This only enraged the Pilutt, who proceeded to switch to a lower gear and positiviely raced across the arena, klaws out and waiting to snap the man in two.

The conscipt, sensing attack, wildly swung his stick in the air. Just the Kan was upon him the stick connected, yanking hose out of socket and spraying hydraulic fluid all over the arena. The Kan stumbled around, the conscript this time striking it on its engine. Something inside fell loose, jamming the main steering mechanism. Now completely out of control the Killer Kan danced crazily into the arena. Suddenly it stopped, gave a few engine whines, and exploded. Flaming wreckage rained down onto the arena, striking the two remaining kans but not the conscript.

The two Kans were stunned, but not for long. Their pilutts bellowing in rage they charged across the arena, forgoing any weapon and seeking only to snap the human in two.

Right, this seems interesting enough to actually make me make stats for this nation of buccaneers...Since this is the first time I've defined any stats, I'm putting all versions of the troops down. Kindura, you can decide what I get to use...
Basically the space pirates from the Metroid series, except with my own vehicles

1. a basic foot soldier with basic weapons and equipment
Pirate Trooper
Armed with a galvanic accelerator cannon (high velocity rifle) or quantumn assault cannon (beam weapon). All equipped with forearm-mounted photonic power-scythe (powered melee weapon, can cut through tank armour but unwieldy for that)

2. an elite foot soldier with elite weapons and equipment
Pirate Commando
Armed with variable pulse cannon (heavy beam weapon) or dark matter cannon (heavy kinetic weapon, but less effective against vehicles). E-grenade launcher built into both weapons, designed to work against powered armour.
Equipped with an energy sycthe for melee, and a forearm-mounted energy shield, which can only be activated for brief periods.
Also equipped with thrusters for rapid movement.
Light powered armour.

Pirate Aerotrooper
Equipped with light powered armour, and a jetpack. Capable of flight for indefinite periods. Equipped with both a variable pulse cannon and missile systems. Jetpack has a large heat signature.

Shadow Pirate
Pirate equipped with a cloaking device. Only works for the visible spectrum, pirates show up in the infra-red. Cloak uses a lot of power, so they are limited to wielding dual photonic power scythes.

3. a powered armor suit/heavy combat droid
Elite Pirate
Heavily armoured, phazon-enhanced pirate. Three times the size of a pirate commando (i.e. four and a half times the size of your standard human). Equipped with a shoulder-mounted incendiary plasma launcher, shoulder-mounted artillery cannon. Heavy (tank-grade) galvanic accelerator cannon. Cloaking device like shadow pirate (zero-point energy source carried). Energy siphon system; energy from energy weapons merely stored to power weapons. Vulnerable to concussive (kinetic/explosive) weapons however.

4. tanks and other ground assault craft
Papyrus class (http://aa.1asphost.com/AllyG/papyrus.JPG) heavy assault tank
Top (gravitic tank);
Two heavy galvanic accelerator cannons
Four twin quantum assault cannons
One SAM battery
Two heavy boser cannons
Bottom (tracked tank);
Two heavy galvanic accelerator cannons
One SAM battery

Main tank can separate (http://aa.1asphost.com/AllyG/papyrussplit.JPG)into two parts for extra manouverability.

5. non-space fighter
N/A for this nation

6. space fighter
The Stallion class (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/TheSilverTurtle/stallionclassheavyfighter.jpg) heavy fighter.
Weapons;
Six ELS missiles tubes.
One medium anti-proton cannon
One heavy particle beam cannon
Other;
Pirate low-observability technology.
Additional cloaking field (disadvantage makes a ship-shaped gap in microwave background radiation)
Low acceleration for fighter.
Phazon power source

The Quadron (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/TheSilverTurtle/quadronfighter.jpg) fighter
Four medium spacialite crozon energisers
Very high acceleration
Phazon power source

7. Space frigates and capital ships. (The fighting is real, dispatch them at your own risk)
Raven class (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/TheSilverTurtle/ravenfighting2.jpg) Deep Standoff Attack craft (DSA)
Length; 498m
Width; 967m
Height; 202m
Power; Zero-Point Energy power source
Offensive Weapons;
Six heavy spacialite crozon energisers (...bigass energy guns)
Two spacialite crozonic disintegrators (really bigass energy guns)
Defensive;
42 50 MW Point Defence Lasers (PDLs)
1200 Twin gattling Point Defence Cannons (PDCs)
Energy shield

ooc> As humorous as this fight would have been in that case, my military does not even have conscripts. My many, many space marine chapters are mainly the only ones traveling around space during times of peace, anyways. Shall I go forward as though it is simply a space marine stripped of his power armor? It will make things a bit more interesting.

Also, my military has evolved a good deal away from the WH40k imperial/space marine tech. I will post some specifics later and link various parts of my storefront to make info easy to find.

ooc> But of coarse. ;) I might as well just do so now. He will still be a space marine, but that serves to make it even funnier.

ic> The lone, naked marine seemed to regain his sense of awareness. He held his pointy stick skillfully, as if it would actually do something. He only wished that he was given a better instrument in which to honor his nation. As the Orkish machines lurched ever closer, the marine thought of a some way to fight; to survive. His senses were keen and his knowledge of such machines was considerable. He charged at the machines until there was one on either side of him. He threw the stick expertly like a javalin attempting to aim at the small opening in the machine to his left. It flew directly at the gap at a high speed. The effect would matter little, however, for only seconds later, a giant saw from the other came down with the sickening sound of metal grinding through bone and flesh.

ooc> Sorry, this post was a little rushed.

The Ork was eagerly anticipating tearing the 'ooman apart with his giant killer klaws, and of boasting about it loudly back at the Drop, when a pointy stick flew through his viewslit and into his brain. With most of his grey tissue damaged, the Ork fell into a stupor and collapsed onto the controls, sending the kan lumbering forward at increased speed. It crashed into a wall to the right of the marine, tipping over backwards like a child's windup-toy, its legs pumping in the air uselessly.

The other Kan was more fortunate. Reaching the marine seconds after the skewering of his komrad, the Pilutt swung his saw down vertically onto marine. Two equal halves fell apart, split right down the center as the Killer Kan did a victory lap, even though there appeared to be no audience.

Scene: A vast, grey expanse. The light seems to emanate from all directions at once, yet remain ambient. Is this a virtual reality simulation? An infinite space hidden within the warp? To describe the nature of this place would be to translate your most advanced science or literature into the shieking of a chimpanzee, and yet true understanding would reduce your mind to ashes.

Intelligences move about, at one with the light.

1st Being: "The battle did not proceed as planned. We will gleen little of scientific value."

He is clearly quite aggravated the fight lasted longer than two seconds.

2nd Being: "The standard configuration of Round 2 must be altered slightly. We will enlarge the Gronde force, while adding an equal number of Orks."

3rd Being: "The tribe of Greenskinz will be demoralized by their ignoble victory. The initial battle placement must create maximum confusion. This will aggravate the potential panic, while allowing the Orks to capitalize on their superior close combat ability."

4th Being: "I see you plan for the future."

3rd Being: "Indeed. A Gronde victory will endow the Marines and other humans with a sense of confidence that might later be upset, while Greenskinz will be given a sense of desperation, later turning to the longing for a Champion, and the will to defy fate. Failing this, they will become a useful 'heel' for more promising tribes. Alternatively, a Greenskinz victory might create an air of uncertainty among the contestants, increasing overall efficiency."

1st Being: "Concur, the round will be otherwise unaltered."

2nd Being: "Concur."

4th Being: "Concur."

Scene: The original arena. No time has passed. The floor is remarkably filthy for such a small fight. An thin puddle of pinkish hydraulic fluid has already filled half the arena, mixing copiously with the blood, brains, and feces of the skewered marine. The explosion of the Kan has littered the area with shrapnel; the wreckage still blazes, smoke gathering among the statues on the ceiling. Another machine lies disabled against a wall, while the third stands in the center, it's claw held high, scanning the area for some threat.

The whole grizzly display has been rendered to every gladiator in the games.

**The Proving Grounds, Round 2: Vengeance!**

With sudden shock, the contestants materialize half a meter above the ground, and they feel the jarring impact of their boots on the hard marble.

The archways being to the east and west, and the west side being filled with hydraulic fluid..

On the north side: 10 light space marines, 8 tactical space marines, 3 terminators, 1 assault terminator. Additionally 4 assault space marines with jump-packs, 1 champion (commander)

On the south side: 7 slugga boyz, 7 shoota boyz, 2 burna boyz, 2 stick bommas, 4 nobz. Additionally, 4 stormboyz with jetpacks, 1 warboss (commander).

All of these are armed with a diverse array of their respective weapons.

You may make your moves over the next six seconds, then I'll have a little surprise for you...

Shalrirorchian Special Forces Commando Team-

Shalrirorchians:

Profile: Felinoid

Statistics:
-Above average agility
-Slightly above average strength
-Excellent night vision

Arms and Armor:

Shalrirorchian stealth armor-
rovides solid protection against physical and energy-based weapons. Flowmetal provides maximum mobility to the wearer. Some versions come with a personal cloaking device that obscures the soldier and makes him a more difficult target.

PR-55 Particle Rifle-

Standard infantry weapon of the Republic. Comes with a 2X scope for long-range execution of targets. The weapon fires a highly-accelerated stream of particles (hence the name) at near-lightspeed. The weapon is particularly effective at cutting armor plating.

HW-211 Plasma Rifle-
Support rifle in use by Shalrirorchian infantry. Fires superheated plasma charges for heavy damage to target. Weapon is most effective at closer ranges to prevent plasma diffusion.

Fanblade-

This archaic Shalrirorchian weapon is uniformly deployed throughout the military. Every Shalrirorchian warrior possesses one. The modern version can collapse to be easily concealed and carried. It most closely resembles a double halberd, with the blades on opposing sides of the staff. The blades are filed down to a monomolecular edge....they will, in effect, cut almost anything. The Fanblade is a mark of the Shalrirorchian warrior past, and is highly treasured among them.

ooc> Note, some of the pics in my space marine section are out dated. For more recent pics, the games-workshop website will have them.

ic> The space marines hit the floor and, as trained over many, many years, sprung into action. The champion unlatched his thunder hammer and the sound of energy crackled through the air. On his other arm was a combat shield and he was holding a plasma pistol. He was a gifted leader, as were all champions, and he knew that curve balls could be thrown at any time. There was only one objective in his mind as he saw his enemy. Kill as many orks as possible as fast as possible. This thought took only 2-3 seconds and he shouted a command.
"Code Omega!" Every space marine there knew what it was. It was a defencive combat manuver in which missiles fire on the largest threat(s), other heavy guns target the elites, and the rest fire on enemy infantry. The main threat was definately the war boss. The elites were the Nobz and the infantry targets were the boyz. A light marine and a tactical marine unloaded one krak missile each into the boss and 2 others opened fire with their heavy bolters into the nobz. The Terminator with the assult cannon targeted them as well. The rest of the tactical and light marines and terminators fired on the boyz. The space marines lived for these intense scenarios, their will was unbreakable and their discipline was unshakable. Even the light marines, the innitiates, were well trained and disciplined.

An exercise in Lightning weaponry, it is fitted with both a tesla coil and a wire-lightning generator. It also comes with a complement of four unguided fusion rockets. Its armour is slightly lighter than the Flash, though it comes with a light shielding unit. It is a 6-wheel unit.

3. Piloted Assault Vehicle (PAV)
Valiant Class
Designed for anti-vehicle combat, it is a battle quad, and armed with a battery of Fusion Rockets, A hyper velocity cannon, and a Vulcan cannon. Its armour is around 1.5x the amount on a Flash, and is equipped with a medium shielding device.

4. Piloted Siege Vehicle (PSV)
Bulldog Class
Armed to crack fortified defences, and is a hovertank. It is fitted with twelve Fusion Rockets, Twin Long Range Plasma Cannons, Two Light Cannon Turrets, and a battery of Anti-air rockets. Its armour is fairly heavy, and is also equipped with both energy dissipators and kinetic shielding. It is a cold day in hell when more than five of these are spotted on a battlefield.

5. Piloted VTOL Vehicle (PVV)
Brawler
A VTOL designed with Air-to-Air combat in mind, though daring pilots have been known to launch their fusion missiles at ground targets. It is fitted with twelve Fusion Missiles, and twin Masers. A tail turret is fitted with twin Cyclic Laser cannons. Its armour is very light, though it has a medium shielding device.

6. Piloted Starfighter (PSF)
Lancet
A heavy torpedo bomber with a loadout for crippling starships. It is fitted with Fusion Torpedoes, and a single Morningstar antimatter missile (think Wing Commander). It has a tail turret, armed with a Cyclic Laser and a battery of Interceptor missiles. Its armour is considered medium, and is fitted with a medium shielding device. It has no atmospheric capability, though it is possible to engage in orbital bombardment.

7. Frigates and Starships

(As yet unseen; will be developed in the later stages of the conflict between The Ineffable Empire and the Redball Pirates)
The Chozo class Advanced Lancer Combat Suit (http://aa.1asphost.com/AllyG/mp2left.jpg) (ALCS, affectionately known as the alcoholics or alkies) is the latest development by the Ineffable advanced research department (the same boffins who brought you the Doujin-sized muffin and the Papyrus tank, subsequently pilfered by the Redball pirates). Currently only produced in small numbers, and unavailable for international sale (although several independant bounty hunters have negotiated deals for one), it is quite possibly the most advanced piece of Ineffable technology ever.
Designed to approximate the army-stopping power of the Tweedle-Dees with the mobility and unobtrusiveness of infantry, the Chozo battlesuit is designed for Lancers to operate alone facing entire armies (...just not all at once).
The powersuit ustilises the user's superconducting neural web to ensure ease of use. The suit has a strong, surface-hugging energy shield, and the main armament is a cannon on the right arm. While this reduces the users hand usage to the left, it is nevertheless worth it.
The cannon can fire multiple weapons;
Power Beam - Basic weapon, about as effective as a bullet. Rapid firing. Can charge for a far more powerful shot. Charge can be combined with missile for a super-missile, effective even against unshielded, lightly-armoured starships.
Ice Beam - Specialised weapon, cools anything in the path of the beam to near-absolute-zero. Can be charged to freeze enemies solid.
Wave Beam - Mainly electrical energy, three beams fired as one. Effective against both infantry and mechs. Slight homing capacity. Can be charged for a single, more powerful shot, can short circuit electrical equipment. Charge can be combined with missile for Wavebuster; big purple beam of energy that sticks to the enemy until they die or the missile ammunition reserves are depleted.
Plasma beam - Fires a beam of plasma. can be charged for short range, powerful (can incinerate a standard Lancer's armour) blast. Can be combined with missiles for a...flamethrower :confused:
Missiles - Effective anti-armour weapon, part matter part energy. Physical components synthesised from zero-point energy. Limited reserves. Can be combined with beams for different effects.
The suit can also 'morph' into a 'ball'. This function has been referred to by the test-pilots (at least, the survivors from the second generation; the first were horribly twisted and crushed, the second generation wisely transformed the wearer etc into an energy state contained within the sphere) as the 'morph-ball'. In this form there remains two weapons, an unlimited supply of small energy-based bombs, and a limited supply of power bombs. The morphball is also equipped with a 'spider' ball function, allowing it to go almost anywhere, and a 'boost' function to allow rapidity of travel.
But that's not all. The suit is also equipped with a small tractor, or 'grapple', beam which allows the user to swing Tarzan-like from roofs. A small booster is also installed which can give an extra boost after a jump, allowing wearers to reach heights almost twice their own. A highly damaging 'screw' attack is also included, engaged when the wearer decides to activate it while jumping.
There are several variants of this suit. The basic suit can be upgraded with large shoulder-pads to become the varia suit, which permits extra protection from extremes of heat and cold (although the wearer of this suit can survive unaided in space, as long as they're a sufficient distance from a star), and another upgrade provides the same manouverability underwater as on land, with a gravity boost built in. Later in the Redball conflict, a Lancer sent in to investigate the pirates mining of a strange material known only as Phazon also discovered ~#~#~Blanked for matters of Ineffable Security~#~#~ 'Phazon suit', provides protection from the radiation from Phazon, and also has an additional beam weapon capable of taking down a shielded starship when in extreme concentrations of Phazon, but will use up the supply rapidly.
Suggestions that this battlesuit has been constructed using alien technology salvaged from the ruins on Lumina have been strenuously denied by the government, but all access to the research into the ruins and the ruins themselves (and surrounding area) has been restricted to government-employed scientists.
(Well, if I'm fighting the Metroid Space Pirates, what do you think I was going to use?)

Tweedle-Dum/Tweedle-Dee (http://www.andromedatv.com/images/episode_galleries/210/210b.jpg)class planetary assault mecha
The only Ineffable "Bigass Gigantic" mechs. Standing fifty metres tall, these are armed with six minigun-like uber-heavy versions of forcelances, three in each forearm, which additionally house a anti-starship class boser cannon which pack two-kilogram antimatter slugs. Two heavy gauss cannons (20" caliber) are deployable from the shoulders, and in the chest are a large and assorted variety of missiles, ranging from anti-tank rockets and missiles, to cruise missiles, to anti-aircraft missiles, to anti-city missiles with anti-matter or nuclear warheads. These have twenty micro-fusion powerplants, carried around the mechas body. A minimum of five are required to power the mecha at standard-power for a week, however, and the extras serve to increase the strength/firepower, or to extend the lifespan or serve as backups for battle-damaged plants. These mechas also contain their own GFG, allowing them to operate as small, heavily armed gravships for a short period of time, and for ease of deployment from orbit to planetside. The mechas are armoured with armour comparable to that on board a small capital ship, such as a frigate. These mecha are single-handedly capable of conquering a small nation. These are usually deployed by the Ineffable Empire in pairs of two (One Tweedle-Dum, One Tweedle-Dee.) These have no room to spare for a human pilot, instead they are piloted by an advanced AI, identical and occasionaly the same one (when deployed as part of an assault a part of an assaulting starship's AI will be that controlling the mechs) as those on board a starship.

4. tanks and other ground assault craft
Ung-Tae class dropship
Combination hovertank and skiff, comfortably transports 40 Lancers. Forward-facing heavy boser cannon, deployable 150mm mass-driver cannon

Papyrus-class uber-heavy tank
Heavily armoured, same as Redball's (yes, that's my puppet so we can use the same tech, since it stole it from me) except for weapons
Top
One mounted dual-ammo-feed Scorpion class missile launcher
Two 155mm gauss cannons
Two twin gattling-gauss cannons
Two heavy boser cannons

Bottom
Two 170mm gauss cannons
One mounted dual-ammo-feed Scorpion class missile launcher

5. non-space fighter
F-42-A Wasp Class Fighter
Builder: WMD Arms Manufacturing
Length: 15.74m
Height: 4.89m
Combat Ceiling: 14,234m
Max Level Speed: In excess of Mach 4.7
Max Speed, intermediate power: In excess of mach 3.8
Armament:
One 22mm 8-barrel rotary cannon
Mountings for 8 Hydra class Air-to-Air missiles and 4 Impact class Air-to-Surface missiles

6. space fighter
Light Patrol Craft (LPC)
Non-Slipstream capable planetary defense craft that supplement and augment Home Guard defensive capabilities. LPCs are usually equipped with a single missile tube, several DM-5 defensive kinetic kill missiles and a crew of 10 or fewer. Several sub-classes of LPC are in use throughout the Ineffable Empire, depending on the particulars of the operational environment. LPCs are very fast, highly maneuverable and operate most often in squadrons of eight.

Heavy Patrol Craft (HPC)
Similar to the light craft, but equipped with 2 missile tubes, an AP cannon and an rapid-fire gauss turret. HPCs carry a crew complement between 20 and 30 people and usually serve as the command ship for a squadron of LPCs. Like the LPC, several sub-classes of the HPC are in use throughout the Ineffable Empire.

RA-26 Shrike strike fighters
The Shrike is a fearsome high-speed attack craft used to support medium to long range anti-starship strike operations. Although not as maneuverable as a tactical fighter, the true advantage of the Shrike is its ability to put steel on target while avoiding retribution from hostile assets. It also provides the Group Operational Commander with the flexibility to hit the enemy from a number of angles at a tempo of his/her own choosing. The Shrike is equipped with 2 rapid-fire gauss cannons, an AP cannon and 4 missile tubes which can fire Star Arrow smart missiles. Like the Centaur, it can be controlled either from the cockpit or remotely, though the Shrike requires both a pilot and a weapons officer in either mode

Centaur tactical fighters (CTF) (http://www.nationstates.net/images/flags/uploads/leda_colony.jpg)
The Centaur is the premiere space superiority fighter in the Local Cluster. Designed to conduct high speed, fire-and-forget combat maneuvers, it is unmatched in its ability to engage multiple targets at short and medium distances. The primary mission of the Centaur is to provide combat patrol support for Heavy Cruisers. It also flies tactical escort for strike fighters and conducts Suppression of Enemy Defense (SED) operations during interplanetary combat. These fighters are equipped with dual rapid-fire CTFcan be piloted either from the cockpit or remotely from a Flight Operations Center.

Phoenix atmospheric attack craft (PAAC)
The Phoenix is a combined fighter/attack craft designed to operate in Earth-normal atmospheres and high-orbit. Extremely maneuverable, the Phoenix is the primary Close Air Support and long-range interdiction asset for the Lancer Corps during planetary combat operations. It is also used to clear hostile skies of tactical fighters, to clear the way for incoming Lancer drop ships and establish air dominance in advance of the main planetfall assault element. The Phoenix is equipped with dual Point Defence Laser cannons and three missile tubes capable of firing up to 6 SAPM-6III Strike Arrow missiles.

OOC: Marines are gonna win this one. Orks only win with a significant size advantage.

IC:
The Killer Kan caught most of the enemy fire, for the first few seconds at least. Within 10 it was a shredded pile of burning metal, filling the arena with smoke. The new Orks dived for cover, some sheltering behind the wreckage of the Kan, while others used the limited cover provided by the pillars.
Two of the Nobz were killed outright as the krak missile landed between them, the warboss and surviving Nobz ducking behind the Kan wreckage. Four slugga boyz and three shoota boyz were also dead, the rest scattered around the arena using what cover they could find. The two flamma boyz let loose with streams of napalm, aiming for the light marines. However a bullet caught one of the flamma’s tanks, igniting the Ork and another shoota boy into flaming torches. However the Orks knew there was no way out of the arena other than killing ‘oomans, and fought on with increasing aggressiveness.

"WAAAAAGHH!!"

6 seconds after the start of the battle, the remaining contestants enter the ring. 14 slugga boyz, 6 shoota boyz, 2 flama boyz, and 4 nobz materialize amidst the space marines. 2 Ork Dreadnaughts materialize 10 feet in the air, immediately falling to crush 3 marines and one ork.

Meanwhile, 5 tactical and 5 light space marines and 3 terminators materialize 10 feet in the air, above the space the ork formations formerly occupied.

Before the match, the orks were pumped into a bloodrage by scenes of the battle, while the humans were kept ignorant and administered "light" electric shocks.

*Round 3: Arms Race*

Scene: An industrial wasteland. Towering skyscrapers disappear into an opaque layer of smog, hovering several hundred meters above. A twisted network of highways is suspended high above the bleak landscape. Threaded through these, a single causeway, strewn with debris. At first it is wide and smoothly sloping. It gradually narrows to a thin, tortuous strip, distorted beyond all navigation.

"Gladiators! Behold the course! These thirty kilometers of steel and asphault are death. Beyond them is life. The first racer to complete this course wins salvation for himself, and for his compatriots. You are encouraged to use your weaponry to the fullest when the race has begun..."

At a crude chalk starting line, the challengers appear:
3 Ork Warbikes (greenskinz)
3 Marine Scout Bikes (Gronde)
2 J.E.D.I. Mecha (Ineffable)
2 Flash class PRVs (Hakurabi)
Additionally, an elite soldier and two regulars from Shalrirorchia, Redball, Thaeo, and Kendari are fitted with default vehicles (star wars speeder bikes).
They are at even three meter intervals along the track

One of the Orks screams with fury and tries to turn his bikes weapons toward a nearby pirate. Finding his bike temporarily disabled, he levels a sidearm, and is promptly incinerated in a brilliant pillar of light.

"You are encouraged to use your weaponry to the fullest WHEN THE RACE HAS BEGUN."

A replacement Warbiker appears next to the wreckage as an enthusiastic gretchen dances to the side of the road.

"Five, four, three, two, ONE"

The gretchen waves his flag, and the race is off.

(OOC: I probably wouldn't mind. Half of them are probably doomed, anyway.)

The quads accelerate with a screech, their pilots communicating in the first milliseconds, as their weapons are armed.

"Only the first will go home... it is imperative that it is one of us."

"Bring the Rescue Chips online."

"Affirmative. Keep together. I'll take the left, you take the right."

"Hit the speeders first, I think we can outrun the J.E.D.I. Mechas."

"Targets Locked. Suppressing hostiles."

The Two Quads were near each other, only about two metres apart. Their primary turrets were turned left and right respectively, and were firing on the speeders, whilst their vulcans hailed fire on the nearer speeders.

They both knew in their hearts that even should they succeed, only one of them would make it out in one piece, even with the rescue chips.

Dying did things to people. Every rookie had heard the stories of pilots who escaped in the nick of time, only to be reduced to babbling social enigmas, constantly speaking of 'the horrors'.

The truth was, these stories were mostly overexaggerated, as most are. However, 'ejecting' too late has been known to cause shellshock. It is therefore protocol to allow 'ejected' pilots 3-4 months cooldown, or risk nervous breakdown.

The shadow pirate (OOC; I realise having an invisible guy on a visible bike kinda defeats the purpose, but I have a plan...) and one of the troopers look at the bikes controls, working out basic functions; "Go", "Shoot", and "Go Fast".
The other pirate trooper, scowling at the now-dead ork, didn't familiarise himself with the controls. As the race begins, his bike jerks violently, and starts flying wildly sideways across the track and into other racers.

The pirates has more luck, he starts off well. He too begins moving sideways. However, his bike is under control, and dodging fire from the PRVs he fires a short burst from his galvanic accelerator cannon at the nearby ork as he closes into range for his photonic power scythe.

The shadow pirate didn't start his bike. He remained where he was, invisible. He hoped the other racers would merely be puzzled by the lack of a pilot on the bike, but give it little thought. About twenty seconds after the race started, he started the bike. He drifted wildly from side to side, to make it look as if the bike was out of control. He hoped no-one happened to be looking at his bike in infra-red. Increasng the speed, he cut the distance to the nearest Hakurabi PRV. He refrained from firing the speeders blasters...

The two mechs started running, but with a rather slow top speed they began to fall behind immediately. One stopped altogether, and deployed the missle launchers. The pilot grinned. While only twelve missiles were carried, it was enough. He fired one at teach of the ork and space marine bikes, and two at the heavier Hakurabi vehicles. That done, he began running again and opened fire on the speeders with his minigun.
The other mech, after a quick chat with his comrade, decided to risk flying. He wasn't sure how the strange entities controlling the event would react, but he decided to try it anyway. Reaching the top running speed, the mech jumped and the anti-matter thrusters in the feet ignited. The small, yet sufficient, wings on the back of the machine were deployed, and the flying mech began to gain distance on the other racers. The plasma sword was activated.

The Proving Grounds, Generation 422, Round 4: "Silent Death"

Environment: A teeming, tropical swamp; a vision of voluptuous life within dolorous decay. An oppressive canopy of leaves greedily blots out the sun, and the thin mist deadens the remaining light. Where the ground isn't overgrown with plant-cover, there is murky water, covered with flowering leaf-pods, and dotted with rocky craigs and mounds of mud that creeping plants have inevitably colonized. Roots, branches and vines spread in all directions, giving the impression that one is trapped in a vast spiderweb.

Dangers: There are treacherous sinkholes in the water. Small to medium sized animals, swimming, crawling, and flying, are quite eager to gnaw on any exposed appendage. Fortunately, they're smart enough not to scream.

Opportunities: The vines and branches may be used to aid movement, and may provide concealment with the right imagination. The water is deep enough in some places to hide a biped.

"Somewhere in this living, dying wilderness, your enemy stalks you. Where two of you enter, only one will leave. This will push your skills of survival, evasion, and marksmanship to the absolute limit."

Forces:An MX War Robot, special-designed for assassination, armed with stealth sniper weapons, A Shalrirorchian elite guerilla with stealth armor and sniper particle rifle, and an Ineffable Lancer, with dual lances (or other weapons, if appropriate), are each teleported to different areas of the arena.

ooc> Kindura: It may take a while before you catch on to how I think, but until then. . . :)

ic> The new marines ended up landing about a yard or 2 behind the Nobz and Boss. The Terminators and marine's armour absorbed the shock of the landing as they landed firmly on their feet. The light marines, lacking the servo-engines in their armour, landed harder, but still recovered fast due to their enhanced abilities. Any uncertainty in the newcommers was gone as soon as they hit the floor. They knew what their enemy was, and they knew the appropriate protocol. The Tac. marines and terminators opened fire into the boss and Nobz. The armour peircing rounds of and assault cannon wizzed through the air at their target. The light marines fanned out and began hunting down the scattered orks.

On the other side of the arena, things were a bit trickier. The Ork dreads landing right in the middle of the marine's scattered formation actually helped the marines. The breif confusion (AKA: 1 second) allowed the light marines to make a fighting withdrawel back to the arena wall, while firing into various targets. (ooc: Green: . . .leaving you to RP any pursuit of them) The assult marines, who had been hanging back, surged into the fight with their jump packs. The Tac Marines lost another one of their's to a choppa as they fought their way into formation. The 2 flamer marines were sweeping the orks with advanced phosphorous flame. Some of it hit the terminators, but did little more than burn the paint on their armour. In the mean time, the Champion delivered 2 powerfull blows to a dreadnought with his thunder hammer. The assult marines were wizzing around the second dread, throwing grenades, and trying to stick it with a melta-bomb. In the center of the chaos, the 4 Terminators squared off with the Nobz, using a fighting style which combine their power fists with their powerfull guns. The assult terminator also went after a Nob, his lightening claws crackling in the air.

As the race started, the Theao racers unlimbered their guns and began firing at each racer prior to starting, blasting racers, bikers and terrain. (OOC: Half is a LOT for a near-inifinite supply of fighters. I don't think the thread will even last that long.)

There was an audible 'shunk' as another round was chambered into the cannon, and the right PRV's turret began rotating round to the back.

"Incoming Pilotless Bike, on collision course."

"The guy must have fallen off. Take out the bike, it could cause some damage if it hit."

A flash signalled the round had been fired.

Both pilots saw the missiles coming, and attempted to swerve out of the way at the last moment. Their armour could take the shrapnel, but a direct hit would be fatal.

As luck would have it, they managed to dodge the missiles, though their broadsides were peppered with shrapnel.

Seeing the flying mecha, the left PRV aimed his turret (using ITTS to lead the mech) into the air, and fired.

The debris of fallen racers (seeing as how its the 422nd incarnation of this arena, there's bound to be piles of wreckage) was coming up, along with the numerous potholes. There was no clear winner, most of the racers running neck-to-neck, desperately trying to eliminate their competition.

The vulcans were hard at work, firing at every possible opportunity on the lighter bikes.

Careful, because if anything hits the broadside, or there is a significant hit, your guy will either fall off or be killed. Note that the main gun may hit him if it swivels at the wrong time. Especially if the other one swings the turret past.)

The landing of the Shadow Pirate coincided with the end of the shrapnel spray, sufficiently masking his 'clunk' to appear to be no more than a chunk of shrapnel.

The relative weight of the Pirate to the PRV was, however, sufficient to cause a noticeable decline in speed.

"Your vehicle appears to be slowing down. No detectable objects, however."

"Engines report optimal performance. Armour reports small amounts of constant and concentrated damage."

The two minds reached the same conclusion simultaneously.

"Hitchhiker."

The main gun on the right vehicle began swivelling madly, aimed downwards, in an effort to sweep the Pirate off.

The left vehicle slowed down ever so slightly in order to retain the defensive advantage, and began to fire at one of the marine cycles, percieving them to be more powerful. ooc: the guy with the anti-armour rounds what at a near standstill(post 54) and bead rifles even with anti-armour rounds have a firing limit with the practical limit being that of the targeting system, basically if the target system can see it the gun can range it

(OOC: If he was at a near standstill, he would have been left behind far too fast. The debris would soon build up too much for the targeting systems. Sorry, I'm going to have to ignore that second shot. If PRVs can compete with Star Wars Jetbikes, then it'd be impossible to get more than one shot in before they go out of range. Same with all the other vehicles.)

The Lancer took a second to gain his bearings. Deciding there could be venom-spitting beasts, he puts on his protective eyewear.
He checks his bracer for animal lifesigns. There are many. Evidently he's going to have to work harder to find his quarry. He formulates a possible plan, but without knowing who or what he's fighting he sidelines it for now. A shock troop, standard Lancers aren't usually deployed for low-key warfare, but the force lance is a multi-purpose weapon and the Lancer corps take their name from the weapon they are masters of.
Deploying his bracer into shield mode, and extending the force lance held in his other hand, the Lancer resembled an ancient gladiator.

ooc> Still waiting on Greenskinz.

ic> The three bikers sped forward in their standard formation. They had fought side by side in over 200 campains, this would be a major advantage. As they hung to the back of the pack, they began to unload automatic bolter fire from their hull mounted bolters at the bikes in front of them. The Sg. fired off a seeker missile at one of the Hakurabi bikes near the front. They would work their way to the front, destroying the competition in their way.

OOC: Fine turtle, make it a shadow pirate instead. You're the same guy anyhow. Also the speeders are more like a cross between star wars speeder bikes and Covenent Ghosts; use your imagination.

IC: 5 Kilometer mark. 168 seconds. The drivers are widely spread along the first quarter of the road, with the largest flock of speeders trailing 4-15 seconds behind the two leading Thaeo racers, who are brutally exposed to plasma-fire. The racers must simultaneously avoid plasma bolts from behind, grenades from ahead, and large piles of debris strewn across the road.

An ork cycle has foolishly driven off the road to his doom far below. His remaining companion sweeps back and forth on the first 200 meters of track, ripping downed pilots to shreads and firing at debris with the seeming intent of causing additional explosions, completely ignoring the race.

A daring felinoid biker tosses a grenade neatly into the lap of the second-place Thaeo, showering blood and scrap metal in all directions. The main engine block careens toward the main group, where it slams directly into a Kendari speeder, which itself overturns and flies back to be narrowly avoided by a Gronde scout bike. Unfortunately for the marine, he has swerved into a thick pile of twisted metal, blowing both his tires and crushing his right leg as his bike slides flat along the road.

A flying JEDI mech desperately tries to keep up with the speeders while dodging missile blasts. The remaining JEDI, along with dismounted pilots, continue to snipe into the main pack, and at whatever vehicles trail behind.

Casualties:
Greenskinz - 2 bikes (1 by disqualification), 3 pilots (1 by disqualification)
Gronde - 1 bike (immobile), 1 pilot (immobile)
Ineffable - flying mech heavily damaged
Hakurabi - Quads moderately damaged by plasma and missile fire
Shalrirorchia - 1 h-bike (by prv), 1 pilot (by crazy ork)
Redball - 1 h-bike
Thaeo - 2 h-bikes, 2 pilots (1 by crazy ork)
Kendari - 1 h-bike, 1 pilot (badly injured)

Forces:
Greenskinz - 1 bike near the start of the track, 1 unused bike at starting line (next to dead orc)
Gronde - 2 bikes at rear of main group, 1 damaged but with usable weapons falling behind
Ineffable - 1 badly damaged flying mech above main group, 1 mech at 3k and falling behind
Hakurabi - 2 moderately damaged quads near middle of main group
Shalrirorchia - 2 h-bikes with main group
Redball - 2 h-bikes near 4k, 1 shadow-pirate near start (cloaking damaged by explosion)
Thaeo - 1 h-bike leading main group
Kendari - 2 h-bikes with main group, 1 badly injured pilot falling behind main group.

OOC: Is this suitably orkish, greenskinz?

Round 3

Faced with unfamiliar equipment, and with little time to study the controls, the three Kendaryns had their hands full just keeping the bikes under control. At the beginning of the course, they made no effort to use weapons. One of the regulars was shot down almost immediately; the Royal Guard and the other soldier were lucky enough to remain alive, and near the front, for a while.

Still, it was clear that neither had any chance of overtaking the front runners. As soon as she came to a short section of straightaway, the Guard unslung her Tor Ganot heavy blast rifle and opened fire on the Theao biker in the lead.

Four shots, and her vehicle careened off the course. She was dead... but her target would almost certainly die with her, and with luck, his companion would crash into the wreckage of his bike.

The remaining Kendaryn zoomed by without glancing at the smoking wreckage of her bike; there would be time enough to honor her memory properly, if he survived.

OOC: Even one or two hits from a Tor Ganot heavy rifle would destroy a little craft like a speeder bike, but I suppose it's marginally possible that all four missed.
Post for Round 4 coming up...
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see that last post. You seem to have posted while I was typing this one. Is this OK, or shall I change it to fit what you said?

"...Begin"
OOC: That'd be an MX-39, by the way. I've been meaning to write up a post about the most common models; I would have done so earlier, but I couldn't log on over the weekend.

IC: Zerig Tomarok scanned the area, analyzing the scene for potential hazards or benefits; nothing was especially noteworthy, beyond the basics of the area. Zerig was an unusual MX, designed and built by Nertar workers; such robots were more common among the MX-39 snipers than in any other variety.

He set his primary shield generator to "stealth" (basically active camo, in all but the most extreme wavelengths. It's not 100% effective, of course, but it's a lot better than nothing.), then shifted his four limbs into VEPs (variable energy projectors; they include attraction and repulsion beams) and scaled the nearest large tree.

He found a branch about halfway up that was large enough to stand on, and concealed himself with his back against the trunk. Steel legs held him balancced easily; he shifted one forearm into a Yamiri sniper's gun and the other into a Narvok blast rifle. Then he waited, silent and motionless, with every sense alert for any sign of his enemy.

Now, the most common types of MX...

The basic arsenal of all modern Kendaryn military-class robots includes 4 Narvok blast rifles, 2 rapid-fire Pulsar IIIs, 2 Narvok heavy blasters, 2 Tor Ganot medium blasters, 2 Yamiri elite blasters, 2 fully-auto gunpowder projectile rifles (machine guns, considered a rather archaic weapon), 4 close combat blades, 2 Tolmadren energy swords, and a set of knives. They are also equiped with 4 VEPs, a Kaos Korp kinetic nullifier, a Kaos Korp technology disrupter, and a tool set, all of which can have uses in battle.

The MX-37 (specialty: delivering flaming doom to a large number of targets in a short period of time) is also armed with 2 Tor Ganot light blast rifles, 2 Yamiri soldier's guns, 2 programmable grenade launchers, 2 high velocity dart guns, and a Kaos Korp acceleration condenser.

The MX-39 (specialty: eliminating targets without being noticed (except, briefly, by the target)) is armed with 2 silenced Yamiri sniper's guns, a programmable grenade launcher, an explosives planter, and a silenced Yamiri mini-blaster.

The MX-40 (specialty: blowing stuff up) carries 2 Tor Ganot heavy blasters, a Narvok ray cannon, 2 programmable grenade launchers, 2 straight-fire rocket launchers, 1 guided rocket launcher, 1 single-use grenade launcher, 1 explosives planter, and 2 Yamiri Obliterators.

The MX-38 (specialty: hurting people and breaking things (+5 points if you recognize the line)), by far the most expensive, has all of this, though only one of some weapons that the specialists carry a pair of.

ROUND FOUR-
IN AN ALIEN JUNGLE

The Shalrirorchian commando, known commonly in the ranks as Shade, crept through the forest like an invisible stalker. His real name was unknown...he preferred it that way. So Shade he was.

He had been teleported quite against his will into this jungle hell, and the feline warrior was highly displeased with his current situation. Although one could not see him for virtue of his stealth armor (which projected a personal cloaking field over the contours of his body), the Shalrirorchian male resembled, if anything, a terrestrial Earth lion on two legs. His armor was photoreceptive...he could take on the color scheme of his environment in an instant like a chameleon. The armor he was wearing had taken almost thirty years to develop to its' current state...not only did it have to provide respectable protection from energy, melee, and projectile weapons, it ALSO had to be relatively quiet to move in (in order to preserve the advantage of stealth).

Shade began by opening his vents to the humid air of the swamp and breathing in deeply. He turned his audio receptors up to maximum, closed his eyes, and simply embraced the jungle. He grew accustomed to the sounds and scents around him, and gradually came to understand what belonged....and more importantly what didn't. It wasn't enough for a soldier to be well-armed and well-trained. He had to have a sense about his environment above what simple eyesight or tactical data could provide. Humans called it "intuition". Among the Shalrirorchians, it was known as "krel'sha"...or the hunter's sense.

Shade checked his particle rifle next. It was equipped with a sniper's scope that could overlay thermal, motion, and electromagnetic vision into one conclusive targeting picture. Thermal could pick up anything that generated heat, which was to say almost anything without specific anti-thermal gear. Motion could pick up anything that was moving. And electromagnetic could pick up machines or certain cloaking fields. The overlay capacity allowed him to see like no mortal had ever seen before. The rifle itself was composed of high-strength polymers and composite materials and operated by virtue of a particle accelerator. It was a truly lethal weapon in the service of the Shalrirorchian Republic. It had a variety of operational modes....right now it was set on pulse fire mode. Shade left that as it was.

The Shalrirorchian set off quietly, keeping his senses in perfect readiness as he sought his quarry.

The seeker missiles impacted on the front wheel, and the right PRV skidded out of control, spinning to the right (More force pushing on the left than the right now), weapons frantically trying to take out the Marine who fired the missile.

"EEEARGH!!!"

"...I've got it!"

"H-E-L-P M-E!"

"Engage Self Destruct Sequence! Now!"

"Okay, but why?"

"Try and smash into one of the other vehicles."

The ailing PRV's fusion reactor began to overload, giving maybe thirty seconds before the explosion. The vehicle began swerving towards the other vehicles, as the pilot prepared to 'eject'.

"Eject!"

Almost intantaneously, the mind of the right PRV was transferred into the rescue chip of the first, albeit without all the vehicle-specific programming.

"I have a plan..."

(It will be revealed nearer to the end.)

Meanwhile, the discarded vehicle exploded in a miniature thermonuclear display.

The cannon on the surviving PRV took careful aim, and fired into the front, intending to eliminate the Theaolite biker.

(OOC: The cannons use rail guns to fire APFSDS rounds, and I would guess at a velocity of 3kps - 3.5kps initial)

OOC: State the intensity and radius of the explosion. A kill-radius above 6 meters, or a damage radius above 20 meters will activate automatic energy suppression devices. The track at this point is 40 meters in width. Not counting yourselves, the main group covers 700 meters of track, and includes 7 bikes and one flyer that must remain close to the ground. It is unlikely you can take out more than one vehicle, unless they are close together.

Your people, upon arriving in our facilities, were equipped with alternate weaponry of your (OOC) choice. This is of course preferable to either allowing a third iteration of 40k merchandise, or assuming that your people use a totally different tech system from thestart, which would adversely affect your RPing outside of the game.

On the other hand, you do seem to be a scavenger race, so this might be OK after all. It's your choice.

Relizing that if the number of opponents remained constant he would eventually be killed, the Rider reached into his pockets and gathered his caltrops which he scattered behind him.
The Kendaryn biker fired a burst of kinetic charges from his Narvok rifle, knocking most of the caltrops off of the course. He followed with a series of stun-bolts aimed at the Theao rider; under these conditions, a hit with the stunner would mean death, and that was the setting that could fire fastest.

(OOC: Yikes! I realised a MAJOR inconsistency in two of my posts. Instead of fixing them, I'll just clarify here. The PRV fires HEAPFSDU round from the cannon. Discard Sabot on a Rail Gun is just redundant. Come to think of it, the Caltrops would only work against my PRV, which essentially makes it redundant, seeing as how the PRV has a turret and does not need to chase directly behind the Theaolite.)

The Pilot was mad now. Every shot that was fired at the idiot driver (who just happened to be going in a straight line) failed to make contact.

The Pilot riding shotgun (we'll call him the gunner for now) commandeered the vulcan gun, and continued to fire at the other, less prominent drivers, whilst the main cannon (Still controlled by the pilot) took careful aim. He switched off the ranging laser (also, in the act, eliminating the telltale flash), and applied the ITTS system. With only an estimate, it would be slightly off, but with the size of the bike, it was unlikely he would miss.

This time, only a faint humm was to be heard as the HEAPFSDU round spiralled from the barrel. In his mind, the pilot recited to himself the words he had read so long ago. A relic from archaic times, it seemed fitting.

Arrow! Black Arrow!
I have saved you to the last.
You have never failed me, and I have always recovered you.
I had you from my father and he from old.
If ever you came from the forges of the true King under the Mountain,
Go now and speed well.

It's not a very big one, and moving fast and low enough to thwart visual recognition. Yeesh. I'm also fairly sure that with that much fire it would be unlikely he'd see or sense all of it and dodge. Can I call for Kindura's judgment?)

Admiral Daniel Grahi orbits this strange world with his fleet. He is very disturbed about how this happened. He decides finally that Unther will remain away from the fighting for as long as possible in order to concerve their forces. They had to bide their time and let everyone else's forces tire each other out before attacking.
Behind him, a woman walks in. "Daniel, we need to talk." Daniel turned to see his wife, Captain Jane Grahi looking at him. "It's about the men, Daniel. People are freaked out about this. There wasn't supposed to be any fighting. Escorting the presidents cousin's flagship was supposed to be easy detail because of us having no real war to fight. Then on top of it, it's starting to leak about how we where brought to this place. The men are scared Daniel. I am too..."
Daniel nodded. His wife was strong, and he could tell she was indeed frieghtened if she mentioned it. He was worried to. For her. She was captain of her own ship, and it would be far to easy for her to become a loss. He steeled himself though. She was a hell of a captain and he trusted she would be able to survive. "Well honey, I can't do anything. They heard what was said. We've been forced into this conflict and our only chance at survival is to eliminate all foes. but you know what, maybe it's time we sent out some training runs. They are having a race down there. I wonder if it would be ok for us to... liven it up? Send in 5 fighters. Make them the least experienced. I don't want to lose veteran soldiers if these aliens decide that our training runs are cheating..."
Jane smiled at this. She loved how her husband thought just like her. She felt like testing the limits a bit to. She wanted to know where they would be forced to stop. Hopefully, they would be able to go ahead with this. Hopefully the fighters would return safely. She saluted, turned and ran off to fulfil his order, hungry for a fight...

(OOC: But even if the Caltrops bounced, the shell was going a LOT faster than the caltrops, and would have impacted first. It's around, as I said, 3.2kps INITIALLY, meaning that it does not take into account the 1-2 thousand kilometres per hour this race is taking place at. Translation: It would have easily beaten the caltrops to the rider. I'll let it slide, one more time.)

ARGH! This guy must have been charmed or something. But there were remedies for that.

The vulcan gun used the ITTS to fire at and lead the biker, forcing him into a significantly more weavy pattern, allowing the quad to begin gaining on him.

Then, the primary cannon engaged it's ITTS. Using only the speed, and showing the approximate location along the road that the driver would be, it fired.

The HEAPFSDU round impacted a towering piece of wreckage much further along the track, blowing a significant chunk out of it and causing it to collapse in front of the Theao biker. Two more rounds soon followed it, creating a veritable palisade in the road.

The cannon was on fully automatic fire now, and a hail of exploding rounds soaring high into the air, and impacting randomly in front of the Theao bike.

Explosions cratered the track, and created a cloud of smoke and shrapnel in the area behind the 'palisade', obscuring it until it would be too late.

(OOC: This is firing as fast as possible without any regard for accuracy or potential damage. The Cannon can load pretty fast, though the railgun normally takes a moment to recharge its capacitors. In going full auto, the capacitors are tripped early, leading to the cannon firing at around 500mps, though at maybe 5 rounds per second)

5 bright dots of light could be seen in the distance of the race as Unther's fighters descended from space. kept going until they where a short 100 meters from the ground before a swift pull up sending them straight towards the race in perfect accord.
The fighters slowly climed, once again in perfect unity, so that by the time they reached the race, they where 1000 feet above the ground. The then changed and began to descend as their pulse cannons strafed the field. They circled the track once, being sure to cover the track in fire, and then turned to return to the ship. Daniel watched the battle from a magnifying lense on his ship, crossing his fingers in a hope that the men would not lose their lives...

((ok, if this breaking of the rules will prove fatal, please post as such. Otherwise, I am wondering whether anyone got eliminated by that little bit of danger. Thats alot of firepower, so its likely that most racers got hit at the very least...))

The result is extremely devistating in a battle, not so devistating in a race. That is unless you take into effect that one of these soldiers can do heaps of damage to the road to keep opponents from going forward, then annihalate the opponents and begin walking to the end of the track. Yup... MIA units in Unther are not something you want to mess with unless you have some heavy firepower and alot of skills.))

Daniel smiled at the success of his fighters. They where doing well. He looked at the radar, chacking if it picked up any enemy forces. Maybe he could do some supply raids to help train the men.
((OK! Kendura, if it's possible, Daniel will want to let a squadron of fighters escort a transporter to an enemy ship to comandeer it or something like that. The Theao biker swerved around the falling tower, when the artillery blasted a hole almost right in front of him. He gunned the engine as he drove directly into the crater, where he used the crater upwall as a ramp while another round landed behind him clipping a power cord, causing the bike's speed to drop by about 10%. As the fighter rounds blasted into the fallen tower, the rider gave a silent thank you to whoever knocked the tower down. He grabbed his AA(anti-armour) grenade, set it to proximity detonation(3 meters) and threw it over the tower while he continued to race on.

You three are in the game, however you will have to wait for the next round. That actually shouldn't be very long.

(OOC: You're not reading the text - He said that the combatants were like gladiators, and were locked up until they were sent out. It's impossible to just 'waltz in' and use coordinated assaults. That's the problem.)

This is correct. The basic soldiers are being kept in communal holding pens custom-built for their society, while those commanding combat vehicles are given more sophisticated servicing and repair facilities. Your ships are held in isolated pockets within warpspace, which can contain anything from a single vessel to the entire fleet. Also, it's not proper to say that the arenas are upon the surface of a planet. Some are normal compartments within our main mega-structure, while others are hyperspace constructs that have no reality beyond the scope of the game.

In any case, Unther, no fighter strikes.

Notes to Hakurabi and Thaeo:
1. The race is proceeding at about 120 kph, not thousands.
2. Ramping oneself out of a crater at even this snail's pace on an increasingly curvaceous track must be extremely dangerous.
3. Please stop arguing. Hakurabi has incredible weapons, Thaeo has incredible piloting skills. Have some pie and shake hands.

ooc> Greenskinz still hasn't posted anything. Can we set a deadline here?

(OOC: Actually, the weapons are pretty average considering what COULD be glued onto these things... It's just heavy for a light vehicle. I'm just annoyed he manages to thwart just about any strategy I use. Anyway, the the idea of that paticular attack was to cause the tower to collapse before the driver could get to it. Ah well. Actually, what happened to all the shrapnel that hit the driver? I mean, shrapnel at close range [that crater stuff has to somewhere] is bound to do something.)

The PRV stopped firing when the bike began to slow down.

Instead, the plan came into play. (assuming that the race has progressed to around 10-15km in, and if not, occuring around then...)

Nanobots (usually for internal maintainence and minor repairs) within the surviving PRV began to move.

The rescue chip (In its own blastproof container and power supply) was detatched from the main circuitry, as some nanobots began to move it, whilst others linked with the cannister, giving it a point and fins.

The pilot began calculating trajectory, determining the furthest the vehicle could be from the goal to hit it, without exceeding 4.5m, to be safe.

The PRV came to a halt.

More nanobots welded material from another round onto the chambered round to make it equal the weight and shape of the cannister.

The cannon fired.

An explosion far off showed that it was within range, and calculations showed that the other requirements were fulfilled.

Now, all that was left was to do it.

The gunner was loaded into the cannon. (!)

"Best of luck, comrade. May you find your target swiftly."

The cannon fired.

A little carbon-nanotube cannister with fins streaked over the course.

Daniel Grahi stood in his bridge, looking out into the strange rift. By all thoughts, he felt that he should be able to break out of this strange place. After all, it had to be made of mortal hands, and all mortal works where flawed, no matter how advanced. His eyes wandered over the void they where keeping him in. He decided that it was time to see what he could do. He first sent out 32 fighters in 32 different directions to judge the width of this giant holding cell. They came back shortly, all accounted for. Daniel didn't know what he would do. He did know one thing though. It was time for a field promotion. Temporarily at least. He buzzed his wifes com unit. "Jane, could you come up here. I need to tell you something."
about 5 minutes later, Jane walked in. Daniel smiled, sitting behind his desk. This was a signal to Jane that this visit was for official reasons. "Captain, You've just been promoted to Lt. Admiral of this fleet. My ex field admiral will be captain of your ship from now on. I know this is sudden, but I need you here."
Jane blinked. "With all do respect admiral, I don't believe that is the wisest course of action. I honestly believe that you are doing this for personal reasons."
Daniel nodded. "Thats right. I am doing it for personal reasons. I rely on your advice more then anyone else in this fleet. If I was to lose you because your ship went down, I would be devistated. I wouldn't be able to command the same. This is the wisest choice because as long as I'm worried about you, I can't make the best choices. Now, you will begin this duty first thing in the morning...
"Of course, there are perks. The Lt. Admiral has to sleep on the same ship as the Admiral." A glimmer of arrousal shone in his eyes, and Jane suddenly felt the same thing. It had been a while. He was right. Being on the same ship definitely had it's perks. They didn't wait to get to their room. After all, who was going to see him on his desk?

OOC: Sorry, I've been busy with x-box live :), but I'm here...or still here...well...maybe not....I think I am.....

I’m assuming the stuff has already been teleported away so….

IC: The vast skaven fleet was in disary, and with close to 200 warships locked together, things can get crazy.

Vast clouds of fighters, drop pods, and small shuttles, went back and forth the ships, each trying to install order, while others took advantage and “removed” successful superiors…

Iskitt donned the spiked helmet of fleet admiral from the still warm corpse of the previous admiral. This rebellion was already in motion, but this…. anomaly, simply furthered it to fruition.

Realizing the fragile situation of this incident, he immediately took charge, and began putting out the fires of opposition.

“Gunnery officer, target these three vessels, then have communications send a message that I am now in charge” the flickering holograms displayed the targeted ships in read, as the firepower of the command Hades vessel and its sisters were brought down on the unfortunate…shortly after, the surviving rattisars installed discipline in the ranks.

On board Warpvessel:
The crew on the deck, despite just performing a relatively bloody coup, were quite calm. A black furred skaven dressed in a black cloak with a red army suit, the uniform of a rattisar, walked in. His spotless medals reflected the fairly messy cabin. Rust, dirt and dust, blood, even shell casings from various weapons littered this area.

Admiral Iskitt made a smile when he seen the rattisar, “Ah, Rattisar Yarskritch, how were things in slave hold?”

“Messy and brutal, they tried running away, casualties are somewhere in the hundreds, including armed personal, we got off with surprisingly few sir.”

“That’s good, but I want everyone on a full alert, all spaven marines are to be moved to the hades class ships, and have the vehicles and aircraft ready to go.”

“Yes sir, permission to speak freely?”

“Yes?”

“Do you have any idea what happened? Where we are? We left the warp, that’s for sure, but where did we exit to?”

“I don’t know, all maps can’t find a warren near here, but, I have a feeling that we didn’t just come here by accident”……

After the chaotic process the ships found themselves in some sort of un-space.

The new Omnipresence thought for a moment, and then organized its priorities
REESTABLISH CONTACT WITH TRUE OMNIPRESENCE... CONTINUE MISSION: Scout, Integrate

The ships then activated their Negative Energy Drives in an attempt to escape the un-space but to no avail, they were well and truly trapped there.

But it's not as if I'm vital at the mo' anyway, the Lancer is a sitting duck in the forest, and the pirates have little chance of winning.

As for the mechs (since I am the same person, and I'm short of time and logging into the other account is a waste of time), assume the flying one sprays the nearest racers with some plasma, and the running one starts flying accelerating to its top speed (for the dual ground/air variant that happens to be about mach 1.3...) Ooc> It is past the deadline for Greenskinz I believe. I will conclude this round.

Ic> Commander-Champion Lysan swung his hammer wide at the Dreadnought. The force of the blow smashed right through its armor and sent the mechanical abomination sprawling backwards. Several Orks jumped Lysan, weighing him down. Despite his efforts, he could not throw them all off and was slowly brought down to his knees.

The assault marines continued to sweep around the second dreadnought. One was sawed in half and another hit with large drill type weapon. However, the others were able to place several melta-bombs on the behemoth. As the bombs detonated, the dreadnought was reduced to a pile of sludge.

Elsewhere in the melee, a fierce struggle for survival was taking place. The marines fought with knives, gun buts, and chain swords against their fierce opponents. Those space marines with the flame-throwers swept through the mass. The marines went unharmed when hit with the flames, protected by their superior armor. The Orks hit however, lacking any sort of good protection, were burnt to a crisp. Four more light marines were hacked to pieces while trying to distance themselves from the combat. The light marines were making a fighting withdrawal, however, and gunned down three Slugga Boyz that pursued them. Once away from the violent melee, the surviving light marines opened fire with their heavy bolter. Deadly shells were propelled into the mass, hitting both ally and enemy indiscriminately. Again, the powered armor of the space marines saved most of those hit, though one was still wounded by a bolter round to the leg. Several more Orks were hit, most virtually exploding from the shot.

At the heart of the hand-to-hand melee, the four terminators were locked in a desperate fight with the Nobz. The largest Nob smashed right through the assault cannon terminator, killing him outright. His retribution was swift, however, as he met his end at the hands of the assault terminators deadly lightening claws. The other two terminators worked together and mutilated the other two Nobz with their vicious chain fists. The death of the Nobz only served to de-moralize the Orks even more.

On the other side of the arena, the destructive volley from the other terminators and space marines transformed the mightiest warriors in the arena into mangled heaps. Even as the Warboss turned to assault the newly arrived marines, he could not stand against their firepower. The other Orks on that side had already scattered and were being picked off by the light marines. They were in no condition to rally after the death of their mightiest warriors and it was only a matter of time before they were finished off.

Commander-champion Lysan finally hurled his assailants off of him. He threw is damaged helmet to the ground and took his Thunder Hammer in two hands. Lysan a wide sweep, splattering several Orks and knocking back the rest. Their enemies had no leaders and their survivors were being eradicated. Lysan held his hammer high and yelled the cry of victory, with was answered by every other marine. They had survived this day, both their bodies and their honor.

SRS SELKIN, ANSHALON-CLASS HEAVY CRUISER

The force required to pick up an Anshalon-class heavy cruiser and slam it into an entirely new dimensional rift is bone-jarring. And although the felinoid Shalrirorchians are noted for both their physical strength AND their reaction times, the event occurred with sufficient suddeness to throw everyone who wasn't restrained to the deck. Almost as an afterthought, the computer decided that an uninvited planar rift was worthy of immediate attention, and it kicked off a red alert in response.

"Report!" barked Captain Jadeja over the sound of the klaxon. The lights dimmed to bloody crimson, giving the crew a fierce look. Before anyone could respond, the computer's voice was heralded by a shrill alarm. "Warning, temporal distortion. Primary systems offline, switching to secondary systems."

And then the sensors came back on. This...place...was littered with unknown spaceships, all seemingly as powerless as the Shalrirorchian cruiser that had just arrived.

"What the....?" the Captain began..

Explosive rounds began sailing over the course, creating both a shrapnel hazard and a bombardment threat to the Kendaryn and the Theao.

"Oh god no..." he suddenly realized that he had not been awakened from a mere dream, but from a vision of the future.

Seeing the sparkle, the rider came up with a new plan. He continued acting like he would do the jump, but as he got about 2 meters away he hurled his knife directly at the Kendaryan and closed the distance between the bikes and grabbed the handlebars to steady the other guys bike as he used his bikes brakes to flip himself on to the back of the Kendaryan's bike.

ooc: the manuver he use rendered his left arm dislocated and useless but also painless.

28-03-2005, 23:31
The Kendaryn flung up his arm, deflecting the knife, though he got a bad slash on his arm in the process. Flipping his own blade to an ice-pick style grip, he stabbed backwards at the Theao biker, who had just landed on the back of his vehicle.

The blade sliced throught the Theao's side but enabled him to grab the Kendaryan's knife arm and force it up his back while he smashed his helmeted head into the back of the Kendaryan's neck.

He swerved straight toward the edge of the course. A pile of rubble blocked the path to safety, and explosions filled the air around the two bikers.

The Theao rider managed to get the bike under some semblance of order but not before it suffered some damages from bouncing off the walls of the track and some of the debrie. The falling artillery did some superficial damage to both the rider and bike. The bike while damaged was in better shape than his old bike and he took off cranking the throttle up.

ooc: I've stated before that this guy use to be a pro-class biker.

Zerig Tomarok waited motionless, scanning through all wavelengths that he thought might provide useful information. He paid close attention to the patterns of sound and motion; no significant alteration in these rythms would go unnoticed.

Based on the limited information available, Zerig estimated that there was a probability of about 40% that his enemy or enemies was (or were) using similar tactics to his own. He decided to wait 2500 seconds more, then go in search of another fighter.
2015... 2014... 2013...

OOC: I know, but he would probably have had a few seconds, at most, to regaion control; also, the path back to the middle of the course was blocked, so he would have to back track slightly to continue.

OOC: I'm very, very sorry for my absence. Vast cosmic intelligences do tend to be a bit aloof. Now then.

The following players are participating in the Games: Kendari, Thaeo, Hakurabi, Gronde, Redball/Ineffable, Shalrirorchia, Horned Rat, Nanotech Army, Unther. I've decided to ban multiplaying, so Redball/Ineffable will have to choose one or the other. Greenskinz may rejoin. New applications are on hold unless more players drop out.

Attornia: don't make the mistake that unther did. Your fleets are held in isolated pockets of hyperspace and your ground troops are in communal holding facilities. Also, I apologize if I seem exclusionist, but too many players would be very hard to manage.

Round 2:

"Congratulations, Gentlemen. You have been, and will be, of great service to our scientific endeavors. In the future, your opponents will be far more formidable. You will be allowed fifteen minutes to gather salvage. You will then return to your habitat, which lies, for the moment, beyond either of the archways leading from the room."

Round 3:

The "silver bullet" sllces slowly, perfectly, gracefully over the track, leaving an everchanging pattern of pressure variations that is beautiful in several frequencies of ultraviolet. It courses directly across the finish line at a relative altitude of 3.4 meters.

A voice echoes through the mind of the remaining Hakurabi. "Verdict: invalid. Although the pilot passed the finish line intact, the act itself entailed the immediate destruction of the hardware by collision with the track and with the ground several hundred meters on. Nonetheless, the plan was innovative, and highlighted special advantages of your infrastructure and methodology. Your companion was removed from the hardware prior to impact, and will be restored to your people. Your own life, however, is still contingent upon winning the race."

Meanwhile, the remaining 7 bikes of the main group passes through a large gap in the debris, while a tattered flyer takes a hit from shrapnel and falls to the faraway ground with a trail of smoke. The marines take passing shots at the Thaeo pilot as he tries to regain speed, but his propensity for dodging raises disturbing questions on the nature of reality...

12 kilometer mark, 384 seconds.

The lead has fallen on the Shalrirorchians, with Gronde close behind, firing determinedly. The Pirates have capitalized on the confusion to close the gap. At 8k, a JEDI mech continues firing at the bikes, but at this range, the shots are impossible. 3 kilometers behind, the orc eagerly dispatches of living wreckage.

Casualties
Ineffable: 1 JEDI mech
Hakurabi: 1 PRV, pilot ejected
Thaeo: 1 bike, pilot acquired Kendari bike
Kendari: 1 bike w pilot; 1 bike stolen, pilot dead; pilot at 5k killed by orc

Forces
Greenskinz: 1 warbike at 5k
Gronde: 2 bikes with main group
Ineffable: 1 JEDI mech at 8k
Hakurabi: 1 PRV at 11k
Shalrirorchia: 2 bikes leading main group
Redball: 2 bikes with main group
Thaeo: 1 bike at rear of main group
Kendari: ELIMINATED

The Theao rider having lost his lead but gained a bike in good condition gunned the engine as he raced along the track after the main group. He realized that being in the back gave him an advantage of being 'safe' from getting shot, as well as providing excellent firing opertunites and began shooting at the other racers as he continued to speed up.

(OOC: IT'S STILL ARTILLERY! A field gun manned by a skilled gunner will take out a pro biker just as thoroughly as a novice. 120kph is NOT enough to dodge a crater.)

As the voice echoed through the remaining pilot's mind, his spirit sank.

There's no way I'm going to make it then. Very well. I shall attempt to eliminate the Theao. At least one of us will get home.

The quad kicked off with a screech as it had done at the beginning, and sent further artillery spiralling at the Theao, locking on to the radar of his adversary.

Some of the nanobots brought a shell round to the rear of the vehicle, welding it there before scuttling off again.

As the vehicle hit a bump, the armed shell detonated, blowing a hole in the back of the quad's armour, and kicking it forward significantly.

ooc: forget about my earlier posts k?

ic: the troops sudenly materialized in what appeared to be their barraks back on their homeworld. this was quite a shock to the biological troopers and to the simulants alike, as they looked arround nervously. one of the simulants decided to activate the electro-static camoflager unit on his armor and was soon given a camo-like pattern of dust on his formerly snow-white armor. The rest of the simulants did the same, just in case and then joined the "apes," as they called them, in the only coping method they all knew: taking apart and cleaning their weapons repeatedly...

The Terran Space Marines, however, stood apart from the rest, preferring to be in the presence of eachother rather than that of the grunts. (my space marines look like Halo2 Spartans rather than the warhammar 40k space marines, I like to do things a bit different) Instead, they occupied themselved my making sure that their shields and optics were working and that their suits were completely sealed before checking and cleaning their weapons.

back in the holding facility, the troops, even the normally unshakable Space marines, were getting a bit uneasy. they were all seeing what was going on in the arenas, but this was not the source of their unease, it was the waiting. the waiting for a new event in which they would compete. it was this, not combat itself, that soldiers feared the most, a long wait before impending doom...

**ROUND 5: The Stone Forest**

Environment
A vast, dim stone chamber. The vast pentagonal space extends approximately 10 kilometers from end to end, and 1 kilometer from floor to ceiling. The walls are covered in elaborate sculptures and heiroglyphics, as are the 20-meter stone pillars evenly spaced at 100 meters in a continuous square grid.

You emerge from the preparation room, where you have gradually adapted to a gravity that is slightly lighter, and an atmosphere that is slightly heavier, than that of earth. Disturbingly, the circular 100 meter gap becomes one with the elaborate, vegetative stonework.

Forces
Antornia: 10 cobra gunships
Gronde: 10 hammerhead fighters
Nanotech Army: 10 nanobots (Aerial)
The Horned Rat: 10 fighter-bombers
Unther: 10 sentinel class fighters

With luck, they'd be able to take the Gronde out of the contest early and minimize their losses.

OOC: Okay. A shadow pirate's better for this anyway.
IC:
The pirate stalked slowly through the undergrowth. His cloaking generator rendered him invisible to the naked eye. Scanning in the infra-red though, he would be clearly visible. Pirate technology was notorious for producing excess amounts of heat, and while the cooling systems for the Shadow's stealth generator was advanced, he was still a glaring target. In fact, he was more of a target in IR while the cloak was active than he was without it; an insectoid species, the pirates were cold blooded, a description as true of their actions as it was for their bodies.

S-Feg raised his arm, and looked right through it. At least that meant it was working. He didn't trust the aliens who had abducted him. He took a swing at the nearest tree with his photonic power-scythe. An energy blade, it nonetheless required power and, since the cloaking generator required much the Shadow Pirates were equipped with a blade with only the effectiveness of a monomolecular blade. Nevertheless, it remained on par with most melee weapons not wielded by force-users.
The blade slid through the trunk of the large tree effortlessly. The tree fell to the ground, with a crash that resounded throughout the forest.
Realising he probably just gave away his cover, S-Feg heaved a large stone into a nearby pool of water to make a loud splash, then quickly scaled a nearby tree, and waited.
He hoped that, if someone came to investigate, they would assume he leapt into the water to hide himself. His tree was close enough that he could leap and decapitate anyone who decided to pause and investigate this...

Ok, I'm here...

Daniel Grahi looked at the leutenant standing before him coldly. "Now explain to me ONE MORE TIME! How did you manage to lose 10 of my men, not to mention the Fighters they where piloting!"
The leutenant was terribly frightened of Admiral Grahi at this point. Grahi was known for his tempers when he lost soldiers, and for someone to be seen as directly responsible for those soldiers who where lost, Grahi was the type to make him regret losing them in the worst way he could think of. "Sir, I told you! I couldn't do anything. I sent them on recon like you told me and they just vanished! They where there one second and gone the next! I couldn't do anything sir! I swear it!"
Daniel looked the man over, seeing he was terrified. His heart softened, but the giref and anger was still there. "Officer... You get my men back to me. I don't care what you have to do... I want them standing here in my office, and soon..."
The Leutenant nodded and saluted, "Yes sir! I will do my very best to get them home alive!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
10 fighter jets flew in perfect formation through the area. Radars picked up several unidentified vessles and so they flew in Deffensive Formation #1293, the more popular formation for defence against ambushes. All of unther fighters learn one thing above all: Pilots who stay in formation stay alive! Truly, studies had shown that so far, 87% of pilots who died in combat died while out of Formation.
So if nothing else is was taught to a pilot, formations where drilled into their brains mercilessly. Seargeant Axil Coros led his the fighters in his squadron through the area. He had been informed by the announcers voice that this was a fight to the death. He had also been informed that the penalty of losing was more then just his death...
"Ok everyone. Be on the lookout and stay in formation. There are many enemies and it's very possible we will be ambushed. We need to keep a defensive for now and let the others fight it out. Then, when they have killed eachother, we will wipe out the rest. Just hold tight and look around."
Affirmatives rang out on the coms and Coros continued. "If you see a guarenteed kill, take it, but if you can't kill them with a snipe, don't shoot. It has to be a clear shot, and thus a clear kill."
Once again affirmatives rang out and They moved slowly through the pillars keeping an eye out for enemies...
ic> Captain Stravenski was the only one at ease in the squadron. The hammerhead was his favorate fighter. This could not be said about the rest of the pilots. Within moments of the start, Stravenski detected the Antornia units surging towards their wing, firing off seeker missiles. The squad broke into evasive maneuvers but were unable to shake the missiles lock. The individual fighters dogded around in the chamber to escape. 200 feet. Stravenski ordered the fighters to regroup, realizing that each missile was locked onto a different fighter. As the enemy missiles converged, but not colliding of course, he dropped off a special sub-munition designed for this and for hitting pursuing fighters. The munition expanded into and energy net, catching the seekers missiles and detonating them. Stravenski ordered the squadron to turn and charge the enemy, blasters firing. It was a flashy way to say "supprise," but the party had just begun.
OOC: Help or hinder help or hinder…
IC: The 10 cut and paste fighters were nearly in dead space as the tactical situation was assessed.
On the lead fighter-bomber was a meched-out engineer. His thought process barley even resembled organics. Streams of code were washing over his cybernetic eyes. All of it being processed as the crew waited for orders.
Location: Arena
Targets: Group of vessels unleashing ballistic missiles at another group.
Protocol: Move in and destroy combatants/Pull back and evade.
Here is where all the technology could not break the instinct. A skaven would wait and hide, but the figures said going in would ensure the destruction of the other parties.
Flank them from the rear, and crush them, then regroup and hide among the wreckage.
The other engineers had already received this and moved out in a delta formation….
For all the calculating precision of the pilots, the ships were different. Chipped black paint, rust, a ruddy green color all over, and smoke belching engines…. except for one that for now was silent…
"Oh, SHIT!" was the last thought to go through the mind of Cobra 5, as a blaster-bolt seared through his cockpit and blew his rotor to pices, one of which hit one of his wingmen's craft and punctured its fuel-tank, which exploded and reduced the chopper to a plummeting fireball. Cobra Lead quickly took controll of the situation and ordered his wingmates to regroup before lining-up his targeting-reticle on the cockpit of the leading enemy fighter and unleashing a stream of 75mm rounds at the enemy pilot...
"Roger that Cobra 7, take 2 others and proceed with Omega Protocall."
3 of the helocopters rotated 180 degrees in mid-air and flew towards the oncoming Skaven craft. "Initiate Omega Protocall!" the helocopters stopped in place and Cobra 7's pilot held up his hand uttering a single word, "Reveal."
A purpleish flash emminated from his eyes as the mysterious shroud that had been setting in cleared for himself and his two comrades for a distance of 3 miles. There! he spotted the oncoming craft and rotated his chopper to face them, his wingmates doing the same. "Omega Protocall, NOW!" in front of Cobra 3, 9 reddish-orange orbs appeared and blossomed into beams of heat which shot foreward at one of the Skaven craft, a garunteed hit, in front of Cobra 8, 3 swords, apparantly made of energy, appeared and shot toward another of the enemy craft. Then it was his turn, Cobra 7 raised his hand, pointing his palm toward the enemy leader and shouted "SPARK PLASMA!!" His eyes flashed purple again as the lead skaven craft was surrounded by a field of lightning-bolts which branched out and struck 3 more enemy craft. Their secret weapon had been revealed, Cobra Squadron, like all of the Terran soldiers, were Adaptus Elementus, users of psyonics, the power of the mind to project on the world to constructive and even destructive result, Adepts.
OOC: what exactly do you mean by "reduce the general power level"? Normally, "Reveal" would have shown what was hidden for 5 miles arround, so your tech allready affected it in one way. Also, "Omega Protocall" is intended to be applied in the fassion that it was, reveal, 2 single target psyonic attacks, and a multi-target psionic blast (Spark Plasma actually looks kinda like the Psyonic Storm from Starcraft), but anyway, how would you have me "reduce the power level"?
02-04-2005, 01:49
OOC: but I never stated how much damage they did... It's entirely possible for a craft to survive the big one if it isn't the one that the attack was concentrated on... the other two attacks wouls be obvious killers seeing that the heat-beams would melt through the metal and the energy swords impale themselves in the target and explode...the concentration craft for the big attack however would take serious damage... it would be no different than a missile hit, except it was a psyonic attack instead. I could have gone by the Starcraft example and had the attack incinerate the brains of the pilots affected but I didn't... the reason that I'm so reluctant to change the attacks is that they are the main advantage that my people have (besides, you pitted some of my HELOCOPTERS against FIGHTERS! not exactly an even match.) I'll accept the fact that the reveal failed though.
OOC: what about the 75mm fire at your lead fighter's cockpit Gronde? also, you are all fighting against my attack HELOCOPTERS! not fighters, I duno why some of my hummingbird attack/escort craft couldn't have been sent out...
ooc> Ok. I forgot about that. Just so you know, the lead fighter and the captian are not the same fighter. Also, I am only going after you because you tried to take me out early. That, and I don't want to eat THR's warpstone weapons just yet.
(I actually wish some of my Shining Spear fighters could have been sent in. But that wouldn't even be fair.)
ic> As the squadron swept over the enemy, the lead fighter (AKA: the commander) was hit by 75mm fire. The Hammerhead, lacking the sheilding of a shining spear, was shreaded and the commando's fighter crashed in a burning fireball. The fighters were going at a rappid speed as they passed and were able to shake the seeker missiles for a few moments. That was all they needed. The tail guns on the fighters began gunning down the missiles one by one as they closed in. Unfortunately, the fighter in the rear was unable to disable the missiles soon enough and was incinerated by the explosion. The remaining 8 craft charged toward the Nanobots and prepared to cripple their force as well.
OOC: they are attack helocopters like those used by the US military, only more technologically advanced. still, they won't do all that well against fighters.
OOC: Sorry, I was just spraying the combat, that and we were the only three here at the start….
IC:
Target Priority Shift:
Gronde vessels shifting attack
Standard Tactic: Warping/Mines
Response: Avoid pursuit
Unidentified Man thing vessels in disarray
Tactics: Unknown
Assumption: Chaos, confusion
Response: Destruction…
Optimal range reached, warp engines shut down, energy diverted to guns.
Maximum power reached, target solutions selected
ALERT
Threat: Inbound missiles
Response: Shift energy from guns to shields
The ballistics slammed into the two front vessels, even though strong, the shields cracked like ripe melons. The resulting warp explosion acted like a two-edged sword and destroyed the other missiles, but destroyed one of the other ships.
Response: Fire 60mm machineguns, charge warp-lightning cannons, fire another wave of rat racers, 2.
12 missiles and hundreds of rounds flew at the remaining ships…
OOC:
I have lost 4 ships so far, just so you know…
OOC: iI think that you are portrayion your shields as a little bit too powerful THR, do you know how powerful C-4 is? a pound of the stuff could bring down a medium sized biulding, think what 20 pounds could do...
IC: as the Skaven craft turned and opened fire, Cobra Lead gave the order for his 5 remaining choppers to scatter and try to lose the oncoming missiles among the colums, they all obeyed and activated their countermeasure pods at the same time, creating a cloud of chaffe with flares mixed amongst the metal foil, before turning on their jammers and hurtling towards the ground, where they flew low to try and fool the enemy into thinking that they were destroyed before re-grouping and turning on their fuel synthesyzers...
ooc> Yes, you use C-4. I use anti-matter:
1 gram of c-4 may deliver several pounds of explosive force. . .
1 gram of anti-matter is E=MC^2 (that's energy = mass x speed of light squared)
THR's shielding is designed for such weapons. What do you hope to do with c-4? This is future tech after all.
OOC: the helocopters are designed to take out tanks not air/spacecraft. my standard ATA missile is armed with 75 pounds of C-137 high explosive, designed to negate shielding found on aero-space fighters but not on tanks.
Cobra Lead looked up with satisfaction, 6 of the skaven missiles had detonated within the countermeasures cloud and the other 6 had hit coloms that were beyond them. the enemy would most likely assume that Cobra Squadron had been destroyed and persue the Gronde, that is when the Cobras would strike...
Cobra 4 recieved the NTA unit's transmition and sent an indirect, un-tracable responce back: <transmition> the only way to escape is to survive in combat in as many of the rounds as possible. </transmition>
Incoming weapons detected... Initiating evasive maneuvers and countermeasures
The ten nanobots dispersed from their formation, flying apart from each other in an attempt to seperate the incoming weapons. At the same time, they began firing at the approaching anti-matter weapons with their energy weapons, in an attempt to destroy them before they could reach them.
OOC: I do still need to know what effect energy weapons have on the anti-matter weapons you fired at me.
ooc> You would end up with a large exlosion exploding in your general direction. It wouldn't be as bad as a direct hit though. Although, the chances of getting them all is slim. (They split off into several mini-missiles when fired, hence the "salvo") I will continue but allow you to resolve your action in your next post. It's not like my pilotes are worrying about the effect just yet.
ic> Taking advantage of the confusion caused by their missile salvos, the squadron swept past the nanobots. They contentrated photon blaster fire on a few of the outer fighters before performing a vertical U-turn and charging away. The tail-pilot of the squad left a present in the form of another energy net sub-munition. It would be capable of catching several fighters with a good hit. The whole strike only took a few seconds. The Captain hoped that it would leave the enemy confused and crippled; even easier prey.
Activating Skitterleap engines
The remaining Cobras turned and headed off toward the so-far untouched Unther fighters. they would pull-off what is known as a pop-up strike, traveling below sensor coverage untill they wrer in range and firing their missiles upwards at their targets, missile seeker-heads switched to heat-seaking. within minuits, they were in position, and after choosing their targets, they all opened fire at the same time before popping-up behind the enemy and firing a 300 round burst from their 75mm gattling cannons and dropping to the deck again.
ooc: sorry about the delay, been extremely busy (still am :( ). Don't really have time right now so I will go ahead and RP me losing this round.
IC:
The swerving nanobots fired upon the antimater projectiles, their laser weapons tracking closer and closer to the approaching weapons. Several succeeded in hitting them, causing massive explosions as the energy weapons impacted on the projectiles. The others were not as lucky, as the antimatter weapons reached their targets and detonated.
The few surviving nanobots were soon overwhelmed by the fire coming from the hammerheads, causing energy overloads as they attempted to absorb the energy.
Results:
Three nanobots destroyed by direct hit from antimatter weapons
Five nanobots destroyed by secondary explosions from antimatter weapons
Two nanobots destroyed by energy overload from blaster fire
