Operation Desert Wind - Invasion of Oman

For years the Military personel in Eritrea had watched as there enemies had been able to bypass thier waters on there way to and from the suez all the while knowing that if they could just seize control of Oman. Finally that time had come, the order was for a night time raid. A mass airstrike from Darkstar2 drones and B-52's coupled with a naval bombardment and fuel air strikes. Infantry would then be dropped inland aswell as landed on beaches to secure crtitcal targets. As soon as possible the mechanized forces would be landed for the charge through the country and possibly a push up into yemen. Supplies would come from Erirtea, only a few miles away.

-Opening Salvos-

At the airfields in Eritrea the haunting shapes of the Darkstar2 drones slid out of their hangers and took off. Silently heading to their targets over Oman, operators checked the LOCAS missiles had there targets. This operation was one huge experiment in cost control in a warzone, the missiles were far cheaper then what most nations were using at the moment. In the sky AWACS cruised above the target zone. Dots began apearing as more and more aircraft started to take off. The green glare of the screen illuniatingthe faces of the operators, everyone was slowly counting down as the dots headed toward the targets.

Aboard HMS Jabbawocky, one of 2 carriers on seen, Captain Napier was gazing over the flight deck. The sun had set and the last glows were fading, a F-18sj was being guided onto the catapult and its engines roared as it flew off the end of the Infusion class carrier and off to join its wing on its way to mop up what targets they could find. Above B-52 bombers cut through the night sky on there way to deliver masses of ordinance to their targets. Each one was full to the brim with explosives, this would be one hell of a blow to a small nation.

Below the waves one of Huzen Hagens most recent weapons was preping to launch ts payload, having disposed of its nuclear weapons the Emperors government decided to use its ballistic missile subs to deliever masses of fuel-air explosives. These subs would be able to flatten entire beaches before troops landed. Crude yet extreamly effective, these weapons had the added advantage of terror, the few that would survive would have terrible burns and those that saw an entire subs payload hit a beachead would turly be awed. The blast would be felt and seen for miles.

Escorting the Jabbawocky and her sister were some of the Empires most potent battleships, stripped away from a close bye Emperors group the ships would be able to lob shells from miles out at see. If need be they would also turn to cruise missile but tha job was mainly left to the cruisers. One cruicial ability they had was one of the main reasons they had been chosen for this mission. They all had been equiped with an anti-satellite sweet and if need bye any enemy satellite indentified would be shot down in order to protect the invasion force.

Just outside Omanian waters the main invasion force floated. Castles of steel patrolled and protected the troops carriers, already perperation were made form the quick unloading and filling of LCACS and Helicopters. Some ships were designed to run themselves aground on the beaches in order to delive armour suppport as quickly as possible. The key to minimising casulties was to hit the enemy very hard and very fast.

------------------

Oman suddenly lit up. The Darkstar2 drones began first by hitting the most important targets, there was no way they would be detected by Omans defenses, there LADAr guided missiels crashed into their targets without a hint as to where they had come from. The next payload was from the sea, the sky lit up as missile rose from the decks and streaked to their targets. Soldiers onboard transports stared gobsmacked at the light show that was unravelling about them, the trails of smoke drifitng over the calm waters. Although what they were seeing were the daths of hundreds of people there was no denying the beuty of what thy saw and they too were going to be seeing their share of death and destruction soon enough.

Above Oman, in amongst all the various bombers, were several C-130 transports. Onboard Sgt. Smith looked down at the explosions on the ground, he and his brigade were going to be the first ground troops to lay foot on soil, special forces were about to jump aswell but at a different location. Suddenly the light turned green and everyone stood up, the carefully rehearsed checking of gear began. Once the landed they would secure the area using the new colour nightvision goggles to give themselves the edge and support the para artillery who were jumping with them. Everyone was ready and the order was given, Smith piled out the plane along with the rest of his comrades. The invasion had begun

-=The Invasion of Yemen=-

While the intiall bombardment of Oman took place another campaign had begun to unfold. The decision had been taken to go stright into yemen, there would be no warning of this attack. Troops were going to be going in at the same time as the planes. Troops ships beganning edging toward the coast line, at 23:45 they passed the magic 5 miles barrier and a new pace was established. Ships began to bombard the beaches, at this range there fire would be highly accurate and they would keep the barage on the towns around the landing zones right up untill the first LCAC's hit them. On carriers planes screamed off the runways and darted toward the land, below them the pilots could see the first of the LCAC's being loaded up and on the decks of the helicopter carriers giant sea stallions began whirring up there blades.

In the hovercraft on the sea men were waiting what would be for some of them, there first true fight. This would show what they were worth and prove that they deserved to wear the uniform they were in. Finally, after what seemed an age, the first wave was ready. The giants fans of the LCAC's sped up and soon a mass of the beasts was charging toward the sand of Yemen. By now some locals had got word of the invasion and grabbed ther rifles, communications were down and most military installations anywhere near the landing sites had been whiped out by heavy air strikes. The landings zones had been chosen as the major cities of Aden and Al Hudaydah where not too far away as to allow people to time to evacuate but not too close as to allow any military to tarvel quickly to the beach head before it was established. As the LCAC's roared up onto the beaches some small arms fire came from the dunes. The marines on board quickly disembarked and began laying down suppression fire, several had been hit by Ak-47 rounds and somewhere in the dunes there was a light machine gun. Sgt.Henderson ran over to his radio man and called for a small bomardment of the dunes, within seconds 2 sea harriers that had been tasked to give close in support rorared over head and the dunes exploded as the timed cluster munitions peppered them. The marines had overhwelming superiority now but they would have to move quickly incase they encountered a superior enemy.

After a few hours of fighting the main landing zone was declared clear enough for the second stage of the landing. As medivac helos brought back the casulties sustained in the intiall landings 2 large transports were picking up speed and heading for the beach. Each of them carried 3/4 of a mechanised division and as soon as they landed 2 more would hit the beach. Soldiers watched as the 2 transports got closer and closer to the beach then both of them ran themselves agrounds, one after the other. As the dust settled the sound of huge pumps could be heard as the front doors opened onto the cargo bay. Engineers quickly began what they had reherased many times before, special vehicles inside the cargo bay were hooked up to massive belt of steel road and they drove out onto the sand and up the beach towards the road that had been laid already. Once this was done, the roar of engines could be heard as the tanks and APC's of the mechanised division began to taxi out of there holds and over the beach to where the ground was much firmer. On top of the transports several Apache longbows began to prepare for take off before vehicle moved ment create too much dust for it to be safe. Once in the air they began to sweep the front lines to give close in support for the marines.

**D-day+1**

As dictated by the battle plan Aden was to be surrounded by 2 of the 3 mechanised divions that had been landed while the 3rd was to help bar any assistance getting to the city from the south west. The carriers wer to keep the a constant stream of birds in the air to destroy any major military forces that came out of the woodwork but the main bulk of the airforce was to keep up the pressure on Oman. Once a cordon had been established around Aden wnough reinforcements would have arived for the other 2 major cities in the south to be surround quickly. Huzen Hagen would choose where and when to fight, armour would be used to quickly travel and surround the major cities before land forces took over the job of establishing the cordon. It would take alot of man power but a mahor Huzeny colony was only a few miles away and so supplies would be plentifull. However a port would still need to be taken and Aden was deemed the most suitable, to take it ground forces would go and take each house if need be. If resistance was too great then there was a backup plan. Heavy artillery would be brought to bear and most of the city would be flattened, the port area would be left unaffected and so what little there was standing in the city would be easy to take. If the latter option was taken then casulties among the civilans would be huge, however the Emperor had decided that it would worth it. The control over suez canal traffic that would result in the sucsess of this operation was too great a prize to miss. Native outrage at such an act would be huge, however they had to find out about it first. If Aden had to be flattent it was decided that no one would get out and no one would be allowed to go to it after. People would be outraged yes but enough propaganda would be sufficiant to stop the cries of genocide getting out.
