I'm Curious about all the Earth 0/I/II/III/IV/RB Buisness. What does it all mean? Can someone explain it to me?

Essientially, it's a way for two nations to claim the same RL territory. For instance, say you and somebody else wanted to claim China. Instead of fighting over it, you can claim China on Earth II, and the other guy can claim China on Earth III.

Personally, I consider it a load of superflous crap that only degrades quality on NS, but that's just my opinion.

OOC:

Agreed. I think I'm going to pull out of RB.

Good in ideas, but when it finally comes to RPing it always becomes stupid and bogged-down.

THL, my advice to you is stay as far away from those things as humanly possible.

Personally, we subscribe to the "multiple lines" theory.

That goes "if you want to play with someone, figure out what you own, and go from there".

The "Earth #" people are trying to have ownership of specific areas. Rather silly overall, but meh, its a game.

Seeing as you've already RPed yourself on your own set of islands which no one has rejected, there is little point in worrying about those threads... their purpose is more or less to create more Real Life territory that those players can feel like they are using real geographry instead of made up geography.

The biggest advantages I've noticed from these threads comes from the fact they use real life geography giving them easy information on their nations exact position as well as organisation with which to work out who is next to them and what advantages they get from their position (for example, Gibraltar [sp]).

However, there are various roleplayers who completely shun the idea of using the real world geography in such a fantasy game and have recreated their own region with well documented maps of their own which offer the same advantages without having to claim they annexed Africa (which often results in numberous arguements and requires that they conduct imperialism over a NPC nation, which personally I find a little wanky concidering the way people do it).

Personally, myself and the majority of RPers couldn't really give a damn about these Earth threads... they are simply a tool, a somewhat over used tool at that as it limits imagination instead of encouraging the creation of a new interesting nation. The NS world is full of made up nations with their own geography... whats more, many nations copy real life geography but don't join Earth threads because they aren't claiming the nation they copied, just using the maps from it. In many respects this makes the Earth threads little more then another roleplay universe to further distance themselves from the made up NS universe.

As others have suggested, staying away from these is usually a good idea... you have your own nation already and you know what you want from it. The Earth threads have little benefit to you.
