BREAKING NEWS: ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON VICEROY OF THE PROTECTORATE OF AHNIA

March 6, 2005

Aproximately 1 hour ago, an enormous car bomb was detonated outside Viceroy Andrew Zalo's mansion in Marzukali, Ahnia.
Half of the house was leveled by the explosion. The Viceroy, however, had recently left to go speak out against the Rabbit
Hunter's Guild at one of their impromptu meetings. Zalo's family, however, was still in the house. Zalo's wife, with whom he has been in the
middle of a divorce with recently, was injured, and is in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital. Zalo's only daughter, 21
, who was visiting home for the weekend, was killed. Ahnia has declared a state of emergency. Several arrests have been made despite the small
size of the police force. All suspects hail from the nation of Romecria. At the moment it is believed that the car bomb
was made out of large ammounts of fertilizer that was triggered by a remote control. Witnesses report seeing two suspicious men emerged from the van
about half an hour before the explosion. Witnessess are currently helping to identify the suspects. Viceroy Zalo has been escorted to a secure location.
Although no formal statement has been made, it is believed that Romecria is to be blamed for the attack. Statements from both nations are expected soon.

The Grand Patriarch wishes to know whether you require any assistance in this matter, and if so, what?

Ahnia National Press Agency [ANPA]:

After the attempted attack on his person earlier this morning, Viceroy Andrew Zalo himself issued a statement to the press. Zalo, a proponent of the recently-proposed trade law, the Romecrian Trade Tariff Plan. The RTTP has faced furious opposition in the parliament, and outside Ahnia as well. Under said plan, all trade between Romecria and Ahnia would be stopped, given the recent addition of four B-52 bombers and 60 F-16 jets to the Romecrian Air Force. Andrew Zalo has long been infamous as taking the Ahnian value of peace to the extreme, and making similar boycotts and demands of other armed countries. Amid tears, Zalo issued this brief statement:

"As all of our great nation may now know, there has been an attack on my house, myself, and my family. Let us not pass judgment without evidence, for we are fair, but let us hope, as is the Ahnian way, that such things will not happen again. We must come to understand the perpetrators, these detractors, before we make decisions that will affect their welfare and ours. I urge the persons who committed this atrocious act to step forward, to take responsibility, and to explain themselves. The parliament and people of the Protectorate of Ahnia are willing to negotiate differences, and to wage war. Our answer is contingent on your reply. Ahnia still stands strong among the nations of the world.

Action has not yet been taken, as indicated by the statement. The parliament may convene following any communication from the unknown opposition. For now, it seems, the government is at a standstill and the public is reeling.
