Research vessels flagged for the fledgling Shalrirorchian Federation have made an immensely shocking discovery in the outskirts of the Cania System at the very edge of Federation territory.
Recent weak signals were detected in the Cania System's outlying asteroid belt recently by the small Canian colony of Tel Saraa. A S.F. research detachment was dispatched and was shocked to find the massive hulk of an ancient, wrecked superstarship concealed within the belt's more dense regions. The ship is perhaps many thousands of years old, though Shalrirorchian sources refuse to confirm this data.
The discovery of the ship itself, however, pales to what has been discovered aboard. The ship, code-named Sanctuary according to leaked government documents, is in possession of a Great Core.
Great Cores are almost mythical throughout the entire sector. Constructed by an ancient and nameless race, a Great Core allows instant hyperspace jumps across vast swaths of galactic territory. Modern hyperspace drives are but a pale imitation of the Great Cores....a journey between Cania and the Shalrirorchian home system of Pollux that would take weeks or months on conventional drives could be accomplished in a second with a Great Core. It is unprecedented that such a young race should come to possess one.
S.F. officials stridently deny that a Great Core has been discovered in Cania, but just a few minutes ago we received word that a Shalrirorchian battle cruiser, the S.F.S. Leonidas, has arrived in the System. The Leonidas, a Vindicator-class ship, represents the most advanced starship currently in the Shalrirorchian arsenal.
