Off the coast of the Cape Verde Islands, Admiral Harold McCall was smiling, and smiling proudly.
He had been sent by President Featherston to claim the Islands as a territory of Virginia. they had been sitting idle since their independence from Portugal, or Spain, whicherver Iberian power gave it up. Now, it was experiencing political instability, and it wasn't caused by the RALM.
He commanded an entire Virginian Marine Expeditionary Unit, some 25,000 men (and a 50 man Lighthorse detachment), six Wasp-class ships, 3-4 Oliver Hazard Perry class Frigates, 5 Arleigh Burke Destoryers, and for fun, 2 Kitty Hawk Class Aircraft Carriers (Virginia had the Nimitz, but it was very expensive, they kept most of them for major troubles).
As he steamed towards the Island of Fogo, the main Island of the Cape Verde Islands, he decided to strike.
Off of the carrier decks, the TSF-28B's, developed by Tyrandis and sold to the Combine, flew towards the capital of Cape Verde, Praia.
The TSF-28B's were soon accompanied by swarms of Tomahawks fired from the Perrys and the Burkes, as al of the dispatriate tools of destruction flew towards their destination: the various small military bases, raido stations and AA Installations around Praia.
The result was chaos, the city was left defenseless and without communications, as explosions shook the city to its core. Then, after the onboard Sea Cobras and TSF-28B's cleared out landing zones at various airfields and beaches, the Marines landed, using Sea Knight helicopters and LCAC's.
They soon overpowered the tiny and hopelessly outnumbered Cape Verdean Army, sweeping away its outdated ex-European equipment using the latest in air support, and the courage of their infantry, taking huge parts of the city in rapid time. The Lighthorses, in particular, made short work of the Presidential Palace, taking out the elite guards and forcing the President to surrender, all within the span of 10-30 minutes.
The rest of Praia surrendered soon after, though the rest of the citizens of Cape Verde were not to be so prostrate. The citizens of Praia indeed, were not too happy to see these Virginians come. They especially resented it when the Virginians rose their flag over the city, which signified they were no longer a free people. The occupiers promised them lienience and rule by local persons, but still, they would have a tough time convincing the locals why they were here.....
The Marines indeed had to take the rest of the islands, after all, they had only Praia. That was one island, the rest still needed to be made "Enlightened," as it were, by the coming of the Virginians.
TO BE CONTINUED!
