Establishing Contact (F/T intro RP)

OOC: I've wanted to do future tech for ages, but I never seem to get round to it; anyhoo, the first few posts will be an introduction to my future tech nation, then after that if anyone wants to find them feel free, or they can find someone on their travels, or something like that. I do ask that no-one just stomps in and invades though.

Anyhoo, on to the information:

The Marimaians

The Marimaians are a lost 'tribe' of humanity; how they got where they are in the galaxy, no records remain. The Marimaians don't appear to want to know how they got where they are, they believe that it was divine intervention which brought them to their world. They are limited explorers, not wishing to expand further than they can handle, and they are fiercely protective of their current holdings. They have had limited contact with other intergalactic powers, and harbour severe mistrust of anyone who they see as a potential threat. However, once placated the Marimaians will engage in diplomatic relations; although it is common for foreign dignitaries to feel somewhat uncomfortable around members of the Marimaian Self-Defence Forces.

The Marimaian Sphere Empire (MSE)

The Marimaian Sphere Empire is relatively small for a 'space empire', only encompassing three systems. The empire is a totalitarian state ruled by Emperor Daikhito, who is known as the 'Eternal Father' and 'Son of The Heavens'. Daikhito is revered as a godlike diety, with weekly services being held in his honour; his cult is widespread throughout the empire, and a picture of him hangs in every building.

The three MSE systems are located close together; the empire hasn't expanded further due to their limited FTL capabilities. As such, colonisation of these systems is heavy; the Genyosha system contains the homeworld Marimaia, making it the most populous. The Daitou system was the second system colonised, and is now proving profitable to the empire. The Nagano system is the most recently discovered, and is the focus of much of the MSE's attention. The MSE's colonies are all specialised, with each performing a specific function; agricultural worlds, industrial worlds, military worlds, and so on. The only exception to this is Marimaia itself, a prosperous planet which is rich in arable land and natural resources. All MSE worlds are protected by planet-based defence systems, and the military is developing orbital weaponry to supplement this.

The population of the MSE is almost entirely human; the few exceptions are a small Nekojin population discovered in the Daitou system, and a few hundred Feyans (OOC: look like elves and live a bit longer than humans, but no powers or anything special). All Marimaians are raised to be loyal citizens of the Empire; their education is focused towards practical knowledge and the religion built around Daikhito, with propaganda messages being broadcast daily in all major cities. All Marimaians go through compulsory military service through ages 18-21, with exceptions made for those going to university.

The military receives a hefty percentage of the imperial budget, despite the lack of major enemies; the MSE is nothing if not paranoid. Most of the military is focused on planetary defence garrisons, which are responsible for the interception forces; squadrons of small space-capable fighters are stationed on each planet to swarm-attack enemy ships in orbit. The final service in the Self-Defence Forces is the Sphere Navy, comprised of seven 'carrier groups'. Each carrier group contains one mothership, three cruisers and 150 fighters; the cruisers and the fighters dock with the mothership during FTL travel, as the motherships are the only vessels equipped with the technology.

OOC: Any chance of a contact RP? Or do we do that here, since this seems to be more of a factbook than an RP.

We'll start a new thread, as it'll allow me to expand on the F/T factbook in this thread.

Probably best if you start the contact RP, as the odds of the MSE reaching someone else's space seems quite low.
