A big thing of Alexian History.

A long time ago, an empire existed consisting the territories which are now the Alexian Empire.

In it’s last years, the empire was ruled by a series of emperor’s and ruling cliques that were much more intent on modernizing the country and internal growth rather than expansionism. All the same, the nation was constantly drawn into wars by aggressors making violent incursions to it’s borders.

Long years of constant fighting made the populace very bitter, aswell as drained the economy, sending the empire into a slow decline.

The country, being very ethnically and culturally diverse, was soon rocked by dozens of great nationalist movements, and deciding to avoid impending civil war, the compassionate and gentle emperor let, in fact helped, the empire split apart, turning into a number of independent republics.

Despite the ethnic nationalist leanings of the people at the time, the peoples of all these new states were still very close, having all been part of the same country, and all the countries were at peace with each other, and the movement of people between them was virtually uncontrolled.

During the early 1960’s, In the republic of Greater Nationia, the country was in great turmoil as different factions vied for power. During this time, an obscure non-aligned military commander who was known as Aluishius Chan , distraught at the state of his countries, grouped together an army of likewise minded soldiers and veterans from each faction, and with the cream of every factions soldiers, he lead a decisive military campaign against every faction of the country, easily beating them with superior skill, equipement and military tactics, and seizing control of the country. In early 1963, General Aluishius Chan declared himself, with support of his modernized army, President, and immediately set about helping his country. Under Alushius, the waring factions were soon disarmed and disbanded, dwindling to insignificance. Under the good General, agricultural production started once again to thrive, and the great famine that the fighting had caused ended. The neighbouring republics regarded the new president with utter indifference, as he did to them, for this was how all regarded the peoples of the republics regarded each other, and there leaders were all really just magnified versions of themselves.

(The Following for Earth DA only:

Due to Aluishius’s refusal to answer to either Washington or Moscow, but his willingness to accept all aid from both, Greater Nationia was largely ingnored during the global power strugles )

Although Aluishius was a just and competent ruler, by the 1980’s, groups of rich landowners and industrialists, who had prospered under the good general, wanting more power, saw a democratic parlimentry system as an opening for such a thing, and thus worked together in a struggle to force Chan out of power. The movement against him did not have very much popular support, but with there wealth, the rich men of the country worked together to sabotage General Chan’s reign.

Opting not to move for violence, the rich men instead chose to raise food prices and to throw people out of work, causing massive enemployment in the urban centers.

Not being a violent man, General Chan did not respond with violence, only intervening when the actions of the aristocrats threaten to harm the general populace.

And so un-empedeed, the pressure on his regime increased.

In a final showdown, General Chan established a parlimentry system and then reseigned as president, and his military junta remained only long enough to oversee the elections.

And with that, Greater Nationia turned to democratic rule.

This was again seen indifferently by the neighbouring republics.

The new system was extremely inefficient and corrupt. The wealthy aristocrats who had co-operated so willingly to overthrow Aluishius, were now completely intent on there own gain, and they vied among themselves for power in parliament, resulting in almost nothing ever being done. The country’s economy once again became almost stagnant.

At around this time, Alexander Thompson was born in the sprawling capital of Central City.

Alexander, since a very young age, was obsessed with power. As a young child, he always sympathized with the villains of fairy tales and stories.

As a young man, Alexander was heavily involved in what could be called the local politics, which, in the dense urban centers, meant he was involved in the local gangs.Having been born into a non-practicing family, ( what would often be called a “blank” family, or a “blank” person.) he was easily accepted into the predominantly muslim P.O.I. gang, which ran numerous extortions and contraband rackets. It was thought that he was about thirteen at the time, although records are sketchy.

The P.O.I. gang became very powerfull in the south side of the city, were he lived, and where it was based.

(I will write an article on the important role crime gangs play in the lives of Alexians later)

Alexander, and a number of his friends, rose quickly through the ranks of the P.O.I. gang, and by his late teens Alexander was a very powerfull person in his community, and had an ever growing supply of wealth that came with the position, as he ran a number of profitable loan sharking and contraband drug rackets for the gang.

But this set up was soon shattered, as a certain politician became Prime Minister, winning a majority government, and wanting to solidify his power, came onto the scene. Rightly perceiving the thousands of crime organizations which plagued the country and held the lower class in there grasp as his greatest threat to power, he lead a nationwide police crackdown on organized crime.

Many thousands of members of the P.O.I. was arrested (the gang’s members numbered in the tens of thousands, in a city whose population numbered around the thirty millions) and still hundreds upon hundreds more were killed in conflict with police, and the reign of the lengendary P.O.I. gang over the southside ultimately ended.

Alexander, being a hardcore member of the gang, was thrown into prison along with thousands of others.

He was released in a matter of months, but he came out to a world with no promise. His money and power were completely gone, and all he had ever had had been taken away. This left him extremely bitter, and so with an ardent and dedicated hate for the current government.

Seemingly, he maid the decision to move into federal politics.

Although the gang was disbanded and scattered, it’s former members still wielded considerable influence in the local communities, many of the old leaders them having formed breakaway gangs or used there great wealth to move into legitimate business.

Armed with this, and his reputation, Alexander broadcast over local radio stations and lectured on street corners, and eventually universities and colleges, about the inherent flaw of the current government, ruling class and system.

After gathering money, he went around the country and the neighbouring republics, trying to get to know his people. Upon his return, he found the disadvantages of being heavily critical of the rich and powerfull, and him (along with a good number of other critics) were harrased by police and private thugs, and was ultimately chased out of the country.

Alexander fled to the neighbouring country of Greater Lesser Nationia, a small and extremely poor country. There, he founded the Emperialist movement.

His idea was that the old empire should be revived, and absolute authority granted to someone who had the best interests of the people at heart, what he called, “A monarch of the people” as in from the people. This, he said, would be not at all corrupt, and infinitly more efficient than the current system.

(It would take pages upon pages to explain my theories here, so I will leave it at this and not bore you. I suppose you could say this is the jist of it.)

A number of his old childhood friends, who roled with him in the time of the P.O.I. gang (who were later to become the ruling clique of the country.) were taken into his movements, and became some of the great men of the movement, with Alexander as the founder.

The republics being heavily integrated, this movement was easily spread, and began to gain popularity in all of the former empire.

Alexander drew his ever growing power base mostly from the urban poor, but also from the poor rural populace and farmers, who were often overtaxed, and whose farm’s production were hindered by overbeuracratisation.

The eventually came to have the popular support of the people of the republics, and Alexander made a triumphant return to Central City. However, the ruling aristocrats worked together in ensuring that Alexander would not win a popular vote, using private militias to intimidate the population, and Alexander refused to run for any office in any of the republics, citing that the system was corrupt and it would not be right to even involve himself in them.

The harrasement of Emperialists by police and private thugs continued and intensified, until finally the movement drew thousands of supporters into the countryside, arming and training guerilla units, and preparing it’s supporters to move against the government.
However, during this time, a rowdy MP was causing a lot of trouble in the parliament. The religious fanatic called for the return to “the old ways”, and that the doctrine of his cult should become law, that Greater Nationia should become a religious theoracracy. Finally, the man and his ragtag band of followers declared upon rebellion upon the central government, and withdrew to there native province. The army was sent in to stop them, but used to much force, declaring martial law, conducting house to house searches, and arresting people arbitrarily.

The fanatics following was at best negligible, but this heavy army presence to antagonized the provinces people that they were hit with a wave of nationalism, and soon civil war had erupted in Greater Nationia.

Seeing this, Alexander exapanded his operation greatly, training ever more people across the republics. In addition to this, he had influence in parts of the army of every republic, as the soldiers in all countries were mostly poor city or country folk.

And soon, he declared that the empire must be re-united, and civil war spread across every republic, with the governments fighting the emperialists, along with all the other opposition groups who had taken this as a chance to move, and with them fighting the emperialists, and so fourth.

After several years of war, every part of every republic was under Emperialist control, and the emperialists finally moved on Central City.

Alexander, leading the emperialist forces, took the city at long last, and with that, declared the empire re-unified, with him as the new emperor.

And as the new emperor, he officially named renamed the his hometown of Central City to it’s present name, Alex City, and made it the capital of the empire.

But by the time the Central City people heard the tanks rolling in, the emperialists had lost much support. The people were weary of the fighting, and discontented with the emperialist thugs who ruled over them.

The emperialists were now widely hated, and there emperor seen as nothing but a mad despot, and rightly so.

But all that would change.

Seeing the weakness of the new country, the rulers of an the neighbouring land ( forget the name now) launched a malicious invasion, intent on destroying the weakened emperialist and drastically expanding there territory.

Alexander quickly pulled all the forces from across the country out of the way of the advancing army, withdrawing south and creating a stronghold in Alex City(at the center of the country), and leaving the entire country to the mercy of the invading forces.

This had been part of his plan.

The people, already sick of war, were outraged at this invasion, and heavily resisted the oncoming forces. This, in turn, gave them a renewed sense of brotherhood, a brother hood. United by there resistance, they began to think of themselves again as one people, as Alexians.

The invading army, weakened by the powerfull civilian resistance, and slowed by the thousands of landmines the reatreating Alexian forces had layed in it’s path, was soon extremely demoralized, and when Alexander launched his counter offensive, they fled back across the border in horror, never to return.

The empire had been unified.
