In yet another attempt to attract foreign investment in the Russian economy,
President Vladimir Putin is proud to announce that he will preside over Russia's very first academy awards for movies! Every nation is encouraged to send a movie, (OOC: Either describe it, or if you have a lot of time on your hands, film a trailer for it.) so that a vote can be held for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Most Alcohol Content, and any other categories that may be suggested. Russian entries coming soon!

(This certainly bears watching. I don't yet know whether BG will contribute, I shall have to think about what our film industry might look like. At moments like this, I realise that it probably doesn't help that I only took film studies to avoid being kicked out of college, and because the lecturer was a bit of a stoner. Come to think of it, I realise that while trying to fight off wild bears or climb ladders, too.
Ooh, I think we'll try for an abstract Bollywood Musical on a vaguely revolutionary theme ;) )

Trailers and full movie are available for download (56k'ers b'ware) at www.braxtanfilm.com

*****FYI**** have spoken to hank @ braxtan in the past and have his permission to link to his site.

((Heartening to see you are still quite on the ball, AC))

His Most Christian Majesties Kingdom of France would be delighted to put forward its cinemagraphic masterpiece, The Limes of Winter.

It made its stunning debut when war was likely between France and England.

Tis the story of a monster, the anthropomorphicized hog man Bull, who uses his evil henchman (democracy and secularism) to enslave the fair princess in a pit of mud, subject to abuse and torture.

Then a shining knight on a white horse rides in and after a daring battle and not a little cunning slays the pig monster, cutting open its Union Jack vest with the sword of Charlemagne.

Its about one and a half hours, would be defininatley rated 'R', and is a piece of propigandic melodrama suitable to have been made by a French Michael Moore.

That said, it has a great music score (the chorus of "A lime is a lime, you see, but it cannot stay fat indefinitley" is breathtaking) , astounding cinematography, and a key line up of French actors, including Gerard Debardous as Prince Lucem (aka Louis XX).

Of course it ends with the couple riding off into the sunset, having been married by a devout Catholic Priest, to go rebuild the kingdom destroyed by the Hog monster.
Quinntonian Dra-pol

Well, what movies would I like to see up for Oscars, maybe some great Christian classics, "The Passion of The Christ" and "Lord of the Rings." How far back can this go? What would Quinntonian "Braveheart" or "Gladiator" look like? Hmmm.

As for the above two, they wouldn't be changed at all, seeing as how Mel and JRR are both fine upstanding Christians. Though, in true American fashion, I recognise that JRR is British, Mel is Australian, they were filmed in Italy and New Zealand, but the expertise and money came from us, right?

OOC: i was goign to be really cheesy and just psot the intro movie from a MW game as a trailer for a animated feature
but...

<set voice=movie anouncer>
"In times of trouble it can seem that the even the light of hope has been extingished"
Scenes of panicing crowds soldiers firing into them, random brutalities
"Old loyalities become new rivalries"
Shot of a group of african soldiers movign through jungle/scrub (looking like the pursuers from tears of the sun)
"but even in the darkest hour, there is a light that can save us all"
Shot of figure shiloetted in a barn door, FAL in one hand, calymore in the other
"That light is..."
Shot of blue woad (brave heart) painted african and europeans blazing away from a fortified farmstead
"UNITY"
shot of previous defenders charging out of the farm with a kilted calymore waving nutter in the lead.
Flashes to the title Screen
Homestead MacKensie
Together we will stand!

breif details:
Released to celbrate the 15th aniversay of the battle of MacKensie Farm, the turning point of Malawi/strathdonia troubles and argueably the birthplace of the strathdonian dream.
A group of european and african farmers coem together to help each other see off the chaos and roaming bands of raiders that beset the former country of Malawi. They make a determined stand against the local bandit warlord (who turns out to be french oddly enough and a raving racist but then what would you expect from such an unsophisticated country as strathdonia) in a series of clashs that culminates in a massed attack on the farm.
Side stroies include a heart wrenching love story about the relationship between the youngest of the MacKensie brothers and a yougn african nurse and teh breakign down of predudice.

the final film is in the end best summed up as Zulu meets HEAT, meets the Matrix (SMLE no4s in bullet time!!!) with a couple of bits that woudl appear to be very typical of british romatic comedies.
Oh yeah and there is lots of very scottish humor and dense scottish accents (think chewin' the fat, rab c nesbit, naked video etc with accents not too far away from Sweet 16. Subtitles will be included on all langauge versions including english).

Strath, what is the exact name of your Yahoo account? And could you provide the Best Actor, and Actress? Quinn, could you provide some original movies? Lord of the Rings and the Passion are very good films, but the point here is to make something original from your nation. Ah, and brilliant film, Elkazor. Alright, I'm adding another category: Best quote.

i'm not on much but i can likely be on tonight between 8-10pm GMT

Actors i'll need to work on. i don't really want to use big names so unless you watch BBC scotland you might not recongise them.
one actor i will defiantly use is the guy from "the district", the one who was supposed to be from belfast but had a rather strong glaswegian accent, he died at the end of series one...
Or i might juts use the entire cast of the district... hhmmm cheif manion with a claymore....

LYONG-TI
http://img70.exs.cx/img70/5357/lyongmovie.jpg
Movie Title: Lyong-ti
Movie Genre: Epic Adventure
Movie Summary:Lyong-ti tells the story of the semi-mythic hero Lyong-ti, who rose from being the fifth son of a rice farmer to become ruler of a vast empire spanning the whole of the present-day Lyong Penninsula region. The movie follows Lyong-ti, through both his battles (filmed on a massive and spectacular scale), and his deep but ill-fated love, finally ending in an allusion to his ‘ascension to Heaven’ (according to traditional Spyran animism, Lyong-ti is said to have risen to become ruler of Heaven Depending on how seriously this scene is taken, and the religious background of the audience, this may cause some controversy).
Cast: Ieyaren Sutreiin-Takai, Mei Furitaka, Venton Teshigawa. (The first two actors are young and talented, popular for at least one successful film each, though these films did not undergo international release. Teshigawa also has some fame, for his starring role in the drama film Red Falcon, and for his numerous stage roles as a Shakespearian actor.
Producers: Spyran Ministry of Knowledge (numerous propaganda, documentary, and cultural works); Spring Blossom Studios (Red Falcon, Ogawa, Hunt for Blue Dragon).
Special Effects: Due to the epic nature of the film, a large number of effects were used, including advanced pyrotechnics and maximum-realism CG effects, as well as a huge cast of extras employing intricately detailed costumes and props. Particularly notable is the high degree of realism in terms of blood and wounds in the large battle scenes.
Director: Takeshi Kaga (a talented director, very famous within Spyr, and holding some international fame for his work on such films as Ogawa and The Emperor’s Concubine.
Running Time: 205 minutes.
Rating/Content:
Violence
Language (to avoid difficulties with foul language, all profanities in foreign-language versions of the film are given in the language of Lyong. Thus, though their role is clear to foreign audiences, their meaning is not.)
Mild Sexual Content

[the following is the trailer which appeared in theatres, just prior to the release of Lyong-ti]

(A black screen, faint music with drumbeat in the background)

NARRATOR: Two thousand years ago…

(The camera suddenly reveals a ¾ overhead scene of mountainous, snow-covered terrain, zooming past at high speed. The drum beat quickens to match, and the music volume begins to rise)

NARRATOR: In a world rocked by chaos…

(The camera leaps over a crest in the mountains, revealing a wide plain below, on which two feudal armies clash. There are thousands of soldiers on each side, both footsoldiers and cavalry, with the occasional ballista, hacking, slashing, and beating each other).

NARRATOR: One man rose up to found an Empire.

(Clips flash by in quick succession, as the music approaches crescendo. A young man (Lyong-ti) in a swordfight on a rain-soaked rooftop. A cavalry horde thundering down a mountainside. The swordfight. A line of archers unleashing a rain of arrows, cutting down the charging cavalry. Lyong-ti passionately kissing a beautiful young woman while the room around them is consumed by flames. Again, the swordfight, as Lyong-ti’s sword is sent flying out of his hands).

(The music vanishes after its crescendo, and the screen goes black. White letters spring forth: ‘LYONG-TI’).

Pirates of the Pacific
[Taipinhai no Haibei]
http://img69.exs.cx/img69/5185/pacificpirates.jpg
Genre: Action Comedy
Summary: Pirates of the Pacific is a comedy that begins to tell two separate stories. The first is that of a bungling pair of buxom pirates, following in the footsteps of their pirate fathers, who had sworn a pact with their crews to grant their sons the huge mother lode of treasure accumulated over their lifetimes. The sons of the remaining crew cut out the two daughters, as they aren’t technically ‘sons’… and so the two (along with one pirate son, whose pervert actions got him stuck on the wrong boat) take a leaky old ship out in an attempt to find the treasure before their rivals do.
The second story is a parody of Moby Dick, where an old, one-eyed navy captain is obsessed with harpooning a dinosaur-like sea monster that outsmarts and taunts him at every turn. As the film progresses, both stories begin to come closer and closer together, until they collide head-on in the final conclusion.

Tigers of the Revolution
http://img193.exs.cx/img193/3657/tigers3it.gif (http://www.imageshack.us)
Movie Genre: Historical Drama
Movie Summary: TR is a film telling the story of the ill-fated ‘Metaken Revolutionary Brigade’, made up of volunteers who left their island paradise to help defeat the warlords in the Glorious National Revolution. The brigade was famous throughout the conflict as one of the most successful Revolutionary forces, accomplishing goals that were often thought impossible. Their final heroic act took place at the Battle of Naisho, where the Brigade charged the enemy artillery, distracting their fire long enough for the core Revolutionary forces to overwhelm the foe. The brigade numbered almost 7000 at its height… after Naisho, there was only one survivor. The central carving on the monument at Daikakumei-ro, shrine to the Strainist revolutionary dead, depicts the brave actions of the Metaken brigade.

The film follows the brigade, with painstaking historical accuracy, from its formation to its destruction at Naisho. It is a war movie, with all the battles such entails, but it is also a heart-wrenching drama, as the members of the brigade struggle to maintain revolutionary idealism while war rages and friends die around them. In the end, dedication to revolutionary duty overcomes fear and hesitation, for the goal of Strainism is worth the cost of the revolution.

Ogawa
http://img19.exs.cx/img19/5131/ogawa6or.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)
Genre: Action-Drama
Summary: A film retelling the Lyongian legend which explains the origin of the river Ogawa (in present-day North Yaman).
Ogawa was a young man, who decided to defend his people from the mountain dragons led by the god Ataryuu-ti. He trained and trained, but always was beaten, until at last Ataryuu's mother came to him. She said: "My son has become impure. he remains in these caves, imbibing foul poisons, when he should be amongst the tree spirits, where he belongs. The mother of Ataryuu then tore open her chest, and let her own heart fall out in front of Ogawa. "Eat this, young human," she said, "It shall grant you the power to defeat my son and restore Heaven's order... fight well, so that he may be purified in death, and join me in Heaven”. Ogawa took the heart and ate it. He then brewed the traditional Warrior's Tea of joi leaves, using the dragon's blood instead of water. As he did so, he knew he was himself becoming impure, fouled by the blood and the flesh. But, he wanted to protect his people, and he refused to dishonour the dragon-mother's sacrifice by turning back. When Ataryuu next came upon the humans, Ogawa was waiting, and engaged him in battle. Long they fought, neither able to gain the upper hand, until at last Ogawa's body was torn by the Dragon's fangs. As he felt his lifeblood pouring out, still dirtied from the brew from the she-dragon, he closed his eyes and let himself be swallowed. Ataryuu, in his arrogance, attempted to swallow Ogawa in a single gulp, but could not, and choked to death upon the body. Upon which, the dragons looked upon the humans in shock, knowing that even they would not be able to achieve victory in death. They slowly departed the mountains, and even in the present day, dragons will only return to the mountains in the times of bitter cold, when they may use the smoke of cooking fires to avoid human settlements. As the blood of Ogawa flowed from the mouth of Ataryuu, Heaven saw that a great spirit had died impurely, through no fault of its own. So, they transformed Ogawa's tainted blood and flesh into that which is purity itself... He became a clear and flowing river.

The Koan Offensive
http://img143.exs.cx/img143/373/koanoffensive1sx.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)
Genre: War Drama
Summary: An older Spyran film (1962) which depicts (using some real footage) the Koan Offensive, which began with the hardline communists in the Stalinist-Strainist coalition that had led revolution in Tagan began a crackdown on their Strainist allies. Spyran Strainists joined their Tagani brethren in executing a counter-coup, culminating in brutal streetfighting around the Stalinist stronghold of Koan. It was a costly victory for the Strainists in their first major post-Revolution conflict.

---------------------

Red Falcon
http://img19.exs.cx/img19/4971/rf8ft.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)
Genre: Historical Drama
Summary: Red Falcon tells the story of the Red Falcon tribes on the Helekar plain, whose leader Mitsurugi fought unsuccessfully to unite the plains and defeat the warlords who were devastating the people. With a tribal culture of mutual support and communal ownership of some property, the Red Falcons are depicted as an indigenous and independent blossoming of socialism. Some critics feel the film spends too much time on daily life, and too little on the more exciting aspects of the Red Falcon’s rise.

---------------------

The Emperor’s Concubine
http://img19.exs.cx/img19/995/econc0mc.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)
Genre: Historical Drama
Another of the Spyran historical epics depicting the August Empire, this film tells the story of its fall: Of Emperor Shy-ti, who remained cold and distant from all (including his concubines), and of the evolution of the relationship between the Emperor’s First Concubine Michi-fa and the Emperor’s brother Prince Thiwen who partook of a secret and illicit passion in the corridors of the palace. The story ends as did the Empire: the Emperor Shy-ti dies while enroute to the shrine of Lyong-ti for New Years prayers, leaving no official hiers. Upon his death, numerous persons emerge with claims to the throne. Michi-fa, pregnant by Thiwen, may have saved the Empire had she claimed the child was the Emperor’s… instead she admits that she was in love with the Prince, and the child was the product of an affair. No agreement could be reached on an alternate method of ascension, and the final scene depicts the scattering of the priest-generals as they abandon the capital and shatter the Empire in civil war.

---------------------

Hunt for Blue Dragon
http://img143.exs.cx/img143/8741/bytl4id.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)
Genre: Historical Drama
The Blue Dragon was an armed boat of the Revolutionary Army, which holds a pivotal place in the history of Spyr. The Revolutionary Army had mustered to repel an expected warlord assault near Taihang Mountain, and had achieved victory there, only to discover that key warlord forces were missing, headed towards the lightly-defended city of Zhondai. Blue Dragon rushed downriver towards the city, to warn them before warlord forces attacked. It spent six days dodging and battling warlord infantry, river boats, and a biplane, before staggering into Zhondai with its message. The warlord attack was resisted by the Zhondai militias long enough for the Revolutionary Army to reach the city and relieve them. This film, released in 1958, is black & white, and film quality is generally not very high.

Genre: Pornography
Summary: Like most pr0n, NINY has little plot, and has spawned numerous sequels. Rouhly, the stories revolve around a Yamani ‘wild woman’, who uses sex to supplement everything from conversation to combat.

Ayo Gurkhali!

One of the few war films to come out of Hindustan, Ayo Gurkhali! tells the story of a Gurkha platoon in World War Two. The movie starts in the campaign for North Africa, and then goes on to Sicily and Italy. While criticized for its length (186 minutes) and the lack of background on its main characters, Ayo Gurkhali! features stunning battle sequences, using authentic* equipment and convincing special effects. With actual Gurkha veterans on-site as consultants, every attempt was made to be historically accurate to the utmost. The film's climax, the battle of Medicina, is easily more intense than Saving Private Ryan.

Ayo Gurkhali was first meant to be done in the style of Band of Brothers, as a 10-part television (and radio) series, it was eventually cut down to feature-length format. It is visibly darker than Band of Brothers, with many of the main characters dying over the course of the film.

*While most Britsh equipment is accurate (Carden-Lloyd carriers, Shermans, Typhoons, etc.), and German uniforms and small arms are accurate as well, only a few actual German tanks are used, with most of the armored formations seen in the movie being made up of re-turreted AMX-13s. Also, North Africa scenes are filmed in the Thar desert, and Italy Scenes are filmed in Pakistan.
Sino

If there is one film from Sino that is undoubtedly the film of the year there, it would be Zhang Mouyi's Through the Scope: Eyes of the Rifle, a heroic story about a sniper who gave his life fighting the Taiwanese separatists during China's most turbulent years.

http://realmaps.beyondunreal.com/images/reviews/fm-china4.jpghttp://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1965000/images/_1968262_sniper_afp300.jpg

The main character, Corporal Lin having recently been trained as a sniper was put to the test in real warfare. The audience follows the story mostly in his perspective, as he hits the beaches in the first wave, take out target after target of men, switch between weapons of different manufacture before becoming one of the many casualties in the Battle of Taipei. Unlike the many historical dramas previously released by the Junta, 'Scope' takes the audience through the stark horrors of war, the changing face of human nature as conflict and fatigue takes hold, and what it feels like to be a sniper. Starring Chen Lang as Cpl. Lin, this film lives up to the tagline- One shot, one kill. The dark nature of this film makes Enemy at the Gate look like Stalinist propaganda. Some scenes were filmed on location in Taiwan, increasing the feel of realism.

(Rated R-18 in the West due to realistic war scenes and high-level violence.)

Well, 'Night in North Yaman' has my vote...unless Hudecia decides to enter 'Cube 3: Cubed', the latest installement in the Canadian film series.

I have one question though. Does Hollywood still exist in AMW? Is the international movie medium still dominated by Americans, or is it more regional - basically, do other nations make as many high end movies as Quinntonia, thus flooding the world market in a different way than occurs in RL?

United Elias

The true epic film in UE, which nearly every citizen has seen in at least parts is the ten part 'Tanzimat', referring of course to the reforms put in place by then Governor (later President) Eliahu-Ezzra Elias that culminated in a breakaway from the Ottoman Empire in 1876. Made in the late 1970s it documents with remarkable accuracy the emergence of the nation. The final part 'April 16th' shows the troops of the defected Ottoman Army escorting the Governors of the Vilayets of Baghdad and Basrah, who having agreed between them to become President and Vice-President of a new state, are riding horseback through the streets of Baghdad towards the Ottoman Administrative building to submit a mutual recognition treaty between the Dictatorship of Elias and the Ottoman Empire, as hundreds of citizens gather on the streets to celebrate. For dramatic effect this scene is backed by the music of the Grand March from Act II of Verdi's Aida and this song has therefore become synomous with the founding of the nation, and commonly used at official events, even though it was written five years after the event happened, and associated with it only through the film.

All languages are original, so it is almost entirely in Arabic and Hebrew (obviously with subtitles), and is extremely authentic (many of the locations of the actual event remain largely unchanged). Overall, the events are based as far as possible on eyewitness accounts and official records, even gruesome events such as the beheading of some officers of the Ottoman Sixth Army are shown in graphic detail, and generally, other than through music, the film avoids either glorifying or condemning the characters. In short, Tanzimat is without a doubt UE's most notable film achievement, and perhaps the most detailed and accurate feature set in this period.

~Feet in Snow
This is of an epic that celebrates the founding of the Xiannese Republic after a toppled monarchy becomes a dictatorship. Ye Zhao Feng, the founder of the Confederate China Party with ties to the Sinoese nited China Party and government managed to raise support with overwhelming numbers. They were attacked in the city of Dalian and were forced to retreat North with the help of Hudecian Hospital ships.

The cold winter had ultimately made the soldiers' moral collapse. However, a sweeping victory by Zhou Jin Zao directly attacking the capital and liberating it with the help of Wu Ze Min(Jing) had allowed Ye to lead the refugees and supporters into the safe haven of Beipao. Ye later meets up with the two Generals and defeats the dictatorship of Dao, who later escapes North and announces the forming of the Republic of Dongguk.

The Ottoman government, so recently returned to theinternational stage, would like to present a few movies, actors, directors, quotes, and actresses for the Oscars. All movies are subtitled and all names and summaries translated. Thank you.

Love the Job, Not the Pain

This movie, considered an epic in Ottoman cinema, tells the story of a young man who has his first taste of war in the sea of blood man call World War I. During this film, he sees blood on his hands and learns the true menaing of war; what is really is, behind all the fancy language.

He starts out as a boy who fails half his classes at the age of 21, not a rare thing in the Ottoman Empire, at that time. However, instead of going for the degree he could have got, he goes for the army, a job he has always wanted. He, since he is a very strong, lithe, man, goes far in the army and is promoted.

Then comes the war. His first battle, a battle against the British is a long, frightful, affair, frightens him to the bones, but he does not desert. He then has many more battles, climaxing in the battle where he, at last, deserts. Then...watch the movie to learn.

When All Hope is Lost

This movie, another historically based movie, as most Ottoman movies are, is about Sultan Abdul Hamid II. Abdul Hamid II was a man who gave himself to Allah, but didn't care about the people or anything like that. This movie tells about his last days, the days when he knew he would be thrown off the throne. It is a touching film that really has you feeling the plight of one of the greatest villans in Ottoman history.

For Death or Life!

A documentry on the founding of the Ottoman Empire, this movie is a very important part of Ottoman culture. Said to be almost exactly how it was, by historians and art collectors alike, it is truly an awsome film. It recaps the conquest of the Turks, their diplomacy, and the eventual founding of the empire. The best orginal song nominee song is sung in English, a new idea, and adds a true feel to the already breathtaking movie.

Rated: R, for Violence, Action
Length: 124 minutes

Our Mountains

A documentry on a group of men who are following the route of another expedition in which ten men are killed. They try to find out how. This film is breathtaking experience, showing the geogrophy of the empire in an entirly new way. When shown in Imax, this film is undescribably amazing.

The Great Journey

The latest installment in the ever-popular vaguely Buddhist inspired Hindustani musical, The Great Journey tells the story of Prince Balthasar and his walk around the world. With a musical score writted co-operatively by Ziggy Marley and Ravi Shankar, the film will probably be up for best songs first of all. Prince Balthasar meets different groups of people and different religions, and learns the meaning of love, life, and spiritualism. Balthasar faces many perils, from the arduous passes of the Hindu-Kush to deep southeast asian rainforests and the expansive Khalahari desert, but finds humor and happiness in any situation.

At the end, Balthasar narrates a short section that praises the great human rights figures and sums up the moral of the story. All in all, a well-edited and entheusiastic movie if a little bit cheesy.

The Card Cheat

One of Hindustan's more widely-praised films, it tells the story of an Indian from Mumbai, from birth to death, during the late 1800s and 1900s. It is an interesting review of Hindustani history, and chronicles involvement in the First World War, the Raj period, the rise of Gandhi, the Second World War, Gandhi's death and its aftermath, and the moulding of the modern state of Hindustan.

A new addition to the growing numbers of Chinese war films include Tracks, a film set in the days leading up to Gen. Liu's founding of the provisional Armed Republic of Sino through the eyes of an MBT's crew of three.

Tracks is one of the many films that portray the graphic horrors of war. Filmed mostly in rural Suzhou and the outskirts of Ningbo, with real tanks borrowed from the ARSA's 12th Tank regiment, Tracks take the viewers through the realities of tank warfare as never seen before.

With award winning sound design, and an original orchestral score performed by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, viewers are guaranteed to beat their hearts like drums through scene after scene of explosive, DU and HEAT action. The sounds of tracks rolling over the corpses of dead soldiers and grinding them into burger patties has never been so real.

(Also rated R-18 in the West due to realistic war scenes.)
