IMPERIUM- Ministry of Defence officials announced today the extension of the procurement period of the NX-MRAAM-2 Asp Viper and -3 Electric Cobra air-to-air missiles. An additional 7500 missiles of each missile is planned. The missiles’ producer, Commonwealth Defence Industries, has agreed for the augmented contract at over 73 million for the Asp Vipers and a 10 billion for the Electric Cobra missiles.

Although the projects are still highly classified by the Royal Air Force, information points to the two missiles being advanced next generation, beyond-visual-range missiles that are presumably with improved fragmentation warheads.

This increase in production, intended to add to the Commonwealth’s stockpile, coincides with the recent procurement orders for several other missile systems, all of which remain highly classified. Sources indicate that the recent deployments of several carrier groups to flashpoints around the globe, and the accompanying fear of imminent conflict, could be the reason for the marked increase in arms production.

Other missiles ordered, from the Parliament’s sessions over the past months, include the Rk.82 Eros – thought to be a long-range missile – as well as numerous naval missiles and ground attack munitions.
