Student Revolutionaries in the Republic of Rezlas Learn the Hard Way

Centraile, Rezlas TODAYS DATE – Members of the Rezlasnian Freedom Front, a dissidents student organization learned the penalties of civil disobedience the hard way today. These so called revolutionaries, bent on the destruction of our great society were handedly thwarted when they attempted to block access to Rezlasnain government offices today.
General Budlight, Commander and Chief of the Rezlasnian Armed Forces, stated “When the students arrived they were surprised to meet the firing end of our armed forces. With just over 100 soldiers and only 5 tanks we dispatched the 700 demonstrators in less than 30 minutes. It was a great example of the iniative our troops take.”
While the official body count is not in, sources estimate that more than 500 died and more that 150 were wounded in the bloodiest protest to hit Centraile since the government change over. The few survivors were quickly taken off to camps specifically designed to house dissidents.
President Jeffries praised the effectiveness of the armed forces in maintaining peace and order.

About The Republic of Rezlas
Location: The East Pacific
The Republic of Rezlas is a large, economically powerful nation, notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 20 million are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.
The tiny, corrupt, moralistic, pro-business government devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Healthcare receiving almost no funds by comparison. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Retail, Pizza Delivery, and Basket Weaving industries.
The latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, bicyclists are banned from major roads, and citizens are barcoded to keep track of their movements. Crime is moderate. Rezlas's national animal is the panther, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the rezlas.

Official Imperial Statement

The Empire commends you on your efficiency in dealing with the foolish demonstrators. Dissidence cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

So you in cold blood murdered over 500 of your OWN people with no warning? That does not speak well 'for efficency', it speaks for the seeds of genocide. The fact that you could kill the sons and daughters of your nation on little more than a peacful protest does not bode well for any future promise your nation may hold. As the first news out of your nation it does not make a good first impression.

Frank Marks, Liaison for International Affairs of the ROR, fired back at comments from the government of Mekugi today. Perhaps if the leadership of Mekugi took more decisive action like President Jeffries they would not have such an overcrowded justice system. Or perhaps it’s the fact that they have, according to their government website, “Hundreds of thousands of convicts work as slaves in Mekugi's many privately-owned prisons”. Perhaps death is less cruel than to force them to pump out substandard products for the rest of their life.

Those who have earned their punishment pay for it, but they are still living citizens... They just now help provide social assistance for the rest of their nation, in debt to their ignoble achievements.

We may have privatized our prisons, but we do not randomly kill our citizens for disagreeing with our decisions. Likewise if 'President' Jeffries had taken his own advice he would not have had to take such measures... as the people would be complacent, not dead. This event only goes to show your people wont tolerate such measures, and this massacre is only going to engrain a public hatred and partisanship amongst them. You have not won them over, merely temporarily driven them under.
