This is my (officially RPed) invasion of Afghanistan as I agreed to with The Macabees
Expansionist Idea's
For many years Lord Durthang had worked his way to the throne of Iran, by claiming to a Prophet he was able to convince the more isolated Tribesmen to join his cause, whom he combined with his own (Foreign) Household troops, a short but bloody revolution followed. It was a operation that took many years but It did not matter, Lord Durthang had the time.
When he finally finished his conquest he introduced his own religieus laws and brought his own people in the nation, Millions of them arrived every month and helped the High Lord create a new nation. Old cities were enlarged, new cities created, agricultural area added to feed the growing population. Offcourse there is a limit to the undertaking.
Eventually there was not enough land for all the new immigrants and the Lord had no other choice but to look over the border.
His eye fell on Afghanistan, isolated from the world but thanks to the desert in the South it could be easily invaded from Iran. The Lord, seeing his population grow bigger and bigger had no other option but to expand in that direction.
One of the staff officers made his way trough the palace, running to the meeting room at the other end where the generals where waiting. And noone runs trough the palace without at good reason, so the guards checked him at every door he passed, making him lose more time than he could win. He eventually got there "General von Lossberg? Lord Durthang has arrived, he is coming with the Prime minister and the head of Secret Service"
"Head of KHAD? You mean Kessler? That scumbag, he doesnt trust any of us, he'd sell his own mother for a medal. Why does he always ... "
The doors swung open before von Lossberg finished his sentence, the officers all saluted their leader, Lord Durthang, who had just appeared. Durthang is bald and pale, but his eyes are bright and clear. They could pierce trough a mans skin and noone dared to look straight into them.
On his left side a man in a grey uniform, grey hair, glasses, but a distiungished and intelligent man. His looks do not reveal his true character, head of a secret service, architect of many assassinations and liquidations. Not really close with the Lord but loyal to him and a succesful Secret service director.
On the right side stood another man in a uniform, white with red shoulderpads, He was Premier Romanov, the Prime minister. Romanov was a personal friend of the Lord and it was only because of their friendship that he had been appointed Prime minister.
Romanov always smiled, he a was very friendly, a true militarist who saw the army as the most important component of the Reich. Behind the friendly gestures and the smile however was a backstabber, ultraloyal to his Lord. Anyone who disagreed with the will of the Lord had to deal with him.
These were the coordinators of the invasion of Afghanistan, they had come to discuss the last details of the operation.
Everything was silent in the room, all waiting for either their commander, von Lossberg, or the Lord himself to 'start' the meeting. Von Lossberg was still swallowing his words and thinking of the right words to greet his leader. Durthang on the other hand was not about to waiste time on protocol " Well General, how far are we with our preparations. Show me what you've got."
With his hand he ordered his officers to pin the necessary maps on the wall, one of the officers placed a big map of Afghanistan on the table "Here it is myLord, allow me to explain everything. The overall strategy is quite simple
Our ground invasion will start here on the southern border with Afghanistan, where they are now on manoeuvres. Our tanks will make their way trough 'Dasht-i-Margo' or 'the Desert of Death' straight to Kandahar, from their we will follow the ring road to Kabul.
Kabul, gentlemen, is our main target. You must see the nation as a human body, with Kabul as heart. The ring road is like the veins leading blood to the diferent parts of that body. By taking Kabul we can control this body, therefore we are focussing on the Afghan capital.
Once we have it we will continue our campaign to the East and Northeast, these area's are not as easily controlled as Kabul but by the time we are there, we will have defeated most of their regular forces and achieved total control of the Air.
Kessler was not entirely convincd of this plan and interupted the General: " 70% of Afghanistan is mountains. Are you really sure you can just wipe out a garrison with only airsupport." His interuption did not impress von Lossberg at all and he had an answer ready. "Remember what I just told you, the heart and the veins. Our airsupport can destroy convoys supplying a garrison. Infact all we have to do is bomb the road on narrow passes. Its like a finger that is cut, it will bleed until bandaged. We can hold their supplies up, capture or destroy them and once we've done that we can take the base or garrison it was to supply with ease."
"Offcourse we must begin with an aereal bombardement of enemy airbases and military posts if we want to be succesfull, our numbers are greater than those of the Afghans. Here on the wall you can see the number of Afghan fighter planes, the type and where they are stationed. 15 MiG29s and 30 SU27s in Shindand, 15 MiG29s in Kandahar and at Bagram 24 SU25s, 15 MiG29s and 15 SU27s. And that gentlemen is the Afghan airforce.
Oh there are also 24 Hind D attack helicopters and an unknown number of Mi-17 transport helcopters, but none of these aircraft should pose a threat to our ground invasion. The bases of Kandahar and Shindand are primary targets for our bombers, once these are defeated we have destroyed half their airforce and the rest wont hold out for long."
"the enemies ground army can be found our main map. 5th Division in Shindand, 17th in Herat, 15th in Kandahar, 14th in Ghazni, the 18th in Mazar-i-Sharif, the 12th in Gardez, 8th and 7th in Kabul, the 11th in Jalalabad, the 9th in Asadabad, the 20th Bagram, the 25th in Khost, the 2nd in Kunduz. And at lower level, a regiment at Faizabad and another in Nahrin. All their forces are spread over the whole territory, a succesfull air invasion will insure us that it stays that way. We may not allow them to change their position to much. They are most vulnerable in the cities."
"That leaves me with only one last factor to discuss: the tribes ... Mr Kessler was going to work on that i believe."
"That is correct general, And i am still working on it. I have sent out KHAD operatives to bring them to our camp. So far i can confirm the support of the tribes around Herat and the Southern part of Afghanistan. Those in the East are difficult to reach and their position is still uncertain. Some of them are willing to help us, others arent sure yet. We will get them on our side with weapon delliveries. Nothing special, just some rifles and ammo to 'convince' them. I must note, that we cannot allow these unreliable tribal groups to become involved in the government and i suggest complete annihilation of their culture and hierarchy and whatever way possible. If neccasary, KHAD will offer its commandos to take care of that. I say we start with their extermination once the army reaches Kabul. MyLord?"
"Yes, Thank you Kessler, Thank you General. We may have to annihilate some of these tribes during our invasion but we should wait until we have completely obliterated the Afghan army.
Only then can we be sure the tribes will not be supplied with arms by the Afghan government. Our propaganda machine will make the Afghan generals believe most of the tribes are against them. Its not like they have any control over what happens in those mountains anyway."
Thats it I pressume? I will visit our generals in the borderarea one last time, we will see eachother after the start of the operation"
