Just an hour ago the Palace announced that the Writs had been issued by the King-Emperor for the holding of a General Election.
As is normal with Imperial elections, an opinion poll will be taken from the international community, to see which candidates they would support if given the choice.
Our analysts have summarised the four big parties and their platforms...
Imperial Party (Incumbent)
Platform:
Foreign Policy: Focus to be shifted to Regional Affairs (at expense of international ones). The Neutrality Doctrine will be strengthened. No comment on the situations in Neo-Tyr or Rotovia.
Domestic Policy: Continue Civil Liberties Expansion Program; Political Freedoms may be increased.
Economic Policy: The current policy of maintaining a Mercantilist-Protectionist economy will be maintained as is.
Defence Policy: The Imperial Military will remain a primarily defensive force, however certain areas will be adjusted to be more flexible [no comment on WMDs].
Ecclesiastical Policy: The current arrangements should not be changed
Conservative Party
Platform:
Foreign Policy: Focus to be on International Affairs, particularly in the area of expansion of Imperial interests. A weakened form of the Neutrality Doctrine will remain in place however. Neo-Tyr should be abandoned directly, but an international coalition should be formed to bring pressure to bear on the Klatch. All necessary measures should be taken to restore the Bacchus Government in Rotovia.
Domestic Policy: Civil Liberties have gone too far; they shall be curtailed. Political freedoms are satisfactory.
Economic Policy: Regulations on Foreign Investment shall be tightened in some areas (resources, media), relaxed in others (esp. retail); Imperial investment shall be promoted in other nations.
Defence Policy: The Imperial Military will be readjusted to a more aggressive force; the nuclear stockpile will be increased.
Ecclesiastical Policy: The Church will be actively promoted by the government, but not to the detriment of other faiths.
Merchant Alliance
Platform:
Foreign Policy: Focus to be shifted to a balance of regional/international affairs. International Aid should be mobilised for Neo-Tyr, but only if the Klatch agree to more openness as to what they are doing. No comment on Rotovia.
Domestic Policy: The current levels of civil liberties and political freedoms are acceptable, and should not be changed.
Economic Policy: Imperial overseas investment will be actively encouraged; certain markets will be opened to foreign investors, but others may be closed.
Defence Policy: [none released]
Ecclesiastical Policy: The current arrangement is satisfactory.
The Greens
Platform:
Foreign Policy: Focus to be shifted to regional affairs; isolationism will be a matter of public policy. Neo-Tyr should be abandoned completely. Rotovia's government should be restored, then the matter abandoned.
Domestic Policy: The current levels of civil liberties and political freedoms are good, but too limited; they should be increased (but not at the expense of public safety).
Economic Policy: Increased regulation of the primary and secondary industries to protect the environment; Green methods will be actively promoted.
Defence Policy: While deplorable because of its environmental effects, the nuclear program will continue because of the needs of defence. The Imperial Army will remain a defensive force, and those troops deployed overseas will be brought home.
Ecclesiastical Policy: The current constitutional arrangement is satisfactory, but Church involvement in secular affairs should be discouraged.
And a host of independents mostly concerned with domestic matters.
