Sanctaphrax

You will go to the General of the army, and you will order a full nuclear strike on Sanctaphrax. Go now. The words reverberated around the head of Sullis Cabrix, or Alan Middleton to the people here.
His hands were shaking as he headed up to his room, he entered it and closed the door, which slammed shut. He winced, and tried to avoid thinking about his family, back home in River-Rise.
He tried writing a letter, but his hands were shaking too much. He knocked back a shot of vodka, and sat by the computer. Ten minutes later the document was in a letter and he was leaving the building.
He walked past a bin, dropping the letter in. Unknown to him, 500 metres away, the Defence Secretary was toasting himself as he watched the live feed, collected by one his men hiding in the shadows. He watched as Alan walked calmly to the General, wondering what story he would tell him. He watched the bin as a man dressed in a council workers uniform emptied the bin, slipping the letter into his pocket and getting into the back of a waiting car.
"Sir, the Defence Secretary says to ready the army for an attack on Russian Forces. He says to arm the troops for departure in a month."
As he walked back towards the way he came the general shouted to him. He turned around and saw the general pointing a gun at him. He groaned and put his arms behind his back as two men stepped out of the shadows. The message however had already got through, it was too late....
Four hours Later
The rusted sound of an iron door echoed throughout the hallways as a man attired utterly in black made his way towards the interrogation centre. Passing through another door he entered a small control room. In front of him lay one way glass, allowing him to peer into the interrogation chamber. "Has he cracked yet?"
"He has quite the resolve General, but as yet he has refused to answer any questions."
Taking a long drag from his cigarette the General approached them mirror. "This man looks familiar.... Put the audio on, I want to hear whats going on in that room."
Almost instantly the control room filled with sound, detailing the entire interrogation, recording every word and every action.
"Matthew Stevenson your file says, but here I also have another name for you a Mr Sullis Cabrix I believe. Oh come now, its rude to silent." Agent Richards paced round the captive with a smug tone. "Now, we know what information you have been leaking in fact we know everything about you." Sitting down Richards opened a large file clearly marked "Most Secret". "Now what do we have here, ahh yes, you were born in New Sanctaphrax on June the twelth nineteen eighty. You were orphaned as a child and adopted into the special child programme that officially doe snot exist, and is not recognised by your government, but we, me and you, we know better. You were sent here five months ago to begin preliminary breech of the British government. You were given a National Security Number, British passports and oh yes, you bribed Mrs Heather's to appoint you, your..." Richard's chuckled."moddest clerk job at Fort William. Regardless of the circumstances you have been caught and will be punished by our laws, but first we want some information from you. What were your last orders, why were you attempting to breech the Magimossa files? And who are your contacts within the Empire?"
Sighing with a small amount of boredom Richard's deeply into the eyes of his captive. "I do not condone what they do here. If it were up to me, this room, this building would not exist, but it is because of the stubborn nature of agents like you that soil my name." Moving out of Carix's field of vision Richard's came back with a needle filled with a truth serum. Sliding the point into his neck Richard's, repeat his questions............
Sanctaphrax

Sullis sat there, immobile, his face showing no expression as his entire life story was read out. He had already decided, he would answer no questions, then he felt the needle pricked his neck…..
Shit, the one thing I hate more than anything, and no doubt filled with truth serum. This is a pretty awkward situation. One the one hand, I can refuse to answer, be pumped full of truth serum, and answer anyway, which I wouldn’t like because I hate needles. Or I can answer now, save myself the pain of being pricked by a needle, yet I’ll have betrayed my country and probably be given life in jail back home. Damnit.
He thought for a moment longer, then came up with an idea.
“How about we do a deal? If I betray my country, I’ll get life without parole. So if you agree to protect me, I’ll tell you everything. Whatever happens, I’ll be forced to talk to you. I’m willing to talk completely voluntarily, if you promise to protect me from my government.”
He fidgeted nervously, awaiting a response from the agent, who seemed to be considering his offer. Please, please let him accept this, I don’t even want to think about the alternatives.
Its your own stupid fault for getting caught, you moron! The other side of his mind reminded him. He groaned and put his head in his hands, his mind supplying images of a rope, and him at the end of it.
*Meanwhile in Sanctaphrax*
Oh you must be kidding me. Those were the thoughts of Cowlquape Pentephraxis as he read the message he’d received from his spy in the field. What the hell am I supposed to do now? We’ve never had anything like this before, there is no way I can inform everyone in time. He pressed the intercom button to his secretary. “Lyn, could you please get in touch with Maayan, Varis, and the rest of the ministers please. This is an emergency, do it ASAP and tell them to drop everything and get over here. Tell them the future of this nation is at stake. Thank you.”
He replaced the receiver and leaned back in his chair, massaging his temples. Outside, Lyn did as he asked, then when she’d finished she called up her family. “Mum? Hi, listen carefully, I want you to take dad and Kevin and leave this country. Yes, as soon as you possibly can. I can’t explain, just trust me, something big is happening, I don’t know what, I just know you have to get out. Do it, don’t worry about me, I’ll be safe.”
She placed the phone back in its place and sighed as she started putting together her belongings. She was just finishing up when she heard a commotion from down the hall. Oh brilliant, Varis is here. How come you always hear her before you see her? She rolled her eyes and forced a smile as she came round the corner.
“Hello General Lodd, Mr Pentephraxis will see you no….” She grimaced as Varis disappeared into the Conference Room without so much as acknowledging her presence. Good to see you too, you ungrateful bitch. The rest of the Ministers walked in, and she counted them off on her checklist then poked her head around the door. “That’s everybody sir, all accounted for.”
“That you Lyn, you’re free to go.”
She smiled and nodded as she walked back to her desk.
Cowlquape stood and addressed Sanctaphrax’s government. “I have received intel from Sullis Cabrix, our spy in Bob-Bob, that they are due to launch a full nuclear assault on us. We have no chance of surviving, I now open the floor to anyone with any suggestions.”
The Transportation Minister Oakley Gruffbark, stood up and announced in a loud voice. “We have our subways, they were designed so that they can withstand a nuclear blast. They are big, and every city has them. We can order a mass evacuation into the subways, where people will spend some time until the threat is over or we can safely move them out. We’ll equip people with gas masks as well, its our best chance, and a majority of people will receive the message.” He sat down again, Cowlquape sat there for a minute, then started applauding, the rest of the cabinet followed suit. His plan was voted on, and unanimously agreed upon.
As people were watching their favourite TV shows, a message came up on the screens, radios were broadcasting the messages, and amongst the panic, an alarm bell sounded, the one they thought they’d never hear.
“Citizens of Sanctaphrax, this is an important broadcast. We have received intelligence of a nuclear strike, we ask that you move with all haste and the minimal amount of belonging towards your nearest subway station. You will be issued with gas masks and ID cards, please have them with you at all times. Please do NOT panic, thank you and good night.”
