The Myth of Rights [Open]

“I’m proud to announce the completion of my latest book, ‘The Myth of Rights’. Each copy will be sold for a billion dollars, a worthy asset for any national leader trying to combat liberals trying to claim that their ‘rights’ are being violated,” announced a triumphant Professor Michael Walter.

This tuxedo was the finest; understandable as he was possibly the richest man in Farmina.

“The book begins at a theoretical level, discussing the inherent flaws with the very theory that human rights was built on. This also relates to the nature of rights that they are: indomitable, inherent and undeniable.”

“Next will is the expansion of rights. Initially human rights were life, liberty and property. These were reasonable things to ask, vital for society. Modern day liberals have made everything a right: smoking illicit substances, gay marriage, abortion, social security, listening to the Beach Boys, being able to stroll in the park etcetera. Each day another bizarre right is created impeding government action; as people protest a ‘violation of their rights.”

“It is bordering on absurd. Rights are now being pitted against each other. Yet by their very nature rights can’t be denied, even though they are in contradiction to each other. Next the book discusses state sovereignty and how rights damage this.”

“Then I went on to how people had no right what they were claiming rights to. Most rights claims in the modern world are that, blatant unsupported claims. What possible right does a man have to marry another man?”

“I then went on to how rights create bad policy. Then I discussed ways to justify the violation of these so called rights.”

“Then I clarify, just because I say there in no right to, lets say, free education; doesn’t mean I don’t support free education; it doesn’t mean it isn’t a great or necessary idea, it is simply not a right.”

Walter finished off, “I have already presold several copies, too bad J.L is in prison, he owes me one and a half quadrillion dollars for the books. So if anyone wants to collect their copy, buy a copy or just ask a question.”

From the Mechanist Concordiat:

This is an excellent document; although most of our civilization is based on mechanical power, we shall use 10 of the books as Evidence that Mechanical Logic is superior in every way to Humanity's many needs and wishes.

OOC: Maybe the Professor should go back to racial segregation theory; the response was far more interesting.

IC: "Good to hear the Guilds will sell my book. I'm sure that they understand the importance of this work," said the Professor to the amassed crowd, as one of his guards whispered the news.

A team of armed guards with big guns carried out the box.

"I believe I've already got a hundred billion off you," said the Professor, "These men will see the books to safety."

Lugh Rafferty read an advertizement from one of a variety of foriegn newpapers he kept tabs on, while sipping a local blend of tea. He blinked once, before speaking to noone in particular.

"What kind of b******** is this. After all, don't these lads know that there are only two rights, to love and to forgive."

With that he went back to sipping his tea and planning the affairs of Old Coraigh.
