Chapter 1 - War is Hell

“Attention! Attention! Outer hull armor on deck thirty-seven breeched. Repair crews report to deck thirty-seven immediately! All Nebuchadnezzar crews and marine teams report to your ships!”

It’d been a simple enough exercise. The GFN Argos was to slipjump to the small yellow star on the edge of imperial space and investigate strange astronavigational anomalies. The Argos was a small ship, Sentinel-class. These cruisers made up the bulk of the imperial navy, and their versatility was unquestioned.

But the even the stalwart Argos was not equipped to fend off what it had come up against.

A Druid-class carrier, a massive vessel that served as command ships for the imperial navy, had appeared out of nowhere and attacked them. Its markings were that of the Cenarion Circle, a rebel group of Asrengard that strove to dethrone Empress Azshara and take the empire for their own. The vessel was unfinished in places - it had obviously not quite completed its time in the shipyards before the Circle had hijacked it - but still more than a match for the cruiser. It had appeared and launched a full spread of Thunderbolt-120 torpedoes at the Argos, a feat that most starship captains could not pull off even if they knew the enemy was coming. Thunderbolt-120s were incredibly destructive, but targeting them was cumbersome. The Argos’ shields had held, miraculously, save for one spot.

Corporal Lilaani Silvermoon ran as hard as was possible towards the docking bays. There was only one way for a Sentinel to stand a chance against a Druid. All imperial capital ships were equipped with at least a handful of fighters and Nebuchadnezzar-class multi-purpose vessels. The freighter-sized Nebuchadnezzars could perform a multitude of tasks, but were mostly used for atmospheric insertions and boarding operations. Corporal Lilaani pounded up the plasteel ramp of her ship - nicknamed the Elune’s Grace (it’s actual designation was ARGOSNEB-03) - and strapped herself in. Leftennant Whisperwind strapped herself in next to her co-pilot.
“Alright, Corporal. By the books this time.”
“Mae govannan, Leftennant. I hear you.”
“Alright, give me full power, all pads.”

The black vessel powered up, the myriad circles over its body deploying themselves and brimming with electrical energy. They served to make the ship “hover”, a far more energy-thrifty way to maneuver through the ship and atmosphere.

“Full power, all pads.”
“Activate engines.”

The twin Lyulka-260 ion engines at the rear of the craft - the pieces of machinery that propelled the Nebuchadnezzar through space - roared to life. The ship was immediately thrust through the cavernous opening of the hangar bay and broke through the energy shield with little trouble.

“NEB-three, NEB-three, come in. This is Argos Command.”
“NEB-three here, Argos,” said Silvermoon into the comm device.
“You’re the only Neb to make it out. Your boys will have to do. Just get out there and bzzzzzt.”

The transmission was cut off as a Thunderbolt-120 slammed into the command tower of the Nebuchadnezzar’s parent vessel.

“Leftennant! We got bandits inbound! Two Raptors and a Hippogriff!” screamed the tactical officer, behind Silvermoon in the cramped “bridge”.

“Alright, Feathertree. Get back there. You’re the best gunner we’ve got. Divert power to pulse turrets A through I. All gunners to your stations. Marines? Hold onto your butts.”

Silvermoon smoothed out her blue-grey fur and clamped the oxygen mask closer to her muzzle. Though she didn’t technically need it in the controlled atmosphere of the bridge, it was required during combat. Besides, she didn’t want the Leftennant to see her gritting her canine teeth.

Shots pounded through the armored hull of the multi-purpose vessel. The fighters were in range. The manned turrets swivelled and poured out burst after burst of plasma fire into the encroaching fighters. The Raptors detonated, their triangular bodies twisting and convulsing as the burning energy disintegrated them. The Hippogriff, however, was still hot on their tail.

“How in Elune’s name did they get a Hippogriff?” screamed Silvermoon in outrage. Hippogriffs were the empire’s most advanced fighter, and had only just been put into production.

“That doesn’t matter, corporal. Do your job. Two kilometers to target, step on it!”
“Leftennant! The gunners will never hit that thing in time! We need to fight!”
“I gave you an order, Silvermoon. Gun the engines or I’ll have you relieved.”

The shrill tone of missile lock filled the bridge.

“Leftennant!”
“Hold course!”

Silvermoon couldn’t take any more. She pulled from her holster a small stun pistol.

“CORPORAL!” Whisperwind didn’t get to finish her cry of outrage. Energy surged through the lupine female, and Silvermoon picked up the slack in the controls.

“Gunners, divert energy to forward cannons, NOW!”

Silvermoon fired the maneuvering thrusters and spun the unwieldy vessel. The Hippogriff’s crescent-moon form was already bearing down on the larger craft, and Silvermoon saw the flashes of missile flares. She knew what she had to do.

She squeezed the trigger with all her might.
---

“NO!” screamed Hauptmann Earthshire from the command deck of the Argos. The Hippogriff had just disappeared in a ball of fire. Not a simulated ball of fire, but a real explosion. “END SIMULATION, NOW!”

Immediately, the damage to both capital ships repaired itself. The only real “damage” had been through the usage of holographic transmitters. The two Raptors reappeared, slightly off to port of the Aervarice’s hull.

“I want Whisperwind and Silvermoon in my office,” said the Hauptmann through gritted teeth, as he stormed off of the bridge.

---

“Just what in Elune’s name were you thinking?” screamed Earthshire at the terrified Corporal. “You KNOW that the Nebuchadnezzar’s chin guns are always kept on full power! EVEN. IN. SIMULATIONS!”

“Sir, isn’t the Aervarice scenario supposed to be unwinnable? I thought that my crew completed it?”

“At the cost of one of my best pilots’ lives! What could have come over you?”

“Sir...I will tender my resignation immediately.”

“You’ll do no such thing. Why, I’ll have you court-martialed...”

“You are right about one thing,” came an oily voice from the Hautpmann’s left. “She will not do any such thing. The dead cannot resign, now can they? No, in fact, Corporal Silvermoon is due to be promoted, as are all military personnel that die in combat.”

Silvermoon was shocked. This was it. She was going to be executed and no one would be the wiser.

“As for your pilot, I have already sent my condolences to his family. They now know he died bravely in battle, defending a dying Nebuchadnezzar from Cenarion pirates. He was outnumbered ten-to-one, and flying a training vehicle. He managed to take out six of the enemy. Quite a heroic young man, if I do say so myself.”

Hauptmann General Isha Awak stepped forward from the shadows, his dress uniform glimmering in the pale silver light.

“The corpse, once known as Corporal Lilaani Silvermoon, will come with me.” He beckoned the frightened pilot towards him, and she had no other choice but obey. As they left the speechless Earthshire’s office, he whispered in her ear.

“Now that you’re dead, we can use you and your crew to aid us in a very important mission.”
“W-what mission is that, Hauptmann General?” asked the Corporal, now nearly in tears.
“Simple, my fair child. To save the empire. You will be assigned to one of our task forces, charged with the simple task of exploration and establishing a foothold.”
“A foothold? Where?”
“Why, you don’t know? Why of course you don’t, silly girl. We’re re-taking the Milky Way galaxy!”

Chapter 2: It's a secret to everyone.

"You see, Leftennant Silvermoon, we Asrengard were not always the rulers of the Feazanthian empire." Hauptmann General Isha Awak spoke very casually as he piloted his luxury yacht towards the massive supercarrier. They had just entered the most heavily guarded sector in imperial space - the Karos Graveyard. There was only one place in the debris field that was safe for ships to pass through, and that was guarded by seven Druid-class supercarriers. If, by some miracle, any force managed to make it past those titans, the debris itself was a threat. Hidden in the dead husks that were once great starships were remote drones and automated cannons. There was enough firepower in a cubic kilometer to annihilate a small armada.
"We were once dominated by a race of short, hairless apes. They were the original Feazanthians, and they called themselves ‘hoo-muns'. They were foreigners to this galaxy, but their lust for war was unmatched. They surpassed even the savage Teropta in brutality. However, conquering our territory was not enough for them. They used our technology to return to their galaxy and forged a great alliance with the people there. For a time, we prospered despite our forced servitude," the Hauptmann General's expression darkened, and he let out a small snarl. "Until the psionic wars. The Feazanthian emperor discovered the wreck here in Karos, and it provided him with a weapon of terrible power. Though the ship itself cannot be moved, the databases it has carries information all almost all life discovered, and many forms of life that we have yet to encounter. With it, he found a way to unlock a latent gene in our people. The gene allowed us to bend reality itself. However, instead of making us stronger, it caused our race much suffering. He began forcing millions of us into service as his elite shock troops, overwhelming his enemies with our newfound powers. We became simple tools to achieve his ends. We were no more than pawns!" Awak slammed his furred fist onto the console, triggering a short burst of the ion engines. The ship quickly compensated, however, and automatically began the docking procedure.
"Legend speaks, Leftennant, of the birthplace of life."
"Elune's womb," said the now-Leftennant. It was basic knowledge taught to all schoolpups.
"Aye. The womb of the moongoddess. It is said to reside within the bosom of the universe. The supreme white, orbiting around the orb of dark."
"A spiral galaxy?"
Awak seemed pleased at this. "Your inquisitive mind will serve you well, Leftennant. Yes, our priests believe the legend to mean a spiral galaxy. The ‘bosom of the universe', as it were, is a spiral galaxy."
"You think you've found it?"
"Not us, Leftennant. Our former overlords. They once had a great portal, from this galaxy to theirs, and we believe that their galaxy may hold the key to Elune."
"So why, pray tell, do you need me? My crew?"
"You cannot tell?" Awak seemed not to be terribly concerned with her as he piloted the craft into the carrier's docking bay.
"You...spoke of retaking something. The...Milky Way?"
"Excellent, Leftennant. Continue."
"You...think this...Milky Way...is the bosom of the universe?"
"Yes, Leftennant. And it is up to people like you to command our assault fleet. We will retake the Tarsonis system first. We believe that this is a bastion of the old empire's might. The last bastion. Their portal should still be operational. Unfortunately, in the final days of the old empire, the hoo-muns destroyed the portal on this side."
Awak's lupine smile opened in a toothy grin.
"We have rebuilt it."

Fifty-six Hunter-class stealth torpedo vessels.
Twelve Druid supercarriers
Eighty-two Sentinel-class cruisers.
Never in her life had Silvermoon thought such a force in existence. Innumerable fighters and Nebuchadnezzars filled the bays of the capital ships. All for the purpose of a single invasion.

There was a great ring in the center of the Graveyard. Within the ring was a surge of energy, resembling water. A portal had been stabilized, and the fleet began moving through it.

"For Elune!" shouted Hauptmann General Awak in a wideband transmission to the fleet. "For Empress Azshara! We will invade the bosom of the universe, take it in Elune's name, and rid her reality of the hoo-mun menace!"

"Rotate ventral thrusters eighty-six degrees, give me three second burn! All ventral lancers, FIRE!"

Hauptmann Shadowleaf held tightly onto his command couch as the GFN Nekos turned and fired a deadly volley of plasma lances into the encroaching fighter squadron. The small single ships were vaporized instantly, leaving only twisted masses of molecular metal.
"This isn't even a challenge. Ready a full brace of 120s, prepare to fire at that battleship on my mark."

An ancient Citizen dreadnought had just appeared from behind the third moon of Tarsonis Prime. The Citizen, once one of the most feared vessels in the ancient Feazanthian empire, was little match for the far-smaller Sentinel's weaponry.
"Mark!"

Six torpedoes fired from the cruiser and struck the Citizen with chilling effectiveness. The tubular ship boiled and convulsed as internal explosions ripped through it. An engine pylon was stripped away and went tumbling towards the Nekos, but glanced harmlessly off the shield.

"Agammagon, this is Nekos. We're running out of targets here."
"Roger, Nekos. Nice shot on that old hunk of junk, by the way."
"Ha! A schoolpup could've made that shot. This is too easy."

---

"Hauptmann General, we're recieving a transmission from the surface of Tarsonis Prime."
"Put it through."

The orb in front of Awak revealed the form of a young human male, looking in his early thirties, and covered in dirt.
"This is Commander O'Neil of the Feazanthian Empire. Identify yourself!"
Awak chuckled as he pressed his face to the orb.
"This is Hauptmann General Isha Awak of the real Feazanthian Empire. You, Commander, have been found in violation of imperial code, which states that no hoo-mun may claim to be of the Feazanthian empire, nor may they seek dominance over Feazanthian territory. For this, you and your men will be put to the flame."
"What? You can't possi-"
The man was cut off as Awak gave the command to fire a single torpedo at the source of the transmission. Moments later, a bright flash on the planet's surface let the crew know that the deadly missile had hit.

"Begin deployment of ground forces. Kill anything that isn't fur-covered. I want this system clean of hoo-mun infestation by the end of the week."

Please note: IC responses are greatly appreciated. This is the last bastion of Feazanthian human-controlled power in the universe. In essence, the Feazanthian empire that you all knew is about to be destroyed.

And yes, this is genocide against humans.

Though the Thinker Council considers all mortal races to be lesser than the Rupil, it condemns such violent actions. We believe that such action is unecessary, and will be dealt with. Troops are already en route to protect the remaining humans. We offer the option of peaceful relocation to one of our colony worlds as an alternative to genocide.

Planet Solomon, Spoot System, Skeelzanian Sternreich

She had to give them credit. Whatever the shortcomings the Skeelzanian Intelligence Ministry possessed, they still kept a very good tab on xenoaffairs. And things did seem to be heating up lately. First that dastardly inter-breeding in Green Suns, and now some sort of extra-galactic invasion…Arkady sighed, grinding out her cigarette in the ashtray. “Go over the situation again, count.”

The head of SIM flipped back to the first page of his report. “Three days ago we noted a large rise in activity in the Feazanthian Empire, which has been in a state of isolation for a good number of years. Soon our monitoring of the com-channels picked up distress calls from their capital system of Tarsonis. Beings of extra-galactic origin had invaded and were in the process of overrunning their last orbital defenses. The Feazanthian ships were no match apparently.”

A man grunted down the table. “No surprise their. The Feazes couldn’t build a decent warship for the life of them.” The Empress glowered at him. “Silence, Admiral. Count, you may continue.”

“Thank you, my lady. As I was saying, the Xenos have already destroyed the Feazanthian fleet and are probably already on the planet. The Feazanthian Empire is on the verge of collapse, and we have no reason to believe the invaders will stop there. Number of ships, and their size, seems to indicate an invasion of much wider scale.”

“Pan-galactic?”

“Possibly, my lady. It’s too soon to tell. We aren’t even sure what kind of xeno they are.”

Arkady leaned back in her chair, going over scenarios in her head. The Feazanthians were an ESUS member, located along the Galactic fringe. Despite the Grand Admiral’s comment, they could and did build large numbers of warships. Also did some experimenting in wormhole technology, if her history lessons were correct. If the aliens succeeded in establishing a beachhead, they could use the Feazanthian dock facilities to rapidly expand their forces…or bring more from somewhere else.

It was decided. Standing up from her seat, the Skeelzanian Empress addressed the table. “It is clear to me that, wherever these xenos come from, they cannot be allowed to annex the Feazanthian Empire. Such an action would pose a grave strategic threat to Skeelzania, as well as humanity as a whole. Furthermore, we are by treaty required to lend assistance to Feazanthia under ESUS guidelines. I want a preliminary plan on my desk within 24 hours and its execution within forty-eight. You are dismissed.”

“Conquest this is Gideon Control, all hookups are disconnected and you are free to depart.”

“Roger Gideon, we will begin withdrawal immediately. Sieg Skeelz.”

“Sieg Skeelz Conquest.”

Lewis Carnelian watched the orbital station slowly drift away from his massive ship. Gideon Station had always seemed like a large warren when he was onboard, but from the bridge of the 3,340 meter Conquest and Empire it simply seemed miniscule. Leaning over the handrail surrounding the control pit he surveyed the scene. Technicians were busy calling out the distance between the ship and nearby objects, while others were ticking off the kilometers until they were free of Solomon’s gravity well. Nodding contently, he stepped back from the rail and faced his lieutenant.

“The bridge is yours Model. You are to proceed to the preset jump coordinates and rendevous with the fleet. I will be in my cabin.”

“Yes sir.”

*** *** ***

Several hundred kilometers away another Carnelian stood on the bridge, this ones eyes playing over the Empire class dreadnought. Erik had no reason to be jealous, Lewis was his senior by both age and experience, but how could one not be? Here he was in this tin can of a cruiser while his brother commanded the largest ship in Skeelzanian space, and with no less than two (two by Spoot!) planet killing weapons. That plasma-wave cannon could incinerate his ship in a single shot. Still, it probably steers like a Brahmin…

A slim hand slid over his right shoulder, making him jump a little. “Is that your brother’s ship?”

“You shouldn’t be here. Bad etiquette. The crew will talk.”

“Like a commanding officer has never slept with one of his subordinates.”

“The subordinate isn’t often a member of the Royal Family.” Erik glanced sideways at Myra, youngest of the three Imperial children. “And we all know how dangerous you Skeelzot women are.”

She gave a small laugh and withdrew her hand, though she remained in place. “So my mother killed her brother and my uncle in a civil war that split the nation in two, what of it? Dmitri was a drug-addled brute who conspired with the gnomes.”

Erik gave a noncommittal grunt. “Trying to get your CO to speak treason is not going to help you rise in the naval hierarchy. And as your CO I am ordering you to return to your post in the pilot’s berth, we’ll be making a hyperjump soon.”

“Right away, sir.” Myra snapped off a salute, winked, and sauntered off the bridge. Erik slowly let himself exhale, noticing that the rest of the bridge crew had been adverting their eyes. Damn that girl. “Well, what are you waiting for?” he barked. “Jump is in 24 minutes, and I can see that we’re falling out of position, and I’ll be damned if you idiots smash us into a sun! Get to work!”

Tarsonis System, Old Feazanthian Empire

The Skeelzanian fleet tore out of hyerpsace, each ship erupting from its own microstar as it exited the swirling dimension back into real space. Engines flared to life as the task force began to fall back into formation, thrown off by the long jump from Solomon. Around five-dozen capital ships of various types were now advancing through the inky darkness towards the planet of Tarsonis Prime, scanners actively searching for an enemy to engage.

The heart of the fleet was, obviously, the Empire and Conquest dreadnought. She was flanked by 8 Yavuz class battlecruisers, with four Tiamat carriers making up the remainder of the fleet core. 18 Ahzi Dahaki heavy cruisers supported by 30 frigates made up the rest. And countless smallcraft, Uhu fighters and Zag gunboats, were now deploying to act as an advanced screen.

From the bridge of the Conquest Admiral Lewis Carnelian oversaw the entire operation. This seemed as good a time as ever to rebreif his command. “Attention Skeelzanian Battle-group Omicron, this is your Admiral speaking. I’m sure you all know the plan but just to be sure I’m going over it again. Somewhere in this system there’s a fleet of xenos hell-bent on gaining a foothold in this galaxy. For obvious reasons we cannot allow this to happen. All ships will proceed in formation until contact is made with the enemy. Ships of unidentified origin are to be destroyed immediately. All others are to be ordered to surrender and be boarded. Once space superiority is achieved reinforcements will be dispatched, and we can begin planetary mop-up. Proceed and Sieg Skeelz.”

It was three days after the initial invasion of Tarsonis, and already the capital world had been taken. The rookie human soldiers had been no match against the seasoned Asrengarde veterans. What was more, the fleet had secured myriad shipyards scattered throughout the system. Though primitive by modern standards, they could quickly be retrofitted.

Outskirts of Tarsonis System, Old Feazanthian Empire

An ancient Progenitor-class battlecruiser made surprising speed for a vessel that large. It managed to slip past a pair of large asteroids just as the torpedoes chasing it rammed into the hunks of rock. It turned its quad-plasma turrets towards the advancing (yet invisible) enemy and fired. The shots obviously went far wide, for not even a shield hit was visible. Off to the port of the Progenitor, four torpedoes came out of seemingly empty space. Another pair of torpedoes came from the Progenitor's starboard side. The six total torpedoes rammed the old capital ship at roughly the same time, nearly vaporizing it on contact. What was left went spinning off uselessly into the dark, becoming yet another piece of junk in the battlefield. The few escape pods that made it off the ship were then systematically eliminated by ruby-red beams that, like the torpedoes, seemingly came out of nowhere.

“Energy signatures off the starboard bow. Consistent with large-scale torpedo detonations.”

“On screen.” The vidscreen of the Conquest focused just in time to catch the death of the Progenitor, the ship’s explosion lighting up the bridge even though there were no obvious attacks. Lewis frowned as the energy beams made short work of the ill-fated cruiser’s escape pods. “Looks like we have some cloakers. Direct ECCM scans to that area, see if we can pick up anything. Order the cruisers to prepare for a fire sweep; if there’s anything hiding there we’ll find it.”

As soon as they got the word the Ahzi Dahaki cruisers began warming up their forward batteries. Skeelzanian sensors were average at best, leading naval strategists to develop some rather unorthodox methods for detecting cloaked vessels over the years. One of these was to simply plaster a given area of space with fire.

“All cruisers reporting ‘ready’, sir.”

“Begin sweep within given coordinates.”

The cruisers, each with eight forward-firing turrets, immediately poured beam fire into the probably area of enemy habitation. Roughly ten minutes had passed since the last life-pod was destroyed, but eighteen cruisers could blanket a pretty large area. Interference from the particle beams temporarily blacked out the Conquest’s sensors, leaving the Admiral unsure if they had struck anything.

Outskirts of Tarsonis System, Old Feazanthian Empire: 65 MSK(130 lightseconds) from Skeelzania Battlegroup

It arrived with the subtle suddeness characteristic of Kanuckistani displacers, four and a half kilometers of warship simply there at some undefinible instant, where there had been nothing a moment befor.

As sensors came alive, scouring the area with active scans intense enough to boil paint, her IFF painted her the KAGV Suicidal Audacity; a dreadnaught/carrier hybrid of the Kanuckistani Adventurers' Guild.

Sheilds and weapons on warm standby, she turned her prow in-system with all the speed and grace of a lumbering behemoth as something cought her gaze; the massive twin spinal cannons mounted over-under therein coming to face the wreckage of the Feazanthian dreadnaught, the light of whose destruction was just reaching the distant Audacity.

Her crew had paid for excitment. It apeared they were abough to get a small war's worth.

They had indeed hit something. One of the Hunters, the modern version of one of ancient Terra's submersible water craft, had stayed behind the group to sweep the area for any more escape pods. What the destroyer had not expected was a whole fleet to come out of nowhere and begin firing on it. Their particle beams impacted on the Hunter's shields, weakening them substantially and forcing its active cloak to dissipate. The ship that had been revealed bared a glancing resemblance to a Citizen dreadnought. Its coloring resembled the once-mighty vessel, and it was only slightly smaller, but that was where the resemblance ended. Its engine pylons were far, far smaller. More compact and efficient. Its front section was like a giant, rounded cone that had been cut off midway down one side and notched. To each side of this half dome were squarish bays that housed what appeared to be internal rotary torpedo launchers. More such torpedo launchers dotted both sides of the vessel's superstructure. Rings, giant and cut off near the bottom like the nose cone, were positioned at 1/3 and 2/3s down the superstructure. These rings were brimming with energy, obviously the source of the cloaking field.

The destroyer, the GFN Arxyamari turned towards the cruisers and shunted more power to its shielding. Torpedoes clicked into place inside the rotary launchers, and the broadside tubes opened their hatches.

A wide-beam transmission was sent out to the Skeelzanian fleet as the destroer probed the vessels, trying to identify them from the old empire's records.

"This is the Galactic Feazanthian Naval vessel Arxyamari. You are trespassing in Imperial Feazanthian space and have fired on a Feazanthian vessel. Leave now before the Feazanthian Empire is forced to take hostile action against you. This is your last warning."

A match was made. The vessel's markings were identified as Skeelzanian, though the design was unknown to the old empire's records. Still, the records held what the old empire knew of Skeelzanian weapons and armor schematics. There were weaknesses...weaknesses that could be exploited.

The Imperial Palace, Capital of the Human Empire, Terra.

The Aide's footsteps sounded like a galloping horse as he ran through the Imperial Palace, seeking to bring urgent news to the Emperor, he who sits on his throne of gold. The young man's chest heaved as he threw open the great doors of the throne room, his heart racing to keep up with him. The poor man's voice came out slowly, punctuated by panting.

"Most revered Emperor. Our long range seers have uncovered a turn of events most dire. The valiant men and women of Feazanthia are being viciously slaughtered by a race of vulpine alien abominations."

The Emperor did not look altogether human himself, from his emaciated limbs, pale skin, to his milky white and cataract laced eyes, there was something distinctly otherworldly about him. Of course, he has been alive far longer than any before, and age has taken its toll.

"I require time to meditate on this, leave me. I shall call when I have reached a decision." The Emperor's voice had an air of finality mixed with a healthy dose of disdain to it.

"Brothers, I have called your minds hither for a reason. By now, you have no doubt heard of the invasion of Feazanthia by a race of filthy Xenos. What you probably don't know is that these...creatures are systematically purging the humans of Feazanthia. Obviously, we cannot allow this. I am open to suggestions on how to best proceed." The Emperor's voice cut through the still air of the throne room as his mind was elsewhere, communing with the rest of the Brotherhood, the guiding force behind the Empire.

One of the more vocal Brothers, Lucius broke the cold silence first. "My Emperor, we hardly know anything of these Xenos. We cannot afford to go off half-cocked. What if these Xenos prove to be more powerful than they appear at first glance?"

"Of course. We all know how likely that is. Xenos of all varieties are weak, fit only as slaves." Brother Julius chimed in. He had exterminated innumerable alien races across the universe, and but one had earned his respect.

"And what if you're wrong? Are you prepared to take that risk?" Lucius shot back.

"They're Xenos! Wha-"

"Brothers, this pointless bickering is getting us nowhere. Emperor, give me a destroyer and I will go to Feazanthia personally to deal with this Xeno incursion." This new voice came from Brother Marcus, one of the oldest and most respected of the Brotherhood.

The Emperor's laugh came out as more of a harsh, hacking cough. "I can see right through you, old friend. You want to go back to war. I can see it in your ancient and stolen eyes. But no matter. You have my leave. I shall arrange for the ISV Adjudicator to pick you up. This gathering is adjourned. May the Lord of Man watch over us."

******

Marcus settled into the flag quarters of the Adjudicator, setting up his connection to the Imperial Palace. The Emperor would no doubt want to have frequent status reports. Plus...

Suddenly Marcus' personal datapad chirped. He had a waiting videolink. It was Star-Captain Rand, commander of the Adjudicator. "General Marcus, sir. We are preparing to drop out of quasi-space now. Please report to the bridge."

******

Marcus' heels clicked harshly on the metal floor as he walked towards the bridge, crewman quietly yielding and moving away when the cloaked and silent figure approached them like the reaper, only to pass them by on its way to the bridge.

"Star-Captain Rand, report." Marcus said, announcing his presence and asserting his authority with one fluid phrase.

"General, we are about to exit Quasi-Space. We're exiting near the edge of the system, hopefully we'll be able to get some information on these Xenos with the long range sensors before we are detected." Rand replied, leaving his pride at the proverbial door. Deep down, he hated having his command subverted by a higher up, but there was nothing he could do.

"Star-Captain, it is unlikely that we will be able to remain undetected for long. I want to make best use of the time we *do* have. Intelligence, begin active scanning procedures as soon as we exit Quasi-Space. I want to know what I am up against." Marcus barked in a half mocking and half assertive tone that somehow left no doubt that he was the top dog on the Adjudicator, at least for the time being.

******

A tiny green pinpoint of light, easily lost amongst the stars opened and expanded into a hellish green portal which spit out the Adjudicator like a spent sunflower seed.

Probing the inky blackness of space with its active sensors, the ship began to search the system for its prey...

OOC: Don't feel bad about the "B" classification. Thus far, the only person I've seen who's managed an "A" is Central Facehuggeria :P

Feazanthia. A nation that had been watched by the Former Xenonian Empire for thousands of years. In it's galaxy-spanning days, the Xenonians had kept eyes on many species, the wolfish Asrengarde being on of them. Xenonian peopel had watched the amusing species propagate, grow and learn, expanding their own territory. However, the two had never met, although Xenonier had observed readily. The Feazanthian's, although realativly advanced, were deemed a ripe target for annhiliation and colonisation.

Those however, were the days of the Xenonian Empire, before the Grishnaki, and before the Protectorate. And considering what the Feazanthians were doing, this meant action. And fast.

Bridge of The "Plaux rei" Valkyrie Cruiser.

The Bridge was humming with activity. Orders had been drawn up, plans made. The new attackers upon Feazanthia, although not currently identified yet, were suspected as being the Asrengarde. A powerful species, but technologically inferior, as every race in the Galaxy was. They were masscaring humans, left, right and center. By calculating the time period the enemy had lay dormant, destroyed ships, and combat reports, Xenonian probes formed an approximation of the enemy ship numbers.

100+ ships (Capital size) of B class danger level.

As such, something would have to be done about the genocide. Captains everywhere we begging for the chance to take action, but it was the Distinguished Captain "Ka", who was given the chance. Ka was waiting for the ships to get ready, having already approximated what he would have.

The Transmission arrived through his neural-link.

Ka, you're ready to go. The Fleet we have consists of your own Cruiser, Three Destroyers, and the appropriate escorts. I believe it should be Twelve Frigates, and 55 Strikecraft squadrons (That would be 15 gunship, 7 in each wing, 40 Interceptors, 7 in each wing) Move out, find the enemy, and ascertain the correct responce. If nesscary, we have a fleet that can increase your force, by a factor of 1.5. Good luck and move out!

- Captain Dayimo Tendersen.

After receiving the message, Xenonian ships immediately Jumped to their designated entry point. Their sensors, however, pinged the location of Central Facehuggeria vessel. Such a warship, destroyer size was the equal of Xenonian Miaks. Such a vessel could be a boon, or an extremely dangerous problem, depending on what they were after. Hailing the Vessel, Ka questioned it's intentions, and if they would eager to combine forces, all the while keeping his ships hidden beneath a cloaking field.

Another OOC: Central Facehuggeria, you planning to send any backup? Our ships may be uber, but we can't beat being outnumbered nearly 15 to one. And here we are, meeting as you said we would. Four Destroyers and a Cruiser versus an entire Fleet. YEAH!

"This is the Galactic Feazanthian Naval vessel Arxyamari. You are trespassing in Imperial Feazanthian space and have fired on a Feazanthian vessel. Leave now before the Feazanthian Empire is forced to take hostile action against you. This is your last warning."

Model and Carnelian listened to the message silently, their faces set. The only sound on the bridge was the crackle of the intercom and the slight hum of machines. Slowly the Admiral began to speak. “Arxyamar this is the Conquest and Empire of the Skeelzanian Sternreich. Your make and model are inconsistent with any known Feazanthian warship, as is your IFF. Your threats and hostile mission only confirm our initial suspicion: you are a warship of alien origin taking part in the genocide of humans within the Feazanthian Empire. By order of the Empress Arkady the First I hereby denounce you as a villain and murderer of humans. All ships, open fire.”

The Conquest itself was the first ship to respond, its massive lance batteries zeroing in on the destroyer and unleashing waves of hyper-excited particles at the speed of light. The rest of the fleet followed suit, filling the darkness with spears of light and a sizeable cloud of missiles. The fleet’s fighter craft were held in reserve, mostly to keep them out of the capital ship’s line of fire.

Admiral Carnelian permitted himself a grim smile as he watched the fusillade speed towards the hapless destroyer. Bringing overwhelming firepower to bear on a single ship was one of the joys of naval command he thought, before being interrupted by Intel. “Sir, there’s a Kanuckistani dreadnought over two light minutes away. Shall we hail them?”

“Affirmative Intel. Request that they disclose their mission and, if favorable, offer our assistance.”

In orbit above Tarsonis Prime, New Feazanthian Empire (conquered territory)

There was a steady clunk-clunk-clunk as the Shujun's paws thudded against the thick metal walkway. The report had come in early that morning, and she didn't have time to put the proper pawpads on. Thus, her hindpaws hurt like Elune's fire.

However, that didn't matter.

"Hauptmann General! This just in from the Omicron!"

Hauptmann General Isha Awak took the membrane-like paper from the aide's forepaw. He noticed her lack of suitable clothing and chucked a bag at her.
"Apply your pawpads, Shujun. I'll have no injuries aboard this vessel on my watch. Now, what is so important?"
"Sir!" cried the young enlisted officer. "Reports from the periphery confirm that the Aryxamari has been destroyed!"
"Pity," said the Admiral-equivalent, unconcerned. "She was a fine vessel, but due for scrapping. I'll have the Kommandant send my regards to the families. Send a Sentinel to go clean up the asteroid that did this." He began to wander off, mumbling something about the hoo-muns and their inability to even keep their own system clean of debris.
"Sir!" cried the Shujun. "It wasn't an asteroid! The Aryxamari was destroyed in ship-to-ship combat!"

At this, the Hauptmann General stopped. He didn't turn around, however, but a slight edge entered his voice.

"That is impossible, Shujun. No vessel in the old empire's arsenal could come close to matching one of ours, even one as old as the Aryxamari. Your sources better get their facts strai-"

"Sir! Two enemy fleets have entered the outskirts of the Tarsonis system! One has been positively identified as Skeelzanian. The other is unknown to the records."

At this, the Hauptmann turned. Light patches were beginning to show in his blue-grey fur. He was an impressive male - broad shouldered and quite muscular. No doubt he had been the downfall of many a young female officer trying to seek advancement through exploits of the loin.

"There's more, isn't there," it wasn't a question, but a statement.

"A Kanuckistani dreadnought has also become visible, along with a Central Facehuggarian destroyer. So far, the dreadnought has yet to move, but the destroyer is pinging away with active sensors."

Awak turned from the officer then. He stared out past the plasteel window to the orbital facilities of Tarsonis Prime. There, the wormhole generator (found to be called a "Stargate" by the old Tarsonis records), sat in quiet operation. Ships would come through the ring every so often; supply ships and smaller warships already dotted the great capital ships of the task force. Beyond the ring was the great fleet that he had assembled. It had taken doing - there were rumors that was forced to bed the Empress herself before she would allow him to lead the fleet - but his dreams were coming to fruition. A wide grin split to aged wolf's face. His canine teeth bared, gleaming in the pale light of the yellow sun. With a twitch of his head, he activated a commlink.

"This is Hauptmann General Isha Awak. All ships are to proceed immediately to combat formation delta. All hands to battlestations, priority alert status."

He deactivated the commlink and turned back to the Shujun. He would, of course, have to wipe her memory before this was over. No one could know that the great Hauptmann General had been mistaken about the Aryxamari's demise. A pity, he thought. She wasn't that bad looking. Still, there was time before the enemy fleet could possibly arrive. His grin widened.
"Good. I was starting to get bored. Shooting murlocs in a barrel is one thing. Taking in a bloodfin snapper? We shall see."

He advanced on the uneasy female officer.

Yes...not bad at all.

"General, we're picking up something at the other end of the system, around Tarsonis Prime. Strange energy readings consistent with wormhole generation or similar technology, as well as a small fleet of Xeno warships. They're cloaked, so we can only barely make them out at this range." The sensor operator was trembling, this was his first combat assignment. His report was redundant, for the ship's primary mind, Lelan had already transferred the relevant information straight to Marcus' mind.

"Very good. Take us in closer, flank speed. I am *not* going to let these Xenos take more human lives if I can possibly avoid it. Stop when we reach optimum combat range and begin probing fire on the Xeno ships, concentrating on the smaller ones first. Comms, open a channel. I will give these wretched creatures one chance to surrender." Marcus' vast experience colored his orders, he knew that optimum combat range for an Imperial Warship was well out of range of most other races' weaponry. But still, these aliens were extragalactic and there was no telling what sort of tricks they may have up their furry sleeves.

"Your channel is open, General."

"Attention unknown Xenos, this is Star-General Marcus of the Human Empire. You have violated human space and wantonly attacked human troops. Surrender now and I shall allow your race to survive as servants to the humans you have so readily slaughtered in repayment of your debt. Refuse and be expunged." Marcus' voice was loud, regal, and commanding. It said that he meant business and spoke of a man who could back up his threats.

"General Marcus, surely you don't expect them to actually surrender, do you?" Star-Captain Rand asked once the channel to the enemy was closed.

"No, no I don't. But etiquette demands that I offer them a chance to surrender. If they do not, that is their problem and it only clears us to begin exterminating them en masse." Marcus' reply was old, tired. He did not relish being second guessed by his underlings, much as the Star-Captain must not have relished having control of his ship usurped.

******

The Adjudicator fired its engines and sped towards the planet, active sensors pinging away and the trio of minds in its core tagging each contact, evaluating its threat and forming targeting solutions in less time than it takes for the human mind to form a simple word.

A tithe of PPB microbursters opened up on the ‘Feazanthian’ ships, their power set to it’s absolute lowest, meant to probe reactions and damage resistance, nothing more. They were just opening shots. But perhaps the Xenos would think that to be the extent of the Imperial vessel's power. Or perhaps not.

OOC: A few things, Feazanthia, this isn't a normal Facehuggerian destroyer you're facing. There have been some changes recently, mainly with my fleet adopting a very Kanuckistani doctrine, with a tiny number of super-powerful ships.

Second, optimum range for my warships is between thirty light seconds and one light minute, just so you know. Any closer and the ship becomes 'vulnerable' to most other races' long range weaponry, and any further and accuracy degrades.

Xenoier, my ships are designed to fight when grossly outnumbered. They do less spectacularly against more quality oriented fleets, like yours or Kanuckistan's. So no, I won't be deploying any backup. But given the sheer power of an Adjudicator class heavy destroyer like this one, I shouldn't need to. :) Of course, OOCly I realize that Feazanthia wants to have this takeover succeed, so my ship will likely pull out at some point to facilitate that. After I’ve killed off a bunch of them and convinced the aliens that mass extermination of human beings is not acceptable.

The Skeelzanian fleet thundered past the molten ruins of the Arxyamar, plowing through the asteroid field towards Tarsonis Prime. Shields were set to full, and PD beams blasted any asteroid that dared to get close enough. On board the Conquest, Admiral Carnelian pondered the situation. Officially, this was a recon in force against Tarsonis Prime and any ships that might be there. Judging by the amount two things would happen. If enemy forces were inferior his battle group would crush them, then send for transports bearing thousands of Skeelzanian ground troops. If resistance proved unexpectedly heavy, reinforcements would be sent, and eventually transports. Retreat did not cross his mind.

Suddenly they were through the field, active sensors immediately pinging away madly. Nothing was on the screen, yet, but the xenos did have some cloaking technology. Still they better have some fighter protection. The order was given, and soon five squadrons of Uhu fighters were streaking out of the Tiamat carriers, forming into a screening force for the fleet. The capital ships continued to advance in much the same fashion as before; a formidable wave of endor armor-encased death aiming straight for Tarsonis.

The fighters were nearly deployed when the light from the Facehuggerian barrage reached them. A few seconds later sensors reported a hit, the Facehuggerian destroyer. “Signal that warship,” ordered Carnelian. Find out if it sees anything, and give them what little information we’ve gleaned from that picket ship.”

OOC: Skeelzanian squadrons have 24 craft each. Also I didn't really learn anything from the Arxyamar, other than that they have cloaking devices.

OOC: Good luck CF. Good luck indeed.

Ka Let his fleet hover outside the area of the battle, their weapons aquiring all Feazanthian vessels. The Xenonian warships had extreme ranged capabilities, and by watching the the other possible allies, a plan came into fruitition.

The Xenonian fleet would remain at range, pounding the Feazanthians with their superior long range firepower. Then, when one of the forces attacking directly was forced to withdraw, the Xenonians could plug the gap and plunge into the melee. The Kanuskistan Dreadnought, and Central Facehuggerian Destroyer were both worth watching. They were larger than the Xenonian vessels, and were said to almost equal the Xenonian fleets in potency, their larger size matching up with the Advanced Xenonian ships. This would prove interesting.

Their weapons were armed, and they moved close, broadcasting their plan. Raptr Interceptors and Gunships formed into defensive formations around the fleet, which was arranged into an X shape, The Heavy Cruiser at the center. To advance into such firepower would be suicide.

They waited for combat, all the while counting down the time until reinforcements - overwhelming reinforcements, would arrive. Judging by the strength of the enemy fleet, he was not suprised to find that his request for another Heavy Cruiser, and even more Destroyers, had been granted. His entire fleet, Two Heavy Cruisers, 12 Miaks, and 50-60 Frigates would arrive. Although a small fleet, it said something about their firepower and strength that this small fleet was trusted with the defence of over 50 systems, despite the war with the Grishnaki.

Computers had already tabled up the plausible combat results.

OOC-These aren't standard Feazanthian craft we're talking about either, in terms of power. Remember, the Citizen was one of the more powerful vessels in the ESUS fleet in its time. A ship about 3/4s its size vaporized it. The Asrengarde were the techies of the old empire, so these new ships are quite advanced.

Just don't expect to walk all over them.

IC

"Minimal damage to primary shielding. Either that's the best they can do, or that was a warning shot."
"We can't take a chance. Destroy that ship now, before they can get another shot off. All tubes loaded, prepare to fire on my mark."

Awak's emerald eyes narrowed as the Facehuggarian destroyer continued to advance.
"Sir, all ships report that they have a firing solution."
"Begin widebeam transmission to all alien vessels."

Awak cleared his throat as the officer did as he was told, and then began speaking.

"This Facehuggarian vessel has fired on Feazanthian starships inside Feazanthian territory. Know that, from this day forward, the Feazanthian empire is no longer bound by any treaties or agreements made before. We are the new Feazanthia, and we will no longer suffer the indignation that these pale apes put on us. Let this vessel be an example. All ships, open fire."

More than a hundered capital ships let loose volleys of heavy torpedoes at the Facehuggarian destroyer. It was enough firepower to boil all life from the face of a planet. As if that wasn't enough, fighters and bombers swarmed out of the Druids and Sentinels.

OOC:
Please note that the KAGV Suicidal Audacity is an Adventurers' Guild vessel, and thus basicly a semi-independent Mercenary/Vigilanti ship, and in turn a free agent; it's not a Kanuckistani military ship, and not bound by the alliances and priorities of it's home nation.

It's also, at present, a unique design, and totally unlike anything feilded by the High Gaurd.

Also CF, how can you claim accuracy at those ranges? The time it takes even lightspeed weapons to reach their targets imposes a practical maximum well below that, unless you're firing at a near-stationary target or extreamly sluggish capship.

IC:

Captain Samantha 'Lucky Jack' Jackson - or, atleast, her local alpha Avatar - reclined upon the golden throne centeral within the bridge of her KAGV Suicidal Audacity ship-self; a tangent of her mind - one of thousands, for Distributed Sentients were masters of multitasking by necesity - listening to the varrious conferences of strikecraft owners as they debated action. Another examining sensor telemetry as she herself debated the same.

Her buxom, vulpine form shifted as a report of the Skeelzanian hail came in needlessly from the manual comm station; a moment of consideration followed, and a command to her helmsman then followed; her reply, in the form of a powerful, system-wide general broadcast, would then follow.

-----------------

With a flicker of chance, the KAGV Suicidal Audacity was gone; her four and a half kilometer bulk hovering 65 MSK above Tarsonis' northern pole the very instant of her departure; barrier feilds suddenly raised, her weapons still at standby, she once more began scouring space with her blindingly powerful active sensors - their design a well-honed mix of sophistication and unadulterated brute force.

Emmissions lapsed, then, some scant seconds after her arrival, and even as her FTLi began deploying to their preset 10 MSK radius, a broadcast bagan.

"This is Captain Samantha Jackson, commander and avatar of the Kanuckistani Adventurers' Guild Vessel Suicidal Audacity," the scantily clad fox woman began in a sultry soprano, dressed in a curious mix of mirror-polished NE-silver armour plate, sheer silks, and black leather that somehow managed to look elegant rather than ridiculous, while leaving little to the imagination, "We are conducting independent maneuvers with an eye towards possible mercenary or vigilanti actions. Please be aware that we are free agents not affiliated with our native militaries, and our actions do not reflect our government's stance or opinions. Our strikecraft commanders and marine compliment are equally free agents, and their actions do not necessarily reflect the stance of this vessel or their peers. We do, however, retain governmental protection against unprovoked agression. Suicidal Audacity out."

OOC: Kanuckistan, at midrange, like this engagement, my weapons typically take on the form of a near cee ship guided energy pulse or 'torpedo'. Only at closer ranges do they switch over to the continuous beams, for the most part. Of course my most powerful weapons tend to have much shorter ranges, but I digress.

Feazanthia, I'm not saying my ship will walk all over yours, I'm just saying that I only have twelve capital ships of the line (out of 36 total warships bigger than 100 meters,) so they're each highly powerful. The only ships which I know for a fact can overpower mine are Kanuckistani ships of the line.

Now that that OOC crap is out of the way;

IC:

The Adjudicator's point defense nodes turned instantly and began tracking the incoming torpedoes, thousands of the small turrets throwing up a literal wall of fire against the fast incoming projectiles once they were close enough. Everything from simple point defense lasers to tiny yet quick railgun slugs to power hungry gluon blasts opened up on the Feazanthian torpedoes. Those that managed to run the gauntlet impacted relatively ineffectively against the shields.

“Standard shields down to ninety eight percent, holding steady. Sir, was that the best they’ve got?” One of the bridge crew asked, incredulously.

“Doubtful. They’re just testing us, as we did with them.” Marcus replied, his mind deep in thought elsewhere.

A moment of silence passed, punctuated only by the steady beeps and similar sounds present in any warship.

”I want fighters launched and a picket line established. There’s no telling what else those alien fiends will do next, I’d rather not be caught with our pants down and have to rely upon point defenses again.”

******
Moments later;

“General, we’re picking up a transmission from the Skeelzanians. They want to know if we see anything, and they are sending us the information they have gleaned on the Xeno threat. I’m linking it to your net now.”

“Thank you. I…I…See. This is interesting. I want you to send all our data on the enemy locations to the Skeelzanians. Of course, they’re only rough estimates based on confirmed tags and sensor ghosts, but every little bit helps.” Marcus replied as the meager amount of information about his enemy trickled into his mind. It was wholly insufficient to begin planning a military campaign against them, given their guile.

******

”Attention all pilots, please report to the launch bay, this is not a drill! Repeat, this is not a drill!”

Flight Officer Kenzie hopped out of his cot with a start and a thud, hitting his head on the bulkhead as rushed to get his uniform on and get to his fighter. Running through the halls with another group of pilots, Kenzie finally reached the main launch bay.

“Ahh…There’s my baby. Are you ready, Sandy?”

”Affirmative. The techs gave my hull a quick look over, I’m ready to launch when you are.”

Kenzie strapped himself into the padded couch of his fighter.

”All pilots, this is the XO. The General wants you to run a picket for the Adjudicator and keep any Xeno fighters or torpedoes away. No playing hero or hotrodding. I want this to be a by the book picket, so that means no playing chicken or other snark like that. Oh and Kenzie? Pay more attention to the ship you’re defending than your kill count, okay? If you perform as poorly today as you do in the sims, you better hope the Xenos kill you. If they don’t, I will!”

“Same as he always is, eh? I’ve charged the shields and weapons. We’re good to go.” Sandy commented once the XO’s transmission was over.

Kenzie’s fighter fluttered for a moment as the engine flared, propelling his fighter out of the bay with a start and an acceleration that would have left Kenzie splattered across his canopy had the inertial nullifiers been broken.

“This is General Marcus to all pilots. Keep an eye out for cloaked enemy ships. Marcus out…”

******

The Adjudicator advanced cautiously through the Tarsonis system, getting closer to its prey so that it may detect and target them more clearly.

“Star-Captain, bring the weapons back to full power. As soon as sensors identify a contact as enemy, I want it blasted. Turn fire control over to the AIs, we’ll only have a few chances before we lose our prey…”

OOC: This will be the first time we ever see Kanuckistan or CF in battle. Yay. As FOr Feazanthia, my ships, although far smaller that CF and Kunckistan, pack a similar punch. We have a larger fleet, but it is spread even thinner. Like, as if you could attack my planets while we strike with ease, that's how spread thin we are. Our ships and technology make up for it though. Xenonier and it's history is far older than most species, considering we are from another galaxy.

I might not be able to get online to post these in the following days, so my cousin, "Zotrannsia" might have to post them for me.

Anyway, I'm not planning to stop the occupation, although I guess we could. Same aims as CF.

IC:

Ka saw the engagement through scanners immedientley. The CF destroyer was engaged. Despite the overwhelming numbers, Ka was not daunted - how could he be? Xenonier had no major conflicts at the present time, and if nessecary, he could withdraw another fleet, until this rampage was stop. Xenonier would not stand in the way of territory relcamation, but genocide was unspeakable.

The Trasmission was sent to the Feazanthians.

We will not stand for genocide. None can dispute your ancestral claims to the
space here, but your methods of doing so are pathetic. If you don't stop, we will stop you. And you will see just how powerful "hoo-mans" are, given enough time to live.

Meanwhile the Xenonian backup was continung to move. In a few minutes would would arrive, arrayed for full battle and with that, these hostile aliens would know fear.

Awak studied the paper membrane of data being fed to him from his command couche's printer. He could, of course, have it sent to his wrist codec, but it just felt better having a hardcopy. He frowned at the information about he Facehugger shields. That burst was supposed to have destroyed the enemy. Instead, it looked as if their shields were only nicked.

What's more, the unidentified vessels had hailed them and ordered them to stop the coup. Little did they know that there was no human life left in the system. The Asrengarde were horrifyingly efficient, and it had been more than a week since the invasion had begun. Still...

"This is the Agammagon. All ships are to move to grid cube 26, 78, 9 and take up defensive positions. Krotek and Kotus form on the Agammagon. We're taking this noggenfogger out."

Awak closed the line to his new assault team and began ordering his own ship. "Bring that trinity cannon online. Tell our ships to deploy everything they've got. Everything."

The seven and a half kilometer carrier moved into position in front of the two cruisers. Unbenknownst to the Facehuggarians, the reactor began shunting energy to a forward array in the carrier's boxy nose. The two cruisers sent wave after wave of fighters at the Facehuggers, along with a few...other...things that stayed where they were.

The Raiders moved into swarm the Kanuckistan ship. On board computer units made the desision, and all units fired their Five Anti Ship missles fired in quick sucsession. Samantha frowned, watching the alien Base Stars jump to the edge of the FTLi feild some 10 MSK away through her sensors. Were those fools deaf of just incompotent?

"What are those idiots doing? We're presently neutral; they're about to commit an act of war against the Kanuckistani people." A sensor tech voiced what all were thinking.

"Never mind that," the vixen warship scolded, "Plot counterfire soloutions and launch fighters. While we're waiting for them to hit range, I want the spinals charged A-sap and a few dozen AFF's shoved down their throat for good measure. And when they do range, all batteries are to fire as they bear."

To the fore and aft of the great ship, a quartette of massive, armoured doors were in motion; two dozen heavy launchers revealed, leveled at the threat befor, while twin launch tubes permitteded some thousand large, high-agility heavy fighters a rear exit from their hangars deep within her armoured hull.

Even as the raiders fired, the Suicidal Audacity replied with her own soloution to fighter and missile swarms; her launchers spitting forth some 84 anti-fighter formation missiles, with a dozen ECM drone carriers for good measure - the AFF conversion bomb warheads designed to lay waste to even dispersed fighter and missile swarms with their massive blast radius'.

Her fighters, meanwhile, formed up behind her - tied into her fire control net, they would stay clear of her fire lanes until this insult had been dispatched, lending their weaponry to her point defence.

Point Defence that already numbered some thousand fast-tracking particle cannons of anti-corvette caliber - some 856 of which could manage line-of-sight on the incomming swarm, some 856 of which would engage when their self-proclaimed foe crossed a line in the stars some five lightseconds out that defined their arbitrary 'maximum effective engagment envelope'. Lances of kinetic fury striking out at first, evicerating those easiest of targets enmass with surgical precision, then switching to patterns of boxing fire as those wiser pilots made futile plays at evasion.

Their accuracy would only grow as ranges closed, and the time-to-target delay that even lightspeed weapons suffered at such ranges fell. For it was only that delay that hampered the accuracy of Kanuckistani guns.

And still, her spinals charged; the obvious emmisions spike telltail of disturbing power that still grew.

The Fighters went down, but more where there. The Cylons had hated humans, and this was one more way to strick a blow to the Creators. The Empire would not let this battle go, Even now Four more ships where plotting the FTL jumps for the same postion the Basestars had deployed.

The Basestars had never moved after the jump. Their fighters droped, not fast but it happened. The Ordance weapons still moved towards the ships, the Entire fighter compliments. Now the Basestars opened fire, launching all Six of their Anti-Ship guns, all six able to destroy a battlestar with ease. The Raiders where dieing, but they moved in and engaged the enemy fighters, their numbers greatly reduced. But this was not all, The Basestars fired pods that containted the new Cylon Battle Driods. These streaked towards the ship, intent on lasding on its hull.

Edit. And I just realised I brang far too firepower to this fight. For god's sakes, I'm using ships of similar power to Cf and Kanuckistans. Silly me, I don't want this to be a massacre where I wipe out everything and make it impossible for Fezanthia. I blame it on lack of sleep at the time, and poor checking. *Apologises*

Much Like Snake Eaters and their 3.5 km frigates, Xenonier have some really screwed up ideas of ship and weapon size size. They measure desgination on power, not actual physical length. Thus, A dreadnought is capable of annihiliating entire solar systems, and Quantum cannons can tear a battleship apart with a single volley, whereas "Pds systems" could probably destroy a fighter with a good hit, missiles the same. I'm trying to balance out having a reasonably large fleet for it's statistics by reasoning they are spread far too thin, because eventually, once I make the factbook, I am planning to make them even stronger that Kanuckistan and Cf's vessels. Which means I'll have an entire galaxy to police with 100 Uber capital ships - not an attractive military idea, but I'm looking forward to it. It'll be a challenge.

IC:

They what?

Ka was furious. His backup fleet had all but been hamstrung, their prescence required in another sector. The damned Grishnaki pirates had struck againt, a fleet of over 50 ships attacking a series of planets across the Protectorate. Xenonian ships had always been spread thin - their only real weakness in contrast to their tremendous firepower.

For all this, only another destroyer would be able to support this attack. However, that was still over half of Xenonier's capital ships. It was maddening, but exactly he risks he knew when one joined the military. Computers had already adapted to the odds, now factoring in that he had a smaller force. Nevertheless, Ka took comfort in having the tremendous power of his "erstwhile allies" and the probable hell unleashed by their two governments over the attacks made by the aliens.

The strange Cyclons, a race the Xenonians had heard about, but never encountered, had enagaged the Kanuckistan dreadnought. Despite this, Ka doubted they would need help. The Kanuckistan dreadnoughts were supposedly similar to, probably inferior to Xenonian cruisers, although this was probably negligible overall. It would be intruiging - nay ... exciting, to watch one in battle. The damage it had inflicted was impressive thus far, and Ka wished his own Capital ship could do the same.

The entire crew of every ship was already prepared for battle. The hundreds of Point Defence Systems each hunted for individual targets, hungry for a fighter or missile they could tear about in streams of quantum fire. Heavy Batteries of "lasers" aimed for anything in the 100 - 500 Metre size as viable targets. Missile racks's studied probable trajectories of targets while guidance systems all came online, combat station operators ready to empy the tiny missiles in a frenzy that would tear any thing to pieces. The Massive Quantum Cannons locked onto Feazanthian vessells, timing their firing protocol with deadly Quantum Torpedoes, Exaton warheads and beams charged, for use if nessecary, compensating for movement even as the Xenonians moved forward.

The weapons systems each had their place, covering each other, working towards the greater goal. Just like Xenonier itself.

Ka transmitted his expected "talk" through the central communication systems, the Neuralinks on each and Every Xenonian, be they Human or Computer, picking up his call.

It's war, ladies, gentlemen and the genderless. We all know that it's our duty to prevent genocide, to prevent death for no reason. It's henious, evil, and ...... wasteful. We stand againts this because we are the XEnonians, because we fell due to these henious excessess. We shall make others believe the same. We have allies here, Allies with ships smiliar to our own in power, who have similar goals. These aliens have committed crimes against all Sentient life without reasoning and they shall know fear.

Also, can you give a bit of info on your fighters?

And, uh, Kanuckistani aren't hunam; we're more like 98% Assorted Xenos

IC:
Ten million kilometers - just over 33 light seconds. At that range, even the lumbering dreadnaught had little trouble evading. But if the enemy fired at this range, prehaps they couldn't evade so easily?

The firing soloution was straight forward, the target one of the Basestars' center of mass; as four and a half kilometers of twin spinal fury leveled at their target, massive capasitor banks discharged, feeding monsters now unleashed, and twin spears of kinetic rage were loosed upon the enemy, spearing through the void.

Meanwhile, as the surviving Raiders neared the Suicidal Audacity, her flighters diverged; a thousand KA-75 high-agility heavy fighters descending as if a cloud upon their out numbered prey, saphire beams of focused nuclear fire erupting from the muzzles of their massive, conversion-bomb pumped Plasma Hammers as the nimble preditors danced evasive in aparent defiance of their own inertia.

No missile survived the withering, stunningly perfect gunnery of point-defence encountered within the last fifty thousand kilometers of their trip. Unfortunatly for her eager marines, boarding pods were typicly much easier meat - as if her fully intact Standing Barrier Feilds were not as daunting an obstical.

Marcus was deep within thought, the sheer guile of these aliens was troubling. “Star-Captain, are the blink shields charged? The relative inactivity of our enemies worries me.”

“Yes, General.”

“Excellent. Maintain readiness. I want them on at a moment’s notice should the Xenos try anything. In the mean time, Bring us closer to Tarsonis. Close enough to do a bioscan. If there are still people down there, I want to know about it. ”

******

”Alpha one, I’m picking up hostiles. Looks like fighters and bombers.”

”Affirmative Control. Alpha wing, form up on me. There, we’ve got them. Alphas two and three, concentrate on the bombers. The rest of you break and attack!”

Kenzie smiled to himself as he gunned his fighter. Dogfighting was what he did best, and given the extremely potent maneuverability of his ride, he was very good at it.

He targeted one of the more threatening looking Xeno craft with his pulse lasers, firing off several strobes of low powered light in less than a second. He followed it up with one of his Tracer beams, essentially a continuous neutron blaster that cuts through EM shields as though they weren’t even there.

******

”General, the Kanuckistani pocket dreadnought has been fired upon by an unknown group of Xenos.” The Star-Captain’s thoughts were plain on his face. He wanted to go and save the Kanuckistani.

“Neg. They neither need, nor do I imagine that they want our help.” Marcus replied. What was it with incompetent officers getting command of capital ships of the line these days? he privately thought to himself. It would be something to speak with the Emperor about when he got back.

“General, actives have just picked up a Xeno vessel. Big one, as far as the ships we’ve seen so far go. I’d wager it’s one of their cap ships.”

Marcus smiled. “Excellent. Bring us within beam range. Let us kill some Xenos.”

With that, the Adjudicator sped off, accelerating far faster than a ship her size had a right to.

“We’re in range, General. Roughly one light second out.” Rand replied morosely.

“Open fire.”

******

Bright ruby red plasma beams streaked through the sky, hundreds of the thin strands converging from various weapons turrets on the monstrous Adjudicator, each one packing incredible firepower.

The ship followed that up with a thousand gun salute of PPB microbursters, each set as close range beamers. In that vein, cool blue beams of light strobed out towards the Feazanthian vessel, packing immense shield busting potential yet sub-par effectiveness against regular armor.

But that was not all. Another thousand shots rang through the Adjudicator as its NBW microbursters fired, sending a thousand separate beams of lethal accelerated neutrons towards the hapless Feazanthian vessel, each capable of bullying its way through the thickest shields and armor. Gouging deep holes in even thick ECC armor plating in a flash.

For a moment, the entire Feazanthian ship was obscured by the sheer volumes of energy heading at it.

The price for orbital shipyards that are 30 Kilometers long must be crazy too. And then there is the problem of mining ...

And they have entire fleets of these. I've got to learn how they manage to force their people to do that. :)

Awak gritted his teeth as the Facehugger vessel poured fire into his own carrier.
"Report!"
His answer came from a hollow, metallic voice to his side.
"Decks four through sixteen breached, failure on port side reactor number two, 'B' fighter bay destroyed. Approximate loss of combat ability: 36%."

"Pagh!" shouted Awak, smashing his furry fist into the command couch. "Is that cannon online yet?"
"Affirmative, sir! She just came online!"
"FIRE! GIVE THAT NOGGENFOGGER EVERYTHING WE'VE GOT!"

Emerald energy poured through the trio of holes on the ship's bow. The holes were shaped in a triangular position, and fired rapid bursts of raw power. This was the greatest weapon in the Asrengarde's arsenal, the Trinity Cannon. Behind the scenes, monstrous amounts of antimatter and matter were colliding and the resultant energy was shunted towards the cannon. The cannon's shots were combined with salvo after salvo of torpedoes.

The two cruisers took up defensive positions, blocking the carrier from what was now known to be the Facehuggers main weapons arrays. They too unleashed a hellish wave of torpedoes and their own laser cannons. Fighters rained down upon the Facehugger vessel like God himself had unleashed a plague, their tiny energy bursts and microtorpedoes chipping away at the shields.

Behind the cruisers, hundreds of tiny orbs activated. Machinery whirred and clicked into place, and a certainly devious device was surely preparing to deploy.

"General, detecting large energy build up in the enemy vessel!"

Marcus frowned. "I knew it. Captain, activate blink shields.

A great sapphire veil of energy fluttered over the entire structure of the Adjudicator. The much vaunted blink shields. It glowed sparkling white every time it was hit as each strike was converted and shunted back into the shield grid as protective energy. They rendered the vessel essientially invulnerable, so long as the enemy continued to poor fire upon them like a summer monsoon. But as with all things there was a price to pay. The Adjudicator was unable to move when they are active, although that did not stop its numerous point defense guns blasting away at the fighters and torpedoes nearby, swatting them from space with intensely accurate fire.

"That did it sir!" one of the bridge officers shouted. Moments ago, he had been concerned about his own death, he obviously didn't know how the numerous protective systems of his ship worked.

"Silence! I refuse to underestimate our enemy! Tactical, are the Xeno's shields down?" Marcus replied angrily. This crew was too green, either that or too used to being invulnerable to the weaponry of lesser races.

"Scanning sir! They are..."

OOC: Just so you know, Blink shields take your weapons fire and use it to power the shields. The easiest way to defeat them is to simply *not* fire on them for about five minutes so that their energy drains and they have to recharge for around twenty minutes. ICly your sensors will probably notice a power drain from the shields when they're not being fired upon.

Oh, and fill in the blank at the end please. If your shields are down, that will clear Marcus to begin using his secondary weaponry, most of which is designed for heavy anti-armor work. Up till now, he's only used the tertiary weapons so far. :)

Additional post coming once I know your reactions.

"...shields at 68% and climbing, sir!"
"What is the status of the enemy vessel?"
"Enemy vessel estimated combat status...100%. Warning: Unusual energy signiature detected."
"Of course," hissed the Hauptmann General. "The much vaunted Facehuggarian 'blink shields'. Leftennant! Scan the enemy vessel's engine output."

A moment later, the young officer spoke up.

"I-I'm not getting anything, sir! Their engines seem to be offline!"

"Ha! That's Facehugger engineering for you. Never looking further than five minutes ahead. I'm assuming the Trinity Cannon is continuing to fire?"
"Yes, sir. Zero-Point reactors are supplying a steady stream of antimatter to the cannon."
"Good. Reroute power from the engines and main torpedo launchers to maintaining the cannon. Auxilary power is to be completely sent to the shields. Cease fire of the torpedoes, order all strike craft to join the attack on the enemy fleets. Open a channel to the Kotus."

He waited a second while the bridge crew complied. The brown and white visage of the Kotus' commanding officer appeared in Awak's orb.

"Hauptman Sabredawn, this is Awak. I trust you're well?"
"Aye, Hauptmann General. Although, it's appearing like none of our shots are getting through."
"Yes, I should've thought of that. Listen, I'm activating the Harlequin Protocol. I want the Kotus to link up with the Agammagon and begin a full power transfer. We'll extend our shield around your ship."
"Sir? What about the Web?"
"That's for later. The point is that we have the Facehuggarians trapped by their own technology. Their shields will keep them in place, and the moment they drop them, our cannon will waste them."

The angular cruiser began moving towards the boxy carrier, and small ports on the side of the much-larger vessel began opening. In a matter of minutes, the cruiser had physically linked with the carrier and myriad tubes began connecting the two craft."

"Power link established, sir."
"Good, evacuate all non-essential personnel from the Kotus. I want every single joule we can get from them pumped into our shields."
He then issued a toothy grin.
"Hail the Facehuggers."

Meanwhile, the Feazanthian fleet barreled headlong at the Xenonier. Though they did not have the same advantage over this fleet as they did against the Facehuggers or the Kanuckistani, preliminary scans showed them to be a small threat. Unless they could get sizable reinforcements, this would be over fairly quickly. Six command carriers, only slightly weaker than the Agammagon itself, led the bulk of the invasion fleet agaist them.
"Give them a volley," said sub-General Greenpelt. In an instant, the Xenonier fleet was obscured by thousands of torpedoes, quickly followed by numerous strike craft and energy bursts.

"Star-Captain, Activate wavelock beams. Target the lead carrier, let us see if we can break their spirit by destroying their command ship." Deep down, Marcus was elated. These Xenos were indeed worthy opponents.

"General, we are receiving a transmission from the...Feazanthians!? Patching it through now..."

******

Beep, beep. The maddening sound of a missile lock resounded through Kenzie's helmet as he took careful aim and let an Avalanche missile fly towards the fighter he was tailing. The Avalanche, like most other Imperial missiles was unnecessarily powerful, but it would still get the job done here.

The missile flew true, and it appeared as though the Feazanthian fighter he was trailing would soon meet a fiery death, barring diving providence...

******

The battle was not going as lopsidedly in his favor like many of his other battles, but that was good. It was refreshing. It forced Marcus to come up with a new plan. The Kanuckistani FTLi field was interfering with some of his weaponry and shield options, the Combat Displacer foremost amongst those. Opening his mind, he sent a direct and uninterceptable tight-beam transmission to the Kanuckistani ship. "Attention KAGV Suicidal Audacity, this is the ISV Adjudicator, Star-General Marcus speaking. I respectfully request that you drop your FTLi fields for a period of one point two milliseconds for us to use our combat teleport unit."

In an excessive display of multi-tasking, Marcus was also mentally speaking to the ship's AIs at the same moment, giving them specific orders to activate the combat displacer immediately as soon as the Kanuckistani fields were down.

All this in the heartbeat between him ordering the Wavelock beams targeted and the Comms officer patching the Feazanthian transmission through.

OOC: Wavelock beams are some of my larger and more powerful weapons. They basically scan the target with powerful passive sensors and then match the beam to the exact opposite resonance, literally vibrating the target apart. They’re stopped by shields, but they quickly collapse most of them due to the nature of the weapon.

But I’d like you to clarify what you’re doing right now. Are you keeping the pressure on my ship with your Trinity cannon? Or have you stopped firing totally, waiting for the shields to drain? If it’s the former, all you’re doing is giving the shields more power. If it’s the latter, I need to know that so I can write my response.

And of course, the Wavelock beams and Combat Displacers are pretty much new tech that your characters have had no experience with. :)

CF, it's not a pocket dreadnaught; those are the High Gaurd's 350m long glorified frigates. OOC:
Actually, NS population is used to determin general overall capibilities of nations relative to each other.

Basicly, you can't fairly claim both quantitive and qialitive advantages over someone unless you have a substantially larger population and/or some other impartial justification.

By that extension, you can't claim your fleet of 100 uberships are each comparible to the best of Kanuckistan and CF, when these nations are both much larger and invest much more heavily in quality - hell, the Kanuckistani High Gaurd only has 10 front-line warships; 3 Battleplates and 7 Superfortresses.

Now, you might think this unfair, but it is the only thing restraining folks from continuously one-uping each other.

The Raiders Droped, more then One hundred dead. THe Cannons the Kanuck ships fired moved directly into Basestars armour, cutting into the thing deeply and destorying a large number of units. The Ships needed something more to do this, their tatcia realised they could not outpower this ship in long range. "Communications protocols enabled...switching to neutral frequency. You are free to speak, Hauptmann General."
"Thank you, Leftennant," Awak was elated. They'd actually accepted his hail! Ha, even the Facehuggers could surprise the wily Awak once and a while, it seemed. A visual patch was sent through the bridge's holocams and would show the face of Awak to the Facehuggarians. He cleared his throat and began to speak.

"This is Hauptmann General of the Galactic Feazanthian Navy Expeditionary Force. As I'm sure you know, our weapons aren't doing as much as a quarg of damage on your ship. In fact, they're making your shields stronger,"
He chuckled.
"I assure you, your Blink Shields will not save you. At this very moment, an EMP web is surrounding your vessel. Don't try to target the emitters, even we have trouble seeing them. With one word, I can shut down every system in your vessel. Not just weapons and propulsion, mind you, but gravity and life support. Also, I know by reading the overview of your shield system that, while your shield is active, you have no propulsion. The moment you try to move, your shield drops and our weapons have you."
Awak scratched his chin with one paw.
"Now, I consider myself a reasonable life form. As I'm sure at least one of your bridge officers has identified my species by now, I wont bother lying to you. I am Asrengarde, one of the former slaves of the Feazanthian Empire. The old empire and its lapdogs, the Extra-Solar Union, kept my people in slavery and torture for countless generations. However, I shall be far kinder to you. Power down your weapons and leave our system. Take your...friends...with you. We have no quarrel with you, we are only tying up a few loose ends here. You have intruded upon Imperial space, fired upon Imperial ships without provocation, and will shortly be soundly beaten. Even if, somehow, you manage to win today...you will be soundly beaten. There is no escape for you or your crew other than the option I am offering you now. Leave, or die."
The Hauptmann General turned, quite visibly, to someone off-screen.
"Ready the Skippers!"
He turned back to the holocam.
"You have twenty of your seconds. Awak, out."

At this, the Krotek moved between the Adjuncator and the Agammagon. Razor-thin beams of light began connecting the hundreds of orbs that had, by using tiny propulsion jets, surrounded the immobilized Adjuncator. Awak, obviously, was not bluffing.

The Suicidal Audacity? 4.5 kilometers long, as I've already said.

Just don't think you can jump through my FTLi.

IC:
The Audacity's fighters began shifting tactics as the enemy craft were whittled down; a lone KA-75 swinging around to tail each, plinking away with light, rapid-fire rounds, maintaining pressure; forcing the enemy craft to focus totally upon evasion and survival - meanwhile, the remaining fighters, along with the Dreadnaught's point-defence, chambered far heavier rounds and weapon charges, respectivly; they took careful aim, and as one fired.

There were not without losses, however, but blessed with superrior(I'm assuming) hardware and an average skill centuries in the making, they had suffered but seven casualties - two of which managed to return their crippled craft to the looming mothership.

Meanwhile, the Basestar's lone round was evaded as readily as slavos past; her return fire manifesting in a volly of some fifty intermediate anti-capital proximity-warhead missiles, laced heavily with ECM and remote sensor drones; missiles targeting what remained of the crippled ship's weapons and sheilds and drives.

Paving the way for a potential boarding mission, the salvo was tasked with gauging what remained of enemy defences, then destroying them, and gathering all possible data on the enemy vessel; several actually carrying racks of force-bore mounting sensor drones, to probe the ship's interrior.

Marcus Smiled. These Xenos were nothing if not entertaining. Still, he had a grudging respect for them.

"EMP? Ha! Do you actually think that our systems would be vulnerable to an electromagnetic pulse in this day and age? You are not speaking to a race that has only just emerged into space. We have been faring the stars for more than ten millennia, although our Empire is only a recent institution. Our computers and power systems have advanced beyond using simple electrons, we have nothing to fear from an electromagnetic pulse."

Marcus took a deep breath before he continued. "You have fought bravely and well, and earned my respect. I shall offer you this one chance for survival. Cease your wanton slaughter of humans, relinquish any prisoners you have captured, and return to your own stars -if you wish to retain your mortal coils. The choice is yours."

After muting the connection on his end and turning his back to the receiver, Marcus turned to the Star-Captain. "Rand, I want a displacer jump coordinated immediately. We're going to try the Carth englobement if our furry adversaries opt not to leave peaceably."

Marcus sent another message to the 'Kanuckistani' warship. Basically, it was an apology for the greenness of his sensor operator.

"Time to let them know, once and for all, that this is our space, and we plan to stay here. FIRE ALL TUBES!"

Four torpedoes (not many by Feazanthian standards) launched from the Agammagon. They spiraled through the inky cosmos towards the Facehuggarian ship. Before coming in contact with the blink shield, however, the vanished through tiny green wormholes...

((I assume you still remember what Skipper Torpedoes do, correct? Oh, and I have future plans for Awak and his ship. If you blow it up, he'll only get a bigger one.))

OOC Tactics Advisory:
When firing a handful of high-power missile weapons at an anemy, it is often wise to let them have a full and proper salvo of conventional warheads in addition, thus providing cover by occupying enemy point-defence batteries.

As Murphy says: teamwork is essential - it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.

This I know, but these are bloody Skippers. They go into FTL before they get within PD range.

That depends on what your opponent considers PD range.

However, "Before coming in contact with the blink shield" implies that they were rather close.

OOC:
CF, it's not a pocket dreadnaught; those are the High Gaurd's 350m long glorified frigates. It's a unique dreadnaught/carrier hybrid designed and built by the Kanuckistani Adventurers' Guild, a civilian-run paramilitary orginization of mercenaries, vigilanties, thrill seekers, and, well, adventurers.

OOC:
Actually, NS population is used to determine general overall capibilities of nations relative to each other.

OOC: I don't find it unfair at all, and I do appreciate these unwritten laws. I'm just trying to find an acceptable fleet size and still have a nice fleet of teh uber ships, while ensuring I aint godmodding. So, with that in mind, it's the major reason my Factbook is unfinished - I simply can't get the right fleetsize. Which is complitcated even more, because. I was under the impression you had a much larger fleet, an I mean much much larger, at least five times that. That will probably need to be cut to a third or less, reducing ships of destroyer size and above to 5-10 or below. I just realised, according to information on your fleet size, that I have made some major mistakes, which I'll edit in this thread. Honestly, I thought you had more. If I have to cut my own fleets down to compensate - so be it. Roleplay is a learning expierience and this will help greatly. It also provides an interesting oppurtunity - I rarely notice useage of frigates and Corvettes (Gunships) in Space Combat these days, so they look set to become my main fighting force, which is split paper thin to guard a lot of systems (That is the other, major reason I am fielding a larger fleet than I should in most cases, because they can never mass in number, unlike CF who can mass 30 something ships in one area - I can mass maybe 7 ships of the same size). I'm looking forward to the challenge.

And I still think you have the best flag ever.

Sorry Feazanthia, my mistake here seems to have dragged some of this thread away from the battle. Still, either way, it's been fun thus far. Btw, Kanuckistan, Cf, how long are you planning to stay in this fight? I'm not sure when I'll leave, but it will probably be after Kanuckistan.

Anyway.

IC:

Ka smiled as the mass of firepower closed in to his small fleet. Small, but powerful. His own Heavy cruiser moved to the front of the formation, ready to take the brunt of the fire.

Scanners read out the incoming weapons. Ka raised an eyebrow in suprise. Only torpedoes and energy blasts? Were these aliens mad?. His ship moved to the front, it's own shields overlapping with those of the fleet. Stations showed the relative strength of the shields rising expotentially, even as the Feazanathian firepower closed in. Finally, the backup destroyer had arrived, and was already moving towards his own ships, ready to join the battle. In retrospect, Ka realised that he was being far too optimistic with ship committments - an unusal oversight for such an expierienced commander. To take his entire fleet would have been to take away half of Xenonier's entire Capital ship fleet that was on standby. Despite the resoultion of hostilites with Tyraelia, and no other major conflicts, leaving the 1st fleet to guard the majority fo the steller systems, the Grishnaki were still a threat. Placing an entire fleet in one area was far too much firepower - it would leave too many systems witout a fleet to call upon.

PDS systems targeted the torpedos, utilising their countermeasures with deadly accuracy. The incredible defensive firepower of Ka's own command vessel could be aimed at the center mass of torpedos, shooting down many of the warheads, while the rear of the fleet, escorts, gunships and Frigates, in combination with the destroyers, managed to disable most of the torpedoes. The combined shields hummed with resonant energy as they shrugged of hits again and again. The Enery bursts proved a greater threat, striking against the Quantum shields with great force, but achieveing little. The Feazanthians had underestimated him thus far.

Ka's screens showed, against the combined shields, the damage was negligible. Somewhere around 10 - 15, possibly 20 % damage to his own vessel's shields, negligible to the others, thanks to the interlocking defense, and now that they knew more about their foes weapons, countermeasures could be developed. The Blink shields were an interesting measure, Ka noted. Perhaps discussions could be made on enhancing those in return for rights to produce them. The Xenonians were known for their quest in efficiency, and Central Facehuggeria and Kunuckistan were certainly worth investigating for future alliance plans.

Meanwhile, Raptr's formed up in defense of every ship. Hundreds of the deadly interstellar interceptors, backed up by the heavier, anti strikcraft gunships. They formed groups, the Gunships targeting the seething mass of fighters with missiles and PDS cannon. The Raptrs did the same, utilising their superior stand off fire capabilities to thin the tide before the storm came.

As The Fezanathians advanced into range, and the Xenonians pounced on them from all angles, firing into the fray. While the Xenonian's couldn't match the number of foes, or the number of carriers, they had the advantage of technology, expierience, and far more importantly, responce time. No race yet enncountered had the combat transmission systems the Xenonians did - none.

Frigates seemed to float down, firing their own, much heavier anti Strikecraft weapons systems targeting everything they could. Other frigates stayed close to the Capital ships, firing into the fray with careful precsion, picking off fighters that tried to escape the battle.

Ka now turned his ships to face their foe. He picked out the lead carrier with his personal targeting mechanisims. It was much more "fun" to do things personally. To combine the power of all Ships Quantum Cannons was a dangerous manouvere, deadly and difficult to actually perform. In addition, the massive Quantum Torpedos aquired the same targeted, a massive amount of firepower. But the results were worth it, and the morale damage to an a enemy fleet was devastating. The Miaks did the same, combining their firepower on another carrier, waiting for their fleet captain - the most expierienceed naval officer to attack first.

And he fired. The Feazanthian ship was obscured by the massive beam of energy that was a volley from the Quantum Cannons.

OOC: Aye, but what do you define as PD range? My PD weapons have really long ranges, typically in a couple thousand kilometers. But it doesn't really matter too much because of this...

IC: "Star-Captain. Activate displacer immediately. Those are Feazanthian Skipper torpedoes, they'll get through our defenses if we don't reposition ourselves."

Unfortunately, Rand was a little slow on the uptake, he was still gawking at the torpedoes, giving them precious seconds to get closer unintercepted.

"Star-Captain!" Marcus yelled. Rand didn't seem to care about the projectiles, he'd never had experience with Skipper or other such exotic weaponry. The torpedoes were getting closer, they would impact with the blink shields within mere moments. But Marcus knew they wouldn't hit, they would bypass them entirely due to his oversight in not activating the spatial lockdown units.

Rand was a fool, so it seemed that Marcus had to take matters into his own hands, or rather his mind. Using his override codes, Marcus ordered the ship AIs to carry out his orders where the good captain had failed. They dutifully complied, activating the combat displacer with only milliseconds to spare. In one tingly moment, the Adjudicator was gone, vanished from its place.

Seconds later, the ship reappeared, without fanfare or the exotic flashing lights that popular fiction was infested with. But the Adjudicator’s location was very different indeed. Where it had been several light seconds in front of the enemy fleet, now it was in a totally different location, on the other side of the planet as a matter of fact.

“Greetings, Hauptman General! As you will no doubt notice, I’m now on the other side of the planet. Unfortunately, I’m being called away to deal with a Xeno slave uprising, so I must cut this little exercise short. But before I go, I feel a need to leave my mark as it were. Now, as you’ve apparently already killed off all the Humans on this planet, I’m going to do something that I haven’t done for quite some time. You see, normally we simply destroy a Xeno planet, or at least ignite its atmosphere. But not today.”

Marcus turned to the left and nodded to someone off screen. “What I’m doing today is twofold. One, I am carving my name into your planet, as a reminder. And two, I am releasing several bombardment drones with Bio-Terminator viral payloads onto the planet. When they’re done, the planet’s ecosystem will be quite ruined. Of course, I am a…reasonable being. There is still time to intercept some of the drones, if you act quickly. Of course by then, we’ll be suppressing slaves in the Zeta Synar system. But I digress. When this transmission ends, you will have exactly…five point four minutes. Goodbye, hope you have fun. I certainly did.”

A mere heartbeat after the transmission ended, a flight of twenty four tiny and missile like drones sped out of the Adjudicator heading to the planet below, each one carrying enough virus to render a continent uninhabitable for years to come. Meanwhile, the Adjudicator recalled its fighters, slaving their own displacers to the ship AIs, returning them directly into their hangar berths instantly. Although it must be admitted that the pilots felt a little queasy and disappointed from the displacement and abrupt end of the combat.

That necessary evil done, one of the plasma beams opened up, projecting a ruby beam of fire onto the planet below. Melting its way through the surface, the beam carefully choreographed a series of movements, leaving an end result almost like calligraphy. It plainly said for all in orbit to see “Star-General Marcus was here.”

“Well, that’s that. Duty calls. Too bad, I would have liked to follow this fight through to its conclusion. Meh, perhaps in the future I’ll get my chance. Take us out of here.”

”You’re not going to stay and watch the carnage?” Rand asked quizzically. Too used to his own superiority.

“No. I’ve seen enough, and a Xeno slave uprising is nothing to sneeze at. We’ve got to put it down lest they become like these creatures that we’ve fought today.” Marcus replied as a slight tremor ran through the ship. A hellish green portal opened in front of the Adjudicator, and sucked it in to the bizarre quasi-spatial dimension that formed the backbone of Imperial FTL technology.

******

Bombardment drone 230-A blazed through the planet’s atmosphere, spraying part of its viral payload into the air. It would take weeks to land, and in the mean time it would contaminate everything it touched, sticking to any air or space craft that deign to run into it.

The rest of the drones took a more cautious stance, preferring to release their virus load when they landed, unwittingly giving the Feazanthians time to intercept them.

Captain D'vires of the clan Aces' of the Skyrim March, a six-century ace of the Games, muttered a curse as a tangent of his star-scattered mind percived the Suicidal Audacity's intercept of the Star-General's message. Arming a pair of Purgatory-69 HKR/S Anti-Strikecraft missiles, his mind instantly applied for intercept and a blink in the realspace FTLi feild.

Three seconds passed as he continued to tail the alien raider, his fire forcing it to remain evasive, befor he recived as affirmitive reply. He chambered a pair of MK33 Frigate-Killers into his guns and, loosing the pair of High-Kill Radius/Swarm missiles, swept twin pillars of azure hellfire across the raider.

Not bothering to wait for a confirmed kill - knew another would take his place if the raider survived both his guns and the swarm of smart-nukes he'd loosed upon it - he took off towards the planet and sync'd his SLDS drives to the entangled countdown feed from his carrier.

15 seconds later, he was amoung a dozen fighters to streak away on realspace FTL during the momentary lapse in interdiction of low-order uncertainty-based drives like they used; their IFF transponders changing, signaling their intention to intercept the viral pods.

They would be upon their targets in less than 30 seconds after that; there tactic simple and straightforward. Pass close enough on their inertialess FTL drives to snag their targets in the drive feild; an immensly tricky maneuver, but Captain Samantha Jackson has insured those applicants she had picked were up to it - nukes(or the anti-capital converson-bomb torpedos the fighters carried) would have likely been sufficent to reduce the drones to little more than a shower of quarks and gluons, but given the opponent, armour sufficent to allow part of their payload to survive couldn't be ruled out.

OOC:
Yes, I realise they're entering the atmosphere, but SLDS in inertialess, so skimming through it's not an issue. And there are twice as many drones as I sent fighters, so I can't get 'em all anyway.

Xenonier, I've no intention of fighting the Feazanthians; someone didn't realise this, however, and decided to 'help' them by attacking me.

A small set of twin turrets popped out of the top of each drone, not meant to damage the target so much as push it away. In concordance with the turrets, the drones also released several decoys, small pods designed to emulate the real drone exactly in every way except armoring and threat. Holographic emitters coated the decoys, giving them the appearance of a fully laden drone ready to release its cargo. Even the mass signature was reproduced through a complex manipulation of gravity by the decoys' systems. The only real way to discern the real drones from the fake would be to fire upon them, or collide with them. Either way would give the drones precious seconds to release their payloads.

>>>Firing repulsion beams...miss. Firing...miss. Firing...

The drones continued to fire upon their would be interceptors. The repulsion beams did little to no physical damage, but rather they had the potential to knock whatever they hit violently off course, an ability that would prove beneficial if they could actually hit the Kanuckistani designed fighters. Of course, as the fighters get closer, the chances for hits increase exponentially.

OOC: Remember, these drones are the size of small bombers here. Each drone released about six decoys.

D'vires grinned inwardly as his fighter nibly sidesteped another round - the flyby would be over by the time it could reach his face; another fighter had taken a hit, the barrier feild absording it's energy in full. So, that fire was probally harmless, but he wouldn't put it past them to fire underpowered rounds until they started ignoring it. That was always a fun trick.

The buggers decoys could be tricky, however; with any luck, vector-tracking and gravitic resonance imaging would likly see through them in the next few miliseconds as they closed...

OOC:
In the middle of typing up this post, I recalled that the Standing Barrier Feilds treat all incomming energy indifferently, so I couldn't have an NPC suprised by the weapon's nature and sent spinning off. Which is a pitty; could've had some fun with that.

What kind of drives do thise things have, if any? Are they reactionless?

And would the mass-footprint magnifier be acurate enough to spoof a gravitic resonance sensor designed to image point- and string- particles?

The Basestars where not foolish, they appeared at nine different points, evenly spaced, around the Kanuckistan Ship, incuding above and below it. Each Ship Immidietly launched a salvo, as well as full raider compliment, but this was different from last time. They had not all fired at one point, rather, they had fired on a large radius, which was coming from all directions, at random locations, creating a fairly hard to get out of web. The salvo could quite easily take any ship on known records, and it would be hard, though not impossible, to get away from.

OOC: IC post coming later. In the meantime, the drones have typical grav drives supplemented by thrusters. Thrusters which they haven't used yet.

The drones also have small missile racks with a variety of warheads, and no, they can't spoof a sensor designed to see strings. The only hope for the drones in that case is if they can throw up enough debris to overwhelm your sensors with a sheer number of contacts. Probably through self destruction. :p

"Clever," Samantha mused as she observed the enemy maneuver; it was probally their best shot, that, but 33 seconds was a long time. She could probally evade them readily enough, but murphy haunted all battlefeilds, and there was no need to take chances, "But not quite clever enough."

Shifting her FTLi as she had done so recently, she brought her own SLDS nodes online; the realspace inertialess drives accellerating without, atleast technicly, motion as she edged just past effective-lightspeed - a simple, liniar course that narrowly evaded the Basestars' death blosem , but did so without any measure of chance.

She had scarcly moved a lightseconds befor killing her drives and restoring inhibbitors full; rotary gyros bringing her prow to face the nearest basestar, which was now trapped nearly 200'000 kilometers within the Audacity's feild of FTLi.

The massive spinals, having sense recharged, once again loosed twin spires of blindingly white light - the dragon's kinetic fire erupting forth at speeds that were akin to Cee itself.

And as she felt their capasitors run dry, she thought it might be ammusing to chat.

"Give me a general broadcast; A/V, same as befor."

"Hostile vessels, this is Captain Samantha Jackson, avatar and commander of the KAGV Suicidal Audacity ship-self," the alluring vixen began much like befor, save for what could be a hint of mild annoyance; the revealing thing of cloth and leather and silver plate that adorned her vulpine form unchanged from befor as she reclines upon her golden command throne. "Identify yourselves and your reason for attacking us. Awak listened to the intercepted message from the Suicidal Audacity.
"Interesting," said the veteran officer. "She almost sounds Asrengarde. Cybernetic vessel, this is the Agammagon. Break off your assault on the Suicidal Audacity and her strike craft. They mean us no harm. If your are interested in helping us, redirect your assault against the alien fleet. They are the only real threat remaining. Awak out."
He then redirected a tightbeam HPG message to the Audacity.
"This is Hauptmann General Isha Awak of the GFN Agammagon. I appreciate your peoples' efforts at destroying those viral pods in orbit," (at this very moment, a full squadron of Hippogriff fighters had been dispatched to deal with the pods. They had been instructed to shoot at anything that didn't look like a fighter). "However, I am curious to your origins and intentions. If they are friendly, I request a meeting once this remaining enemy fleet has been dispatched. Awak, out."

The Agammagon-Kotus began moving towards the ensuing battle between Xeonier and the Feazanthian fleet, Trinity Cannon recharging.

Among the myriad space junk that now circled the planet, a single Nebudchadnezzar transport floated. It analyzed the exit vector of the Adjudicator and matched it. A small Hyper-Pulse Generator emerged from the craft and sent the following message.

This is Leftennant Lilaani Silvermoon to Facehuggarian vessel. Repeat, this is Leftennant Lilaani Silvermoon of the Feazanthian Navy to Facehuggarian vessel. I have information you would deem interesting. Please respond...

OOC: Feazanthia, this is assuming we've done some casualties, particularly from the last Combined Quantum Cannon volley. Exact numbers are fudged around, and I'm going to stick with the fact this is half of my nations entire fleet, so sorry if any passages contradict in the earlier parts of the thread, I shall have to edit them when I get the time.

Things were starting to get interesting. The Feazanthians were annoying, that much could be said, but their commander's stragteic know-how was sadly lacking. The Xenonians had been pressed at first, but once they understood their foes patterns, the going had been rather easy. The Feazanthians had made one major error in their attack - underestimating the Xenonian vessels. It said something about their firepower, when one considers this was half the entire Xenonian fleet in terms of capital ships. The Feazanthian initial volley was impressive, but their potency had gone down from there, dropping the shields to 80-95% on the Average, as Shielding was brought to 100% functionailty and countermeasures grew more effective. Fighters had taken far more shielding damage, as had frigates, who suffered a great deal, in some cases down to 50-60%. Xenonians were not quite as brash as Central Facehuggerians, preferring to wait until they had analysed enemy firepower before bringing shields and countermeasures fully online.

However, now the overblown cannon was on it's way, things would get interesting. That the beam was foiled by the blink shields - (such a clever invention!) suggested both insight into the beam's makeup, and what could be done. The Heavy Cruiser was a larger vessel than the CF Heavy destroyer, and it had four escorts that were in all effects, eqiuvalents of the "ally". The Feazanthian resistance had been stiff, but Ka could sense a change. The Feazanthians couldn't keep this up without assistance from their overblown beam - Ka Could. He might not win, but he could eventually wear his foes down, or so he believed.

Ka made orders. All vessels were to charge weapons to maximum firepower as the Feazanthian vessel closed, and aim to take out the cannon from range, unless something else happened in between. If so, Ka's vessel would take the shot from the cannon. Countermeasures and frequencies could be altered, and Ka knew while the cannon could damage, perhaps cripple his own ship, that could prove an interesting oppurtunity in itself. These Aliens knew nothing of a Himmelman manouvere. Of course, seconds later, it would be blown out of the galaxy by the supporting Miaks, now bolstered by the new arrival.

A channel was opened.

To: The Actual leader of the Feazanthians with real strategic ability.
From. The Xenonian leader who is unimpressed by your vassals.

Well, this has been interesting so far. Of Course, by now you've figured out we like to follow the routines of Central Facehuggeria, in small numbers of ships that are undeniably powerful. In case you care, this is roughly half my protectorates entire capital ship fleet, perhaps less, it is difficult to tell who is on picket duty these days - and it has certainly shown you this. Now, I do believe those of your people who are currently sucking fumes, or reduced to their composite essences/souls/whateveryouwishtocallit, we can actually talk. Now, if you want to kick some people out you don't like, by all means, do so. But methods are methods - and slaughter is dissapointing and we came to make you pay for it. I severly doubt a general would care for schematics, nor the whims of his/her/it's master who was willing to take a risk such as this.

Now, If you have massacred all Feazanthian Humans in this Empire, then I would call the damage we have inflicted a fair trade. A ceasefire is open, should you wish to call it. If not, well, you failed miserably to scratch the CF destroyer with the majority of your fleet, and now you face a fleet with similarily powerful ships, and we are far greater in number. Plus we have a large fleet of fighters, corvettes, and frigates, which renders your advantage there impotent - and it has, thus far.

Now, if you want to go ahead and fire upon us with your trinity cannon, do so. You've sene your volleys shrugged off ,and the last one - did less than 10% damage! Do you honestly expect to make much progress, or do you want us to actually send a real volley your way? I've been nice enough thus far, and you saw the results. You'll doubtless be scanning our ships, noticing the power ratings go online. You can fight this war right here and now, against our fleet, or we can both stand down, and neither side walks away with major damages. You've killed, we've killed.

I know nothing about you and you know nothing about me, and yet you seem nearly impervious to my weapons. This, my friend, is godmodding in my opinion. You see, CF was powerful as well, but he had weaknesses. If I gave up firing my cannon for a good five minutes, his ship would have been a sitting duck (I didn't because it made for interesting RP). He also RPed like he was at risk. If his ship's commander hadn't intervened at the last second, my torpedoes would have gone right through his shield and his ship would be a floating mass of molecules. You see? He has weaknesses, as do my ships. My ships are geared towards a LOT of firepower with not much in the way of defense. Also, they have a lot of fighters and corvettes (Nebudchanezzars). To say you didn't suffer a casualty against my firepower is ludacris. Also, to deploy HALF your fleet would take an expenditure of resources that would keep you from doing anything significant militarily in the forseeable future. Even if it's a small amount of ships with a high level of technology, it'd cost an ungodly amount. The force I've assembled here is about 1/4 of my total fleet in terms of capital ships, and the rest are usually kept in dry dock in the home galaxy. One or two are dispatched at a time to deal with problems. Quite frankly, spending this amount on something that doesn't really relatively affect your nation in any serious way just doesn't make sense. If I was invading you, it'd be a different story.
I'll agree to the cease fire now, but keep this in mind if you ever want to go at me again.))

"This is Hauptmann General Isha Awak of the GFN Agammagon to unidentified Xeonier commander. Begone with you. We have no quarrel with your kind, yet you arrived and did battle with us. You have fought with honor and have gained my respect, but enough blood has been shed this day. This system is now commanded by the Feazanthian empire as it should be and shall remain that way. Now leave this place and do not return. The ceasefire is declared."

The Feazanthian vessels, having suffered relatively minor losses to the Xeonier barrage (six destroyers and a pair of cruisers), began pulling back while keeping their main weapons trained on the enemy vessels.

Awak sighed. "If only we had had time to equip those ion beams, this would've been different."

OOC: Actually, everything I'm doing is in character with what I have planned out for my nation - they use few ships and rely on orbital defenses for the most part. You've shown no attempt to even understand my nation, et all, and it shows. Now, cost isn't exactly applicable to a Communist Nation per se, and they have recently been deploying ships and observation probes to track Tyraelian threats, as both rolplayed in several threads, and covered in the main thread about that conflict and that it takes some time to wind a military down. Xenonier has realised this threat as the greatest to it's existence, the existence of the galaxy, and is mobilising to deal with that, whatever the cost - even if it kills them. It's covered in a previous roleplay, and I can provide links if you wish. It's half the reason I really need to finish a factbook, to get a timescale running so people know this, but there we are - I haven't the time, and until this thread, I hadn't had the advice nessecary to get a fair estimate for my capital ships - now I have. 10 capital ships, or 10 1km or more ships. Only one fleet is ever deployed at a time, and the number of ships increases by 10 for every 750-1 billion people.

Secondly, are you referring to your skipper torpedoes? If so, you never fired them. You made it a specific note that you launched them at Cf's ships, and I assumed that was all you launched them at. By the way you launched them, you made it appear they are special. I can't read any such note of you launching them, only that you attacked.

Now, you've been firing at my ships for only a short amount of time. You just advanced straight into them with their shields overlapping, their most powerful ship at the forefront to absorb the most damage, a ship of which there is only two in my nation (Which gives an insight into their firepower/shielding), a heavy cruiser, all the other ships positioned behind it to fire at incoming projectiles, and you honestly expect them to do major damage considering all the factors? . As I've said, I'm trying to go for a fleet similar too that of Kanuckistan and Cf here, and there is five ships right there, which is a larger prescence than anyone else, all combining their firepower to blast away the attack. This is also taking into account you said the fleet was, "A lesser threat" in relation to CF's destroyer, and so you sent a reduced prescence against it. So that's even less than 1/4 of your fleet, against 1/2 of mine, essentially. I've covered all the countermeasures we took - overlapping shields, leaving the weaker ships at the back so they can pour countermeasure fire into oncoming torpedoes and firepower while they aren't at major risk of being hit, etcetera. What honestly am I expected to do? You could have hit the flanks of frigates and destroyers, causing the formation to break up, you could have fired on the sides, flanked them, come at them from above, below, everywhere at once. That would have massively increased the damage you had done, but you did nothing. No grand strategy whatever - and that is just as essential as numbers and technology.

I'll edit the figures if you want, however. As for your own damage figures, I'd say that's about right for a volley or two. However, I did aim my entire Capital ships fleets's heavy weapons at your carriers, but the casulatiess should be fine, as we only fired two volleys. But I do believe exactly what I say, and you made no real attempts to even try anything other than firing at my vessels with your weapons. That is hardly an effective method of inflicting damage, and did nothing to Central Facehuggeria, (until you concentrated firepower) either.

IC:

You have earned my respect, Hauptmann General Isha Awak . For this, and only because you, and only you, have earnt my countries respect this day, you alone shall know my name. This is a trust of greater respect than you know. My name is Ka, and you have it as my word that we shall not return to attack your empire, unless you commit uneeded genocide again. Next time, should you wish to offload some unwanted people, give them to us - we will take them for you, at our expense. Such measures are effective, and efficient, and prevent future conflict.

However, we would like to know what you are planning to do with the other agressor species, before we leave. They are just as capable of attacking us as well, and have attacked a peaceful vessell that is assisting you. We are also willing to help devise a countermeasure against that virus, should it strike. Just contact me, the details are already arranged.

Ka smiled. The battle had been relatively easy, and there was much data to collect and analyse. And next time they met, if a next time occured, such data would prove useful.

Xenonier, half of it was the fact that you were basicly just laughing off his attacks; atleast RP as if the enemy is a threat - makes it feel less one-sided; remember, the other guy probally won't enjoy being slaughtered, and the idea is for both sides to have fun.

Of course, Feazanthia is also around three times your size; by the numbers, that would give his 1/4 total fleet a 56% overall edge over your 1/2 total fleet.

Or,

331 of 662 million(Xenonier)
vs
517.5 of 2070 million(Feazanthia)

'course, he didn't send all of that at you, so you'd probally have a minor advantage at first, until he could bring his other forces to bear after CF left.

Now, CF has nearly 3 billion. I have 4.7 billion. Call a 'plate as worth twice a fortress, that makes a BP 700m(3x = 2100) and a 'fort 350(7x = 2450), with change for the small fry(148m); now, would you enjoy it if a pair of Battleplates marched through your nation and scoured you from the face of the galaxy with utter impunity and laughed off your attacks? I didn't think so.

'course, that's just sticking steadfastly 'by the numbers'; I doubt anyone actually counts how many points their ships are worth like that.

The Cylons halted attacks, and the message came to the ships they had just been firing apon.

We apologize that we may not give out infomation on where we come from. It is a mistake that was made on our behalf, the Two origional Basestars moved to attack, they moved to the nearest warship not of our new allies not realising they where attacking. Already the siuation is being fixed, and compensation will be sent, although we know that because of your technology, you suffered minimal losses. Captians are being exacuted as we speak.

Going stricly by those numbers is hardly accurate. It also doesn't take into account what Feazanthian just admitted, that his ships are heavy on firepower and low of defense. That means my ships would destroy his much quicker, thereby reducing incoming firepower. Of course, there is also random elements, variables, and etcetera which screw everything over. As for atitude, it's interesting, but the damage would accumulate, I can promise that. That battle would have probably resulted in Feazanthia forcing my destroyers and escort to retreat, and finally my cruiser, after taking heavy casulaties to his own fleet. Then I would probably say the same diplomatic thing, and offer reparations. As we saw, constant wore down CF ,and would do so to my own vessels. I'm merely pointing out my fleet is larger, and features an even heavier vessel that was placed to absorb the barrage, and this was never acknowledged.

But, that just proves he fallacy of numbers alone. They won't take into account how difficult it is to position a large fleet to get all their weapons to fire, the role of fighters, bombers, gunships. All I meant was - yes, he can win, but it's not going to happen in the first five minutes of a dogfight, and particularly if Feazanthian doesn't even have a plan, nor working strategy to even get around my defences, and I saw none. Not even Skipper torpedoes.

On the same line, if your two Battleplates attacked my nation in an attempt to wipe it from the galaxy, you wouldn't be happy if they made no mention of getting past decoys, fighter screens, countermeasures and overlapping shields to actually attack you, and then, as they were blown away because they presented no strategy, no plan, and advanced right into the teeth of your superior ships, thereby squadering their numerical advantage to some extent, you'd probably be a little iffy if that was called foul as well.

OOC:
Oh of course I don't expect folks to play by the numbers like that; that's why I included something of a disclaimer.

And it is not "difficult ... to position a large fleet to get all their weapons to fire." Cause, yaknow, space is big; it's real easy to shift to the side and shoot around your buddies.

As for tactics, well, you do know that 'frontal assault' is a valid strategy, correct? Given that his ships are weighted to the offence, it would seem something that his commanders would be weighted towards - and a solid choice when faced with what you percive to be an inferrior force, as it pretty much insures victory and minimises elements of chance, albeit with casualties higher than they could be with more elegant tactics and a measure of luck; maneuvering such as you sugest against an unknown foe also invites unwelcome suprises, as you'd realisticly still be feeling out their abilities and methods - I know that my first tactic against a new foe isn't much different, save that I perfer the long-range aproach.

You've actually pretty much said why I took so little damage - while a frontal assault is a valid strategy, I clearly stated my ships were aligned to be strong on a front, to prevent such an attack, and anyone could have seen I was trying to get my fleet equivilent to yours and Cf's in firepower. Therefore, a frontal assault, against an enemy who has superior ranged firepower, with ships that aren't so great in the defense, without a co-ordinated attack, where the enemy is ready to jump on your from all sides and pour firepower into you as you advance, achieves little.

And it is easy to fit ships in, but it takes time, and careful manouvering, and that's the impression I didn't get from Feazanthia.

Except that you're a comparitivly tiny nation, and Fuzz-face there is thrice your size; the throw weight of what you were facing was probaly around or superrior to your own firepower.

Just because you're taking the quality > quantity aproach to the extream, doesn't mean that you can't be battered in a frontal assault.

I'm not complaining about the actual damage you took, simply how you seemed to react; like you had a columb of M1A1 Abrams in the feild and the enemy had shown up with Shermans.

Nooo; space is fricken big - 'pinch of sand in a bucket of water' being a rather conservitive metaphore. Unless they were packed in tight, they'd probally have to make a special effort to obscure each others' lines of fire to any note worthy degree. And with torpedos, they can just skirt around friendly ships.

And I can't imagine that they'd fly into battle in a formation that purposfully obscured their lines of fire. In fact, open formations are far more probible, as they allow ships to maneuver as desired within a formation without bunching up or obscuring active fire lines.

The only advantage a tighter formation has is with overlapped defences.

And the Tighter formation is exactly what I did. Feazanthia would have to expend significant firepower to get through it, and his ships, which supposedly have weak defence, would suffer for it. As for atitude, I think the reason this issue approaches is actually because of the methods my people use to communicate. There is no backchatter, because I have made it so my people receive communciation through a network system, which is updated to the nanosceond with new data. Ie, Ka is never going to ask his weapons operator what is going on, because he already knows. Plus, with Xenonians living for a very long time, and rarely, if ever dying, they tend to have the "well, the chances of actually dying are very low, so lets do it" approach to life - they don't fear death, they have faced it before, and fear, and doubt only causes weakness. Finally, in this situation, for example - Ka knows he can't really come out a major loser if not for a massive twist of fate. Sure, the Feazanthians will wear him down eventually, but he knows exactly how much damage he can inflict by then, and every ship he destroys lessens the firepower he faces.

Secondly, He saw how the Feazanthian fleet struggled to defeat the single Heavy Destroyer of Central FaceHuggeria. From what he saw, his ships match up roughly the same, per designation, and he has more, which not only means each one is harder to kill, but he can inflict more damage, thereby lessening the damage he takes in turn.

A better way of putting it would be Ka has 10 Abrams, facing down a horde of shermans. He's in a tightly defended position, and knows that the Shermans struggle to defeat, and catch his own, because he just saw a Leclerc (Or whatever) take the attacks of many of them in it's stride, so he knows he can do even more damage, and knows he has a good chance of getting away in one piece. He is also being doing this for decades, and he knows his soldiers are brilliant - he has been with them his entire life, and they know and "love" him, and he "loves" them.

FYI, my Heavy Destroyers are my third most powerful ships, weighing in at a little over six kilometers, and packing enough conventional firepower to blast a planet to nothingness without using the special weapons.

Oh, and Kanuckistan, I'm working on a post. It's not easy to come up with a way to say that all but two of the drones have been either destroyed or diverted. :P

OOC: Well, that's just ironic, because my own Destroyers are exactly the same in terms of class. The Xenonian vessels don't have a heavy or light version of destroyer, but it simply goes from Destroyer - Cruiser - Dreadnought. (Which is drydocked and will never be brought out until I reach around 1.8 - 2.5 Billion pop, as this thing is beyond powerful) However, my ships are smaller than yours, simply because I could never understand the point of such large ships. I might increase my ship size later though.

And Feazanthia, may I enquire as to where you got that picture for your corvette in your ship thread? Simply put, it is awesome, and I know I've seen something like it before.
