RNN news...
After many years of feeding, clothing, and generally keeping prisoners alive at the expense of the public's taxes, Ratheia has finally decided to replace the prison system with something a little more economically viable.
This new system will involve the totaly destruction of all Ratheian Prisons and the transfer of all prisoners to specialized labor camps depending upon their crime. The less the crime, the less difficult the work. And vice versa. Criminals who would normally be eligible for capital punishment and over 50 years in prison will be set to work in the powerful Uranium Mining Industry. Others will be transfered to felling trees in Northern Ratheia, mining granite in southern Ratheia, and assorted jobs that require more free labor.
The money that would normally go to the prison industry will be given to healthcare and other services. The prisoners will pay for their clothing and food with work, or they will simply be allowed to starve to death in their cells, says Antaoliy Savaron, current Head of the Prison Department.
The first of these labor camps is set to open within the month. The project should be complete within a year.
