Rise of Rome (Modern World only)

Doomingsland

In the 1970’s, a wave of religious zeal and nationalism began to spread across the Italian peninsula. An aspiring young general had been secretly plotting to overthrow the democratically elected government and turn it into a dictatorship. This would be no ordinary dictatorship, however, for he promised many things. One thing was the unification of Church and State, to effectively turn the nation into a moralistic, crimeless paradise. The second was to reestablish the old Roman Empire.

In ’76, he made his move, forcing the president and prime minister to abdicate and surrender full control of the nation to him. His first act was to declare himself Emperor and Caesar, replacing the parliament with a senate. At his command, word of this was spread throughout the land, and was welcome at first. The people expected this to make the country strong once more, maybe even bring it up to superpower status. In that they were mistaken.

A shadowy order of secret police known as the Inquisition had quietly begun to round up heretics: communists, socialists, and leftists in general, and forcing them to confess to outrageous accusations, such as raping animals. This worked well politically for the new Emperor, now called Maximus. Slowly but surely, Italy went back 2,000 years…

After a few years, the schools began to teach Latin rather than Italian, and Latin names became increasingly popular, all while the system of law and order received a major overhaul. Executions were now done either by burning at the stake, or in the newly restored coliseum, now once again used for blood sports. Slave labor became increasingly common.

As this was happening, the military slowly began to build up. Finally, in 1989, Italy (now referred to as Rome) announced it had nuclear weapons. It was then the people opened their eyes, and realized what had happened. In their blind nationalism, their nation had been transformed into a theocratic police state. But it was too late. The Emperor was now 100% in control, and there was nothing for the people to do but embrace the power that came with it. They were now living like Romans in ancient times but in a modern world.

Now Rome was slowly making its way onto the International Stage, ready to once again take part in European and world affairs.

The Quinntonian government no doubt has little outward diplomatic ties with this nation, mostly due to its use of slave labour. Even though this slave labour was not racially motivated, as in ancient Rome, slaves could be of all colours, it was seen as repugnant in Quinntonia. Quinntonia, hoping it was a phase was slow in bringing action against this reactionary state, but with the announcement about nuclear waepons in 1989, had brought full economic sanctions agianst them.
This had also lead to many vieled threats against the Ceaser if he were to move politically or militarily against the Vatican, as 45 million Quinntonians were loyal Catholics.
There has been a full invasion plan at the Pentagon if this should need to happen since 1991.

OOC-I just want to make one thing clear, you may not claim the Vatican as your territory, nor speak for the Pope. We have had this discussion before, and that will not do.

((He, I guess John Paul III, is kind of like a neutral non-entity. Of course, he supports the Holy Leauge, which is devoted to his protection. I imagine you would have a similar, if closer, relationship with him. WELCOME ABOARD!!))

Versailles was overjoyed. Within a day, M. de Vergennes, Minister of State to His Most Christian Majesty, was on Monarch One on his way to Urbe Aeternum. Louis XX, as a show of good will, declared an 'open border-open trade' policy with Rome at once.

It was no secret that M. de Vergennes brought the paperwork nessicary to bring Rome into the Holy Leauge, and it was Louis' great hope that Caesar Maximus would be of like mind.

M. de Vergennes came with offers of marriage to the Bourbon family and the Caesae vitae. Louis XX was very much interested in a religious visit, and wished to make a pilgrimage to Rome with Caesar as a show of staunch Catholic solidarity.

I don't think anyone RPs the pope, that wuld just cause way too much fighting. Especially since up to now, Quinntonia and France both had probably the most influence, and they were diametrically opposed to the idea that the other one would control such an importnat figure. Hell, I don't even choose to speak for the Patriarch. It's just too messy.

IC-Tsar Wingert I has already put his signature on anything that would include Rome in the Holy League, but urges Rome to begin to phase out the outmoded idea of slavery and return to a much more civilised serfdom. If nothing else, that very human rights abuse will make the Holy League an international pariah.

In fact, his signatory is allowed only with the promise that Ceaser Maximus will begin the end of slavery in his nation, showing the international community how progressive and merciful a true ruler can be.
The reasoning for this is simple, it is not as though Tsar Wingert cares for the poeple who are slaves, he just sees this as a human rights war that would be the defining thing that would unite Beth Gellert, Hindustan, NATO and all the Communist powers against Rome in much the same way that Bonstock was united against, leading to its demise by massive international attacks.

The Estenlandian ambassador to Rome is Piotr Wuijiick. He is a bright, energetic young man, who is related closely to the Wingerts by blood. He is strange in the elite of the Imperial government because he did not fight in the revolution, he wasn't old enough, at less than 30, he was only 8 or 9 when fighting ended and the Soviets withdrew from Ukraine. His father, however, was one of the most decorated officers in the Imperial Revolutionary Army and lost his life taking an assasins bullet for Wingert. His mother died soon after, having spent most of the revolution after the children were born near Chernobyl, another Soviet tragedy visited upon Ukraine.
He was the youngest of a huge family of 12, and each and every one of his brothers were killed in the revolution, with his three directly eldest siblings, his only sisters and him sent to Poland to be raised and educated. A KGB bomb attack killed his sisters, leaving him the only surviving member of his family. So, when Wingert began returning family titles and holdings and rewarding loyalty after the revolution, this very young boy became one of the most wealthy in the nobility, and has used his position and the debt that Wingert feels for the boy to his utmost advantage. He now has gained for himself this position, and since he is fluent in Latin, Italian and Polish, he is seen as a good choice for the positions of Ambassador to the Vatican and Ambassador to Rome. He is also Ukrainian Catholic, a hold-over from his days in Poland, and has visited the Vatican many times already.

He does urge that we perhaps call this puishment of criminals forced labour and not slavery, as that would more accurate.

M. de Vergennes landed in Rome International Airport. Along with his honorguard of Switzers, he travels to the Imperial Palace itself.

He purposes that Caesar Maximus be admitted at once to the Holy Leauge, provided the small proviso of "slaves" being called "serfs" was adapted to. Semantics of course, but nessicary ones to be sure.

His Most Christian Majesty Louis XX was prepared himself to come to Rome forthwith, having had a great desire to partake of Mass with the Emporer, and assure him of Frances amitic intententions.

Rome was warned, however, that United Elias was an Anglo affiliated power, and if Caesar Maximus chose to ally himself in any way to that organization, entrance into the Holy Leauge, and respect among the reactionary powers, would be impossible.

That said, Louis XX was prepared at once to sign Rome into the Holy Leauge, the to aforesaid provisions the only stipulations. After all, it was only natural that two staunch Catholic powers should unite, and together force the Mediterranian into a Reactionary pond.
Roycelandia
24-02-2005, 02:02
To say that Roycelandia wasn't a religious nation would be an understatement. To put it another way: The Roycelandian Empire is almost certainly the only place in AMW where Major Religious Texts can be found in the "Fiction" section of most Libraries and Bookstores.

Whilst officially Atheist (ar at least agnostic), Roycelandia somehow managed to form strong alliances with Religious nations by simply not mentioning God/Allah at Formal Dinners or the like. Anyone who enquired as to Roycelandia's Spiritual State would find themselves getting fairly glib answers like "Oh, much the same as the physical one! But seriously, how about last week's Cricket Match?" or "Hey, look- it's Elvis!" before the Roycelandian speaker found some excuse to disentangle themselves from the conversation.

One of the more embarrassing events in Roycelandian History concerned a Roycelandian Vanuatu publishing house which decided to publish copies of The Bible, The Koran, and the collected writings of the various Buddhas. At the time, this was hailed as an excellent idea by most sensible and civilised people, and large sums of money were set aside by the Government to cover the printing and distribution of said Texts.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of research or proof-reading, these Holy Books came out making extensive reference to Jebus, Allan, Stan, and Bubba, as opposed to Jesus, Allah, Satan, and Buddha.

Anywhere else in the world, this would, naturally, create a public outrage not seen since a certain Mr. Hitler decided Poland would be much better off as part of the Third Reich.

In Roycelandia, however, no-one noticed. The Texts were reprinted (correctly), but since over a million copies of "The Roycelandian Versions"- as the misprinted Texts are now known- had been distributed, the damage had been done, and it's not unusual to find disaffected teenage goths, punks, and alternative music bands making frequent references to how "Stan" is just "misunderstood". Roycelandia's famous Angry Thrash Metal band "Hell's Irate Puppies" even released a song called "Stan is my Co-Pilot", although it is widely beleived they were either taking the piss or making a valid political point, rather than simply not bothering to do their research, or at least employ a decent sub-editor.

All this is a very roundabout way of saying that Roycelandia doesn't really understand the idea of Organised Religion (the closest Roycelandia has come to a spiritual leader recently was the time His Imperial Majesty Emperor Royce I attended a fancy dress party as The Pope), but there are religious people in Roycelandia (as there are everywhere) who will be very sympathetic towards France and Rome...

Rome International Airport, Rome

As de Vergennes stepped off of his aircraft he was met by blaring trumpets and cheering crowds who tossed flowers at him. A senator was there to greet him, along with a platoon of the Praetorian Gaurd.

"Ave, friend of Rome. You honor us with your presense. Come, I shall take you before the Emperor, and we shall discuss the terms of our glorious entrance into the Holy League." he said, motioning for the diplomat to follow him to an awaiting limo.

((Dont worry, Chiisu, I got 'your back'.))

M. de Vergennes, Minister of State to His Most Christian Majesty Louis XX, waved happily to the crowd as he exited the aircraft. His bewigged and powdered form stood out like a sore thumb among the Romans, but all smiled when they saw his large golden crucifix.

"Salve, Amici! Si Vales, Valeo! Pax tecum, frater meum!" Vergennes greeted zestily.

Taken in the limo, he smiled as they sped down the Eternal Cities streets on their way to Caesar Maximus. Vergennes would speak to the Senator of his delight at Romes immenent entrance into the Holy Leauge.

He purposed a "Congress of Rome" whereat the Holy Leauge would be appended to include Rome and Tsarist Russia, as well as stipulating poor exiled King Glenn as a 'honarary fellow', and declaring him the sole legal ruler of Tord.

This would in effect transform the Holy Leauge from two to five powers, a reactionary alliance that spanned Europe. As a gesture courtesy, Louis XX had already declared the Gallic/Roman border a 'open border-open trade' zone.

If this suited His Imperial Highness Caesar Maximus, the Congress would begin forthwith, and the heartland of Holy Mother Church would stand proudly by her valiant children.

If Caesar assented, no doubt His Most Christian Majesty Louis XX, His Orthodox Highness Tsar Wingert I, and King Ivan I of Russia would be in Urbum Aeternum within the week.

Twould be a hell offa party.

The Northern Nation States Government has noted with some dismay the swift rise of the new Roman government and its swift adoption of slavery and Nuclear weaponry. While not morally obectionable, slavery as punishment is not something to be undertaken lightly and we fear that a swift adoption of this policy followed by an anouncment of nuclear weapons can only be an indicator of a possibly unbalanced and hostile government. To ensure this is not the case we have sent Johnathan Fredericks, A senior member of our State department and one of the few Ambassadors fully qualified to speak directly on behalf of the Protectorate's government, to ensure that The Protectorate of Northern Nation States interests and security concerns are not compromised by the new Roman government.

-Government Response-
The Russian government of Vladimir Putin directs towards Rome the same attitude as it does to all Holy League nations: Anger, frustration, but a realization that they are indispensable. Making peace with the Tsarists (both in Ukraine and the enclave in Russia) is highly necessary for survival, so the President Putin simply gave a blank statement on his jet which was en route to Xiaguo, encouraging economic cooperation and placing a cheap plug for Russian oil and arms.
______________________________________________________________
-Tsarist Enclave's Response-
Tsar of Western Russia (OOC: Ivan IS NOT his name. You confuse him with his barrel chested lackey. And he will not submit to the lowly title of king. Russian rulers have been traditionally called Tsars, and he will be no different. Of course, in a practical sense, he is subservient to Wingert, but in theory he's still a Tsar.) Igorij Romanov will be attending, ready to consolidate his position as one of the major powers of Europe. At this event, he would also whisper into Count Falkenstein's ear that a few ceremonial garments of the Tsar would be welcomed, to give him the appearance of a true Tsar, as well as he would announce his plans for the Province Of Western Russia. In a speech, he plans to lavish praise upon the Holy League for its assistance to his proud people, and to encourage them to help him "rebuild" the educational system. (In other words, a Mao-like cult of personality needed to be built.) Also, Estenlandian forces would continue their training of a new Tsarist military, whose priorities would be to provide security for the Tsar's nuclear arsenal, to control of the disloyal populace, and to serve a first line of defense in case Putin ever feels the need to clamp down. Romanov planned as well to praise God and the Tsar for the economic rebirth the Tsarist lands were experiencing, and would drop subtle hints that perhaps France and Rome could consider pumping a few more dollars into the Tsarist economy, as the Estenlands had already made a drastic sacrifice.

_________________________________________________________________
-Historical Background-
Strangely enough, Fascist Rome had not only oppressed millions, slaughtered innocents, and enslaved countless beings, it had also...saved the world. Yes, unbeknownst to the the vast majority of those who trudge on this mudball called Earth, a certain Russian General, whose nickname had been "Red Leader" (OOC: Hint, hint to all those who have read my previous RPs...) had meticulously planned a coup to end all coups. His maniacal plan would have not only saved the Soviet Union, but ensured Soviet dominance in the Eastern hemisphere for decades. Through years of manipulation, "Red Leader" was ready to spring, with a combination of an elite private army and the mass of the crumbling, yet still gigantic Russian military. His plan was to reduce nuclear arsenals in Europe with diplomacy, and then in a desperate gambit, to sweep across Europe through sheer force, with scorched earth tactics. Spies in France and Britain guaranteed enough delays of the impending nuclear strikes to allow the Soviet Army to seize Europe. With Europe captured, and the US unwilling to unleash nuclear armaggedon, (which was due to a combination of subversive Communist elements at home, and unwillingness to unleash nuclear hell without a direct attack on the US) the "Red Leader" then planned to use his armies to decapitate the weak armies of North Africa and the Middle East. With Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East under its control, the USSR would have undeniable might in the region, especially since the oil reserves (remember, this was long before the Tar Sands project) would force the US to concede. (Especially since the "Red Leader" was willing to turn the Middle East into glass if the US interfered.) However, this nightmare scenario came not to pass, thanks to the Imperial Rome. The Red Leader seized power in a secret coup in 1989, but the development of Italian nuclear weapons made the Russians realize that any advance into Europe from Berlin would be quickly flanked, by two nuclear powers, one of which had a huge military. And thus, the "Red Leader" was deposed as quickly as he rose to power, leaving him to fade into the shadows...

As the armored limo pulled up in front of the Senate Chambers where the Caesar was consulting his most trusted advisers, a Praetorian threw open the massive oak doors to the chamber and declared the entrance of the French/ Gallic diplomat. As he stepped through the threshhold into the vast chamber, trumpets blared and the senators cheered. Suddenly, the Emperor stood, his ceremonial armor gleaming in the light, his blade sitting at his side.

"Ave, friend." he said in a loud, commanding voice to M. de Vergennes, "it honors us that you have chosen to consider the Imperium for entrance into the Holy League. We have already decided that we shall now refer to the slaves as 'serfs', and need only the proper papers to sign."

Grand Congress of the Holy Leauge

Be it known the following:

By the Grace of God and the will of his servants, there is to commence in one week a Grand Congress of the Holy Leauge to be held in the Courtyard of St. Peters, Rome. Invitations have already been sent to His Most Christian Majesty Louis XX, His Imperial Orthodox Highness Tsar Wingert I, Grand Prince Massad and King Ivan I. Caesar Maximus will have the honor of hosting the Congress. Additionally, King Glenn I, currently 'incarcerated', has been given a honorary invitation. The Agenda will be as follows:

1) Ratification of the Holy Leauge to include: Caesar Maximus and King Ivan I (possibly Grand Prince Massad of Al-Ahzad).

2) Statement of force announcing King Glenn as the true suzerain of Tord and honorary member of the Holy Leauge, and a plan to place him again on the throne.

3) Ratification of Holy Leauge Defense Pact* to include: Caesar Maximus and King Ivan I (possibly Grand Prince Massad of Al-Ahzad).

* Defense Pact stipulates the following:
-In the event of Internal Revolution, each of the signed powers agree to send troops to their ally(ies) for the purpose of squelching any revolt.
-In the event of External War, each of the signed powers agree to send troops to their ally(ies).
-In the event of any danger to the body or property of the Holy Catholic or Orthodox Church (possibly may be appended to include the Tordian/Ahzadi Churches) the Holy Leauge members vow to send troops and defend Their Holinesses as needs be.
-Leauge members swear to coordinate a consistent foreign policy in order to ensure the health and well being of the pan-global forces of the Ancien Regime.

May God continue to defend the Right, and aid his servants in the Reactionary struggle against the forces of hell!

I think I'll rope a lady friend of mine into doing Putin's portrait, as my drawings aren't exactly realistic (God has yet to bless me with talent), and the real Putin is such a scumbag I really wouldn't want to use the photo...

Tsar Wingert I

I am just assuming that Archduke Piotr Wuijiick II, Burgomiester of Sevestapol, would probably already be maintaining quite an impressive estate in Rome, and with this appointment, that will serve as the embassy for Tsarist Estenlands, and de facto embassy for all the Tsarist provinces and vassals. His Royal Majesty, King of Tsarist Russia, Igorij Romanov I can be brought here where there is an entire wing of the palacial estate ready for his arrival, and I am also assuming that a small amount of gaurds have been flown in to see to the security of the place, which was handled quite capably up till now by local security firms that normally serve Senators and their families. Becuase of his understanding of the local culture and flavour, he brings in 100 crack troops to complement his securtiy force of about 20 local proffessionals. That would make him a faux Centurian, as a commander of a Century of troops. The locals will be phased out slowly and Piotr hires a battery of local etiquette and language teachers who will begin to drill the soldeirs rigerously in Latinm then Italian and local manners and customs.

By telling you all of this I am just saying his coming will most likely be in a limo rather than a jet. He will wait at his estate and, assuming that Rome recognising it as official embassy status, he and His Majesty will leave from her to whatever events they attend, and retire to its luxury and security at night.

Oh, and he would be more than happy to worship with your majesties at the Vatican, though I can't say the same about poor Igorij Romanov, who is most likely of Orthodox, if any faith, and though Vatican II began to heal those rifts, he is still an ex-communicated Catholic in the eyes of the papacy.

M. de Vergennes would be dropped off by motorcade at the Archdukes generous palace.

Vergennes came to smoosh with His Most Christian Majesties Estenlandian relations, hoping to grease the wheels of the signing. More gifts were brought. As a side issue, when the Archduke and Vergennes were alone, le Comte would inquire as to Jillesopones pregnency. Surely the brith would be immenent: to Wingerts, the Dauphins, and Louis overwhelming joy! Indeed, there were even rumors floating about the corridors of Versailles that perhaps even twins might be expected.

He suggests that perhaps Jillesopone could come to Rome to sign the "Trinity Pact" of the Holy Leauge.

His Majesty Louis XX intends to come in person, when the signings are near to fruition. Louis XX also sent a private message to Caesar, requesting the possibility of a Papal Mass (something he is very keen for) upon his arrival in Rome.

What happened there?

Piotr was delighted to have such an important surprise visit and immediately ordered that arrangements be made for M. de Vergennes and his retinue. He explained that there was to be a feast at the estate tonight, in honor of His Majesty King of Tsarist Russia, Igorij Romanov I, who was expected within the hour. Piotr also assured that if all of his governments concerns were met, there would be a visitor from the royal family to do the official signing. Though, he confided that to hope that Jillesepone could make such a strenous travel would be hit and miss, and Wingert had only ever made one state visit outside of Ukraine, all the other visits he had made to foriegn nations had been to lead troops. But, there was no telling, as the Estenlandian government places the highest priority on Rome as a trading partner and military ally. Perhaps, if the Lavragerian negotiations, which seem to be dragging on because of the damnable British, come to a close, one could never tell, perhaps Princess Adrienna, Wingerts younger daughter could be called back from the front, where she is commanding Army Group B, and facing down the TBF forces, as well as fighting the damned Lavragerian barbarians who won't recognise the cease-fire.
Piotr pleads with Monsuier that he personally ask Louis XX for forgiveness on behalf of the nobility of Estenlands, for the long departure of Count Falknestien to Quinntonia, as he is long overdue.

OOC-Notice the nobility is apoligising, that is diplomatic speak for, "Wingert really does need you as an ally, but cannot say anything publically for fear of looking like a French lackey. And since the Tsar would never lower himself to apolagise for so trivial a matter, the nobility, in their humility, are doing it on his behalf. Proabably on subtle orders to do it here because it is understood that there will be daily reports back to Louis XX." I love nobility, you just have to know how to speak the language.

Igorij's limousine (well, technically, it wasn't his, but the Romans'...) stopped directly at the Estenlandian estate. He was delighted to be provided a royal estate, fit for a king, and he marched on with his elite contingent of security, Ivan, and the Praetorians. The crowds grew wild with excitement, treating Igorij as some sort of exotic star. He waved to them, causing several teenaged girls to swoon, and walked across the red carpet, ready for his banquet.

((Very nice, 100% understood. So, can we admit Rome like just now? I mean D has waited a bit already. And that was a stupid over post, my bad.))

Falkenstein was truly missed in regards to his attendance at the Royal hunts, but it was understood he had pressing business in Quinntonnia, hed be welcomed back to Versailles when he returned.

Vergennes meanwhile would chat with the King and the Archduke, proposing to them that Rome ought be included in a quickly organized ceremony the next day. After all, it would be good to have Rome on board as the Lavragerian treaties were signed.

He had already done the massive Litany of Confessionals needed to recieve a Papal Mass, and was eager and willing.

M. de Vergennes, endowed with the Royal Seal of France and vested with the power of King Louis XX in this matter, stamped the document and signed France on.

Afterwards a Mass was sung, and Ceasar Maximus was presented with the Silver Invitation to the Arc de Triumph in Paris...he was encouraged to bring a full regiment of his finest Praetorians in dress uniform to attend the march ((Wingert, of course, was likewise invited)).

OOC- Simply grand. Now, Maximus and Wingert, hightail it to Paris. Well have a hell of a bash, cement the Holy Leauge, and celebrate the savory destruction of a fledgling democracy vis a vis Lavrageria. Hey Maximus, bring out the children when you come to, its time for another round of Dynastic Marriages! Oh Wingert, FYI, I posted the joyous event on Peace in Lavrageria. I hope Jillesopone can bring her twin darlings to Paris for the festivities. The rebirth of monarchy.

Igorij looked around, visibly agitated.

"Ivan, WHERE IS MY PEN?!?!"
"What pen?"
"Why are you eating my pen?"
"Uh...I thought it was an exotic Japanese dish."
"You idiot! First of all, it's a pen. Second, WE'RE IN ITALY!!!"
"That would explain why no one speaks Japanese."
"GAH! Give me the pen!"
"I already swallowed it. If you wait a few hours, I can..."
"NEVER MIND! GET ME ANOTHER PEN! And don't eat it."

After Ivan snatched a pen from a reporter, Igorij signed the document triumphantly.

As he was uninvited to the French bash, Igorij decided to unveil his contribution to the Holy League now.

"My fellow royals, my glorious Tsar, now that the Holy League has become a power of equal strength to NATO itself, I have realized that we cannot simply operate independently and keep this alliance a WWI style you-defend-me-if-I'm-attacked, and vice versa, thing. No. Everywhere across the globe, Communists and democrats seek to bring the collapse of the true Enlightened government. I propose that we build a joint military headquarters, so that we may integrate our military forces more effectively, so that when a revolutionary rebellion strikes, we can cooperatively annihilate it. As my contribution to the Holy League, I shall present to you an elite operations division that will strike fear within the hearts of revolutionaries. Allow me to introduce....COBRA!"

Suddenly, a truck drove into the middle of the conference room. Four men clambered out, as lights began to focus on them. A lean, powerful, black man with black serpent tatooos streaking across his arms and black shades donning his face was the first noticable figure.

"Yo, yo, yo! Fo'shizzle, my motherf**in' ni**z! Yeah, yeah, it's good to be in dis fresh hood. My mofo name is OG. Orginal Gangsta."

Igorij spoke again.

"OG, despite his appearance and words, is the world's premiere demolitions expert. You want something blown up, he is your man."

"That's the s*t, alright. Yeah, yeah, I'm a P.I.M.P."

The spotlight then went to a hulking Pakistani man, with a thick beard, turban, military garb, and a small backpack. Oddly enough, inside the backpack, he carried...his elderly mother.

"I am Ahmed Al-Kafeeri. I will smite the foolish infidels who dare strike against my homeland! Yiyiyiyiyiyiyiyiyiiiiiiiii!"
"Shut up, boy!"

His mother thwacked him with a stick.

"Ow! I sorry, mama! But I must battle for All---OOF!"

This time, it was Igorij who smacked the gigantic man in the chest.

"What? What for is that?"
"Your working for the Holy League now. It's Jesus."
"Jesus what?"
"Jesus, not Allah!"
"But, why?"
"Because I said so. You're now Christian, got it?"
"But..."
"Shut up!"
"Ok, Ok. I bring holy jihad upon the infidel in the name of All---err, Jesus. Yes, Jesus. Whoever he is."

"Ahem. Ahmed here used to be a Pakistani cab driver in New York, until he joined the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan. There, he converted to Is--err, Christianity---and perfected his piloting skills to the point that he can control any vehicle you throw at him."

"What? You throw something at me?"
"Please, just shut up."
"Ok."

The spotlight then turned to an elderly British gentleman, who wore the duds of an old style banker, except for the large Union Jack upon his shirt. He leaned on a cane, adjusted his monocle, and began to speak.

"Wot, wot. My name's Sir Hoogelworth, old chaps. And I'm ready to serve Her, or rather Your Majesties. I'm a Royal Marine Sniper, and am regarded as one of the best marksmen around."

The spotlight then focused on a thin, dancing, and gaunt man clad in a black jumpsuit.

"Hey...My name's Michael Jackson. My hobbies include flying around in green tights, playing with little boys, and using my brilliant tactical abilities and hand-to-hand combat skills to defeat any opponent. Yes..."

Igorij smiled maniacally, and adjusted his spectacles.

"My friends, COBRA stands for Christian Operatives Bringing Redemption Abroad. And that is exactly what they will do. Give them any challenge, any test, and they shall prove themselves to be the most elite special forces division in the world."
