Cotland annex Marshall Islands

I am taking over the Marshall Islands because of Aligned Planets falling under Decree 12 of Layarteb's Earth II rules. f you are the owner, or otherwise have a problem with me taking the Marshall Islands, don't gripe about it here. Go yell at Layarteb here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=373378) for setting up Decree 12.

Note: This is Earth II !

If you want to RP the resistance, contact me either here in the thread or via TG.

The evening breeze was calm and cooling after the boiling sun that had been burning all day. 'Just another beautiful day in the Pacific Ocean' Captain Eric Holtzman thought. His ship, the ICS 'Spitfire', was a Ynoga class light aircraft carrier, currently the flagship of the 5th Ynoga Battlegroup out off Tahiti. The battlegroup were en route to the Marshall Islands, where the government had fallen into shambles after a recent coup-de-ville gone bad. Now, his battlegroup escorted 6 troop ships carrying a total of 16 180 soldiers, a Mechanized Infantry Brigade, who were going to pretend to be peacekeepers there to secure the peace, when they were going to secretly make sure that the power never left Cottish hands. With luck, the Marshall Islands would soon be the newest province of Cotland, and Holtzman would get all the credit, being the commander of the entire operation codenamed Operation: Cossack. The spooks in Military Intelligence didn't anticipate much resistance, but to be on the safe side, two more Brigades and two more Ynoga Battlegroups were on their way three days behind the 5th Ynoga Battlegroup. Strength in numbers, that was the creed of the Imperial Cottish Navy. Strength in numbers.

The 5th Ynoga Battlegroup approached the lead island in the island chain that was the Marshall Islands, Majuro, and was met with a small fleet of frigates and gunboats, who radioed a message.

"Foreign vessels. You are intruding on our territory. Fall back or we will take action against you."

A reply was immediately sent to the locals.

"We are a Cottish naval group carrying peacekeepers and medical supplies. It is imperative that you disable your weapons systems and allow us to pass. If you continue to threathen us, we will be forced to act accordingly."

Now, they waited.

ooc: BUMP! Come on someone. Please RP the resistance...

The native warships didn't reply to the last Cottish transmission. Instead, they moved back towards Majuro and allowed the Cottish ships to pass. Soon, the Spitfire Battlegroup would be landing troops in Majuro, effectively taking control of the island. Just to make sure that the natives didn't turn on them, the soldiers would hand out food and water, build housing for them, and keep them safe from the supression of the native soldiers. Doctors would offer free medical treatment to every civilian, and several field hospitals would be established. All under the watchful eyes of more then 50 journalists from all around the world.

At 09.30, the first Cottish soldiers waded ashore at the Majuro Bridge, securing it before moving towards the old capitol complex and the MIM-104 Patriot SAM site 2 kilometers east of the bridge. Them met minimal resistance, namely overzealous police officers armed with ancient single-action revolvers. They were quickly disarmed and sent home. So far no killings had occured, and to try to make sure of that, the soldiers handed out candy, water and food to the civilian population they passed while they told them that they were there to help them. This was greeted by a friendly crowd cheering and following them, all of which was recorded by the journalists who tagged along. It was a PR stunt that worked.

At the same time, all of the Spitfire's helicopters landed at the airport, avoiding SAM attacks due to them flying 10 feet above the non-existant waves. Nothing more then a thin landing strip, it was never-the-less an important objective to secure. It was guarded by 20 soldiers, conscripts the lot of them, armed with M-16s manning the local MIM-23 Hawk site. Those soldiers were easily outnumbered by the 108 Cottish soldiers ferried in by the six Merlin helicopters. Still, the Lieutenant in command of the Cots walked over to the natve soldiers and talked to them, convincing them to lay down their arms, surrender the SAM site to the Cots and return home to their families. As a result, the airport was secured at 09.46. By now, 25% of the SAM cover of Majuro was in Cottish hands.

By now, the infantry battalion (600 soldiers) at the garrison at Laura started to move out, hearing about the invaders. Unfortunately, the conscripts were only armed with M-16s, M-60s and M-151 Jeeps fitted with M-2HB MGs, while the 88 Cottish soldiers advancing on Laura had XM-8s, M-249s and SMAW-Ds, in addition to air support in the form of an UH-1Y Huey outfitted with M-240 MGs in the side doors. Soon, there would be M998 Humvees on the island as well. The two forces would meet at the Peace Park, just out of range from the MIM-72/M48 Chapparal launchers at Laura.

Peace Park, Majuro
The soldiers of the Cottish Expeditionary Brigade took up concealed positions in the west side of the Peace Park, preparing their XM-8s, M-249s and SMAW-Ds to take out the enemy vehicles if negotiations were unsuccessful. The enemy, the Cots thought of anyone with weapons that weren't on their side of enemies, could be seen in the distance approaching fast.

Peace Park, Majuro

An officer stepped forward along with a single squad (the rest are hidden) and stopped the native forces, asking to speak with the commander of the battalion. Like if qued, a stout man appeared. He was wearing the uniform of Colonels rank, and smoked a massive Cuban sigar. The Cottish officer saluted before he presented himelf.

"I'm Captain Bruce Xander of the Cottish peacekeepers. I must ask that your men lower their weapons immediately and disband. If not, we will be forced to take action."

The Colonel looked at Captain Xander for a minute before laughing out loud.

"Do you think, Captain Bruce Xander of the Cottish INVADERS! Do you think that I will surrender to you? You have invaded my home, and you don't even have any men with you, other then that little squad over there. No, I think it is you who will surrender. Now, give me your weapon and you will be spared."

Xander whistled once before diving behind a palmtree, taking cover just as the 87 remaining Cots opened fire. The SMAWs took out most of the Jeeps while the M-249 operators and infantry mowed down enemy by enemy. Some managed to overcome the shock and return fire, but the Cots had good positions. Only 2 of the 88 Cots were killed and 49 were wounded. After five minutes of intense fighting, the Cots siezed fire and Xander yelled out.

"This is your last chance. Surrender now, and you will be treated fairly and released soon. If not, you will all die here today. It's your choise."

Most of the survivors came out with their hands above their heads, several of them were wounded. The remaining waited till their comrades were out of the line of fire before shooting. This assault were immediately followed by a rush, in which the Cots lost 19 men. Everyone in that rush were killed, shot down by the XM-8s and M-249s of the Cottish infantry.

After twelve minutes, the second wave of Cottish infantry fresh off the boats were at Peace Park. 108 rested soldiers moved in and relieved the "veterans" of the first combat actions, who got to rest a little before rushing the remaining native defenders. There, 31 prisoners were taken, including the Colonel.

A total of 261 prisoners were taken by the Cots, 147 defenders were killed in the first assault, and 192 were killed in the second assault. The friendly numbers were 21 dead, 58 wounded. Of the 88 original Cottish soldiers, only 9 came out of it without injury. The battle was successful, with victory to Cotland.

The Cottish forces recieved new orders: "Return to the ships!"

As they retreated, planes came over and bombed the enemy forces. Within 12 hours, the Cottish forces were safely back aboard their transports. It was time to return to Cottish territory. So, the 5th Ynoga Battlegroup made due haste to get out of previous Aligned Planets' territory. They would get to remain independent. For now.......
