Credonia One, Skies Above Credonia 3:05 pm CST
President Sutton sat in his office, pondering over the pros and cons of what he was about to commit Credonia to. He read over documents and reports on the various situations taking place within the continent of Africa, and as he read and reread them, his decision kept solidifying until he could no longer bear sitting around doing nothing when he had the total power to do anything he wanted. He picked up his phone and dialed a number.
”Yes Mr. President, how may I help you?” answered Melanie Mitchelson, Kaimoni’s personal secretary.
”I need you to assemble the cabinet right away please. I’ve reached a decision about what to do with Africa.”
“Right away sir!”
Kaimoni returned the receiver and sighed while leaning back in his chair. He thought a little longer about what he was about to do, but the answer was still clearly resounding in his head. Without hesitation, he organized the documents, placed them in a folder, got up with the folder in-hand and headed for the conference room. When the door opened, he realized that the cabinet was already assembled, and he stepped into the room. Everyone stood as he walked to his seat, shaking hands and making comments to his staff members before taking his seat, with the rooms occupants following suit after he was seated.
”Ok guys, I’ve been thinking long and hard about the Africa issue, and we need to act. I want to act, so we are going to. I’ve read over these reports and the details are just horrifying. People are being shot for no reason, women and children being raped, or sold into slavery and prostitution. Hunger, famine, and most importantly MASS GENOCIDE. How could we let this go on for so long? Better yet, how could we even let this happen at all? It boggles my mind, but we are in a position to fix this and bring about change in Africa, and I think its high time that we do it, so here’s what I want to do: First, I want to mobilize the Credonian Eastern and Northern armies as well as the 61st and 62nd carrier divisions. Once they are fully mobilized, I want them to ship out to Somalia and begin setting up for an all out, and I hate using this word, invasion of Africa. The word invasion doesn’t do much justice though since we aren’t really taking over nations. Our first target, if you will, is Sudan. We need to put an end to the genocide there and replace the Sudanese government, which has allowed the genocide to go on. In fact, as you are all aware, the Sudanese government is funding and arming the militias. So we will go in, destroy the militias, topple the government, let the people chose their government leaders and essentially their own government. We will provide food, clothing, medicine, and assistance rebuilding. This is our first plan of attack. Once we look like we are doing well, we will continue with the next nation. Any questions?”
The room was silent as the cabinet members looked at him, amazed at the plan.
”Sir, that’s a great plan. I give you my assurance that the Credonian military is prepared to take on such a daunting task, however, if we are going to commit a large number of our forces to such an endeavor, then we will need to increase the size of the military all together so that we can continue to have a large number of forces available for other conflicts around the world since we do have many military and political obligations.” stated Secretary of Defense Mitchell A. Ferguson.
”Very well. Double the size of our ground forces. Create four new armies, one million men each. Problem solved. If there are no further questions, you all know what to do, so get on it. I will address the world shortly.”
Kaimoni rose and immediately left the room and headed back into his office. He placed a call to his press secretary to prepare the media crews onboard for an unscripted message about his plans. After thinking hard about what he was going to say, he headed into the pressroom of the aircraft and took a seat at the desk, bearing the Presidential emblem. The cameras began rolling:
”Leaders of the world, citizens of all nations, my fellow Credonians, I come before you this afternoon to announce yet another endeavor that Credonia has chosen to embark on. Credonia is a peace-loving nation, a nation who provides for the defense of the weak, helps the poor and unable, a nation who spreads life, liberty, justice, and enables others to join in on the pursuit of happiness. Today, I announce Credonia’s intentions to do just that. On my orders, the Credonian Eastern and Northern Armies as well as the Credonian 61st and 62nd Carrier Divisions are being mobilized at this time to embark upon a campaign to provide humanitarian aid for the entire continent of Africa, a continent that the world has turned its back on because of the severity of its problems. The African people need help and assistance. They are people just as we are and it is our solemn duty to provide for them when they need help. While we have been doing that, we simply haven’t been doing enough, but today that will change. I am deploying Credonian forces to Somalia, a territory of Credonia to prepare for the provision of humanitarian aid. Our first target will be Sudan, a nation ravaged by war. The Janjaweed militia is massacring the Sudanese people to such levels, as it would be fully justifiable to classify as genocide. Credonia will put an end to that and we ask that all willing and able nations help us spread peace and tranquility throughout the African continent. Sudan is not the only nation that Credonia will be reaching out to, but it is the first step to a stable, recovering Africa. Please join us in this noble cause. We owe it to ourselves as civilized human beings and we owe it to the African people, who need us and our support.”
The camera’s stopped rolling and Kaimoni rose from his seat and went back into his office. The phone rang just as he got to his desk.
”Yes?”
“Sir, the Eastern and Southern armies are beginning their mobilizations. The 61st and 62nd Carrier Divisions are actually already mobilized.”
“Very well. Make it public.”
“its already public sir.”
“Good.”
He hangs up the phone and calls Melanie into the room.
”Yes Mr. President?”
“I’m going to attempt to get some shut-eye. See to it that no one disturbs me. If any governments respond to my message, have State Secretary Smith respond.”
“Yes sir.”
“Thanks”
Melanie quietly exits the room and closes the door behind her. Kaimoni leans back in his chair and dozes off.
