El Salvadore in trouble again: New Stamford steps in (that is, invades)

The man in the balcony picked up his sniper rifle. He had been hidden there all day, waiting for the presidental procession to go by. Finally, he heard the kind of music that was usually heard during presidental processions (boring music).

Slowly, they inched into view; five tanks, fleeted by a swarm of police and military, all walking in order. The El Salvadorian presidet had gotten his army to function properly during his reign, but he was still hated by the people. Glass bottles and rocks were sometimes thrown, and the throwers were promptly shot. People avioded the bodies.

Finally, the president came within range of the expensive rifle. The man took one last glance to see roughly where the president was. Through the scope, the president was clearly not a nice person. Scarred and surly, it was obvious he was not enjoying the reaction from the crowd. He turned, perhaps to order a mass execution, and the man pulled the trigger.

He did not see much; he had already begun putting away the rifle, but he heard the yells. Some were joyful, others fearful.

As the man walked out of the balcony, the earth began to rumble, then shake violently. Soon, it became apparent that a massive earthquake had begun. The sniper turned to run into a field, but he never made it.

Most of San Salvador (the capital) was destroyed, and chaos spread through the country. El Salvadore needed somebody to step in. Somebody perhaps from New England, with questionable POW treatment, and with ED 209 robots. That somebody is... NEW STAMFORD!

------------------

The first to arrive was a "small group of peacekeepers" (at least, that was what was in the papers) of 300 men, along with 30 of those ED 209s that were so kick-ass (as the Mayor said to the news reporters who asked why they were needed on a peacekeeping mission).

On February 21, the group landed at the port of La Libertad and began the slow trek to the ruined capital.
