Operation Red Dawn/Invasion of Moldova & The Ukraine
Hrstrovokia

Following the collapse of the Imperium, Moldova & the Ukraine have been thrown into anarchy. This anarchy and chaos have raged out of control far too long. Violent power struggles waged by increasingly militant factions across the former Imperium states have resulted in hundreds of deaths and the end of any sense of normalcy, and this violence looks set to escalate into a full-blown civil war. Without any force to unite the peoples of Moldova & the Ukraine, these states will sink further and further into political instability, violence and economic depression. In short, what is currently happening in Moldova & the Ukraine is exactly what happened to Afghanistan in the 1990s, and we all know the end result in that case.
The Soviet Socialist Republic of Hrstrovokia therefore formally annexes these states and will incorporate them into its administration as Autonomous Republics. We ask that the people of these states realize that we are not an occupying power, we are not arriving to take advantage of them or their situation. We are fellow slavic brothers, who wish to restore Moldova & the Ukraine to their former glories and usher in a new era of peace and prosperity.
UHAF units will begin crossing the border tonight at 1:00PM. We expect that the international community stand aside and not intervene, for this is a closed matter and also one of great importance to us. Resistance within and without will be dealt with swiftly.

In Moldova, the situation was very grim. President Vladimir Voronin sat at the table, with the Head of State, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev. This was an emergey meeting between the two of them, and the two of them only. The rest of Voronin's staff had no word of the meeting.
"The situation is grim, there isn't much that we can do, Vasile." Voronin stated to the Prime Minister. "I agree sir, what are we do to?" The President leaned back in his chair and stroked his chin. "If we surrender...Then we face the Ukranians who may launch an attack. The possibility of this is slim, for they also have the Hrstrovokians to worry about, but it is still a possibility. And if we dont surrender..." He cleared his throat. "You know what will happen." he continued. "Moldova will meet a certain death if we fight. You and I both know this, I am only stating the obvious."
Tarlev thought on this for a minute. He then let loose his emotions. "So it is setteled then? We are to surrender just like that? Just give up what we have worked so hard on? All the work that we have accomblished since the fall of the Soviet Union? I will not stand for it!" Voronin looked at Tarlev as though he had just been betrayed. "You cannot be serious!?" Voronin asked. "If we do not surrender now, then it will be too late, and you and I both know that we will face certain prosecutions if we do not hand over Moldova this instant." Voronin knew that surrendering would be a blow to his pride, and to his popularity with the people. But would they rather it be fought out, on their doorstep? He prepared a speach.
Several hours later, on a television address to his nation, and to Hrstrovokia, Voronin was speaking. President Viktor Yushchenko was alerted, and managed to catch the tail end of Voronin's address.
"...And so it is, without delay, that I, President Vladimir Voronin, hand the nation of Moldova, its land, and armed forces over to the nation of Hrstrovokia. I urge my fellow citizens to lay down their arms and not to fight, for it will just bring certain death and destruction to you, and what you and all that you have worked for."
This was a complete suprises to Yushchenko. He was almost certain that Voronin would join him in fighting back the Hrstrovokian skum. But now, he, along with the rest of the Ukrainians were to fight off the Hrstrovokians. He was a true leader, he did not falter, he did not hesitate, and he surely did not dream. For, he knew that fighting would bring a certain death to him and many in his nation, but fight he must, and fight he would.
He ordered a draft in effect. Every available man, between the ages of 18 and 30 was to be drafted in an effort to save the Ukraine. Many of these men knew they would die, and fled across the border into Hrstrovokia, to safety. Any who were caught trying to dodge the draft were shot on the spot. But some, willingly knew they would die, but yet they stayed to fight. For them, the Ukraine was their homeland. It was not only their life, but their way of life. And they were proud of it. It was men like these that would be a problem for the Hstrovokians.

I recognise Hrstrovokia's claim on Moldavia and The Ukraine. I'd also like to point out that in English, a word can't have three straight consonants unless it begins with a 's'. How an I supposed to pronounce that name?
Hurstrovokia perhaps? Not too hard to work out.

Statement to Hrstrovokia from the Grand Imperium of Risban
In hopes of avoiding future conflicts and promoting peace, the Risban Empire will aid the SSRH by funding their conquest of Moldova and the Ukraine with $15 Billion. A reparation, if you will, for the funding against Hrstrovokia in the near-World War Three Crisis.

There are now over 17,000 troops participating in Operation Red Dawn as the invasion continues. Following the surrender of the Government of Moldova, Hrstrovokia has occupied the small East European state. The vanguard of UHAF forces entered the capitol, Chisnau, on Wednesday last week, and staged a triumphant parade through the main streets of the city. The people of Moldova are expressing their relief and joy over the end of hostilities with nationwide celebrations of the new union between the SSR and Moldova.
Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gussev commented that he was "glad Moldova had been taken without bloodshed, and I greatly regret the stubborn and futile decision of the Ukrainian Gov't, but the sooner that the totalitarian regime in Kiev is toppled, the sooner real democracy can flourish free in the Ukraine."
So now that Moldova is occupied, UHAF Generals are now focusing their entire attention toward the Ukraine. Approximately 5,000 reserve troops will arrive in Moldova as part of the SSR army of occupation, releasing the 17,000 troops now stationed there to progress with Operation Red Dawn and take the Ukraine.
An armoured thrust is projected towards L'viv, Vinnytsya and Odessa, where already there have been several battles fought by elements of the 111th Airborne Btn. UHAFSK have made much use of Hrstrovokia's Helicopter assets. AH-64s continue to strike the outdated T series of tanks with impunity, but the more recent versions such as T-80UDs are more troublesome, being equipped with Anti-Helicopter munitions. UH-60s are constantly ferrying fresh reinforcements and supplies to the frontlines.
It is expected that once L'viv and Odessa fall, the airports and railheads inside the cities will be used to move more troops into the interior of the Ukraine, thus they are strategic objectives of the UHAFSK. F-15Es have had few engagements, though several encounters with Su-22s of the Ukrainian Air Force passed without fights. The UAF seems reluctant to attack Hrstrovokian forces, and this is largely because of the massive Air Defense element in our armies.
Marines began landing via Helicopters in the Crimea late last night near the city of Sevastopol'. Around 4,000 Marines will land from the Shrike class Aircraft Carriers in the Black sea. This seems to represent the final possible additions to Operation Red Dawn forces in the field. The UHAFSK believes in fighting the War in the Ukraine with the least forces possible, thus reducing deaths and costs. Gen. Gussev has made know his decision that the UHAF does not need to win the War this month, or within another 12. "The Ukraine will fall, it is only a matter of pressure and time, and the forces available can achieve that. There is no need to escalate the killing, it is Counter-Insurgency that we should focus on."
Minister of Defense Alexi Mrak rejected the offer of Risbanian aid on the grounds that "we simply dont need it, though it is a very generous offer, we must decline." There seems to be a easing of tensions between the Hrstrovokian and Risbanian Gov'ts following the re-establishment of diplomatic contact.

The war was comming dangerously close. "Oh well," Yeshechenko though. This is what he opted for, when he refused to surrender. He knew that the war would be brought to his back door, and every other door and window that it could present itself. He knew that there was no way they could possibly win against and army as formidable as the Hrstrovokian military without outside help. But, if he went for outside help, it would result in more bloodshed, which would be on his hands. He didn't want this. He didn't want any blood to be shed upon his account. But bloodshed was inevitable.
All across the country cities and targets were hit. His outdated tanks were falling faster and faster. His armies were no match for the strength, and wittiness of the Hrstrovokians, no could he match their technological advantage. He was in a serious rut, that he was unable to get out of. He knew he would most likely die, and be the last person to rule Ukraine as an independent state. At least his name would go down in history for that.
All the Ukrainian army could do was sit and wait for the massive invasion. Then they knew they would die, which wasn't a morale booster. However, knowing that they were going to die, wasn't after all a bad thing. All across the nation, thousands of men volunteered to fight for their homeland. Men of all ages. Men fighting for the country farm, or for their big city apartment, or even for their old house that their grandfather built with his bare hands. THIS is what they were fighting for. This is what fueled the men of the Ukrainian military to keep going. This was their will, their way, and their life. They were living for the moment, and this moment was their life.

Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gussev -
"Here is the situation. Recce elements of the 75th Armoured Brigade are just 20km south of L'viv. They have reported sporadic resistance; around 4 light infantry Battalions armed with AK-47s and RPGs. We cant be 100% sure right now, but it seems that the Ukrainians have pulled out most of their armour from this sector to defend Kiev. Aerial recce is having difficulty obtaining any data about the forces inside the city thanks to poor weather, but its safe to assume that the enemy has a large concentration of troops stationed there. These troops are mainly conscripts or newly-drafted, and thus do not have the experience that the regular Ukrainian soldier is praised for. However I do not believe that we should under-estimate the patriotism of the average Ukrainian, he will fight fiercely and with great determination. I believe that Hrstrovokian forces should attempt to encircle the city quickly and starve out the defenders, that will reduce deaths on both sides in the easiest possible manner."
Commander-in-Chief Alexander Miroslav -
"Agreed. Order the 75th to move around L'viv. I believe a demonstration of Hrstrovokian firepower is needed. Move in the 60th Rocket Artillery Brigade to accompany the 75th, begin a systematic destruction of residential areas of the city. It is time to show the Ukrainians we mean business."

Yeshechenko grimly sat back in his chair at the round meeting table, where he had assembled his closest advisors to talk about the war. He pointed out possible strategies, and tactic that could be used to bring death and destruction to the Hrstrovokian forces, or at least some of them.
They had the advantage of electricity, since it had not yet been knocked out. They would air propoganda campaigns, urging the people to resist the occupation in anyways that they could. Posters were pinned up on walls of buildings, and huge signs on the side of high ways were erected. Agents snuck into the occupied parts of Ukraine and pinned up posters on the sides of walls, in an effort to those who had already fallen.
With the rapid Hrstrovokian advancement, no troops could be used for an offensive attack, because they were all busy defending. But they could use short and sparatic bombing to destroy supply lines, or kill advancing troops. But their planes were somewhat outdated. But they would have the element of suprise.
When the meeting adjurned, Yeshencho stood up, shook hands with his fellow diplomats, knowing this would likely they would all meet together again, except for maybe in a jail cell. All they could do was hope to take down as many Hrstrovokians as hey could, and go down in history for something else rather than being a ex-communist strong hold, and a nation rittled with false elections. They had done their part, and now it was up to the people to defend their homeland, and clense it of the invaders.

Commander-in-Chief Alexander Miroslav -
"What of our attack on L'viv?"
Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gussev -
"Operation Crusher is underway. The 75th Armoured Brigade has closed in on the city. Weather has improved, and Aerial recce indicates that previous intelligence reports on troop concentrations in L'viv and in the western Ukraine are wrong; the Ukrainians are on the retreat, and cannot make any offensive actions in the sector."
Commander-in-Chief Alexander Miroslav -
"I see. So should we expect L'viv to fall soon?"
Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gussev -
"No. The people of the Ukraine are riding a high-wave of patriotism fed by the propaganda of Kiev. They will resist us, so I think its important not to generate any incidents between the SSR forces and the people which would destroy our credibility, or what credibility we have left, with them. You have to remeber that the people are very hostile to this invasion, and we must ease them into our control gradually."
Minister of Defense Alexi Mrak -
"I agree. We should neither create martyrs or give the resistance any fuel for their fire. I've kept the domestic and foreign media under firm control and out of the main zones of activity so we can avoid any kind of PR fallout. Our own propaganda campaign to date has been minimal, so I think we should launch one to counteract the Ukrainian effort. We should also avoid being heavy-handed."
Commander-in-Chief Alexander Miroslav -
"Agreed. Has the 60th Rocket Artillery Brigade reached L'viv yet?"
Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gussev -
"The 300 M270A1s decimated most of L'viv southern suburbs, these areas were previously evacuated, so loss of life should be confined to the military only."
Commander-in-Chief Alexander Miroslav -
"Order the unit to continue firing a creeping barrage right up to the Ukrainian lines and beyond. I want as many troops as possible committed to the city with additional Artillery and Mech. Infantry support. We must take this oppurtunity, while the Ukrainian forces are temporarily stunned, to capture L'viv. Its the single most important objective at this stage. Keep the 75th outside, we'd only lose the Tanks in street-fighting. I want the 2nd Crimson Guard sent in."
Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gussev -
"But Sir, what about taking the city by siege?"
Commander-in-Chief Alexander Miroslav -
"We cannot wait. Foreign powers may intervene at any moment. L'viv must fall. The Crimson Guard will take the city, supported by the Armoured, Infantry and Artillery ring outside it."
Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gussev -
"You are willing to engage Ukrainian forces in urban-fighting, where they have better local knowledge and defensive initiative? I thought we were going to avoid set-piece battles here, this will only serve to escalate the conflict."
Commander-in-Chief Alexander Miroslav -
"Nonsense. When the city is ours, and the Ukrainians on the brink of defeat, you will see I am right."

Viktor Yeshecheno sat alone in an under ground bunker in an undisclosed location in Kiev. He knew everything he had fought for in order to get his job would be meaning less in a few weeks. His forces were pinned down, fighting a defensive war. Just then, he heard a roaring from over head. It was his fighters and his bombers going on the offensive. Their target were the supply lines in occupied Ukraine. He was almost cut off from the outside world, except for a TV and a radio, so he could catch up on the events, and give commands to his military, if need be.
All he could do was hope. Hope that his forces will fight well. Hope that he wouldn't be found, when they took Kiev. Hope that the people would do their civic duty in being patriotic and fighting back that Hrstrovokian skum. And hope that one day, Ukraine will once again be an independent republic, and Pro-western.

Private Maakiz was woken from his sleep by the beeping of his Command Console. "Alert! Incoming Enemy formation detected! Alert!" Maakiz wiped the sleep from his eyes and stared blankly for a moment before freaking out. "We've got massive formations destined for our sector!" he roared, leaping from his chair.
The rest of the crew manning the P-34 Radar installation, just outside Odessa, who were also taking the lull in activity in the air to get some well deserved sleep, sprung to life. From there the alert went over to the Airbases in Moldova and the F-15Es sitting out on the tarmac. Pilots scrambled from their accomodation blocs as the alert sirens wailed. The jets blasted off into the skies to eagerly engage the Ukrainian Air Force.
On the Northern and Central Fronts, Air Defense had been seriously neglected. We Hrstrovokians had become over-confident. We thought the Ukrainians were toast. We were wrong. And we were about to learn a hard lesson in warfare - until the enemy is dead, the enemy is not defeated.

The three groups of planes, each consisting of 6 Su-39s, 8 MiG-29s, and 6 Su-24s, raced through the air at an alamring speed. Occupied Ukraine had been divided into 3 different sectors, North, South, and Inbetween. Each group was to focus on its own sector. They were to hit the supply lines, and transportation routes in Occupied Ukraine that the Hrstrovokian military did, or could use. The variaty of planes provided an excellent combination. The Su-39 specialized in ground attacking, much like the A-10 or F-15of the west. The MiG-29s were multiroled, and could provide a diesent air defence and had a good fighter capability. The Su-24 is a fighter-bomber, much like the F-111, or the Tornado of the west.
This mixture was used in order to effectivly and successfully strike and return home, taking minimul casualties and damage.
In all three sectors, bridges, rail-ways, and major roads were the primary targets. Once (if) their targets were destroyed, then they were hit hit anything that the Hrstrovokians could use to move supplies. They pretty much wanted to reduce it to where they had to use back roads, made of dirt to transport thier supplies. The Ukrainians knew that without viable supply lines, the enemy would starve, and falter. They would run low on ammunition, food, and any other supplies. This would lead the way for a Ukrainian offensive if all went according to plan. This was their 'do or die' time period, when the Hrstrovokians weren't using the full effects of their force. The Ukrainians were using this to thier advantage and take out the supply lines before the Hrstrovokians could sent more troops in.
Yet, there was still one problem with thier plan. Sure, they could knock out supply lines on the ground, but the modern military had good cargo planes that could carry tons and tons of supplies, and it was faster than the ground. No doubt, this attack would more than likely be little more than a morale booster for the Ukrainian forces, if all went well.
As they were entering the airspace over Occupied Ukraine, the pilots knew that it would only be a matter of time before the Hrstrovokians scrambled their fighters tin intercept them. This was their terrain so they knew it well. They flew low to the ground to try to avoid radar as much as possible, but such a large consentration of planes wouldnt go unnoticed on radar. They had to strike hard and fast, in order to be affective.

"We've been hit. The question is Gentlemen, how hard?"
Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gussev -
"The UAF strike has reduced our fighting capability on the Central and Eastern Fronts significantly. There is over 3,698 troops dead and a further 6,340 injured. The latest reports put vehicles; including Tanks, Trucks and APCs, SAMs and Field Artillery ecetera at 1,280 destroyed and 987 seriously damaged. We lost 58 aircraft on the ground, and I have no confirmation how many were lost in the aerial battles. 89& of the transportation infrastructre in the Central and Eastern Sectors has been destroyed. The attack caught everybody by suprise."

"My God."
Minister of Defense Alexi Mrak -
"Alexander, you dont believe in God, this is Socialist Hrstrovokia, remeber? Just over 2% of our entire forces in the field have been wiped out. Sir, we need to retaliate now and without mercy."
Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Gussev -
"We cannot allow ourselves to act rashly. This is a setback, but not the end.
Commander-in-Chief Alexander Miroslav -
"No, we must avenger our dead. If the rest of the world knew that we'd been thumped by a minor power, we'd have the wolves at our door. The Ukrainians show no sign of giving in. We must show them that to continue this War is folly, it will lead to their demise. We must crush them, and prove to the World that the SSR is still a force to be reckoned with. I am ordering a fall scale invasion of the Ukraine. No fucking around. I want Kiev wiped off the map, burn it to the ground. I am ordering 40 Air Divisions of B-52Gs to strike the capitol. Inform the Ukrainians that if they do not surrender within 48 hours, the rest of the nation will meet the same fate."

The striking success and the element of suprise had come at a great cost. All the planes that had returned home were damaged. Of the total 60 aircraft that participated in the strike, only 24 returned home, all damaged some how or another. Some had bullet holes in them others were hit by SAMs but not enough to down the plane. But the higher ups of the Ukrainian military, and government knew that the victory would be short lived. This attaci would do little more than anger the Hrstrovokians, but at the same time serve as a morale booster to their own troops. It would also serve as a battle cry for the Hrstrovokians.
The threats of total destruction put scare and panic into many people. Yeshechenko didnt want to see his nation turned to rubble and burn, like Germany in WW2. But yet, he didn't want to surrender to the Hrstrovokians. He knew it was only a matter of time before they made a final push to capture Kiev. And once Kiev fell, so would the rest of the Ukraine. In an effort to save hundreds of thousands of lives, Viktor knew what he had to do.
He wrote out this telegram, to be wired to Hrstrovokia:
"Upon your command, we are ready to step down. The Ukraine is yours, and we surrender to you, as long as nobody will be punished, or held accountable for our actions of rebellion.
