OOC: Fleet Organization needed

Ok, here's the deal. The CFA (Coalition Forces Alliance) has asked me too create a military for them. As a member, I gladly started to. However, when I got to the navy, I got stuck. Then I relized how much I suck at naval logistics. So, I present to you all a challenge. Create a fleet organization for the CFA. Heres the rules:

Must use the following ships, in any amount, not nessisarily using all of them:
From Hogsweat: (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=394848&page=1&pp=15)
Type 28 Commonwealth Class DDG
Type 26 Republic Class FF
Type 30 Cossack Air Defence Cruiser

From DPUO: (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=390171&page=1&pp=15)
Hunter-Class Command Battleship
Frunze-Class Battleship
Salah al-Din-Class Battleship
Soyuz-Class Battleship
Arrow-Class Command Battlecruiser
Anubis-Class guided missile Battlecruiser
Admiral-Class Battlecruiser
Tempest-Class Battlecruiser
Repulse-Class Battlecarrier
Blue Dragon Heavy Carrier
Boar-class missile cruiser
Typhoon-II SSBN
Delta-V SSGN
Juliett-II SSG

Must be created with defense and swift attack in mind
Must not be all grouped together
Must have more than one organization (i.e. one grouping for heavy assault, one for coastal bombardment, etc.)

NOTE: This is assuming that DPUO lets us use his ships. He is a member, afterall, so he should.

Organized for defense or attack?

Note that there are no support vessels of any sort listed.

Well, you have to understand that it's not one huge fleet. It's a bunch of "smaller" fleets. For example, a group of submerines, or a whole invasion fleet.
Mostly, its organized for defense, as we use land and air for offensive purposes. But there should be a couple groups for coastal bombardment and the like.
Oh, and I have the support vessals all set already. Thats why I didn't put them in yet.

What is your organization's naval doctrine?

During the cold war, the US Naval Doctrine was to protect the Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs) for the US and her allies. The Soviet Naval Doctrine was to protect the homeland from invasion. The organization of the two navies reflected these doctrinaire differences.

The US Navy was designed to project power overseas, intent on forcing potential enemies to have to fight their way through the world's best navy just to get into a position where they could threaten the US SLOCs.

The Soviet Navy was designed to prevent enemy invasion forces from getting close enough to attack the USSR. As the Naval technological gap between the USSR and the US widened, Soviet doctrine adapted slightly to develop ships and subs to try to disrupt the US Naval Doctrine.

In order to organize your Navy, you need to decide what it is for.

After discussing this with other CFA members, I have decided that the CFA needs an offensive structure, as the Navy is one of our only ways of occupation.

For an offensive force structure, you will also need transport ships and amphibious assault ships- none of which are listed as available platforms.

I suggest a multi-stage offensive structure, with smaller units (capable of independent combat) able to integrate into larger ones without losing their unit integrity.

STRIKE GROUPS
Primary strike organization should be loosely based on the US Navy carrier battlegroup. I suggest one heavy and two standard carriers, with at least one helicopter carrier included for antisubmarine warfare (ASW) striking power. Each carrier should have at least two air-defense-capable ships as escorts, as well as a mix of dedicated ASW platforms (corvettes/frigates) and multi-role platforms (destroyers and cruisers). Using the listed assets, something like this:

5 Anubis-Class guided missile Battlecruiser
6 Boar-class missile cruiser
1 or 2 Repulse-Class Battlecarrier
2 or 3 Blue Dragon Heavy Carrier
8 Type 28 Commonwealth Class DDG
8 Type 26 Republic Class FF
1 Arrow-Class Command Battlecruiser
or
1 Hunter-Class Command Battleship

This would be your primary anti-ship/anti-air/anti-sub "command of the sea" organization, and one of the largest autonomous units.

DEFENSE GROUPS
Defensive units should be something one the order of:

1 Delta-V SSGN
2 Juliett-II SSG
6 Type 28 Commonwealth Class DDG
12 Type 26 Republic Class FF
3 Type 30 Cossack Air Defence Cruiser
2 Anubis-Class guided missile Battlecruiser
1 Hunter-Class Command Battleship

Carriers would not be needed, since this type of unit should only operate with 200 kilometers of land (and therefore have the cover of shore-based aircraft). The missile platforms would be solely for air-defense. Make sure your keep your submarines well forward of the rest of the unit. I recommend having dedicated kill-zones for surface and submarine platforms. This will permit your ASW platforms to kill any submarines found in their area, and the subs to kill anything at all they find in their area.

AMPHIBIOUS GROUPS
You have no amphibious assault capabilities listed.

OTHER
I would also recommend:

*Small carrier strike groups, consisting mainly of 1 or 2 carriers with an air-defense-capable ship per carrier and 6-10 escorts.

*Dedicated antisurface groups, built around a carrier and a mix of battleships and battlecruisers- with approximately twice as many escorts as primary platforms. This type of unit could double as a shore-bombardment unit.

*Small ASW units built around a few DDGs and a guided missile cruiser- with as many FFs as the rest of the units combined.

A few things to be aware of:

Carriers cannot survive alone- neither can battleships.

A battleship's main guns will rarely be used against other ships. The vast expanses of ocean make it difficult for the battleship to get enemy ships within gun range. If the enemy is trying to invade YOU, however, the battleship's main guns might come into play ... but it will be savaged by missile attacks for a long time before that.

Using Typhoon-class subs to deliver anything except nuclear weapons is a waste of expensive and vulnerable equipment- and crews.

FLEET ORGANIZATION
Keep it simple.

5-10 ships = SQUADRON. Usually grouped together by type (Destroyers, submarines, frigates, etc). Each carrier or battleship is its own squadron, and will have a squadron or two of escorts.

3 Squadrons = GROUP. These will normally be dedicated to a particular type of combat (anti-surface, anti-submarine, etc)

3 Groups = FORCE

3 Forces = FLEET

Hope this helps.
