The Lightning Star

Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Captain Ogilov and his squad were patrolling the city streets, trying to protect as much of the city as he could. Ever since the Wintree Government had collapsed a few weeks ago, the country had declined into Chaos. Dushanbe was controlled by a weak Tajik government headed by Colonel Rhomanov, but the rest of the country was controlled by warring factions. Already, more than 1 million Tajiks had been killed, and many more were close to death. Captain Ogilov wished for the chaos to end, but little did he know, his wish was soon to be answered.
At about 11:00 P.M., the hum of huge planes was heard all over the city. Within 10 minutes, ground-based Anit-Air Batteries were firing at the sky. The response was hundreds of guided missiles, launched from excort jets, blowing up 90% of the batteries. Then, 70,000 soldiers began to descend upon the city. Although the defenders tried to fight back the incoming swarm, they were no match. The Infantry began to swarm through the city, and although many parts of the city surrendered instantly, the Presidential Palace and the surrounding area held out. Tajik infantry opened fire on the assailants, who by now were recognized as Carthaginian Poeni Infantry. The assailants launched Anza rockets at the building as it began to catch on fire. Although the defenders fought valiantly, the building was captured in 4 hours and the Carthaginian Flag was raised over the city.
Offical Statement by the Carthaginian Government
At 2300 hours, the Carthaginian Army attacked the city of Dushanbe, Tajikistan, to bring order back to that country. The city fell at 0300 hours the next day, with our soldiers taking 400 wounded, 7 missing, and 27 killed. Tajik casualties are in the range of 20,000 , with an estimated 2,000 dead. While we regret that we must use force, Tajikistan must be brought under control.
