NASN-01 Hammerhead

The New Attack Submarine (Nuclear) Oh-One is the first of the new designs to be produced by Fluffywuffy. The modern naval battle being fought by super-fleets, Fluffywuffy decided that that its undersea fleet must be able to provide almost every function that the obselete Imperial surface fleet serves. That includes landing troops on beaches, providing heavy artillery for said troops, fighting against other surface and submarine threats, and, in case of a crisis, launch nuclear weapons. Deeming the first operation nearly impossible, Imperial engineers and tacticians decided that the beach assault function would be served by small groups of special operations units. And so they came up with the following design:
Stealth Capabilities
The Hammerhead is a stealthy, and deadly, fish. Anechoic tiles fastened onto the hull and an anechoic layer on the hull itself absorb sound, with a decoupling layer on the back of the tiles trapping sound inside the submarine. Natural convection currents move coolant fluids in the reactor, the floors are made of anechoic tiles, and even the galley has had various noise reducing improvements, such as plastic utensils and plastic surfaces. Rather than use conventional screws to move through the water, the Hammerhead uses two waterjets.
Weapons Load
A stealthly fish is not very deadly if it doesn't have teeth, and the Hammerhead certainly has big teeth. Designed to able to handle anything from SLBMs to Tomahawk cruise missiles, the weapons load fits in well with the modular mission that the New Imperial Navy demands. The missile tubes are designed to fire SLBMs, but a module that fits in allows each tube to fire seven cruise missiles each. There are 24 such tubes, allowing the submarine to fire 168 missiles. In addition to launching cruise missiles, a tube can be modified to launch and recover special operations teams. For torpedoes, the ship has the standard four torpedo tubes.
General Statistics
Length: 560 feet (170.69 meters)
Beam: 42 feet (10.06 meters)
Displacement: Surfaced: 16,764 tons
Submerged:18,750 tons
Speed: 25 knots submerged speed
Operating Depth: 1,000 feet
Crew: 15 Officers, 140 Enlisted
Cost: $800,000,000
Export Information
Foreign nations can purchase the Hammerhead, but for a price. No design specifications, parts, or otherwise related material, will be sold regarding the propulsion system. Having the propulsion system would allow foreign nations to have in their arsenal the ability to detect and identify the submarines much easier. For this reason a simple twin-screw system is in place of the jets. The screws will be built to match the purchasing nation's designs as closely as possible, and Imperial designs will not be used (for contact identification reasons, again). Also, there will be an exportation charge of twenty million dollars.
