Dontgonearthere has announced today that it plans to establish a forward base on the planet Mercury within the next four years, in order to facilitate the recently declassified Sundiver program (more details on Sundiver later), which requires a launch area near its intended destination.
It is hoped that the main body of the base will be constructed underground in order to avoid the high surface temperatures, any adverse weather and so on. The only part on the surface will be the hangar doors, these will be specialy constructed using various heatproofed materials, and will be well cooled in the event that said heatproofed materials prove to be merely resistant.
Details on Sundiver:
Sundiver is an ambitious project by the Dontgonearthere govornment to construct a ship capable of entering Sol, and remaining there for some time, where it can conduct various experiments as well as (it is hoped) monitor the reactions of a star from the inside.
Current plans revolve around a specailized heat-redirecting laser, which will divert excess heat from the ship to an area roughly six kilometers behind the ship.
To prevent buildup on the hull research is being conducted on number of highly reflective materials, with a backup cooling system that may possibly give the ship a few minutes to escape should the laser fail.
Dontgonearthere is welcoming donations, crew, and whatever other aid nations care to supply. We assure everybody that this is a NON-MILITARY project, and that we dont plan to blow the sun up.

The RP itself will most likely involve terrorists, so we welcome anybody who cares to play them.
Also, there is a slight chance that (if nothing else presents itself) we might just discover life on the sun, it was in the book, so Ill do it if I want :P
