Battletech Unit claims

Considering the last Battletech thread I did, you can guess what the title of this thread means.

If you have a unit and/or side that you wish to rp in the BT universe, then post what unit you wish to rp. As I said previously, I have a full map of the Inner Sphere with all planet names. Also, I’m willing to allow custom units, so in as long as you have the national economy to reasonably back it up. If you want an example of this, look at my site to see how I structured my military to support a FT/MT setup.

http://www.freewebs.com/gaianknight/clanangelgalaxy.htm

I also want a strong emphasis, not on time period or type of technology used in rp play, but rather a willingness to take losses and know when to lose. And forget nuclear weapons. Af far as I know, there’s a very limited number in the Successor States, even fewer in the Periphery and the Clans never use them. That leaves ComStar and Word of Blake, and while ComStar probably wouldn’t use their such number, Word of Blake would, but even they probably have few.

Besides, BT rarely mentions it anyway. The idea is to have units fight each other, not nuke em.

Having said that, anyone that has access to the Lyran Alliance source book, mainly in regards to the unit names, so in as to assist those that want to play Lyran units, would find equal acknowledgment for running this universe idea. Otherwise I hold every other book, including ComStar, and the Mercenary book with Wolf’s Dragoons in it.

This topic by the way is permanently open, since new units from many aspects will be accepted.

And one thing, let’s try to keep parity in unit origins. That means, not all Davion or too many Clan, and too few IS. I’m not intending this as a limiter, but as a balancer. I myself as perogrative as the author, will use my own ‘Clan’ first, though I may choose a separate unit down the road to help keep things interesting.

And all RPs are directly governed by the godmodding guidelines and FT guidelines as well. Detail isn’t totally tantamount, as the idea is to have fun RPs where we shoot each other to ribbons.

So, let's get the rules down pat. Claim units first, and I'll find out where they should be stationed. Planet claims are sorta dud here, since most are already claimed by the Great Houses, The Clans, ComStar, Word of Blake, and The Periphery States. There's a few unclaimed worlds, but they're either in the deep Peripery, or in the Chaos March where 'everyone's' fighting over them anyway.

It'd be simpler to claim a unit first, and then get a planet claim later through rp. Course some premier units have their own worlds, but they if claimed, would require some spit and polish rp to justify claiming those units. Those that can't should take or create a unit of their own, and follow the auspices above.

Above all again, this is for BT battles, not planet claims. There's more than enough raids, battles, and campaigns that last months to go around. Personally I liked Tukayyid, and that was only one planet that was fought over...

...with Six Clans and several ComStar Divisions over several days. =^^=

The following is a list of known active states, where a nation claiming a unit will have that unit name followed by the owning rp nation. As you can see, there's a TON of states to claim a Regiment or Cluster.

I'd like to play my merc. company "Lords of Legend". They were made up with the old Mercenary's Handbook. I'll publish more details soon.

Got ya posted good sir (or ma`am as the case may be..)

Still room for plenty of units. If there's a side you want to play, just ell me what side, and if you want, I can find a good unit for you to play. And it doesn't have to be Mech based either. There's tons of Infantry, Battle Armor, Combat Vehicle, and AeroSpace Regiments and Clusters out there as well.

Let's keep them coming. =^^=

I'm a bit lost on what you're wanting.

I've got the LA book.

As for unit claims i think i'll stick with my merc unit, The Norwegian Blues (battlaion sized, home based on Argyle FedSuns, a bit weird but they are funded by the Harris family who own the StMungos Areospace works there (made up armory) and most of the land that doesn't belong directly the Davion family).

If needs be i'll put in one of the lighter LA RCTs or a regional militia.

For nations that want to participate, to claim their own unit (or units, if they can handle them..), as if they were claiming land or planets, except in this case, the units are allied to one of the major factions below, unless you have a unique faction of your own.

We then run a series of rps and combat them against each other, eventually making our own universe theme in the process.

There's not exactly a limit to the number of units a nation can claim and deploy, the catch is that some of the campaigns would be long ones, and having to keep track of too many units would probably get a bit extended, especially with nations running other threads. I'd recommend no more than three units, in any combination of IS, Clan, Merc or Unique.

I don't know...Hmm...Maybe some Merc unit. Doesn't Draconis Combine support mercs?

Cool, thanks for the help Strathdonia. I got your Merc unit listed. I'm trying to find Argyle on my map now for reference.

Freebirds, a mercenary unit from the Draconis Combine. They're still active in the Draconis military, so they're kinda both Mercenaries and soldiers in Draconis.
Gaian Ascendancy
17-02-2005, 00:17
Green Sun: Aye, they were recruiting Mercs for the search for the Clan homeworlds, prior to the Bulldog and Serpent Operations from 3058 - 3060 that destroyed the Smoke Jaguars.

Every House employs them. The Clans hate the living daylights out of them though.

---

EDIT:

Is that your chosen Merc unit then Green Sun?
Green Sun
17-02-2005, 00:19
So the Draconis Combine is a Mercenary group or what? I kinda want them to work for a house and function as mercs.

Edit: They are called teh Freebirds, yes.
Gaian Ascendancy
17-02-2005, 00:23
Draconis Combine is House Kurita, and they employ them.

And I'll add your choice on the list in a moment.
Green Sun
17-02-2005, 00:25
Okay, so they're part of House Kurita and they're mercs at the same time.
Gaian Ascendancy
17-02-2005, 00:31
Aye, as long as they're under a Kurita contract that is. Course House Kurita has had a history of trying to blackmail units into becoming regular house units, rather than let a Merc unit go to another House and possibly oppose them.

Wolf's Dragoons is a classic example of a unit that went through this, as they rotated through the Houses to gain Intel for the Clans. House Kurita tried to force the Dragoons into becoming a regular unit, and caused a bloody battle between both sides in the end.
Green Sun
17-02-2005, 00:35
Well, the Freebirds are actually regular house units. But they double as Mercs and will never let their mission contracts interfere with that.
Gaian Ascendancy

Sounds good...

...let's get some more units in here. =^^=

The Lords of Legend were originally founded during the Succession Wars. They spent most of their time working for one Bandit kingdom or lesser house or another.
Although the leader of the Lords was an astute mercenary and an extremely gifted Mechwarrior, Neils Karaikin was a man of few morals and even less scruples. He only had two rules.
1) Always finish a contract.
2) Respect other merc's rights (mercenary rules of engagement)
Apart from that, he involved the Lords in many dubious campaigns and outright massacres. Eventually his followers had had enough.
Even though Neils had built up a solid merc regiment with everything from Mech lances to aerospace to vehicles and artillery his reputation was becoming worse and worse.
He was called out by his second in command, Jane Saltmark.

Both of these mechwarriors piloted Awesomes and the massive damage inflicted by the PPCs of both mechs lit up the area of their duel. Eventually, her mech almost glowing with the heat, Jane slammed her Awesome down onto the right leg of Neils' mech. Servos buckled and myofibres snapped as the weight of Jane's mech broke Neils' awesome's leg.
Jane managed to keep conscious for the half second needed for Neils to regain control of his falling mech. At the same time that Neils' arm mounted PPC fired into her mech's chest, Jane brought her right arm down on Neils' cockpit. She punched eject at the same time and shot up and away from the expanding ball of gas that was her mech's reactor pile.

The purge that followed was quick and bloody. Neils' cronies were killed or expelled from the Lords and Jane led them into a new age of morality.

Here is a run down of the Lords of Legend as they were in the Succesion Wars.
Obviously, I'll have to adjust things a bit for anything post clans. (I'd have to buy the books as well so info on timeline would be helpful)

There are three mechs in this list that I designed myself. Here are quick summaries.

PHX -2- Phalanx An 85 tonne mech with its arms and side torsoes completely filled with LRMs (has huge drums for arms)

MSH -1- Musashi 60 tonne heavily armoured close work specialist. Has hatchets (like Hatchetman) on both arms. These are shaped like katanas. Secondary weaponry are SRMs in torsoes. Very useful in jungles and cities.

LSV -1- Legend 95 tonne assault mech characterised by two PPCs in arms and two AC 10s in torsoes. Big, heavy medium-range scrapper.

Bumping a bit more. And..

Most of my play of the board game came from the Succession Wars period. I've picked up some stuff about the Clans etc. from computer games (MechCommander, Mechwarrior etc.) but don't really know deep stuff about it. It is becoming important for me to learn more about the recent Battletech universe.

Does anyone want to run the Lords of Legend through the return of the Clans? If not, can you suggest a "catch-up" book or series of books that might help me?

Thanks.
