Random Kingdom government assassinated, civil war imminent.

Random Kingdom
15-02-2005, 22:54
Under the dim glow of the sun setting on the Golden Hills, a Voluntary Army troop carrier drove up the inclined road to the CSU Headquarters, the epicentre of government activity. Five men sat in the vehicle, two in the front, three in the back, and a large object in the middle. Five men with a mission, that they were willing to give their lives to carry out.

"Identification, please. Where's your access card?"
"Right here. VA level three clearance. Access to paramilitary parking lots and HQ core."
"What reason to enter the compound?"
"We're dropping off intel from the espionage assignment in southern Random Kingdom, it's in the back."

The sentry stepped out of his bulletproof waypoint station and walked around the carrier. When he pushed aside the textile outer cover a stream of gunfire ran through his body. A sword was drawn out, and the sentry was decapitated before he had chance to radio a lockdown order.

"Perimeter Guard to Sentry Post 3, come in. What is going on? What is the matter?"

The carrier coughed into life and continued its mission, crawling down the road to the compound. The front passenger picked up a mobile and dialled in the number 03 928441, which connected him to a person only known to him as Rasinz. Three words were spoken: "radii, parpraii, coamecca." The carrier parked itself in the military parking lot, next to a troop helicopter. All five of the passengers got out, with assault rifles and heavy machine guns.

** Two minutes later **

The pilot in the helicopter, Troop Commander Mansiv Chavez, suddenly noticed the carrier. Unnerved by the way it sloppily parked, how the cover bulged in the middle, and how it was empty, the pilot turned to his two-way radio. No-one was picking up in Perimeter Guard. He said one word to his co-pilot, Standing Troop Commander Panii Boensfeil, "investigate." Boensfeil muttered something along the lines of "yessir" and hopped out of the chopper.

What he saw he could never tell Chavez, as a timed plastic explosive spontaneously reduced the helicopter to scrap metal. He found a high-explosive device, rigged to explode in 5 minutes, the exact time of the closing of the CSU Annual Meeting.

Boensfeil tried the doors, but they were locked, the device was unmoveable. He clambered into the smouldering wreckage of the helicopter to try the radio, but it was inactive. A siren blared out, the doors and windows of the headquarters were sealed with impregnable slats and shutters, and so were the gates. The complex defenses separated the bomb from those who could disarm it. All Boensfeil could do now was wait.

The explosion ripped through the complex, totally destroying it. Fortunately, the Convention Centre, which was linked via footbridge to the civilian zone of the headquarters, was unharmed. The falling of the government headquarters and the deaths of all of the CSU representatives broke the binding that held the states of RK, and to a small extent Geckratonia, together; causing alliances to be made, states warring against states in anarchy and confusion to reunite the fallen Random Kingdom.

Random Kingdom has fallen into civil war. Only time will tell which faction will unite the departments and govern the peoples.

Word of the imminent civil war in Random Kingdom soon reached the desk of the leader of the Dracun Remnant, Guardian Jason Manstara. He knew instantly that something must be done before the entire nation fell into chaos, just as Dracun had mere months before. Though they knew they could not supply more then 2,000 troops with assorted vechiles they would have too.

Jason with permision from the Judges declared a state of emergency, and he was given complete power of the Dracun Remnant for up to 1 month. He ordered 2,000 of the slowly growing Remnant Offensive Operations Force (ROOF) to be prepared and launched for Random Kingdom, in hopes of ending and restoring peace to the nation.

Jason also knew that they had no one to contact that they were sending in a relief force. So he expected fighting from both sides to affect the Relief Force. They would be under command of Task Force Command Anthony Quizigimo.

In the midst of the fast-paced civil war, which has started to claim lives on all sides, states and their peoples have joined together to form contrasting factions, which are fighting to rid Random Kingdom of the others and take the nation for themselves. The larger groups are fighting with each other whilst smaller clans are struggling to survive. Families, split in their ideologies and opinions, are torn apart. The three largest factions, the National-Socialist Coalition (a neo-Nazi organization determined to rid RK, and possibly the whole region of the Golden Hills, of dissidents), the Pacifist Network (who prefer drugs and flowers to missiles and artillery), and the Liberal Collective (similar to the previous government), control large numbers of states and territories and spread their influence to remote places like Geckratonia and Sweatshoponia. One of the less mainstream factions, the Brotherhood of the Forests, believes in only using majick to take the nation, but so far their efforts have been fruitless. Some of the factions welcome the 2,000 ROOFs (the NSC and the LC), yet some don't (the PN and the BotF).

We were behind the attack on the CSU. Communism is a threat to our plans to create a perfect, incorruptible nation of workers willing to craft a perfect, incorruptible world. The next attack will be on the RANDOM KINGDOM PROPAGANDA FACTORY on October 17th, 8 p.m. Resistance is futile ~ you will be assimilated.

The former government was soft on its citizens and on the world. We will not fail our nation. Once we control Random Kingdom, and its colonies, the NSC can begin its plans for globalization.

The government of old neglected the spirits of its citizens. A war with no enemies like this was in the cards for a long time. Endorse the Brotherhood of the Forests, for we do not care whether our fellow men are of the left or the right influence. The nation of Random Kingdom does not need its radios, or high-speed Internet, if we go back to nature like our spiritual ancestors the dieties will bless us. Our charms have had no effect as of yet, but that is because there aren't enough believers, a lack of devoted servants to our cause. May Luck decide the Brotherhood is the winner of this sacreligious war.

Yours with faith, High Druid Eman.

The Random Kingdom Propaganda Factory is a large printing works in the industrial southern area of New Hope. Since it was endorsed by the CSU, it has steep security. A VA military chopper flew into the defense sector.

"Clearance to land?"
"Do you have identification?"
"Here. VA level three. Permission to use helipad and enter factory core."
"That seems enough. Happy travels."

The pilot dialled the number 03 928441. Three words were said. "radii, parpraii, coamecca."

Somewhere over NSC-held RK

The flight of six C-130's marked "KSC Shipping" flew over the NSC-held areas of RK....it was a calm night, and things were looking up. Thwy had come a long way, the refueling planes had helped them twice to get them here, they were tired, yet soemhow filled with the determination to continue. To them, this was another shipping run, the pilots of KSC Shipping had been shipping all kinds of questionable content to "questionable" persons worldwide since its inception.

In this case, this was to be a supply run to the NSC, if this was successful, then they would continue. Jake Featherston IV was betting on this, if this went well, good things woiuld happen......

The men aboard radioed to any NSC-controlled airfields:

"This is KSC Shipping Flight #60. We have come on a special run on behalf of the Virginian Government, requesting permission to land."

We have queried the scholars of the Tower of Hoeth for advice in our great quest. And now we know we need no idols, no charms or spells to win this struggle. By the great power of the high god Amaeron, we, his children, shall deliver. We have already converted the state of Vingts, in Random Kingdom, to our faiths. When the nation entire is enlightened, we shall make the settlement of Amaera, named after the great supreme diety of enlightenment.

Our prophets are having strange visions. They tell me that those who believe in neither defense nor offense shall fall in vain, that unless the hateful voice is stifled it shall haunt the heads of all men, and that repeated history will lead us back to the civil war we endure today. Join us in our worship of Amaeron, for luck shall pick the true believers out.

The KSC SHipping planes landed at an airfield that looked safe. It had many persons on it, and it looked somewhat busy.

The pilot remarked, "Good thing we have a full personal arsenal onboard...." as they landed the C-130's on the airstrip. They taxied to a stop, and men soon got out of the planes, armed, on the ready for LC forces that might react to their landing.

One man got out and asked to see the base commander.

Where many saw chaos... they saw opportunity. At dawn 3 frieghters with Red Tidean markings slid into a Random Kingdom port. With no more port authorities, siezing control of the dock was a cinch. The HOA shut down all activity into and out of the port via land. They took control of the port town and quickly set up a HQ in a nightclub. Then a few days later the port was reopened... and the arms sales began.

IC: In the darkness of night, a VA troop carrier pulled into the military usage car park of the airfield, within clear sight of the shipping planes. One man crept out of the back and proceeded to the landing strip.

"You must be the guys from the Virginian Combine. I heard you were coming, so I took a large vehicle. It should hold everything."

Three others joined the driver beside the airplane. Meanwhile, a red SUV parked in the civilian parking lot. Two people came out, both holding a primitive rocket launcher.

"I hope we're not too late. The fate of the Liberal Collective depends on us. We need to take out that arms shipment."
"If we take out the plane, there'll be a diplomatic backlash. No... we should take out their carrier before they load anything onto it."
"But they'll still get the arms out!"
"They'll take one of the cars in the civilian parking lot to escape. Only three cars in the park. One is ours, with built-in anti-fascist measures, and the other two can be capped with one of these."

One of the men dropped the end of the rocket launcher he was carrying, causing the heavy weapon to clang on the ground, and pulled out a large device from his trenchcoat pocket.
"Developed by the VA just before the government collapsed. Mark VI 2000 class tracking bugs, can make a needle in a haystack stick out like a neon light. Easily destructible, too, in case we mess up."

Back at the airfield...
"Come on, Gus, help me carry this heavy machine gun to the carrier. Whoa there - stop!"
A rocket fired into the carrier, reducing it into rubble sitting in a deep crater.
"Commies. There they are, on the wall. Give me that sniper! Take that, diablos!"
A well-shot bullet hit one of the men, who fell to the ground. The other dived into the civilian car park.

"We're going to have to take the guns to another car and escape fast."

The city of Little Peace, on the southern coast, was taken by the HOA. The Liberal Collective desperately needs weapons, but they have little cash, so they may purchase from the HOA in the future, but as a last resort. The Brotherhood of the forests claims that their god of healing, Mariila, will protect them better, and the National-Socialist Coalition refuses to depend on so-called "commies".

Red Tide2: The NSC has been given weapons by the Real ALM, so they don't need to buy from the mafia. The LC, however, may do.

Also, if you hadn't noticed, most National Socialists in Random Kingdom had a position in the Voluntary Army, hence the presence of VA vehicles on most NSC missions. Therefore they probably have access to most of the Voluntary Army's stock of munitions and artillery (of course, it lacks somewhat due to the fact that it was/is VOLUNTARY), which could include limited supplies of fairly dated tanks and artillery. Of course, if they can get any cash, they could turn to the HOA.

"They look like commies to me. Try to shake them off, they're obviously chasing us!"

Boris flicked the radio in the car to 108.3 FM. A mostly unused frequency. But not presently.

<This is NSR, National Socialist Radio! Broadcasting the true word of the true leader of Random Kingdom! Na hajraio i cacola! Hajraii i ego! Pick up your arms and blast them commies out of our lands!>

The other man in the front, Aranti, suddenly hit the off switch and pulled a handgun on Boris.

"Too bad the others aren't here to help you, when the Liberal Collective takes your guns. You nazis will die!"
"You traitor! When the time for cleansing comes, you will be the first for a bath!"
"Farewell Boris, fascist pig!" <Gunshot>

The thunderous roar of Commonality Air Force dropships and aircraft protecting the medical crews on board becomes a fairly common sight to those fighting in Random Kingdom. So common, in fact, that they no doubt barely pay attention to how many persons get on and off of the dropships; injured parties are hauled out of combat zones, in the middle of crossfires, with calmly cool (at least, whilst on the mission - they may turn into screaming idiots once they get home; who knows?) ICEL soldiers defending the medics where necessary (and striving not to increase their workload in the process), there's plenty of distraction.

Which was precisely what the four CIO agents were counting on. Provided with various garments to fit those of the various factions, they 'joined' with whatever faction the medevac vessel had dropped in to render aid to - and vanished amongst them. In the state of the nation, it wasn't difficult to become just another person fighting for freedom or whatever.

Carefully, the agents strive to insert themselves as valued members; they are all highly trained soldiers, and so are undoubtedly assets to their units - the hope being that their value makes them of a high enough character to meet with the leaders of those factions.

A-42 - the classification code used by CIO (the pretty much unknown Crown Intelligence Organisation - yet another ICEL intelligence group under the Nenyar Intelligence Organisational Umbrella Agency's 'flag') was pretty basic - had the toughest job of all. He was to pierce the Brotherhood of the Forest, and, not being Human, that would be difficult. He hoped they did not have any method of detecting his inhuman nature; he suspected that the contact lenses would be noticed, but that was little bother: plenty of people needed vision correction anyway. What would one other matter?

His ears had been surgically altered, of course, but his height and slenderness were an altogether different matter. And his pale skin. He could not be made to look like someone from this nation; and was so clearly a foreigner.

Thus he affected a Santa Barbaran accent - there had been plenty fleeing that nation, what with the viral vector there - and played the part of an immigrant.

He hoped they weren't xenophobic.

Yet he was already in their territory; this would be tougher, he knew, than the other missions assigned. The fact was, these people were forest-dwellers, or so the name implied. They would know this forest better than he, and, although there were very few who could track or move silently in a forest as well as a Nenyar or an Elf, he was not making such an effort at the current time. That would defeat the object.

His primary hope, then, was that they would not kill him on sight.

The monarchy of Geckratonia has declared war on the rest of Random Kingdom in an attempt to reclaim the nation the original band of geckoids attempted to conquer. King Cipher VI of Geckratonia has this to say:
"The time for peace with the humans is over. They have angered us with their propositions of genetic manipulation and tourism. Now we shall have our revenge for what the rebels did to the UberGecko, rightful ruler of these lands."

Ironic, then, that Cipher VI is the direct descendant (great-great-great grandson, in fact) of the rebel leader who sacrificed himself years ago to keep the geckoids from taking the nation.

Geckratonia's army has already conquered the borders and is moving due south. They are expected to hit the capital in a few weeks, if not deterred.

It is the required that external influences be kept to a minimum in this conflict. If Geckratonia wishes to aid peacekeeping efforts in Random Kingdom, it is advised that Geckratonia make contact with other nations already engaged in such activity.

Otherwise this will be seen as an act intended to compromise the Sovereign State of Random Kingdom and thus, considering the current state of anarchy in that nation, the Commonality will consider it the duty of the international community to protect the People of Random Kingdom from outside assault, where there is no government or official military in place to protect them. As such, the Commonality is willing to take that responsibility, along with whatever states are willing to provide support.

Therefore, with this in mind, any armed incursion into Random Kingdom - where Iluvauromeni medevac teams are already operating - will be considered in contravention to the rule of international law. Geckratonia shall therefore be considered a rogue state, and the Council will then convene and communicate with our allies and whatever members of the international community that see fit to discuss the matter, to determine whether or not Geckratonia shall lose its right to Sovereignty henceforth upon its contravention of accepted behaviour for a member of the international community.

In shortform: we insist that Geckratonia immediately withdraw all forces from beyond the Geckratonian-Random Kingdom border.

"They already have. Our transport was destroyed by two, remember?"
"Of cour... Azrantii cacola! Who are they?"
"Probably Sunday drivers."

A VA troop carrier was today denied access into the compound military sector because of suspicions that it may have come from the National-Socialist movement plaguing Random Kingdom. King Cipher VI has been assigned a full bodyguard as officials believe the Nazis are attempting to assassinate him, to gain control of the nation. It is rumoured that Cipher himself has begun to worship Amaeron, and plans to leave Geckratonia to join the Brotherhood of the Forests. Ge-Ren
18-02-2005, 15:16
The parliament of Ge-Ren met for an emergency session after receiving an urgent transmission from Ge-Ren's Random Kingdom counsulate concerning the imminent civil war. Few communiques from the consulate could have prepared for the sudden change in Random Kingdom's political structure, but Ge-Ren's government has provisions in its Constitution for responses to such outbreaks from its neighbors and coalition members.

Councilor Etta DeVries reminds Parliament in the opening of the session:

"The Government of Ge-Ren pledged support of its fellow nations in the Golden Hills in times of distress and this is certainly an instance where Ge-Ren needs to take action. It is this Councilor's opinion that we send a contingent immediately to assist the existing government in maintaining control and to encourage all disputing parties to multilateral talks."

"And what sort of "contingent" are you considering, Councilor?" counters her colleague, Reno Suzuki, a well-known isolationist. "If you suggest we commit Ge-Ren's very small and ill-equipped security forces to assist Random Kingdom's government, you are suggesting suicide for these troops! Not to mention, we are uncertain there *is* an existing government at the moment, and if there is none, exactly which faction should we be expected to support? I am in favor of delaying any action until it becomes clear there is a government to be saved, so that we save the lives of our own citizens first!"

Councilor Laetitia Strumworthy has a different solution: "The people in Random Kingdom we should be thinking about are of course those civilians suffering in the midst of this horrible war. We should at least send humanitarian aid. Ge-Ren is known for being a peace-loving nation, so it is not unreasonable to relieve suffering without directly entering a conflict. We do have the resources available to set up emergency camps and to distribute supplies in hard-hit areas."

"Impossible!" counters Suzuki. "We have no guarantee of their safety! We'd have to commit our own security forces to protect them! It is better to wait even to send humanitarian aid!"

The session devolves into heated arguments, and runs into the wee hours of the morning as Parilament wrangles over the rules regarding assisting member nations, its obligations of being members of the Left Wing Collective, the state of its security forces, and other issues regarding an official stance on Random Kingdom's civil war. Late in the afternoon the following day, Ge-Ren's parliament releases the following resolution:

"The Federation of Ge-Ren is dismayed to see the state of affairs of Random Kingdom, a great and well-respected nation in our Region. While we are anxious to see a quick and peaceful solution to Random Kingdom's problems, we realize that conflict is already a reality there. We have decided to pass this resolution, a compromise between our desire to assist and our concerns about the safety of our own citizens:

Ge-Ren claims neutrality in regards to this Conflict, and will make no effort to assist any given faction. If all parties agree, Ge-Ren will send emergency supplies and humanitarian aid to stricken areas so long as Ge-Renese emergency workers remain unmolested in their assistance by all factions. Ge-Ren also calls for multilateral talks and a cessation of conflict as soon as possible for the purpose of reunification per the wishes of its people, to be held in observed elections once conflict has ceased. Ge-Ren will send observers and negotiators for this purpose once a cease-fire has been accorded, and is also willing to send a special task force to speed up the peace process.

If the government of Ge-Ren does not receive a repsonse from Random Kingdom to our proposal within 10 days, it will be assumed to be rejected, and Ge-Ren will ask our esteemed Delegate to the UN, El Cid, to ask for international assistance in this matter, fot the instability of a major country in our Region is worthy of their attention."

Now, Ge-Ren must wait. Newspapers and TV broadcast have focused on Random Kingdom's civil war as main news, with various factions offering political commentary, and some voices in the government are saying Ge-Ren has gone too far in its pledge to help its member states...while others say Ge-Ren hasn't done enough.

Who can say? Only time will tell.

As usual with "humanitarian aid" RKDP (formerly the Liberal Collective, which shares most of the previous government's ideas, and the far-left Pacifist Network) warmly accepts the offer, but the Brotherhood (religious zealots) believes its pantheon of gods will protect them, and the NSC (the infamous RK nazi group) has refused any aid from leftists. It has vowed to destroy any Ge-Renian in sight, but then again the RKDP will do exactly the opposite, and the Brotherhood cares for neither of them.

"As a state with deep beliefs in spirituality, the economic freedom of all peoples, and the strength of the society for the protection of the individual over purely individualist freedoms for the sake of freedoms, the Commonality is neither left-wing or right-wing.

"Therefore, we offer to take humanitarian aid on behalf of any willing or wishing to give, and transport it to those who need it most - the people. We will not make personal contact with any rebel faction that does not wish it, but we are bound by our desire to help and prevent death; thus it is that we are willing to drop aid in certain locations revealed only to each faction (when such revelation becomes possible) for pickup.

"These sites will be quietly guarded from the skies by the Commonality Air Force and any other neutral state willing to provide their support (should the people of Random Kingdom, or, rather, their fractured leadership agree), and considered neutral territory for the duration of the civil war, should all be willing to make such a decision.

"We ask now: does Random Kingdom have the courage to grasp this oppurtunity proferred to its people? Or will the leaders of that proud nation falter in courage and strength, and resort merely to highlighting divisions while their people starve?

"Remember, the world watches. Choose carefully."

A black sedan parked in near the Peace of Life nightclub, centre of HOA activity, in Little Peace. A man walked out, carrying a hand-written message which he posted through the box of the service door:

"Dear HOA,
We are going to attempt to plunder a government reserve. By tomorrow we will hopefully be back with cash for some artillery. Please could you send a stock list? Please find enclosed a 100 stupend "contribution".
From: The NSC"

He then took a roll of duct tape, bit some off and stuck it onto the doorbell switch, holding it pressed in. He then dived back into the sedan and quickly drove off as RKDP forces opened fire. One of them then walked coolly up to the service door, peeled the tape off, and rapped at the door. It was answered with someone with the distinct look of a mafia member, right down to the strong aftershave.

"Please may we have a stock list? We have enough cash with us to buy some weapons. You sent us a letter, remember?"

As the official word from each of the factions from Random Kingdom reached Ge-Ren, a wave of demostrations has hit the capitol, calling for action. Predictably, however, which action has become a major issue. Three voices of opinion dominate the demonstrations and protests:

"Call for support of liberal factions to remove anti-Leftist influences!"

"Stay the hell out of this!"

"Call the UN and tell them to do something about it, and MAYBE we'll help!"

The government's official stance echoed most closely Option 2 by issuing this statement:

"Due to the lack of security offered by one of the factions in Random Kingdon's civil war, the Federation of Ge-Ren has elected to adopt an officially neutral stance, choosing not to offer agents for peaceful resolution, military aid, nor humanitarian assistance."

The media in Ge-Ren is split on their opinion of the decision, with conservative members generally hailing the decision as sound, and liberal factions questioning Ge-Ren's resolve to retain the leftward leanings of the Golden Hills by choosing to do nothing. Demostrations coninute in the capitol, and some organizations have been set up to raise funds for humanitarian aid regardless of the government's stance. A religious group called "Servants to the Gods of Freedom" has launched a successful website calling for "special drugs" to be purchased for victims of violence...though a few members of the media have suggested that the only thing "special" about them is that they seem to be falling into the hands of group members...

Meanwhile, a little-known watchdog website reports of a special event on a secluded air base at the southernmost island of Ge-Ren's archipelago:

A "private military company" of 100 soldiers has prepared for a flight to a location left undisclosed in the airfield's traffic log. Armed with a small arsenal of modern weaponry focused on night-time operations and some medical supplies, the unamed group has been set for a landing in leftist-held territory. No communications were left on any official channels, but a janitor working in the main hangar has leaked to us that one of the soldiers was reputed to have said:

"Let's go boys and girls. If there's one thing I hate about these Nazi gasbags, it's when they blow stink about how us "leftists" don't know how to fight. THIS lefty's blowin' holes straight through the zeppelin!"

The soldier, according to our source, was holding a high-powered machine gun in his left hand.

Random Kingdom - Various

As usual in a conflict, the requirements for medical attention for 'soldiers' increases day upon day. As all but one of the factions had agreed to the aid, and, as no other nation 'involving itself' was apparently willing or had people willing to risk their lives to save others, this meant more Iluvauromeni birds in the air.

Frankly, it was getting pointless to bother monitoring them at all. They landed, medics tramped out, smart soldiers (well camoflauged to the specific environment they found themselves in each time) fanned out protectively, and the injured were removed from the field of battle. Sometimes the soldiers were provoked to fire on positions that mistook them for the enemy; these soldiers wake up ten or fifteen minutes later, only knocked unconscious by the non-lethal weapons (shaped like short, thick wands, requiring only one hand to use) clearly carried by the well-equipped Iluvauromeni soldiers.

Thus it is that it seemed likely that nobody would notice a few dropships falling into a small village in an out-of-the-way part of Random Kingdom, a village that was perhaps not entirely for or against any of the factions but probably hoping to keep quiet and unnoticed; soldiers deployed quickly from the dropships, not bearing weapons but bearing foodstuff, and calling out in the local tongue that they come in friendship to offer support.

At this little village, the lead soldier (at least, he looks important), who does not wear full battle gear but instead wears a kind of welcoming uniform (that nontheless is no doubt functional enough to make him difficult to spot under correct circumstances) awaits someone to come out of the village to meet him. The soldiers do not approach; they stay clustered around the dropship defensively, weapons not drawn but probably only a half-second away from being out of their holsters, should the worst come to the worst. These men - and women - don't look anything special; but the almost silent manner in which they arrange themselves - discounting the friendly greetings, which needed to be loud but were no louder than needed - somehow implies a great deal of professionalism.

There is no doubt that these are not merely randomly selected soldiers.

A certain Nenya found himself in a certain predicament.

He was believed to be a God.

This was not good, he thought silently. Not good at all. Although-

In some ways, it was. It was startlingly similar to a certain facet of the plan...

But it was still absolutely, utterly, completely not good. A Very Bad Thing, in fact.

He had tried tasting the minds of those around him; they were all, as usually expected of such religious groups, firm and unyielding. He could not hope to modify their thought patterns in even the merest and tiniest way (which was invariably the only way possible); there would be no strengthening of doubt to aid his situation...

Nothing.

He would be dependant only on his wits.

Therefore, he saw it was wise not to argue. Instead, he became ambiguous. When questions were asked, he neatly evaded them, well aware that it would take something drastic to convince them he wasn't what they thought he was (if they did and were not merely attempting to confuse him, which did not seem indicated) - but only very little to convince them that they were in fact absolutely right.

Which, annoyingly, also ruled out the use of Art. Art seemed very much like Magic, and, although the Menelmacari had blurred the lines to amplify their own apparent might, the Nenyar did not believe in such use of Art. Their Art was the Art of illusions, and the Art of devising things from numerous pre-existing objects and forming them into something else - 'creation', if you will.

They either used their hands for the real, or their minds for the illusions; but neither, here, was possible. If he created an illusion with his mind, that would surely reinforce their belief that he was a God. If he tried to trick his way out of the situation with clever tools or devices - and Eru only knew what use anything he could think of would be, compared to what he already carried - then that, too, would probably reinforce their belief.

So ambiguity it was, then. And patience. He just needed the right moment to do something...

Something that hopefully would not result with his head being firmly affixed to a pointed object. He did not overly mind the thought of the Halls (especially with the firm certainty in his heart and mind of his later return), but it would be nice to live just a little bit longer.

"Hmm... very interesting. We will be back with some cash from the vault soon. Good luck in your business, Ivanov. Oh, and don't be stupid - don't sell anything to the nazis. They don't deserve arms, and they won't need them anyway when we retake what is ours. Goodbye."

In the meantime they had virtually taken control of the Random Kingdom Black Market. They would sell all sorts of things to the local, drugs, food, and medical supplies. Meanwhile, at the airfield......

The Virginians soon began to escort the arms to their destination. Arming their M4's with M203's and MAC-10's, they soon got in the truck and any other vehicles that could be spared, to provide support.

Before they went, the Commander, Hendricks, radioed Virginian High Command on a secure line: "We're in. As soon as we make it to our destination, send a helicopter to pick us up......and send more guns, we've our drop point."

They then began the long journey to get the arms to where they needed to go....

Crown Guard High Command, somewhere in Iluvauromen

"See? The picture confirms it. The aid we're taking into the nation is not getting through. This is why we've had to make repeat trips. They're not hoarding - they're being stolen from."

The High Admiral scowled at the report. He was not impressed. Stealing from civilians...

Calmly, careful to keep his tone level, he asked the intel man: "Who are they?

"No idea. They're not making it obvious, of course. They just wait until our forces leave, then move in. We're getting reports from the civilians themselves, now, as well; they're making it plain that they're not happy. They need protecting, and we simply cannot commit to a ground operation on that scale. - Well, obviously, we could. But it would be prohibitively expensive."

Xeral Dethra stared. "Are you saying we can't help those people because it will cost too much?" He was disgusted, and obviously so. He didn't quite scowl, but then, he did not need to. It was obvious.

"Yes," came the answer. Blunt.

"Bullshit," the High Admiral disagreed. Even more blunt.

"Look, sir," ah, so there was the respect, "I'm not here to tell you how to do your job. But we do not have the resources to put sufficiently trained personnel on the ground. Nor do we have any legal way of inserting air assets capable of protecting the ground. We can pick and choose, but we can't cover all the bases. For that, we'll need outside help. - And our allies are all either busy, or unlikely to commit. The most likely support we know of would be the Federation; but they're busy with their own war. - Hell, we shouldn't even be involved. Significant resources are committed to liberating Dregruk, you know. We have some of our best occupying forces apparently permanently stationed in Wolf Ville, to boot."

"And the Peacekeepers are not ready for this kind of operation."

The new voice cut in abruptly; Bao Ling had entered the small contained area, scowling. "You can't expect them to be ready yet. They're not even fully formed. Sure, we put it out that we've deployed them previously, but you know damned well those were special forces soldiers in Peacekeeper uniforms. - So no. We aren't ready. And I'll be advising the Council of exactly that."

Musing aloud, the High Admiral stroked his chin thoughtfully, peering at the charts of the country in question. "How about securing the border. Preventing anyone else from entering. I'm sure the general consensus would be that that would be a perfectly fair operation. We don't even need to commit forces. Just tell them that there's a Battlegroup in cislunar space supported by high-res satelites that can count the hairs on a terrorist's arse - and shave 'em with a kinetic. They won't mess around, I suspect."

"Might work. Still expensive, however," was the intel man's response. Why he was still here was not quite obvious, but Dethra was sure the man's sole purpose was to aggravate him. Clearly, that was so.

"I'll forward the suggestion," High Admiral Xeral Dethra murmoured softly, thoughtfully.

The leader of the so-called Random Kingdom Reclamation Society, has vowed to capture the HOA leader in RK and make him suffer for what his bandits have done to their lands.

The gothic splendour of Andoron City surrounded the Fortress Akarmina, home of Cipher VI, current monarch of Geckratonia. Inside, a weary but wealthy RKDP leader, Amin Rankov, was discussing a most unusual trade with the gothic monarch.

"So, let me get this straight. You want the nation of Geckratonia to provide you with... technological support?"

"Yes. Inside this briefcase I have the last remaining connection to the network of Yggdrassil. We call it the Node of Artemis. All we ask is that you take this modem and install it in one of your universities."

"And what will you give us, if we install this, uh, Node of Artemis?"

"Once you wire a supercomputer to the modem, you should be able to access the entire collection of discoveries and observations by the institutions of Random Kingdom. You can use it do develop your technology, and at the same time you can help us to win this war."

"It is lucky for you humans that we have an institute in the basement, with one of the fastest terminals in Geckratonia. Go and install it now, but if it doesn't help either of us, we shall execute you. It's just down the steps to the left."

And so Rankov went and installed the modem. To his surprise and delight it connected. Not a computer expert, he then flicked impatiently at the on switch of the supercomputer, which failed to work because of a gap between the power supply and the high-voltage power-source. Rankov quickly and embarassedly pushed the plug in and flicked a big switch, resulting in a hissing noise and low-pitched bleeps sounding from the terminal. This is going to be a long night, he thought pessimistically. He wished he had been on a raft to Sweatshoponia.

Now that threat actually scared Ivonov. He ordered a SA-8 stationed in the alley next to the nightclub, a multi-jammer installed to stop guided munitions(Sattelite, Laser guided, radar guided, etc.), two technicals with TOW launchers stationed infront, and some HOA Thugs wielding SA-7s, SVD Sniper Rifles, and AEK-101 Assualt Rifles on top.

A stream of useless data mainly regarding calculus flashed on the screen. Rankov flicked impatiently at the pointing device until a flashy heading appeared, neatly proclaiming, "WEAPON RESEARCH". Below it, flashing in red, "Users are attempting to enter this branch using an incorrect password. Branch locked down for 28 min 59 sec and counting." This proved Rankov's fears to be correct - the NSC were attempting to break into the files.

He took a sheet of paper out of his briefcase, tapped in a stream of seemingly random characters into the keypad and to his delight a green message, "Lockdown bypass code accepted. Branch open exclusively to user 19228." Immediately a diagram appeared on the screen, showing the topics and observations available to study. Rankov clicked on one of the observations. The one named WEAPON RESEARCH > HAZARDOUS COMPOUNDS > NUCLEAR MISSILE > RESEARCH MODEL.

A geckoid wearing dark brown stepped into the room. "Have you found the article yet, human?" he said in a rather warped, almost mechanical voice.

"Yes, I have. Geckratonia will soon have nuclear technology available. If this is the risk we have to take to drive the nazis and mafia out of our land, then so be it."

Somewhere in Anarda University, New Hope, State of Enigma...

"Damnit! What is the darn password? The more time we waste, the more time the commies have to kick our butts back to the minorities and Sweatshoponia."

"I'm working on it, si... What the f*** just happened? Someone just logged on! But the system is in lockdown!"

"Argh!" The NSC general wheeled round to face the prisoners. "What is the damn password?"

"Sorry, can't divulge that information. Not to fascist pigs like you."

"You commies make me sick, and will do for the LAST TIME!" He threw his Mac-10 across the room. He then drew a knife. "You will soon wish you hadn't been so impudent to your superiors!" And so ended the lives of Burke and Skinner.

A rumor began to go about that the HOA had shipped in some Sarin Nerve Gas and SCUD-B missiles to deliver the chemcial agent.

"OK. We now have the technology to deliver nuclear missiles, but still not the resources. We need, let me see, uranium for starters. Aluminium casing. And other stuff." Obviously Rankov was slow on the nuclear uptake. "We have some in HQ, but not enough to end this war."

The geckoid smiled.
"We can help with that, if you have enough cash. 7 billion stupends for starters."

"Seven BILLION!?!?!? You must be joking."

"Well, we have taxes to pay, bribes to pass around, gagging clauses to make, and of course we have to trade with the monopolists. A bargain, I would say, considering the overhead."

"Well, OK. We'll need to raid the government's gold deposits. And, of course, there are nazis and mafia members around. We need protection."

A grenade rolled up to the hi-security door of the deposit, followed by three more. The door toppled over and crashed into the (abandoned) security desk, hitting an alarm switch and starting a cacophony of deafening "woo-woo"s. Rankov drove a VA carrier, with two geckoids (and some humans in a following carrier) in tow, into the centre of the deposit.

"Wait you two, stand here." - Which they did.

Rankov drew two overcharged tazers (in each hand) and zapped both of them with them. Keeping the energy flowing for a while, until the batteries on both cut out, he just managed to give them both a lethal dose.

Two hours later, he emerged in Andoron with a hefty deposit going towards the seven billion he had to gather.

Unfortuanantly... the HOA had decided to rob that very same vault. Soon after Rankov arrived, two T-80U Main Battle Tanks and several military style trucks pulled up in front of the vault. They were immediatly tipped off that someone was here, mainly because the door had been knocked down and the alarms were going, AEK-101s raised, the thugs entered the vault.

The long explanation etc. post:

FOUR WEEKS AGO -
"Here is seven billion stupends, some of it raided from NSC held sources. Use the technology and build me a simple nuclear weapon capable of taking these guys out."

PRESENTLY -
Rankov pushed the geckoid away from the control panel. Now he had a (primitive) weapon of mass destruction in his hands, he could do what he had been sent to do. Two VA carriers with heavy machine guns onboard smashed through the wall and trained their sights on Cipher VI, who was standing in the centre of the makeshift silo's control station. Rankov stepped forward and turned to face the taken-aback geckoid. He pulled the mask from his face, and became Aman Sorenson, leader of the NSC.

"It was so easy to fool you, all I had to do was disguise myself and pretend to "lead" these people to victory. And now I've duped you into building the NSC a weapon capable of flattening any communist nation I please! But of course, I need to eliminate the problems in this empire first. In five minutes exactly, this missile will flatten most of the State of Enigma, centre of all communist efforts, and eliminate the big problem in my life. And when I have Random Kingdom under my thumb, I can tax the hell out of the people, generate enough cash to import nuclear technology from other nations, and eliminate communism everywhere!"

"You're mad," the monarch said. "You'll never get away with what you plan to do."

And that was the last he proclaimed as machine gun fire ripped through his body, coupled with bursts from Sorenson's tazer.

FLASHBACK -

When the HOA thugs entered the vault, Rankov showed his true identity to them, as well as the soldiers accompanying him. After all, he arrived in a VA troop car (the earmark of an NSC operation), didn't he?

Crash.

Bang.

Wallop.

"Where's the almighty kaboom?"

The "nuclear missile" missed its target by kilometres, crashing instead into Western RK and just sticking there without any devastating explosion. Sorenson, watching New Hope and a city in the west with a range of screens in the fortress (for defense and observation), was obviously taken aback.

"What the heck is going on?"

The face of the deceased geckoid dictator flashed on screen, in what was obviously a recorded message.

"If your name's Rankov and you're watching in disbelief at the lack of destruction, it's because we couldn't get uranium anywhere with only seven billion, so we swapped the nuclear missile with a biological weapon. Also, the targeting system is a bit flimsy and so the weapon has a range of error of about, hmm... a few kilometres. Sorry about that."

Sorenson pounded the screens with his fist.

I'll try to keep it interesting by presenting it in a rather unorthadox chronological (dis)order...

IC: 5 years later, and the civil war has ended, after the NSC collapsed due to the loss of its leader, Aman Sorenson. But the nation of Randon Kingdom has too collapsed. The west is devoid of human presence, and the east has been almost completely destroyed.

5 years before, Sorenson trusted the geckoids of Geckratonia with the construction of a nuclear weapon capable of flattening Random Kingdom. What he got was a biological weapon that eliminated most of his western armies. Horrified, he took his own life.

Some time later and the virus began to affect the east. Geckratonia, however, has not been affected due to the geckoids' immunity to the virus used (almost all other biological weapons, however, will harm them).

Sometime later, it disappeared from the east.

Presently, ten years after the civil war broke out. Eastern Random Kingdom has been repaired. Now the land to the west, condition unknown, will soon be used again. The new CSU (rightists have been deported out of the country to stop a war from happening again) has ordered teams of scientists to examine the western lands.

Sorry... was that *too* fast and sudden?

The HOA had taken control of the west... being the only ones with bio-warfare suits(specially 'borrowed' from various military stocks around the world) they had survived the virus and now had complete control over the west. They were the west Random Kingdom DE FACTO Goverment now. And they had the weapons to enforce their presence... it wouldnt be long before the Red Tide Corporations noticed the success of their black market counterparts success... and would move in to take advantage of economic opportunities... and with the Red Tide Corporations involved... Red Tide Military presence was sure to follow.
