Holy Republic of Zelsa

Zelsa
14-02-2005, 07:00
The camera showed nothing but a heavy enclosed oak desk with a high-back leather chair behind it. The contents on the desk were sparse but the only noticeable feature was what hung behind he chair. A flowing white flag adorned the wall, with a massive crimson red symbol splitting it into thirds. A massive 'Y'.

Suddenly, a large, heavily bearded man entered the picture, sitting himself down in the leather executive chair. His robe was of pure snow white, a radiant white. Red stripes dominated his shoulders and joined with a solid red line moving up the center of the robe. As he positioned himself, he raised his head and glared into the camera with fierce, penetrating blue eyes.

"People of the world... I come to you on behalf... Of the Holy Republic of Zelsa. We are a people, newly given freedom by our esteemed masses, who rebelled against the chaotic and despotic leadership of today. We have seperated ourselves and come to our only true leader. The Y." With that, he graciously bowed his head. Upon lifting it back up he continued, "He decides everything. Everything about us, for He has the divine power, the ultimate power, to give us life and everything we enjoy. We follow Him with determination for we know He will lead us to a future life of never-ending happiness. He has released us from struggle. And we urge all of you to worship... The Y... In the Sky." He once again bowed his head.

The camera cut to a scene, atop a majestic hill where a massive structure had been erected. It gleamed of gold yet stood strong against the elements. It was in the shape of a 'Y', with two arms outreached to the sky, as if embracing it, reaching for something beyond, yet its bottom sat firmly implanted into this most majestic of hills. As the scene paused for a minute, his voice returned...

"We urge you to reconsider your religions, your false religions, for the Y is your true higher entity. For now, all of you reside in His cross-hairs. Once in a great while, the Y will move, His head turning to face a new foe, which He will destroy with no mercy or compassion. Switch now, to our most holy religion, follow the Y, for He is your future. Your destiny. You have the power to change it, follow the Y..."

As the statement ended, a chorus song played gently with an enchanting tune, "We must all worship... The Y... In the Skyyyyyyyyy."

At last, the hilly scene and music cut out, being replaced by the Zelsan flag.

Foreign Minister Aurora von Konigsmark blinked, and sat back in her desk. "That was odd." she said, as she watched the end of the message. She recorded it and sent it to the Chancellor just in case he hadn't gotten it.

To the Holy Republic of Zelsa

I would like to know what the Y is and why we should worship it. Many congratulates on this the event of your arrival on the international scene.

In a statement released by the Prophets of the Y:

"My dear Aurora von Konigsmark, the Y is never to be questioned for He is our most glorious savior. He has released us from the terrible grip of these heathenous religions which so enshroud the world today. We wish to thank you for your kind words of welcome, however, we must warn you that the Y is not to be dismissed, and we must stress that the only chance you have at survival is to accept the Y and its inevitable rule.

We once again urge you to see the light, embrace the Y for it is your true, and only, savior..."

If your puny false religion dares make an impression upon our people the armies of the Sumer and Taino people will be upon your doorstep with a thirst for blood.
The great goddess Inanna with her golden blade will spill the worthless blood of your false god with ease. Her sister, the great Ereshkigal, will have your souls for eternal torture.

"How dare your worthless nation, its worthless godesses, and its false beliefs attempt to deface our religion. For in the end, it will be the Y who stands tall, grinding your heathenous godesses' broken bodies into the dirt and mud to which they originally belong. Like a farmer and his scythe, the Great Y will slay your people with no mercy or compassion. You, your people, and your worthless godesses will be thrown into an eternal hell, courtesy of the Great Y.

Now bow down in forgivenance and beg for mercy, because there's no other way the Great Y will hesitate in your demise."

Heretics!

Know this! The declaration of hostilities against the Serene Nation of Zelsa will be met with the declaration of Holy War against your nation by our followers of the Y! We may be few, but our cause is just, and the Y is our leader! We will destroy ALL that oppose us and our most holy way of life! Bow to the Y now while you still have your life, and dedicate your soul to him, before he takes away the very breath in your lungs and purges your soul of existance! Be warned...Do not take the Y lightly...And never anger him while in a fishing boat.

Jamie Bladen, Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Kingdom of Romandeos looked like he had just smelled something foul as the message from Zelsa drew to its end.

"It looks like they're......worshipping a gigantic slingshot," he said. He lifted his coffee mug from his desk and took a sip, then shook his head in confusion.

"Now I can safely say I've seen everything."

Letter to The Prophets of the Y.

It is safe to say that your religion confuses us, and we do not really see how it is possible for a group of people to worship a giant letter, but we are not in the habit of turning messengers out without a good reason. We should like to propose a diplomatic meeting between our two countries to help our Kingdom to better understand your Holy Republic, and vice versa.

He has thwarted countless attempts to invade our land, and he shall continue to do so. However, we would be willing to discuss our national and religious agenda with your leadership in the hopes of spreading the Y's word across the world, where it is needed to save those hapless souls, at the mercy of false Gods.

"Your threats are meaningless and in vain, for no national, military, or religious force could penetrate our most glorious defense network. The Great Y has defended us from invasion before and will do it again. As for your purported might, it can easily be squashed by the Great Y. A small bug such as yourself could not survive the crushing blow of a sledge hammer, now could it? An invasion of our land would signify a decree of war on the Great Y, and that decree would not be taken lightly. The Great Y and His indomitable followers will arise to defend against any invasion that threatens our great leader. The Great Y, a cult?! Although our nation uses currency for daily transactions, and our religion rules the nation, our spiritual leaders do not recieve pay. They receive their wealth in spiritual means, with the prophets being rewarded for their never-ending commitment to the Y. Our people strive for that spiritual wealth, those who commit their lives to the Y receive their rewards, spiritual wealth, a cleansing. However, those who do not follow the Y are dealth with, severely by the unforgiving eyes of the Y.

We will not retract our 'vile statements' for they are the truth and are only further testament to the strength and importance of the Great Y. Although we will not retract our statements, we will not continue our verbal attacks."

-Prophets of the Y
Holy Republic of Zelsa

=============

Across Zelsa, the people had arrisen to defend against the possible foreign invasion. These people, weary from a seemingly endless war which had concluded not long ago, were readying themselves, preparing... They all knew the Great Y would do what it had done before. In the final year of the war, when the Zelsans were fighting their oppressors, the Great Y had moved. It had turned its head and its three blades to the west, to the lake many referred to as 'Devils Lake'. There, the Casbanians, attempting an amphibious attack in the early morning hours, were struck down by a massive storm which erupted as they set to the water. The only Casbanian equipment to arrive at shore that morning were the wreckage of the fishing and military boats they had used, and the seemingly endless stream of bodies. Two days later, the war ended with the Casbanians pulling out of Zelsa, after the Casbanian leadership was informed of what had happened on Devils Lake. Since then, the Zelsans knew the Great Y was their savior, and their worshipping of it provided them hope and assurance to the future. Since the war, the nation had been prosperous. Food was plentiful, the nation was pure, and there was no conflict on the horizon... Now it had all changed.

Using old fortifications from the old war, former soldiers returned to duty once again, garrisoning these old forts and walls. Air defense units, namely outdated Soviet and American equipment whirred to life, as did the nation's only radar stations, of which there were six. The national air force, a rag-tag group of MiG-21s, MiG-25s, F-5 TigerSharks, and a few scattered F-16A fighters were activated, quickly being reamed with the few left over armaments. The national navy, its biggest vessel being a destroyer (they had two), was also prepped, with patrol elements heading to sea. The seemingly docile looking fishing boats and civilian yachts held five inch guns, missile batteries, and machine guns. Although their fire power was lacking, they had the element of surprise and speed. Shore batteries were also prepared and hidden with netting and natural foliage.

Armaments were handed out to the nation's civilians in the event of war, each family recieved at least two rifles. The regular Army, which only had about six thousand infantry in it, were outfitted primarily with AKMs, due to their ruggedness, cheapness, and availability. The civilians had sporting arms, hunting rifles, shotguns, pistols, and some surplus military gear. Tanks were few and far between, mainly due its position of only having two neighbors (one on each side, a lake to the west and the ocean to the east). One of those neighbors was Karnosh, a nation which had converted to Yism.

The industries of Zelsa, although outdated and small, were ready to begin creating munitions, but hadn't yet begun, since the general belief was that war would not erupt, either by the other side standing down or by divine Y intervention. Either way, the nation cautiously prepared itself for possible war...

14-02-2005, 15:11
OOC- Lol, no, its not even as big as you think it is. The oppressors attempted to amphibiously attack the capital via Devils Lake using commandeered fishing vessels and the like. Only about six hundred of them attempted to attack although their intelligence sucked, they set to sea when a low pressure front was moving in from the east. What does that mean? The wind pushed the three bladed head towards the west (the lake), and a storm arose (as do low pressure fronts tend to create storms).

Fresh water fishing boats don't do well in Category III weather, now would they? They're designed for swells only two feet high, a nice storm on a larger lake will certainly compromise a fishing boat's maritime security. So, its all within the realm of possibility.

Despite the revoking of hostilities by Field Marshal Puabi Hamur, the Prophets have adviced the populace to stay alert for anything out of the ordinary. Patrols are formed in towns, and men of all ages walk the streets with their Kalashnikov-type rifles to guarantee the safety of their families and friends from the outside aggressors. Some with RPG-7's, SVD's, and/or scoped SKS rifles sit atop houses on the lookout for the enemy. Any old tanks that may reside within the borders of Karnosh are located and the process of restoration is begun to bring them to a servicable state. There aren't many, however, and wouldn't provide much of a defense, as they are mostly WW2-1960's era Soviet built equipment. Overall, the people and the militia are about as ready as they can be for an attack. The Prophets await any further response from the International community.

"Zhuvnod, ignore it. We know, ourselves, what shall happen to them if they attempt their leisurely 'walk' through our nation... They would crumble to the ground, wiped out by the Great Y. Our nation will become their deathbed, and we will rejoice. For if they attempt it, it will only bolster our spirits while weakening their own. Remember, Zhuvnod, the Great Y will protect us." Ghevin nodded lightly, a highly un-amused look on his face.

Zhuvnod gulped lightly, attempting to make it unnoticeable to Ghevin but he knew the Great Y saw it. He bowed his head, "I'm sorry for doubting the Y and you Prophet Ghevin." Upon raising his head he gave a nod and quickly left the room.

Ghevin watched the new Prophet leave, he quietly spoke to himself, "Such young ones..." He grumbled a bit.

As it goes, I'm still waiting on ViZion and Canada and them people on what they do.
You can't argue that if I invade you, it will certianly help with the RP experiance, which you pull off very good by the way.

OOC- Here's the map...Capital is Zelsa. The nation lies between the ocean and a large lake of where there is one prominent island, Casbah (not to be confused with Casbania, our former oppressors). The mountain range splits the nation in half, creating North and South Zelsa. Our neighbors to the south are Karnosh and well, no one to the north.

Minnewaukan, where the interview will take place, is situated just within South Zelsa (I may have said North Zelsa) and is placed among a prairie-type surrounding with gently rolling hills and the mountains in the distance. The rest of the country is temperate, with the south being noticeably more rugged and unforgiving.

The blue dots signify major cities. If needed, I can make one with military installations included, however, most major cities have an adjoining air force or army base.

Wat kinds of military equipment/numbers do you have? So I can continue my planning.
If you don't want to give that out, fine, just more surprises down the road, lol.

EDIT: I hope you don'tmind, but I added a grid system to your map, makes it much easier to use in these situations.

OOC: Same here, just some skirmishing stuff around the nation in question. Helps the RP skills, makes for some fun, and if I end up occupying Zelsa (not likely, I have no such interest), he gains a strong ally in me. And new, cheap, military equipment.
So really, as warrish as it it, it's win-win!

"Prophet Zhuvnod... It is a given that Dostanuot Loj intends to either invade us or attack us in some shape or form. We will use this interview to our advantage as it will likely give us several days or even weeks of preparation. I want you to tell Prophet Erezhna that he must inform Zealot General Tobias to form defensive perimeters along our ocean-exposed beach heads, except the Island (referring to Zelsa Island, the large island which creates the Bay of Zelsa)."

He paused, momentarily, to produce a map with crudely drawn formations on it. "I conferred with Prophet Erezhna (who was the Prophet devoted to military and security issues) about our possible battle plans. We agreed upon moving the Righteous Zealots (two battalions from rural Zelsa) to the bluffs overlooking the island's land bridge to the mainland (where a canal also resides). Chances are, they'll land forces on the island, in order to get a staging point for future operations. Now, they'll likely use the land bridge to get access to the mainland, in order to ease logistical strain of attempting to navigate into the Bay of Zelsa, which we'll cordone off with mines and whatever naval defense we can muster."

He circled the area on the map where the island meets the mainland, "Chances are, they'll use air support to attack ground forces in the area, but hopefully we'll have them well enough hidden that some if not more manage to escape destruction in order to slaughter them as they attempt to cross into the mainland. We'll keep air defense in the region light and make sure they move there under cloud cover... We aren't that dumb."

Once again, he paused, attempting to remember something, "Ahh, yes... He also advised me, as well as the Navy, to mine each entrance to the Bay of Zelsa. Luckily, the southern entrance, without the canal, is too shallow for their larger vessels, such as anything likely above destroyer. So, that'll mean they can't send anything besides light vessels through the souther entrance. The canal (which has no locks and is just a carved out piece of land where ships can pass), can support vessels with a larger draft, but it couldn't support the likes of a carrier, mainly due to the width and sheer tonnage problems. So, we're going to mine the Bay side of the canal, so as their ships enter one by one, they get knocked out. Erezhna informed me that we already have concealed shore batteries in place, along with a few batteries of small artillery. So, when the spearhead of the force gets taken out and they're marred in the canal, we'll open up with the shore batteries and take out as many vessels as we can, we only need to stall them from entering through the canal. A good six or seven ship pile up should do it, especially if we sink one."

Zhuvnod nodded as Ghevin talked before interjecting, "Prophet Ghevin, what types of mines?"

Ghevin scanned his mind for what Erezhna had said, "Magnetic proximity, along with a few improvised devices detonated via wire. We'll have observers on shore... Oh, and a few snipers to create confusion in the bridges of the vessels, so they get marred much easily."

"Ahh, what about the southern entrance?" Zhuvnod questioned.

"Tonight, Erezhna has decided to scuttle four of our older naval vessels, three of which serve absolutely no purpose, aside from being mothballed, and the other is a civilian cruiser which was conscripted. All four will be scuttled in the shallows in order to funnel their forces through choke points. With the Harvey Brigade already in place, they can pepper the area with artillery fire. Shore batteries, positioned on the tips of the two landmasses can also fire, although they will likely be eliminated. Erezhna assured me they will begin mining operations at nightfall at the choke points while creating a general strip where any survivors can, hopefully, be eliminated."

Zhuvnod gave a questioning glance, "No ships?"

"Young one, there shall be ships... Yes. There will be a four ship detachment which will lure the enemy into the bay, three frigates and a missile boat. They will travel through an open space in the mining, and as they pass, drop mines. Other ships, however, will attempt to hold back the enemy in South Zelsa. The rest of the Navy will stay in the Bay of Zelsa, hidden among the jutting peninsulas and minor bays across the main bay."

With a slow nod, Zhuvnod uttered his agreement, "Very well though out plan, Prophet. I have no doubt that your planning and our Great Y's divinity shall protect us, the enemy may touch our shores but the only thing that will remain will be their blood, which will fertilize the land, their efforts in vain." He coughed lightly, breaking the silence which enveloped them, "However, Ghevin, what about South Zelsa?"

"South Zelsa is rugged, there are only maybe three points to land by water: South Zelsa Bay, South Zelsan Peninsula, and where the Shevina River enters the ocean. Otherwise, we have the Minnewaukan Brigades, the South Zelsan Militia, and the Rolla Brigades scattered across the area, sure to mount a viable guerilla-type defense. If the make it into South Zelsa, they'll have to cross the Zelsan Range, which is all but impossible, and would require weeks of careful travel. The only real route they could take is along the coast line but we've stationed two full brigades and the regional militia in the area, along with extensive fortifications. The Mountaineer Regiment will also protect the trails crossing the Zelsan Range. As for North Zelsa, we have most of the regular army in the area to mount a ready defense. The Marines, along with a few battalions of regular army are in charge of defending Zelsa City. If all else fails, we can retreat to Casbah, where we have a hundred or so militia members stationed to protect the island and aid in its defense if the time comes to where it is next."

"Thank you Prophet Ghevin, for enlightening me. Prophet Arvhoud (or Arzhoud) wished to inform you that he has left for Minnewaukan, final preparations have been made there for the interview which is to take place... Soon?"

Ghevin eyed the young Prophet, "Yes... Good. He should almost be there by now, I wonder if the interviewers are present, they should find the region very pleasing to the eye. Maybe, from their position, the can see the Great Y..."

Zhuvnod quietly agreed, "Yes, possibly. Prophet Ghevin, may I take leave? I have business to attend to with my Sub Council."

"You may." was Ghevin's short response. Prophet Zhuvnod bowed and hurredly left the room, leaving Prophet Ghevin refining his defense plans for the nation...

"Should blows come to blows, the nation of Novikov is prepared to protect Dostanuot Loj and her allies on whatever course of action they deem necessary. We wish it to be stressed that the reasoning behind this tenative support lies not in the theological but the practical, as we act only out of a debt of graditude towards Dostanuot Loj and her people."
