The Imperium announced the addition of missile based IG virus munitions to the ITD arsenal of biological weapons. The first warheads being adapted are the LGM-30 Minuteman III missiles, which make up a large portion of the ITD long range delivery packages. The warheads have a shelf life of 7 years and have a unit cost of 2.4 million dollars (the warhead only) or 8.6 million (complete package). Extra shielding required retrofitting of existing missiles, which will take at least 2 years to complete. The retrofitted missile has been given a new designation. The missile is known now as "Shambling Horde Mark I."
Upon reaching its target, the missile will release its payload. The warheads will aerosolize soon after. Because the virus is air and waterborne, contamination will be attained almost immediately. Early symptoms include burning skin, stiff muscles and uncontrollable thirst. Blotches appear on the skin, eyes may pale and the victim will begin to feel tired and sick. Within three hours, the victim begins to die. The victim will suffer convulsions and may experience seizures and tremors. Within 10 minutes after death, the victim will rise and attack any nearby persons. Bites and scratches from those infected also lead to infection.
Infection rates decrease outside the infected zone, but prevailing winds may cause infected zones to shift. The infected zone doubles in width every 8 hours, depending on the rate of infection and any imposing areas such as walls and buildings. Needless to say, the chances of survival are very slim.
