Bergist to Dig into the Mountains

ooc: This is more for suggestions, as technically Bergist isn't announcing this to the world.

The final drawings of the plans had been completed just days prior. The project had quickly passed in the National Congress. And now, all that was stood in the way of Project Golemn was a single signature: that of the President of Bergist.

This was the single largest project to be undertaken by the country in years. A nation inherently well-endowed with many grand mountain ranges, it had been afforded adequate protection from nearby hostile peoples. These very mountain ranges had been the reason the Bergistian air force had become so powerful. Essentially all the U.S.S.B. had to fear was a major air attack, at least in the past.

However, this was the dawning of a new era. With many forces in the area becoming more advanced, it was becoming more and more possible for the enemy to cross the Etruskin Range to stab at Bergistian cities. To this end, vast new defenses were needed. And for this, even today, the people of Bergist turned back to their great golemns.

The plan was not all that complex. In essense, it was a subterranean base, one built both under, and to some level into, the grand mountains ringing the country. It would start in the north, burrowing deep into the ground. Several upper compartments would be dug into the base of the mountains, access points heavily fortified and vaguely resembling rabbit burrows. This, however, was only the upper level. Stairways and elevators spiraled down into the earth, to find a thick, heavily plated layer of metal to protect against bomb blasts, if they, by odd happenstance, were to penetrate the mountain. And so it continued downward, stockpiled with enough food to last thousands for a month--at least once it was completed.

From the north, it was to follow the Etruskin Range down to the east and south, ending where it met the shoreline of Bergist's west coast. The complex when completed would be immense. And to build it would likely cost trillions of dollars and many years.

Looking it over one last time, President Joseph Krane signed his name to the paper.

ooc: Any suggestions? Assume the actual signing of this took place something like four to five years ago and construction is already well on its way, just to speed things up a bit.

Figured on large scale stockpiling with enough food for at least a month, assuming that the facility is at its maximum population (ooc: not sure what it is yet. ;) ). Other than that underground hydroponics (sp?) bays will be providing a bit as well...Enough so as to extend stay to a couple of months if necessary.

Ah, it would be cool if you moved your whole people into the mountains forever. They could be like Dwarfs lol.

Heh heh, if theres ever a major attack on Bergist I figured this would be a good way to keep everyone relatively safe. I might just have to create a nation of dwarves now...lol.
