Press release 11/02/05

"To mark his 29th birthday, our glorious leader, the Supreme Chairman has declared a day of national celebration.

There will be a lavish parade of Rhanukhan's military might during which all foreign dignitaries in the country will prostrate themselves before the Supreme Chairman at a special ceremony at midday. Rhanukhani citizens will be expected to work the full 24 hours without pay, thus boosting our economy to honour the occasion. Compliance is mandatory.

Happy Birthday your Resplendance!"

The Supreme Chairman stood on his balcony watching a flight of S17 Warhawks fly low along the line of the Avenue of the Dedicated Worker, the sun glinting off the radiation symbols on their nuclear payloads. He felt a moment of pride as he returned the salutes of another of his elite regiments of the Golden Guard - taken from their parents and trained from birth to be the finest fighting men in the region - and cast a brief glance over the grovelling ambassodors of various nations who’d gathered to honour him.

His birthday had been particularly good this year; His Chancellor predicted still further improvement in the economy whilst the ministry of death had just sent a message announcing that according to the midday figure analysis, less citizens were expected to die in the factories than during last year’s celebratory full-day shifts. Yes... everything was looking full of promise...

Just then Horatio Cutler, the Minister of Foreign Affairs burst in waving a telegram.

“Your Resplendance,” he said, making the appropriate gestures of deference, “We have just recieed this from the Machine Warriors - they appear to take a dim view of our national work ethic and appear to be making thinly veiled threats of strong action.”

“There’s always one, isn’t there?” sighed the Supreme Chairman, “These less advanced nations who don’t recognize that the good citizens of Rhanukhan simply love their country and wish to see it succeed. Tell me, are the Machine Warriors customers of ours?”

“I’m afraid not, your Resplendance” replied Cutler.

“A shame... we won’t be able to close their account, but they need to be shown they can’t threaten the hard working Rhanukhani people and expect to get away with it...”

Cutler checked his palmtop computer for a moment.
“Your Resplendance, it appears there is already a representative of the Machine Warriors in Rhanukhan - they sent an ambassador a couple of weeks ago to discuss the posibility of large-scale weapons purchase from Rhanukhani Armatech - our largest manufacturer in that field. According to our police tracking system he’s outside right now amongst the dignitaries...”

The Supreme Chairman looked towards the window again.
“Excellent - have the Ambassador ejected from the country and returned to his own government.”

“At once, your Resplendance! In how many pieces?”

“I believe twenty nine would be appropriate, considering the occasion...”
