----Incumbent retained after "glorious triumph" in Sunday's poll.----

After ministerial elections were held in Unified Bubnor yesterday, both candidates have declared victory in what appears to have been a 51-49 victory after preferences to the incumbent First Minister's Democrat Party, though many independent observers have indicated that they have reservations about the result.

Insurgent violence erupted last night in the capital when First Minister Thomas Cordery appeared on TV to announce what he described as a "glorious triumph against all the odds." The military were called in to defend parliament house as protesters threw molotov cocktails and fired rifles into the air whilst marching down First Avenue. During the clashes, 2 soldiers and about 30 protesters were killed, along with several hundred injuries.

Anticipating further violence, especially in the province of Andal, if the alternative candidate, Peter Christian, refuses to stand down, the respective militia units for each city have been recalled to defend civil and military assets in each region.

----Bomb Blast rips through heart of Downtown Andal.----

A giant explosion has killed scores and injured hundreds in Downtown Andal. It was believed that this bomb, set off by radical supporters of the opposition candidate Peter Christian, was carried in a truck that was left parked outside a shopping mall.

As yet, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and neither the First Minister nor Peter Christian have been available for comment.

----First Minister expresses shock and outrage at bombing, threats.----

The first minister expressed his shock and anger at the tactics of people he dubbed "rebels, dedicated to the destruction of peace and progress in this great nation," in an address to the press this afternoon. He also begged Peter Christian to "understand what this course of action would do to this nation," and offered a large cash reward for the capture of insurgents responsible for the morning's bombing. Thomas Cordery also ordered the third and second fleets back into port from duties in international waters, whilst the first fleet is currently providing security and aid to the far-flung islands of Meria and Buyan, both hit very hard by Typhoon Clarisse last week.

In related news, the death toll from the explosion has reached 240, with over 500 people in hospital with injuries of varying seriousness.

Public Announcement, Andal Radio - 7:30pm

Peter Christian: 'I wish to stress, in these times of turmoil, just how imperative it is that so-called "First Minister" Thomas Cordery stand down and show the world that Unified Bubnor is still a democratic nation.'

[deep breath]

'Though I have prefaced my remarks with a stern warning, I do not condone the violence perpetrated by terrorist groups in the cities of Unified Bubnor, no more than I condone those who illegally sieze power. What happened in Andal was not by my hand, but more by the hand of some of my extreme supporters. It was not my will that this happened, and it is a tragedy of monstrous proportions that the power-grabbing nature of some has inflamed sections of the population so.'

'All I can say is that if democracy is not observed, these actions will happen again. I do not wish civilians to be harmed. If I can find these men among my supporters, I will offer them up for trial. However, the will of the people cannot and will not be prevented.'

'In closing, from my hiding place, I implore Thomas Cordery to admit defeat or call a re-election. The power the few might wish to gain from this is not worth the human rights abuses needed to achieve it.'

----Sporadic Gunfire, Explosions heard in Andal.----

In a chilling repeat of last night's unrest, Insurgent violence has broken out in Andal during the night, as rebels belonging to "terror" groups have siezed control of the regional Parliament house and executed people found inside.

[Sound of High-Flying Plane]

In the skies, the Bubnorese Airforce has set up a patrol over the city, searching for pockets of insurgency. As far as we can tell, no-one from the military has broken the no-fire order, yet.

[Sound of trucks]

And it seems that the Andal militia have been called to parliament house to prevent the escape of insurgents who have murdered the governor and his wife. We count five... no six... personnel carriers moving past our position towards ground zero.

As you'll recall from our regular bulletin, today Peter Christian blamed the first minister for the insurgent violence....

Minutes ago a large explosion ripped through the heart of Andal for the second time in as many days. It seems that the point of origin was the Andal Parliament house, which had recently been stormed by insurgent forces claiming to be loyal to Peter Christian and attempting to force a re-election after sunday's disputed election result.

Damage assessment teams have described the situation in Andal as "horrifying" and have said that an area of several city blocks has been completely reduced to rubble. No word on what caused the destruction has been heard at this time, but the government was quick to rule out nuclear weapons, and denies that one of the Airforce bombers was to blame.

----Andal Death Toll "In thousands."----

Thousands are feared dead after last night's rebel attack in Andal. It is unknown what the cause of the explosion was, with theories ranging from a suitcase nuclear device to an oil tanker, to a MOAB deliberately dropped from circling airforce planes, abounding on the internet.

Some things are for certain, though. Several thousand people are injured after two days of violence in a major city, and Bubnor has a serious problem.

First Minister Thomas Cordery spoke to the people this morning at 6am. In his address, he indicated that a massive military response was in the works, and that "those responsible for these despicable acts will be brought to justice." He also responded to claims of the election being unfair as "rubbish," and invited international inspectors to examine the results of the elections as soon as they deemed it safe to do so.

Andal is now in a state of martial law, and Bubnor is currently in a state of emergency.

You have our full support, in the combat of the rebels. These heinous acts cannot be allowed to continue. The only way to pursue peace is to pursue those who threaten it. Godspeed in your endeavors, and we support you fully.

----Andal in uproar as troops move in on rebel positions.----

[sporadic explosions and flashes of light can be seen in background, sound of gunfire echoes]

Woman's voice: 'As you can see, behind me is the city of Andal. The sound of gunfire seems to come from every quarter as the UBA comb the city for rebels.'

[noise of rocket fire]

'Though reports from inside the city are sketchy, it appears as though the UBA is in serious trouble, as helicopters stolen by the insurgents from Andal Naval base have been wreaking havoc inside the city. Just an hour ago, the rebels siezed the UBA forward command post, and executed General Morant. Bombers have been overflying the city non-stop and attacking enemy positions with precision bombs.'

Man's voice breaks in: 'Ma'am, you can't stay here. It's not safe.'

----Reporter killed in violence in Andal, Military effort fails.----

Today's battle in Andal has resulted in defeat for the UBA. The military has pulled out of the Andal city and formed a loose cordon around the town, which is now being bombarded by artillery and sea-launched cruise missiles. The commander of Bubnor's 4th Army, Major-General Tommy "Wild Boar" Friedricks, said that the loss was only "a minor setback," and that losses from the city were not expected to be exceptionally heavy.

Last night, our reporter Gillian Byatt was injured whilst reporting by the explosion in Andal. She died in a Pilsen hospital two hours ago. We extend our condolences to her family.
