This is the tale of the 1st Quantum beam and Converter. This Experiments were performed by Dr. Opi and Dr. Scott Baaka over 120 Years ago.
The old man was standing over the lab table. His hands shaking, his hair grey and his teeth yellow. " Dammit... Scott give me a second! "
He continued to fumble with the connections on the instrument. Because of his old age he just couldn't seem to get it right.
After a few minutes the connections were finally done. " Dr. Opi, I'm bringing the Cooling system online. " Several steam clouds appeared on the sides of the device. The room was slowly filling with a cool mist.
Dr. Opi moved to the control console his steps were slow and broken. "Ok, Let me run diagnostics on this thing, The last thing I” he coughed “is a 300 meter crater in the middle of the city. Let me bring the Quantum Converter online. Hey Scott, are you sure this thing is safe? " He was eyeing the glowing reactor in the middle of the floor, it reflected off the Apple OSX display screens that sat around the room. Each displaying a different data feed.
The device was about 10 feet long and 2 feet thick, and was pointed at a standard piece of armor. Scott begun to punch keys on an OSX workstation.
" Of course I know the Converter is safe! You built it, you just have a ego problem, Get some confidence. Ok Bringing Reactor pressure to 240 GRV. Get the Focuser ready! "
The first converter ever built begun to glow more brightly, it was providing power to the prototype. Though neither one of them could figure out exactly what that power was. That’s why they were doing this test.
The old Doctor begun to hit buttons on the keyboard. "I still can't see what the QC is outputting. It's some kind of energy. But I cant tell what it is exactly. Lets get it charged. So we can fire it. Perhaps seeing the effects on Tritanium will tell us more about it. "
The younger doctor waived a sign of approval, "Alright, Start the Charging process! Lets see if we can get our Converter up to 1000 GRV! "
The old Mans eyes grew very wide, "Sure thing, The Chamber it open now. "
The meters on all the LCD panels begun increase " Ok, 100 Gigajoules! Get Inside the Firing Room! "
The 2 men moved into the firing room and sealed the door. They had no clue what would happen when they hit the " FIRE " button.
They both seemed rather nervous. " Alright, 3,2,1 fire. " The old man slammed on the button as hard as he could.
A light blue beam shot out at light speed towards the 5X5 plate of Tritanium. The cameras caught every last picosecond second.
The beam fizzled out in an instant.
The entire room was filled with smoke. The Doctors ran over to the Tritanium, " Oh My god, it's dust! There’s nothing left but dust, OH MY GOD! " The Old man seemed to go crazy for a few seconds.
The Younger Man pulled out a scanner, " Holy shit, it's still there, but there are no longer any bonds holding it together! "
" What have we done! Get starfleet, Pronto! "
