Port Royal, Roycelandia

His Imperial Majesty Emperor Royce I has today used his Imperial Prerogative powers to pass a new law, entitled the "Employment Equity Act", which introduces sweeping changes to Roycelandia's Employment Laws.

Chief amongst them are:

- Companies now assume some responsibility for their staff's wellbeing and lives. For example, if a company fires a staff member for any reason except theft, intentional sabotage, or assault, on less that one month's notice, the company must pay ALL that person's basic living expenses until such time as they get another job. If that takes 5 years, tough. Shouldn't have fired them in the first place without giving them enough time to get another job.

- It will be illegal for a company to make redundant, downsize, lay off, constructively dismiss, or invent reasons to fire staff if the company has made ANY profit whatsoever.

- Any company making more than $5 million in profits must donate 1% of those profits to an Approved Charity, being: The Red Cross, Salvation Army, City Mission, Local Homeless Shelter, Oxfam, The Smith Family, or other Charity that may be approved by the Government

- A company that has made a profit must not refuse to hire staff in order to increase it's profits.

- No Roycelandian Company may shift itself overseas to avoid taxes or legislative requirements

There are many more, and whilst Big Business has complained bitterly about them, His Majesty has told them to "Shut The Fuck Up and live with it".

The Roycelandian Stock Exchange remained steady on the release of the news, with International Investors interested to see how the Roycelandian Economy reacts...

We applaud Roycelandia's efforts to redress the imbalance of globalisation where corporations take control of their employee's lives and exploit them like they were just another natural resource. We must put the "people" power back into the business ethics.

God bless

Farmina condemns this law, it is blatant socialism.

Businesses will have a reduced incentive to employ people with all these strings attached.

This policy will cause unemployment to sky rocket.

Iskra!: Roiks do something civil, again

The latest round of, "really? It's still not April? And you didn't say Boycelandia, or something?" that washed over the Igovian Soviet Commonwealth ended with a big round of applause from Commonwealth Chief Consul Chivo on behalf of the Beddgelen people. "That fat loudmouth is all right!" said one comrade asked to comment on the Roycelandian Emperor's latest round of legislative reform.

In a possibly related article, the Soviet People's Navy has put in a request with the Roycelandian consulate for permission to have the Cordelia -Beth Gellert's five thousand tonne flagship wing-in-ground-effect vehicle- stop at ports in Roycelandian East Africa and, later, the Roycelandian home islands as part of a, "good will tour and display of big, fast, and loud" as the CCC put it. "An example of what can be built by workers labouring together with respect and fair treatment."

The Roycelandian Government has accepted the Igovian Government's offer... After all, the Imperial Navy is always happy to show off their ships to Foreigners, and it's nice to have visitors...
