The lack of sports in I.I. surprise me. And since I don't want to start it off with soccer or football, I decided to start it off with the Rosian National Sport.

Sword dueling!

Of course there will be stats. But I want it to be a party too. How will I decide the winner? By calculating the stats... in my head!

The rules? None! Any sword you can use. If it's a claymore, use it. Oh, and fill in the application:

The character I have in mind wouldn't be using any abilities or technologies not available to an ordinary person; he just doesn't happen to be human. She has been known to fence without a helmet, which has caused much talk about her in the Ybronnebian fencing community.
Bio: Christina has been fencing in Ybronneb for 3 years, and is the sister of the reknowned Ybronnebian fencer, Kasandral Xerephen, who has won the Ybronnebian National Fencing Tournament 6 years in a row. Christina is 18 years old. Christina is the niece of Lady Larrissa Do'Le'Croxxe, queen of Ybronneb. It is hypothesized in Ybronneb that she may become the best fencer Ybronneb has to offer, excluding Kasandral, who is currently off-planet.
Additional Info: Ybronneb's national sport is fencing, and around 35% of the population fences, or fenced at some time. Other sports, such as football, soccer, or basketball, are much less common, each being played by only around 2% of the population.

Mikhail prefers fencing in a dark red bodysuit. He's about 6'2", weighs 140 pounds, has an enormous fleshy nose, and looks somewhat uncoordinated.

Mikhail is relatively new to the Saxburg fencing circuit and has been the center of a lot of attention, partly because he is in exile from Veragrad, and partly because of his contemptuous dismissal of footwork from his fencing style. Footwork is considered to be one of the most important parts of fencing, but Mikhail's footwork is at best, sloppy, at worst, illegal. He makes up for it, though with his truely blinding speed. His oponants come in confident, lulled by his sloppy footwork, then Bam! Pary-extend-Beat-extend-disengage-disengage-extend-parry-riposte-hit. The second intention is is favorite... extending, allowing his opponant to parry and ripost, then parrying the ripost and extending again before the other fellow has time to retract his arm.

Short Bio:

Born in Kingston, Avadria on November 13th, 1979. At the age of sixteen joined the Royal Navy Youth Corps and was introduced to competitive swordfighting by one of the older officers. He quickly became fascinated with the art and sought to be an officer if only for the sword.

Upon finishing his time in the Youth Corps, he enrolled in the Royal Naval Academy in Kingston, and sought to distinguish himself from the other potential officers. Throughout his time in school, Leo continued to train with a replica officer's sword and eventually became one of the top fencers amongst his peers.

Leo has continued to train and test himself against other officer's in the Navy, as well as train students at the Academy.

Additional Info: Considered to be one of the best swordsmen in the Navy although he doesn't like to admit to it. Almas has faced several opponents who have beat him consistently, although he enjoys the challenge.

Short Bio: Born in Morristown, NJ, he spent his younger years studying sports. By the age of 5, he was addicted to fencing. Since his father was a part-time fencing instructor, he leaned many technics. At age 14, he joined the BSEL troop 112 and spent his time learning many differant merit badges during that time. He also played RP games, mainly Exalted, with his fellow scouts. He got them hooked on fencing as well.

At age 17, he became an Eagle Scout, left the troop, and continued his fencing career. Last year, at age 20, a tournament was held and the winner would in turn qualify for the Dueling Championships held in The Island of Rose. He could not let this oppertunity slip by. And he succeded, beating fellow 112 member Mike Santoro for the victory. At age 21, he is so far the youngest person in the championships.

Additional Info: His style is simply to throw the enemy off balance by being extremely fast and agressive. He has great physical strength too, allowing him to match fencing foils in speed with his weapon.

Senator Miller is a 10 year veteran of the Royal Marines. After his discharge he served as a Special Forces Drill Sergeant at the elite Eeasen Training Camp. He entered politics in his early forties and quicky rose to prominence within the right-wing Nationalist Union Party. He is a gifted orator who prides himself on firery speeches. He once made a fellow Royal Senator cry...on the floor of the Senate...and the Senator was a man.

He is a traditional Southern Hamptonian "gentleman"- if you damage his honor he will demand satisfaction. He always carries around a dueling glove just in case he has to go avenging.

Quarke was not, at first sight, the most likely entrant to the competition. He is roughly 70 years old and walks with a stick, and is more at home on the floor of the Speakers' Hall than in a gym. However, this stick contains 38 inches of sharpened steel, and the end is filled with lead. The empty "scabbard" portion is wielded in his left hand, leaving the sword in his right (he is right-handed). While he obviously cannot move around very fast, the cage of steel he creates with his parries shows that his skill is second to none, and the power of his attacks was shown by what was left of the perpetrator of the last attempt on his life.

She is an orphan, raised in the Rasnall School which uses martial arts and combat training as a major part of its ciriculum. As such she tends to practice both against her liege and against the Royal Guard members. Three time winner of the Lords College Cup she is well prepared to take on the world's best.

Will tend to go for a kill shot on an opponent and take a hit rather than wait. Also, trained primarily for using a sword and dagger combination and less with a single blade. Like most Alconians of her training, they will wait for the enemy to attack and use it against them rather than directly attack their opponent. Also, Victoria is almost two inches taller and ten pounds heavier than Kathrine and decidely stronger physically.

Bastard-Sword-

A bastard sword is commonly thought a generic name for a large number of straight-bladed European swords used with either one or two hands. In actuality, a Bastard Sword was a specific type of weapon. A compromise between the lightness of the one-handed Longsword, and the two handed Greatsword (Or two-handed sword, a generic name sometimes assigned to it) a Bastard Sword is, in all practicality, a modified longsword. It is made to be versatile in that a strong person is capable of wielding it in one hand, and it's weight makes it difficult to guard against. It was originally a spinoff of the Greatsword however, and most are actually made more for thier two-handed capabilities.

A Bastard Sword's weight is balanced correctly so that it is not only powerfull enough to dismount a riding opponent, but it is also capable of the finesse and speed sometimes needed on the battlefield. At the same time, it's length and weight make it almost as effective as a greatsword for breaking up pike formations (which was the original purpose of the Great or Two-Handed sword)

Also known as hand and a half swords, they appeared in virtually all West European countries after 1000 AD and remained in use well into the 1500s. It earned it's name from the fact that it is a "Bastard" version of longswords and Greatswords. A Bastard Sword has a longer blade and hilt than a normal longsword, and is also somewhat heavier. It is worth noting that a Bastard Sword's blade is not much thicker or wider than the hilt, unlike a Great/Two-Handed sword, which are typically defined by thier thick blades.

A "hand and a half sword" is a designation for european blades which fall in between a medium blade and a great blade...(The are also refered to in some cases as a "Bastard Sword".

If I said an sword with a progoned basket hilt and an Oakenshaft Type XVIa blade would that mean anything to you?

The blades taper quite acutely and are of a length (38-42").
It is in terms of cross-section, though, that this combination of cutting and thrusting abilities can best be seen. The upper part of the blade hearkens back to older cutting swords (like Types X-XIV) being "broad, of a strong section with a well-marked, deep fuller which extends a little over half the length of the blade." The lower part of the blade is "of stiff, solid four-sided 'flattened diamond' section" giving it qualities well-suited to the thrust. Oakeshott describes this combination by saying, "While the point is acute enough even to penetrate plate armour, there was enough width and edge at the 'center of percussion' or 'optimal striking point' to enable the blade to strike a very powerful shearing blow.

Translation: A sword designed for thrusting as well as cutting. Typically can be weilded two or one handed depending on what one was doing.

The third son of a minor nobleman, Curnic was fascinated by the bladedancers he saw in the Emperor's Palace from early childhood. His father hired one to teach him the art, and by the age of 15 he was far more skilled than his trainer. Additional information:
Curnic is, more than anything else, a performer. The most common form of Ghouti bladedancing is planned out carefully beforehand, and enacted in time to music; the artists are not actually trying to strike each other, though accidents sometimes happen. Competitions where bladedancers test their skill in more traditional duels are not rare, but they are certainly less common. Curnic fights to win, of course, but he is also trying to put on a show, and this affects his style. He generally uses a very defensive style, drawing out the match until his opponent tires before moving in for the point. He is highly payed for his performances, and has plenty of time to do what he chooses. Since his greatest career skill is also his favorite activity, he spends most of that time practicing. He can keep defending himself against an opponent for an incredibly long time before tiring, and it is very rare for anyone to get past his guard. When there is no music available, he often taps out a fairly complex beat with his shoes, which have metal plates on the toe and heel for that purpose. He might not take an easy opening early in a match, wanting a more dramatic ending.

In classical fencing terminoliogy, a parry is blocking an opponant's attack, a riposte is a counter attack. Speed generally refers to how fast your hand-movements are. Physically avoiding an attack (evasion) would be footwork. IN any case, I have some changes to make now =) And are we only allowed 5 in each category?

Son of Emperor Helldawg V, it is said he had killed at least 20 people by the age of three, and has taken the heads of over fifteen hundred people (now aged 29). So far, he's spent his whole life training to be a Doom Legionary, meaning he's had little contact with his family while enduring unspeakable tortures and trials in the scorching hot deserts of Doomingsland, and the frozen waste land of Alberia (a Generian province). His favorite passtimes include hunting convicts in the desert, or killing genetic horrors. He is cold and utterly emotionless, save his sick sense of humor, yet is strikingly good looking, and (unsuprisingly) very muscle bound. As of now, he has command of the IV Legion (Infantry), and is very well liked by his men.

-During legionary training, he supposedly decapitated a rival and mounted his head on the barracks door. This sort of thing isn't uncommon, and the rival was seen as a weakling after, but the unusual thing was that Maximus took the time to torture the rival before killing him.

-He was the only survivor from his expedition (one year in the wilderness with no outside contact) to Alberia, which requires aspiring Legionaries to bring back the heads of at least 100 Muslim nomads. Ironically, he'd killed over two hundred people, including several of his own men.

Looks: An average looking man by all accounts, Cunnedda stands 1.85 meters tall, and weighs in at 110 kilograms. He has shoulder-length brown hair and a full beard that is badger-streaked with grey. A scar run from his right cheekbone to his jaw, the reminder of a blade that slipped past his guard.

Short Bio: The Crown Prince of the Free Lands of Kanalandr, Cunnedda was trained by the best swordsmen those lands have to offer. The laws of Kanalandr dictate that all men and women may bear arms, but only those serving during war may bear firearms. When coupled with the duelling laws enacted by King Trysar, it is no wonder that the use of the sword has experienced a rennaissance in the Free Lands, and Cunnedda has made it a point of pride that he is at its forefront.

Looks: A slight looking female, with pale blonde hair that falls halfway down her back. She's tough and wiry, but not especially strong- for this reason, she prefers to evade and counter-attack, as opposed to straight out offence.

Short Bio: She was born, she's lived, and she fights. It's not her life, just her mindset- she had it kind of rough on the streets before she made her way to Amarenthe, and she strongly believes that women should know how to defend themselves. So, being a sensible young lady, she took up sharp, pointy objects as a defence.

Additional Info: Uhhhm... she tends to wear tight breeches and a well-fitting tunic-type shirt. She looks like she walked out of a fantasy book, actually.

After the invasion, Sword Man was appointed the leader of the 8 Robot Generals(The heads of each division of the Robotopolis Navy).While he may look like a merciless warrior, Sword Man is actually the very opposite of it. He perceives combat as a test of skill and can usually be found practicing his battle moves to prepare for future battles

--Wily designed Sword Man to be able to function independently of his legs. Sword Man's absence of a torso allows him to seperate from his lower body and hover for a short period of time. However, this only lasts for at most a minute, so Sword Man mainly uses this to "hop" over tough slashes and such.

--His style is to stay on the defensive for most of the match, blocking and evading, waiting for an opening in his opponent's attack in which he can lunge forward and deliver a powerful forward slash.

Preferred Basic Attack: Slower paced relentless hacking, with spurts of fuy in which she'll use her weapon in every concievable way, that wears down opponants.

Looks: Zig is an attractive female of medium height, with long black hair, black eyes, pale skin, and barbed fangs. She's quite a lot stronger than her light frame looks, able to wield the traditional one-handed axe as if it was merely a fly-swatter. In combat she wears some less contstricting pieces of leather as a thin layer of protection, as well as an old style helmet (think viking helmet, the real kind, not the movie kind). She normally wears combat boots, and all her combat clothing is black.

Short Bio: Born in Istengrad to the large Batory clan of Moroii, she went to the University of Callisdrun in Drun, where she was an acclaimed member of the melee tourny team. It was there that she honed her skills, being quite feared on the field. She is said to like hiking in Callisdrun's many forests and peanut butter sandwiches. She is a devout pagan.

Additional Info: Though normally a shield is held in a melee fighter's other hand in Callisdrun, Zig took to often using a parrying sword while in college, and will be using one for this event. Her style is not graceful, but effective, and she is often described by fans as unorthodox, by adversaries as "dirty" (there is still disagreement over whether it was legal for her to bite someone on the other team in the annual UC vs. BU match). She will sometimes use the parrying sword as an offensive weapon, catching her opponents off guard after distracting them with the axe.

Short Bio: Ministro Principal Chavez was born before the FPCB's emergence as a sovereign estate over the Portugeuse. He was the son of a rich Portugeuse general whom had defected during the uprising. Chavez followed in the footsteps and joined the Spartakist communists that had already taking the nation of Brasil from the Portugeuse. He quickly became in control of the military arm of the Spartakist PCPB after his father had passed away. With his great military power, he took control of the PCPB after the former chairman had been assassinated by the seccessionists in the French north. With his new control of both the military and the political party, he crushed the secessionist forces. While his fame in the FPCB is not as legendary as a figure such as Juan Osvaldo Hernadez, the current president, he has ascended to the highest legislative position of Ministro Principal, making him in supervision over all of the Worker's Councils over the collectives and the Free Assembly of the Party, the equivalent of a Parliament in the FPCB. He has his eye of the presidency, and has long been a political opponent of Hernadez, advocating strong militarist and nationalist policies to solidfy the nation base, and increasing the already swelled national defence funds to expand the Federal Guard. His popularity has soared with the recent threats to the FPCB. He, however, believes participation in this competition will allow him to take a break from his politics, and fufill his life-long devotion to the discipline of fencing.

Additional Info: Married to the Director of Foreign Affairs in the FPCB, whom will be attending as a dignitary.

Chavez practices traditional sabre fencing, adhering to the aristocratic Portuguese disciplines.

The flag in the picture is not the FPCB one, but the Portugeuse colonial flag. It is a tradition for the Comandantes of the Federal Guard who win a decisive battle to take the flag of the enemy as a trophy. This flag is over two hundred years old, and is well kept as a badge of honor by Chavez. Other campaigns the Comandante took part in was Greater Colombia's invasion from the north, a covert mission in Uruguay that crippled Argentine forces ready to cross into Brazil, a short operation in Burruti that save thousnds of lives from a young movement that was looking to parallel Rwanda, which also was a peacekeeping operation participated in by the FPCB (long a member of the UN, though recently, they have been having second thoughts) whom openly admits their incompetence there, and a long naval war over the fate of French Guyana (against the Napoleonic Imperial French forces years ago).

After looking over it, I find that I am unable, considering we are in a state of war and we have no space program (yet.) I cannot see any role the FPCB could fill in the rp. Sorry about that.
