Rotovian National News

"Just minutes ago the His Eminency, President Dionysus Bacchus was shot and killed by an unknown gunman. The President had just returned to Attica City after a conference with Rotovia's allies to restore democracy to his people.

As we head into this hour of mourning let us not forget the message of peace and of hope that he lead the nation with. Let us use the peace and freedom he stould for as we face the imperialism of Lord Powers, let us not in this hour forget his memory to save our freedom.

President Bacchus, you will be remembered! Hail!"

---Official Farminan Statement---

The execution of any national leader is an inherently criminal act.

Farmina holds Senator Powers directly responsible for this act and shall seek redemption on the part of the Rotovian people.

The Farminan military is already on its highest alert and is ready to deploy its forces immediately.

We shall not be stopped; the Rotovian people scream for aid, we have already sent weapons, we shall now send our full force.

Official Statement from the Office of the Vicereine

There are not words available to express the grief and sadness that the Hamptonian people feel at this time. President Bacchuss was a truly great man, a statesman who rose above his station to affect the lives of people across the globe.

The Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire will dedicate itself, in the memory of Dionysus Bacchus, to the freedom and liberation of Rotovia and her people. In the name of the Grand Duke I shall state now that we will find and punish those associated with the assassination of President Bacchuss.

We will not forgive, we will not forget.

On behalf of everyone in the Greater Empire, we offer our most sincere condolences to President Bacchus' family. A special service will be held across the Greater Empire, and in all Maciskan Orthodox Churches in remembrance of the life of this great man.

May his soul find rest, knowing that his friends and allies will not cease in their efforts until his country has been freed and legitimate government restored.

---Farminan News Service---

In the past hour, the pace has intensified.

A massive Farminan fleet is headed for Rotovia, the reverse of the situation in the War of Holy Waters also known as the Farmina-Rotovia war.

The High Priest has issued his final ultimatum to the Powers administration and the Elected Councils have passed a Declaration of War on Rotovia, which comes into effect on the rejection of the ultimatum.

The terms of the ultimatum are clear, Powers must surrender control of Rotovia to a temporary administration.

Current estimates are that two million Farminans are moving on Rotovia, not including logistical support.

The High Priest had this to say, “It seems that war is inevitable. The Rotovian people revolt against this murderous, ungodly regime and it is up to our noble people to right this heinous wrong in God’s name. If we do not fight…

"Those stories and more later.

Less than an hour ago Lady Justina Valdir announced that the ultimatum issued to the Powers regime had expired without reply.

In accordance with the terms of the ultimatum, sections of His Imperial Majesty's Armed Forces, the elite "Blue Sky" division, are currently en route to Rotovia to secure the safety of those of His Imperial Majesty's Subjects.

In her briefing to the press, Lady Valdir announced that any attempt by Powers to hinder the operation would be considered an attack upon the Greater Macisikani Empire, and that "we shall respond accordingly".

Sources inside Parliament have indicated that such a response includes military action against Powers directly.

This news comes on the heels of President Bacchus' death in Attica City, a terrible crime attributed to Powers by many people.

President Elayeth Wren stood in front of a podium, the symbol of The Imperial Star Empire of Veskaland, a phoenix, was behind him on a curtain.
“It is a sad time when a country has been taken over from the inside. It makes a day even sadder that the man who ruled the country is murdered, in a cold hearted and callous manner.
Over the recent weeks Rotovia and her allies have been discussing the current situation within her walls, our ambassador to Rotovia handed a note to Dr Powers demanding his withdrawal from his position of Rotovian power, if this is not done in 12 hours a state of war would exist between us. I regretfully inform the people of Veskaland and of the world, we are now at war with Occupied Rotovia.

We are, of course, sharing your grief at the loss of your leader. But this only serves to prove that freedom shouldn't be given to anyone. The common people does not know how to govern their own life, and freedom will only end up hurting the nation, as shown by this recent tragedy. The president was killed by his own foolish policy of freedom and human rights. In a controlled environmnet such as ours, a thing like this would have never happened.

Major news of the hour; Rotovia's closest allies have begun sending their condelences, rumours of impending war are rampent in Athens and Lady Nicoletta Bacchuss has assumed temporary control of the nation.

But first, we urge some veiwers that the images you are about to see may be disturbing and reccomend that if you are easily effected by such image that veiwing be discontinued."

The feed cuts accross to inside the Athens International Airport where a smiling President Bacchuss shakes hands with the crowd.

He raise both hands in the air and waves them, lowering them only to ebrace Lady Bacchuss before heading to the official delegation infront of him.

Turning back towards the crowd he small, taking a Rotovian flag from a supporter and waving it ferverently as the crowd begins chanting "The President is Home!".

"My people..." He begins "I will not leave you whilst there is work to be done, I have returned as your servent! And am glad to report our allies will not abdone us in our hour of need! Victory belongs to the just! We shall take back what is ou...."

Three louds bangs are heard as a flash of light appears infront of the President's chest. His head lurches back and blood leaks accross the floor. Without skipping a beat the assailent is riddled with bullets from RIO Agents as aide after aide dives towards the President.

"The President is dead!" is screamed by an unknown woman.

At 10:00 PM, Hamptonian Central Time, advanced units of the Royal Marines and Royal Army left Hamptonian Airspace. They are currently enroute to Rotovia. Behind those brave few advance units, hundreds of thousands are gathering. Two Fleets of the Royal Navy and four Air Wings of the RAF have also moblized to counter the current threat to our north. Within 3 hours, 100,000 Airborne and Air Assault soldiers will be in Rotovia fighting for the freedom of all Rotovians. Within four days nearly one million men and women in uniform will be involved in Operation Northern Guardian.

In my capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Armed Forces of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire I issue the following statement:
Unless Mr. Powers and his government resigns within the next 60 minutes and legitimate government is restored to Rotovia, the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire will use any and all resources within its arsenal to bring about such change.

It will be the policy of this Government to fight in the memory of President Bacchuss. We will not rest until a government responsible and responsive to the Citizens of Rotovia is reestablished.

We come to Rotovia not as invaders but as friends. We will not target nor will we tolerate the targeting of civilian population centers and civilian property. Any military forces, no matter their affiliation, found to be targeting civilians will be marked for destruction. This policy is concrete, we will not waiver.

The need for action has been thrust upon us. It was the desire of the Grand Duke to settle this matter peacefully, without bloodshed. Unfortunately, it has now been proven that Mr. Powers and his band of thugs are incapable of civility. The only language they understand is force and that's a language that we can speak.

"How goes the invasion?"
The other made a face.
"This is what we get for being far, far, away. It's going to be weeks before we bloody well arrive in force. What we can do is supply the others, and protect their backs. Hardly glamorous, but we can do something."
"At least we're not going to sit around with our thumbs up our arses."
"Nnn-o,no. Now, if you'll excuse me Anton, I must go and update the King. I'm sorry."
"What for?"
"She's back. She isn't happy. And she's looking for you."
The Acting First Minister used a word totally inappropriate for his position.

"She" in that tone could only mean one person; the First Minister was off maternity leave. And going on past experience for holidays, she'd be bursting at the seams to get back into work. Probably by starting with tearing strips off whoever managed to get her displeasure.

OOC:
Geography

Rotovia closely resembles Greece, it is divided into four state. Begining north-west with Deopolis, north-east is Theopolis, south-east is Attapolis (Attica), and south-west is Spartapolis.

Most ships will arrive towards the coast of Spartapolis because it is the most exposed. The northen end of Rotovia cannot be reached as it is landlocked by Hamptonshire, to the east lies Darkmarine (sealing off sea access). To the south Rotovia is made up of a large archipelego with numerous radar and military bases. As well as the large island of Crete.

To access the coast of Spartapolis one must travel from the north as The United Korean Nations lie to the west. This passage is know as the Sea of Rotovia (name coined by UKN in our last RP).

Whichever way you enter, it is important to remember it is unlikely any sea vessel could just sail into Rotovia without hinderence. The natural landscapem though surrounded by sea, makes it difficult. Not to mention the fact the majority of Rotovia's military is a massive Naval force.

Please take this into consideration.

Also, the Capital of Attica City is located in Attapolis around 6/8ths down the eastern coast. To reach it you must either cross the enter of mainland Rotovia, or sail around the southern-most tip of Rotovia and up the coast. Bare in mind Rotovia's third largest naval base is located there and the coast leading up to Attica is very heavily patrolled.

The waters within two kilomaters of Attica City however, are un-patrolled. This is because the Rotovian Constitution prevents military forces from entering the city limits or territory.

-----------------------------------
Military

The air force and navy are heavily loyal to President Bacchuss, with the exception of certain fleets which have not yet announced their defection from the Powers government. However, the Army is much more divided in their loyalty.

------------------------------------

Government

Affectively, Lady Nicoletta Bacchuss is in charge, as per the President's instructions for such a situation. However it is important to note Rotovia has no succession for a living President. As long as he is alive, techinically(brain dead is recognised as living for this purpose), he remains President.

------------------------------------------------

Spelling

There is no right spelling for Bacchuss, Bacchus, Bachuss, Baccheus, whatever.

--------------------------------------------------

Misc

Rotovia is divided into three sections. The Allied States of Rotovia, which is basically the mainland and a few islands. The Constitutional Republic of Rotovia, The Allied States and their colonies; this is what is commonly refered to as Rotovia; this concept was founded upon the original Republic created by Emperor Deitus. The Commonwealth of Rotovia, very rarely RPed; this is the outer territories; if in confusion think of Rotovia as England and the Commonwealth like the British Commonwealth.

As Crown Prince, President Bacchuss rules over the Commonwealth as an absolute Monarch. When he marries he will be made Emperor of these territories as well as the Subordinate States (ie Crete, Letican, Northen Thebes, Prosse, Prespolis, etc)

Admiral Rosen was pissed off. Not only did he have to work with the man he described as "that disgusting slavic bastard" from TF-02, Rear Admiral Voyevsky, he was a long way from home, and it seemed like he was on the wrong fragging part of the country to attack his enemies. But really, all Rosen wanted to do was retire, grab the $200,000 a year superannuation and go and build a big bloody house somewhere where he'd never have to see the sea again.

Still, a job was a job, and he barked terse, one-word orders to his lackeys around the bridge, and a subtle smile played across his face as some F-35JSF squadrons on his command lifted off on patrol. Yes, this was the proper way to do Naval operations. He'd keep his A-17 Warhawks on board until the last minute to provide the invasion forces with an unpleasant surprise. It was only proper to flex one's muscles enough, but not too much at the start. Something that bloody Slav, 100m below him in his hidden command, wouldn't appreciate.

100m Below, aboard the SSGN Silent Wolf
Pitr's porphyria was acting up again. Picture dandruff, but all over. He was also pretty pissed off, though he had to admit that his new submarine was rather cool. As was commanding a whole carrier - man, those surface pukes must have wet themselves when they knew they were being commanded by a submariner.

Despite the fact that the entire surface navy hated him, and he was regarded only as a brutal necessity by High Command, Pitr's talent was recognised worldwide. He wasn't just a good submarine commander.

No, he was a superb one.

A smile showed across his peeling, cracked lips as he placed his submarines in a defensive perimeter around his carrier.

The hunting was sure to be good for his forces, and besides, he had to atone for that nasty business over at Dostanuot Loj, didn't he?

An entire wing of the hospital had been shut down to house the President. In place of the stock steel beds and white mattresses of the St Joan Anglicus Hospital was the three hundred year old oak masterpeice from the Palace of Athens.

At the President's bedside was Vice President Aptiva, Lady Nicoletta Bacchus, Father Roger Johanson, Princess Athena Bacchua and Sir Ronald Thebes.

Outside the window the sound of gunfire could be heard over the countertones of Mozart rining from the stereo positioned in corner of the room.

A nurse leaned in and padded his forehead with a moist clothe as he rose slightly from the matress.

"Mr President?"

The words seemed to flow so naturally from the lips of all those present.

"Athena..."

His words were slowed and gentle. Lacking the power and stately grandeur with which he normally spoke.

"...you know I hate Mozart..."

"It's not always about you" She quibbed back.

"Convene a war council..."

"You have got to be kidding...." Came the voice of Lady Bacchuss.

"I'm still President, consider it an order..."

"Yes Your Eminency"

-----------------------------

Some hours later outside St Joan's reporters busily spoke into microphones and the crowd began to build in anticipation of the rumoured arrival of the President.

Out of the doors rushed Presdential Guard in traditional black robes. Followed closel my military officers who formed a four layer barrier between the crowd and the exiting enterage.

Finally, Vice President Aptiva exits pushing a wheelchair.

As the President clowly rises, the crowd grows silent. He indicates for a single microphone to be lowered towards him and clears his throat.

"We shall rise in this time, for it is in this time that we are tested. We shall rise in this time, for it in this time that we are oppressed. We shall rise in this time, for it is in this time that we shall acheive victory. We are Rotovian and we are blessed".

------------------------

Outside Athens the Army was massing a force to march on the Powers holding in western Rotovia.

The perfect lines of green tents stretched out for miles in every direction and the chants of ancient war songs in languages long since lost could be heard echoing even into Athens itself.

General Whatts stould by the roadside, barking orders into a radio and awaiting the order to come from the President himself.

The order to end a war that had been brewing since the founding of the Republic.

---------------------

In the waters of Rotovia naval vessels coyly darted to from the approaching the Farminan fleet, unsure of their orders to proceed.

Though overhead, Hamptonshire and Macisikania planes were welcome with praise by the Rotovian Air Corps.

The allies were filing in, the nation was preparing for war and the loan voice of the President would command the greatest the battle of all time to be waged and the future of both the Republic and the Empire to be forged.

Subject: Deployment, Allied Command.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Major-General Hans Gerad, in command of the Advance Imperial Forces, our spearhead.

I wish to inform you, sirs, of the imminent arrival of the first elements of the AIF in Rotovian territorial waters, to request permission to enter, and to request a clarification of the overall structure of command; at present we are assuming that the C-in-C of Rotovian Government forces is also C-in-C of the Allied forces, however neither the government in Arn-Maciska nor this force has had this confirmed.

On that note, we request instructions for the deployment of the AIF, keeping in mind that our primary purpose is to prepare for General Blackthorn's main force.

Respectfully yours,

Major-General Hans Gerad.

OOC: I thought Bacchus was brain dead.

IC: "All is in position," said the Admiral.

"Thankyou, Lord Admiral," replied Field Marshal Jefferson.

"Will we meet any naval resistance?" asked Simpson.

"Not anything the Rotovians can’t deal with,” replied the Admiral.

“Admiral, get the jets in the air, I want a beachhead, 10 k along and 5 k in that is completely devoid of features. Once everything is safe bring the ships as close to shore as possible to blast the remaining targets.”

Jefferson picked up a red texture and drew a box on the beach. “This is our beachhead, right here, right near Pereva. Since they have to defend the entire coast, we should be able to smash them when landing. After that they know where we are. We shall have to move quickly, every minute gives them more chance to consolidate. Simpson, prepare the landing parties.”

“Immediately sir,” said Major Simpson, then both he and the admiral went about their duties.

To Dr Sarah Hours,

President Bacchuss, under our consideration is not fit to rule Rotovia in trying times. As the head of the Farminan military, I feel it is appropriate should temporarily lead Rotovia into the foreseeable future. Farmina will fully support your efforts.

We would also invite onto the Farminan flagship, the FSS Leviticus. It would be our hope that the person leading Rotovia, should land with the troops on freshly claimed Rotovian soil. Obviously we wouldn’t land you until the landing is complete, and everything secure. Your presence alone, however will be of great propaganda value.

The Macisikani forces en route to Rotovian soveriegn waters are clear to enter said waters as a friendly nation, with full auhority to engage forces there in.

His Eminency, Presiden Bacchuss is the Supreme Commander-in-Cheif. However, with his blessing the military is being co-ordinated by Fleet Admiral Helena Bacchuss.

Allied Command will be based in Attica City and though we request Rotovian military be allowed the final say, obviously control of your forces shall remain vested in your commanders.

The jets flew overhead, looking for targets in the landing zone.

Lt Walker sat quietly in the landing vessel, waiting. The high walled boat moved foward as the propellor churned the water.

He then broke his silence, "Men, today we avenge Farminan glory. One and a half years ago Rotovia tried to occupy Farmina. Now it us how shall land on their shores. Powers will die, Bacchuss will rule a broken nation if any at all."

"You bring glory to your family and your God by being in the first wave. Remember no one will die, they shall simply be blessed in heaven."

He paused and said silently to himself and God, "God protect these young lives."

Due to military action on other fronts, Farmina will be withdrawing from this war. All ships and troops will return to Farmina immediately for redeployment.

"Call the troops back," said Jefferson, "We won't storm the beach after all."

The jets returned and the land vessels were stored.

After all that the fleet came home.
