The StG. 85 is locally produced version of the russian developed AEK-971 rifle that has been modified with several features to simplify its use, and make it more flexible via state manufactured aftermarket accessories.
The Stg. 85 like its predecessor is gas driven, 'balanced' action with rotating bolt locked barrel. 'Balanced' mean that the gas drive has two gas chambers and two gas pistons. The first gas piston is linked via a gas rod to the bolt carrier and moves as usual. The second gas piston is linked to the balancing weight and moves in the opposite (to main gas piston) direction.
This design eliminates 3 of 4 total impulses of the movement that affect rifle during automatic fire. first impulse is received when bullet moves along the barrel - this is the recoil itself. The second impulse rifle received when heavy bolt carrier/bolt group moves along the receiver back and forth. The third impulse is received when bolt carrier/bolt group stops in the rear position and fourth - when this group stops in forward position after new cartridge is chambered.
Synchronous and opposite movement of the balancing weight eliminates all except the recoil impulse, so rifle becomes far more stable during automatic fire. The gain of accuracy in full auto is whole 15-20%, when compared to AK-74 asault rifle in the same caliber. The newly adopted by Russian army AN-94 assault rifle has slight edge over the Stg. 85/AEK-971 only in short burst (2 rounds only) mode. In medium or long burst fire mode (3-5 or 7-10 rounds per burst) while fireing in fully-automatic mode the Stg. 85 wins hands down, being also 0.5kg lighter than AN-94, simplier and cheaper to manufacture.
This peticular model of the StG. 85 has a fixed synthetic polymer buttstock (synthetic was choosen to protect shooter in extremely hot or cold conditions), a textured Polymer foregrip with an integrated m1913 spec rail. The recielver is milled from a solid billet of Aluminum, with a full length M1913 rail along the top spine. Along with these features the stadard highly effective Muzzle brake has also been widened to 22mm and ridged at its base to accept international standard rifle grenades. A State manufactured 'tigers eye' red-dot holo-sight comes standard wiuht the package.
The fire selector is of 'pull-through' type which allows 2 modes of fire; semi-auto and full auto. At some 800-900 rounds per second it's rather easy to manually control the length of the bursts, as this weapon is much more stable during fire than most conventionally designed rifles.
Caliber: 5.45x39mm
Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt, balanced
Overall length: 965 mm
Barrel length: 430 mm
Weight: 3.3 kg without magazine
RoF: 800-900 rpm
Magazine capacity: 30 rds, all standard AK-74 magazines will cycle properly.
Normally our Expeditionary Force use the 6.5x39mm version of this rifle but, this batch was specifically designated for milita use and storage in local armories, and was therefore chambered in the more common 5.45x39mm of the AK-74/AKS/AKSU round for ease of logistics. Due to a paperwork glitch combined with a recent increase in manufacturing capabilities we have nowhere to store these rifles and therefore must sell them in an attempt to relieve the storage problem, and make up some of the money lost during their manufacture...
Any decent offer for all or sections of a minimum of 5,000 rifles will be entertained.
