Today, in a startling announcement from the Emperor, the majority religious belief inside the Empire of Layarteb is that of Paganism, with Luna, the moon goddes, being the central deity. The Empire of Layarteb can be traced back to the early 6th century. Ancient Celtic tribes that managed to sail across the Atlantic settled in modern day New York in the early 500s. The six tribes eventually came under the control of one tribe, the Tnemrotians in the early 700s and it wasn't until 1157 that the Layartebian tribe officially gained power. They have controlled the country since.
These ancient Celtic tribes were much like their original counterparts except unlike the Celts, they saw the moon as female. Their chief deity was Luna, the moon goddess. When Catholic missionaries came to the country, they were often slaughtered.
In the 1850s, Catholicism gained the largest support with some 52% of the country belonging to the Roman Catholic faith. Since the 1950s, that has been in decline. Most recently, a resurgence in the ancient faith has led to renewed efforts by the Catholic church to stomp out ancient texts.
However, perserved by the government in museums, these texts have been saved. The government, avoutly agnostic, has announced that the ancient Pagan belief has now grown to over 40%, pushing Catholicism down to just over 17.5%.
More to come...

The Sultan would like to congradulate the Layertebian government. While not exactly "pagan" in the traditional sense, we do have a large portion (1/3 ish) of our country that worships the Elephanti Tribal religion, the religion of the noblility and the Sultan.

Disheartening news. It's never good to hear about the decline of the Catholic faith, especially when it's Irish Catholics like ourselves. Hopefully you'll return to the light.

The Emperor sat in his office, quiet and tired. "Pagan has resurfaced. Very well." He looked over at the calendar. "I suppose one of these days I'm going to have to do something about this agnosticism." He smirked. Then he buzzed his secretary. "Do you think you can find out some more information on what these Pagans believe?"
"Yes sir." The secretary began working immediately.
Meanwhile, across town, at the Layartebian News Network HQ, the main show going on was discussing what was going on. The main thing of discussion was why. The answer was simple, it was most likely a resurgence of the classics. Was a renaissance blooming in Layarteb?
Raijin Dekker, Commander of all Krioval, reflected on the document placed before him. For the first time in recent memory, a country dominated by Christianity had gained enough followers in polytheism for it to become the majority faith. Apparently we're not the only ones, he thought, a smile slowly forming. May the Gods' blessings shine upon us eternally, Krioval!

Raijin wrote a letter and handed it to a secretary.
To the Grand and Benevolent Emperor of Layerteb,
I find myself intrigued by the resurgence of your nation's faith. Would it be possible for me to arrange a visit, either as an admirer of history and theology or as a representative of the government of Krioval? I anxiously await your reply.
Raijin Dekker, Commander of Krioval

I, as representative of the great council of the temple to the Annunaki, Iggigi, and all other gods and goddesses, formally congratulate you, Layarteb, to the bossom of a pagan or polytheistic population.
I'm sure my nations government would be much interested in relations with your fine nation, as I know my fellow preists and prestesses would be more then happy to correspond with our counterparts in your nation.
May your nation prosper in peace and health for eternity.

Indeed thank you greatly.
OOC: What the heck should I call my religion lol! It's polytheistic, pagan, and the central deity is Luna, the moon goddess. Any idea? Lunism? LOL!

OOC: Being the boring sort, I simply called mine "Traditional Polytheism", though it probably sounds better in the original Kriovalian! :p
