Current Administrational Policies

Current Party in Government: Democratic Communist Party

Party Policies

At his inauguration, President Jacob Somersby outlined his major policies as put forward in the Communist Party Manifesto to the nation, where he promised to show the world that “Democratic Communism is possible.” Being interrupted for applause 42 times by the attending Congresspersons and Senators, Jacob stood before the nation and brought his policies into focus:

Economic Policies
The President unveiled his Five Year Plan for the national economy. Recognising the responsibilities of a Communist government to ensure social welfare and equality for each and every citizen, whilst also learning from the inefficiencies that occur with centralised planning, President Somersby announced the transition to a “Nationalised Market” system. All industries would be nationalised and a process of merging smaller businesses and operations to form single large market suppliers over the first two years of his tour of office, allowing the State Corporations to take advantage of the Economies of Scale that occur in large monopolistic operations. This method allows for lower prices in the market place, thus increasing the proportionate income and wealth of the populace and assisting to increase their material living standards. The State Corporations, being managed by the Ministry for the Economy, would be run to make break-even, or ‘normal’ profits, thus creating a state of both productive and allocative efficiency in the economy as the price to the consumer is equal to the marginal cost of production, and productive costs are lower than otherwise possible due to aforementioned Economies of Scale, thus maximising efficient use of scarce resources and maximising social welfare. Any profits that are made by the State Corporations for unexpected reasons such as a sudden change in market prices would be taken by the government and be redistributed into the flow of income.

Regarding wages and salaries, President Somersby announced that the government would create ‘staggered’ levels at which different occupations earn different incomes according to their calculated value in the economy in terms of productivity and demand. This would result in a reduction in the disproportionate incomes between occupations by not allowing market forces to result in a person earning J$4 billion unless they are actually worth that amount, whilst maintaining the incentive to workers of increasing their income levels through retraining to higher-skilled occupations. Levels of income would be adjusted by the government to encourage an uptake of certain occupations as demand for that particular group increased. The President also announced compulsory retraining for all workers at the expense of the state once a year to help ensure that the workforce is trained in the latest methods of their industry. The President also announced a 70 percent income tax on all persons earning over J$100,000.

International Trade was also on the agenda. President Somersby announced that international trade would be able to take place; however there would be cases where ‘Variable Profit Tariffs’ were placed. This would occur when the imports were being manufactured and sold at a profit by the foreign company. The VPT would be placed on the good equal to the profit that the corporation would be gaining on the good they are importing to Jacksonesia. This maintains the allocative efficiency of consumers because both the domestic and foreign firm would be selling at the true marginal cost of production, and would also encourage domestic industry over foreign firms due to price differences.

Social Policies
The President announced to continue ensuring equality of all people in the nation. Somersby announced the legalisation of homosexual marriage, allowing gay couples the exact same legal rights as heterosexuals.

President Somersby also announced that it would be made illegal to discriminate in employment with regards to any characteristic of age, race, gender, ethnic group, religion or disability. President Somersby conceded however that these guidelines would be subject to interpretation in certain occupations where a particular characteristic, such as a disability, would endanger or inhibit the person’s ability to carry out that occupation. Any such circumstances would be subject to an Employment Committee that would examine and conclude whether the person is employable in that occupation. President Somersby also announced free education up to the end of University education at the state’s expense, both increasing the social and economic welfare of the populace.

Military Policies

President Somersby announced compulsory serving in the armed forces of all people between eighteen and twenty, with the reserved possibility for this two-year term to be extended in times of war. The President also announced a modernisation and expansion of the armed forces.

Foreign Affairs Policies

Regarding Foreign Affairs, the President promised to help the spread of Communism and Communist influences across the NS world. Speaking in his inauguration speech, the President made remarks regarding “the global brotherhood of workers” and how it was every person’s duty to “ensure the continued expansion of Communist policies.”
The President also promised to expand diplomatic relations with foreign nations.

ooc: Well done on the detail, very detailed so far, and thats always good. However 700 thousand may be a bit of a stretch full time, although the accepted is about 3-5%, most people use less than one. I use around 0.9%. Just a hint, although possible, it may be tough.

OOC: Excellent work, like Sanct said your military is a little large but perhaps keep at it this level for a few weeks and then expand it a little once you've become a bit bigger.

What's an M41 'Walker' btw?

I assume your modern tech, read the stickies (if you haven't already) and start RPing.

Thanks for all the advice, people. :) I do realise it's a bit large, so I'll leave it as is for a while before my country expands it any further. I did try and pick cheap weaponry (hence the M41s); more quantity over quality with my nation at the moment.

EDIT: I am reducing the size where I can find - e.g. reduced Navy size.
